- Stevanoski, on 08/02/2008, -17/+31His symbol should be the waffle, it can be a Belgium waffle so he can still hate the USA.
- inactive, on 08/02/2008, -11/+21Wait, but yesterday he said all we needed to do was put air in our tires? Does this mean he's also in the pocket of big oil? Is he still gonna give me a $1000 hand out to pay for the cost of gas? The good thing about a guy we know nothing about is he can make himself into whoever he thinks we want him to be.
...until he gets elected of course. - covertress, on 08/02/2008, -6/+15;D - One waffle symbol, coming right up!
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3295/2433281852_ccf ... - DCMacHead, on 08/02/2008, -0/+7anyway someone could turn obama's presidential seal into a waffle?
- Stevanoski, on 08/02/2008, -5/+12Too rich.
- Mike668, on 08/02/2008, -9/+16Maybe now Pelosi will allow congress to vote on it... after they get back from their five week vacation that is.
- fadeout, on 08/02/2008, -5/+12The entire primary he ran as a candidate that would find compromises with the opposing party - and that he would be willing to change his mind if confronted with facts that called for a change of opinion.
Not being willing to listen to others ideas is what got us into the hole of bitter partisanship and hate that we're in now. There are good ideas and concepts on both sides of the aisle, none of us are perfect and we could always absorb more information that might change our minds. We should be actively challenging our opinions with new information, all the time. The "waffling" ***** represents all that is wrong with politics these days. It is that mentality that blindly drove us to war, it is that mentality that drove our economy into the gutter. If you're spouting that ***** you're (1.) a troll or (2.) an idiot. - inboxnews, on 08/02/2008, -2/+8"Obama would never support allowing off shore drilling, his rhetoric is an attempt to illustrate how he is willing to reach across party lines and compromise with opponents in order to create change regarding US energy policy."
Let me simplify this: Obama Lies. Obama is a liar. - Charlotte_Web, on 08/02/2008, -3/+8Except it doesn't make any sense. The Democrats have been arguing that opening up more of the US to drilling will have a negligible impact on oil prices. So, how is he going to tell his base that opening up a small portion of the new drilling platforms was the right decision?
All this is going to do is piss off his base, and let the Republicans get their foot in the door enough that they can push it wide open. - knucklebusted, on 08/02/2008, -4/+9Oh, it is worse that big oil. Obama is in the pocket of BIG AIR! Who else will profit from all those tires needing inflation? Follow the money! I bet all his cabinet picks are poised to make federal air policy his number one priority.
- DCMacHead, on 08/02/2008, -1/+5should oil prices drop, it's one less thing for politicians to talk about...it'll be interesting to see how it plays out in the polls.

- VBDon, on 08/02/2008, -7/+10Good old Barack. Two weeks behing McCain agian. That shows us who the leader is in this race. McCain supports FISA and Barack follows. McCain supports increasing U.S. oil production, Barack follows. McCain opposes using race as a topic, Barack follows. Yeah, Barack is a real leader.
- dBass, on 08/02/2008, -6/+9Given the shallowness of the comments against what Sen. Obama REALLY said, it's no wonder the country's so *****.
"Flip-flop", "Whaffle", blah, blah, blah. Grow up, this is real life. - thoughtcrime, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2Ok, try to "think" about electric cars for a moment. First, there is no such thing as a "perpetual motion machine", so this means you have to plug the buggers in at some point to help charge the batteries (alternators and regenerative breaking aren't sufficient).
So, when you "plug" your electric car into those holes in the wall, the electricity comes from something called a "power plant". The power plant must burn FUEL to generate the electricity. Since most of the alternative fuel generation technologies are inadequate to supply these power generation needs, more than likely, fossil fuels will be burned (which you enviros HATE). Not to mention the fact, that you greenies also dislike: nuclear, hydroelectric, and wind power. So how have you reduced the consumption of fossil fuel or the "carbon footprint?" You haven't.
Here's one more factoid for you to chew on. Electric cars can only go about 80-100 miles under optimal circumstances before needing to be plugged into a wall. Impractical for most people, unless they have a rather short commute to work AND have a regular vehicle for longer trips.
OK "thejimmyo". There's 2 for you. The rest is up to you. - inactive, on 08/02/2008, -6/+8This colossal flip-flop will make the price of oil plummet.
- inactive, on 08/03/2008, -1/+3Racist! Your ilk sickens me.

