- Jambi, on 05/11/2008, -17/+179With all the pro-Obama spam peppering Digg (vote Obama for change, only he can save us!), it's nice to come across a submission that actually gives some very good reasons for supporting the guy. We can only hope that should he be elected, he'll stick to his guns on certain issues.
- flossdaily, on 05/11/2008, -20/+159But is America really ready for a President who believes in evolution?
- inactive, on 05/11/2008, -4/+72Dear MSM: "The media should compare [the other candidates] legislative records to Obama's, devoting special attention to their heart-and-soul bills and how effective each was in actually making law."
- HopeMonger, on 05/11/2008, -20/+85Sending this to everyone who questions his exp :)
- inactive, on 05/11/2008, -19/+49How about his voting record on controversial issues? Seems Obama doesn't want to take a stand on issues that could hurt him politically speaking:

or, since Digg loves Huffingtonpost so much,
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/taylor-marsh/obama-d ... - redcolumbine, on 05/11/2008, -10/+39Whoa, he doesn't like easy games, does he?
- sulthernao, on 05/11/2008, -3/+33Like Bush's personal belief that stem cell research is evil and must be stopped. Or Republican's personal beliefs that they could interfere with the Terry Schiavo case. Personal beliefs do effect their actions.
- exomni, on 05/11/2008, -5/+32What the hell does that even mean? "Believe IN evolution"? You can't believe IN evolution, it's just a collection of facts, not a faith.
- MikeSD34, on 05/11/2008, -11/+38Because you know everything about reverend wright and his view points based on the small clips they show in the news.
- flossdaily, on 05/11/2008, -6/+27Globalist shill? What is that even supposed to mean?
And as far as torching the constitution and supporting a police state? The whole article was about Obama passing a bill which would protection people's 5th amendment constitutional rights and LIMIT police abuses. - digitronix, on 05/11/2008, -31/+57Did you guys realize that he supports the patriot act? He is a member of the CFR? Maybe you should judge him by that, too.
- sulthernao, on 05/11/2008, -11/+32He voted for a redone patriot act after he took out a lot of crap from the original.
- coffeebaby, on 05/11/2008, -5/+26that's great because she isn't running for president.
- Jordan117, on 05/12/2008, -7/+27That is nothing but innuendo and misdirection. Let me explain:
First of all, for the Patriot Act vote, Sen. Obama gave a detailed statement on the floor of the Senate explaining his take on the bill. Essentially, he wants to keep the common-sense parts that increase out security measures, such as communication between law enforcement agencies and more thorough port inspections, but wants to strip out the parts that violate civil liberties. He made some progress in that, but in a GOP-dominated Congress his ideal version was untenable. So he voted for the compromise bill while continuing to fight for more progressive legislation.
Read his full statement here: http://obama.senate.gov/speech/060216-floor_statem ...
As for the CFR connection, that is nothing more than conspiratorial mudslinging. Just because he happens to be a member of an organization does not automatically imbue him with the worst characteristics of that organization as put forth by the most alternative of alternative news sources.
Said Obama about his purported connection: "I don’t know if I’m an official member. I’ve spoken there before. It basically is a forum where people talk about foreign policy. There is no official membership. I don’t have a card, or you know a special handshake or anything like that."
Anybody who tries to take these tenuous links and distort them to make Obama seem like some scary New World Order agent is incredibly disingenuous, and obviously out to slander Obama and his record. - BabushkaBlue, on 05/11/2008, -12/+30Did you even READ his record or are you just spamming whatever you can for your hero Ron Paul?
- deanlowe, on 05/12/2008, -6/+25A better question: Is America ready for a President who does NOT believes in imaginary people in the sky?
- inactive, on 05/11/2008, -16/+33**translaton** Blah, blah, blan Ron Paul! Will save us all! Blah, Blah, Blah.
- Elliuotatar, on 05/11/2008, -2/+22"There were death penalty abolitionists, some of whom worried that Obama's bill, by preventing the execution of innocents, would deprive them of their best argument."
D:
*jaw hits floor* - sulthernao, on 05/11/2008, -3/+19Why doesn't Obama have a "right" to be president. You want to talk about people who didn't have the "right" to be president? Look at John McCain's policy maker - George W. Bush. There have been a ton of bad Presidents in our history, and quite frankly they sucked not because of qualification issues, but because they just don't get it. John McCain just doesn't get it.
- sulthernao, on 05/11/2008, -5/+21Obama was a constitutional lawyer, I trust him with it more than I trust John McCain. And in case you haven't noticed, this was a protection of civil liberties. I don't know what the hell you are smoking.