- motivatedmama, on 08/03/2008, -0/+2Has anyone actually READ the BILL?
http://digg.com/politics/Will_Big_Oil_Win_the_Ener ...
It's called BI-partisanship. The proposed drilling is minimal and ANWAR is off the table.
FTA:
Their plan includes several of the Democrats' top energy priorities, including stripping oil companies of at least $30 billion in tax breaks. The bill would use some of that money to renew expiring tax credits for wind and solar projects through 2012. It also would give consumers a $7,500 tax credit to buy an electric or fuel-cell vehicle, and a $2,500 credit to retrofit their current vehicles into plug-in hybrids.
The bill would provide $7.5 billion in research money to boost electric vehicles, mostly to improve the batteries that store electricity. U.S. automakers would be big winners, receiving $7.5 billion in government money to retool their auto lines to crank out more electric cars.
Big oils boohoo fit will squash it anyway and Fla. aint too happy either. - thejimmyo, on 08/02/2008, -1/+3More like 2 cents in 2030.
- thoughtcrime, on 08/03/2008, -1/+3Electric cars are losers for a wide variety of reasons. The government began investing millions in syn-fuels and other alternative technologies in the 1970's with absolutely NO payoff whatsoever (this in and of itself is a rather involved, but interesting subject). To keep it short and sweet: the best way towards innovation and energy independence is through market forces, and getting government OUT of the business of trying to "fix" things through regulation, and political and social manipulation.
- inactive, on 08/03/2008, -1/+2Now just 2 more than Obama

- Tex, on 08/03/2008, -1/+2Their talking point will go from drilling to "flip-flopper."
(Not that they wouldn't be making that allegation regardless.) - thoughtcrime, on 08/03/2008, -1/+2Ahhh, another "genius" who can't read a complete post. What a surprise.
- thoughtcrime, on 08/03/2008, -1/+2Conceptually, your argument about candidates having the willingness to listen to ideas and change their minds in a sincere way has merit. However, Obama's "revelations" are not based on any sort of objective analysis. As cashman57 has pointed out, BHO has consistently flip-flopped without providing any specific rationale for the change. Moreover, he supports one position on one day, then turns 180 on the next, then hedges, then back to the original position. Repeat ad nauseum.
That is NOT the sign of a person who has listened carefully to alternative ideas, and based upon that information changes his mind in a thoughtful and considered way.
Sorry dinot, no "WIN" here. - thejimmyo, on 08/03/2008, -1/+2"I'm not normally one for tossing gratuitous insults, but . . . you really are an idiot, aren't you? The solution to high fuel . . . prices will only come from . . . plowing over the enviro-tards that oppose everything. . . . [T]otally ignoring the domestic crude supply issue is utterly moronic."
You seem perfectly comfortable throwing around gratuitous insults.
But I'd like to point out that, if anything, DuggDowner is being overly-optimistic about the effect of outer-continental leasing on the price at the pump. According to the Department of Energy, leasing all of the outer-continental shelf for drilling would result in about 200,000 barrels of oil per day when it finally reaches peak production in the year 2030. That oil then goes out on the world market, which consumes about 76 million barrels per day today, and will probably consume a whole lot more when China and India increase their demand.
Since the price is set on the world market, this will amount to a savings of barely anything at all. Maybe somewhere around $0.02/gallon. And not even that until sometime around 2030.
But even that is not the whole picture. If we opened these new areas for leasing at the federal level, California wouldn't approve of it at the state level. The California governor, legislature and voters are all pretty set against it. Since CA has about half of the outer-continental shelf's oil supply, you'd probably see less than 100,000 barrels per day, way off in the future. So that's maybe even more like $0.01/gallon.
As far as "the domestic crude supply issue" goes, it's insignificant, and it's a lie to say that this will affect the price of gas at the pump or make us any more energy independent. Of course we need a "multi-pronged effort," but let's not kid ourselves about what this prong will do. - thoughtcrime, on 08/03/2008, -1/+2On the surface the quote *sounds* reasonable (sort of). But lets face it, the incessant pandering of the left to "environmental" issues is code for "it ain't gonna happen". IMHO, it's a way for BHO to appear to support "sensible" drilling; while allowing himself an escape clause to back-out of the whole idea later on.
As far as media sensationalism...so far, most of it has been overwhelmingly in favor of the "Anointed One" - Barack Obama.
On McCain, I'll grant you that your point concerning the "holy grail" of oil drilling is pretty much spot-on. He's not the greatest candidate, just a heck of a lot better than the alternative. - skinnydipinacid, on 08/05/2008, -0/+0ha ha ha ha ha... Bi-Partisanship?
Oh lord... you must be a Democrat!
Bi-Partisanship means "do it our way...