- MikeSD34, on 05/12/2008, -3/+18How many times has an inspiration speaker said something drastic that we may not agree with, just to make a point which he then expanded upon? It happens very, very frequently. If you just play the dramatic part, but don't broadcast the explanation, you distort the point of the speech.
- SteveIsTheDude, on 05/11/2008, -7/+22Since you obviously hate women, you should support Obama over Clinton anyway, right? Or are you more of a racist than a sexist? Must be difficult hating black women so much....
- floorman56, on 05/11/2008, -0/+18Senate Record ...Just the facts
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/person.xpd?id=4006 ... - inactive, on 05/11/2008, -3/+18Does your constitution include the 5th Amendment? Perhaps you ought to read the article?
- MtheoryX, on 05/11/2008, -3/+19hey, dreamweaver1984, the whole "not" thing hasn't been funny since around 1984 or so.
- NoDrama, on 05/11/2008, -20/+37The Obama folks have NOTHING on Ron Paulbots when it comes to spam.
- Stevo23, on 05/12/2008, -4/+181) Do you even know what the CFR is? Why do you hate/fear a harmless policy thinktank?
2) What evidence do you have that Obama is a member? He gave a speech there, but so do lots of people who aren't members. - Yesplease, on 05/12/2008, -12/+27Well to say he supports the patriot act is a little misleading since he voted for re-upping the patriot act only if it was severely curtailed and it was going to pass anyway. So that is only an intelligent vote. CFR? I'm for the CFR so I don't have a problem with it. (In case you really want to get your panties all up in your crack, I'm also a supporter of Rockefeller and Berzezinski.) Remember, Federalization is the only way to consistently pre-empt intra-regional war! So says me.
- Enasni1212, on 05/11/2008, -3/+17Argh... at least read the damn article before coming up with such an ignorant comment. The article was about Obama fighting for enforcement of the 5th amendment. I guess a candidate can't be good for America if he's popular. Some people seem to be so consumed by the idea that America is heading downhill that they stop trying to do anything about it, and try to convince everyone else that there is nothing they can do about it, either.
- sulthernao, on 05/11/2008, -6/+20Yeah, she totally believes that America is evil...or not. I haven't been proud of the US government since 2000 (a little less then half my life), and Minorities have been shafted for a very long time. And I'm not sure where you got your last point, but I highly doubt that it is in context.
- jpete71chevmal, on 05/11/2008, -2/+14McCain is a toad. He was bought and sold years ago and will hand this country to Mexico on a silver platter. Try looking into his amnesty bill and see all the money he wants to commit south of the border for healthcare. He's a criminal from the word go. Can we say "Keating 5"?
- sulthernao, on 05/11/2008, -4/+18Your post is pretty good until your last bit.
First of all, there is no reason to bring up his race or his middle name if you are going to attack him on issues. Second of all, cut out this stupid socialist crap: it is a freaking ad hominem that has roots in the anti-union, big corporation, anti-Bolshevik, anti-communist, red scare era of the 1920s. Just cause your socialist doesn't mean that the world is going to end, or that democracy is threatened. If you really want to end "socialism" then go back to laissez faire and end all corporate regulation, affirmative action, social security, medicare/medicaid, public schools, police and firefighters, public libraries, US post office, FDA, FDIC, federal reserve, food stamps, etc - because they are all "semi-socialist", aren't they?
Stop throwing words around. Stop throwing race around. Stop using petty ad hominem attacks on someones name (in case you haven't noticed, you can't control what your name is). And if you are seriously stupid enough to vote on someone based on their name...well I can't even respond to the idiocracy. - fmaxwell, on 05/12/2008, -1/+13"evolution is bs"? Please stop reading your 2000 year old Christian fiction and just, for once, try to show some sign of rational thought. It's scary that people like you are allowed to vote. If you can't even understand basic principles of science and logic, you're not smart enough to participate in choosing our leaders.
- flossdaily, on 05/12/2008, -0/+11I guess that's evidence that his crazy preacher didn't have any amazing influence over him, as republicans (and hillary) imply.
- mfc5200, on 05/11/2008, -5/+20I know on engadget when the iPhone was launching, the amount of iPhone postings became so ridiculous that they actually came up with an iPhone section and kept such postings off the main page. Can we do that with digg with regard to Clinton and Obama as well? I mean Obama seems like a nice and sincere guy, and I don't like H Clinton either but c'mon this is getting kinda ridiculous.
The same holds true for McCain, because once Obama beats Clinton, McCain will just be taking her place no digg. I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but I can't take 50% of all the front page stories being pro-Obama anti-McCain/Clinton articles for the next 6 months. - fmaxwell, on 05/12/2008, -5/+17You right wing conspiracy theory wack-jobs are getting weirder by the minute. Just what's so horrible about the Council on Foreign Relations, a respected, non-partisan think tank that's been around since 1921? And how, pray tell, did you determine that Obama is a member of the CFR, since they do not publish their membership list?
As to the Trilateral Commission, it, too, is a foreign policy think tank. And if you are a member of it, you give up your membership if you are elected to national office, so Obama could not both be President and a member of the Trilateral Commission. Obama is not now a member of the Trilateral Commission and I see no evidence that he ever was a member of it.
The Bilderberg Group... This snippet from Wikipedia should answer a lot about that:
_________________
Conspiracy theories
Critics say the Bilderberg Group promotes the careers of politicians whose views are representative of the interests of multinational corporations, at the expense of democracy.[6] Journalists who have been invited to attend the Bilderberg Conference as observers have discounted these claims, calling the conference "not much different from a seminar or a conference organized by an upscale NGO"[7] with "nothing different except for the influence of the participants."[8]
The group's secrecy and its connections to power elites has raised concerns for many who believe that the group is part of a conspiracy to create a New World Order. Radio host Alex Jones, a well known conspiracy theorist,[9] promotes the claim that the group intends to dissolve the sovereignty of the United States and other countries into a supra-national structure similar to the European Union.[10] Madrid-based author Daniel Estulin, writing in the conspiracy theory magazine Nexus, claims that the long-term purpose of Bilderberg is to "Build a One-World Empire". He states the group "is not the end but the means to a future One World Government".[11]
Reporter Jonathan Duffy, writing in BBC News Online Magazine states "In the void created by such aloofness, an extraordinary conspiracy theory has grown up around the group that alleges the fate of the world is largely decided by Bilderberg."[12]
Denis Healey, a Bilderberg founder and former British Chancellor of the Exchequer, decries such theories as "crap." He was quoted by BBC News as saying "There's absolutely nothing in it. We never sought to reach a consensus on the big issues at Bilderberg. It's simply a place for discussion."[12]

The Paulbots have died down a lot since McCain became the Republican nominee. - amirman, on 05/12/2008, -1/+12wow, you're an idiot.
- mahsah, on 05/12/2008, -7/+18He voted for RealID. He voted for renewing the Patriot Act.
Yeah, I'll judge him for his laws. - deadlife, on 05/11/2008, -4/+15I think it's ridiculous that this article is just now coming out of major press outlets. Daily Kos and The Huffington Post had articles examining Obama's senate record months ago. This evidence has been around since before the primaries started. Why, with all the questions about Obama's experience, is the mainstream media getting around to this so late in the game?
- dkm201, on 05/11/2008, -2/+14http://www.cfr.org/bios/13303/ron_paul.html
LOL WAT - LKnight, on 05/11/2008, -11/+20Spoken like a true Ronbot.
- gsadamb, on 05/12/2008, -0/+9Yeah, that was my biggest takeaway from that article as well. That's just ***** up.
- Jordan117, on 05/12/2008, -2/+14Sigh.
Those bills were symbolic and toothless. In fact, they were introduced by Republicans! They did this to trap Democratic legislators -- if they voted for the bills, they would accomplish nothing and give the GOP room to paint them as pro-abortion ("Senator So-and-so voted YES on 5 different abortion laws!"). If they voted no, they could sow dissention with pro-choice Democrats who were not aware of the true nature of the bills ("Senator So-and-so CALLS himself a Democrat, but he voted against a woman's right to choose FIVE TIMES!").
It was such a transparently political strategy that the nation's most prominent pro-choice group, Planned Parenthood, *specifically requested* legislators to vote "Present" to avoid being caught in this bind.
Now, if Planned Parenthood wanted legislators to vote "present", then how is doing so being "wimpy" or sacrificing their core values? - sulthernao, on 05/11/2008, -5/+15The south side of Chicago. Read the book There Are No Children Here. Also the general experience of minorities as second class citizens. I don't know what race you are, but people definitely look at you differently depending on your race.
- scottc, on 05/12/2008, -2/+13"Few of the previous efforts have come even close to success." You're right, why even try? Let's all vote for someone we KNOW won't change anything.

- Elliuotatar, on 05/11/2008, -7/+19Yeah what a dumbass! We should be spending those billions dropping more bombs on third world countries! Not on futile attempts to feed poor people!
- Aerandir, on 05/11/2008, -1/+9People, Flossdaily is just kidding, for ***** sake. I believe his comment pours this thing called "Sarcasm"... maybe putting /s at the end next time? =D