If you think he will be a good president you probably think winnie the pooh should be his veep - thoughtcrime, on 08/03/2008, -2/+2I'm not normally one for tossing gratuitous insults, but Jesus DuggDowner, you really are an idiot, aren't you?
The solution to high fuel and crude prices will only come from a multi-pronged effort: increasing supply (domestically if possible); plowing over the enviro-tards that oppose everything from cheap plentiful coal and natural gas to wind and hydro power; construction of more refineries; elimination of the hundreds of fine-tuned EPA-mandated fuel formulations; and using market incentives to refine and develop alternative fuel technologies. There is no "one-size-fits-all" solution to a complex problem that has been unfolding for over 30 years.
But totally ignoring the domestic crude supply issue is utterly moronic. Get a grip and try to look at ALL the facts... oh hell, why am I wasting my breath? - burningmanstan, on 08/02/2008, -8/+8Obama does not support drilling and does not think drilling is a good idea, however he did say that he may have to compromise to get some of the legislation he wants passed. This is what he said:
"My interest is in making sure we've got the kind of comprehensive energy policy that can bring down gas prices," Obama told the Palm Beach Post. "If, in order to get that passed, we have to compromise in terms of a careful, well-thought-out drilling strategy that was carefully circumscribed to avoid significant environmental damage - I don't want to be so rigid that we can't get something done."
Typical media sensationalism coupled with the general stupidity of the people who gobble this stuff up.
This is in contrast to McCain who historically opposed oil drilling. Then he started pushing it as the holy grail of lower energy prices, significantly exaggerating any possible effect drilling could have on oil prices
Can you see the difference? I hope so. - thejimmyo, on 08/03/2008, -2/+2"Electric cars are losers for a wide variety of reasons"
Name the reasons, then. - xaoiv, on 08/02/2008, -6/+6Offshore drilling is an issue that McCain has changed his position on too.
McCain has also changed his position on at least 72 issues since he began running for president:

- dinot, on 08/02/2008, -4/+3WIN.
- inactive, on 08/02/2008, -6/+4OBushma or McSame?
None of the above. This election could be the one where we see the third party candidates getting more votes than the D&R gang. OBushma has no core beliefs, nothing he will hold fast to. He smoked dope but thinks the drug war is winnable. He thinks he can buy off the Afghanis who are growing poppies using money from tax increases. He thinks he can tell the military what strategies to use and now he has decided that drilling is OK as long as it is safe for the environment. The man has never been near a drilling rig or he would know that it already IS environmentally sound.
He claims he is for alternative energy and cutting down on fuel usage as he flies all over the world in a fuel sucking aircraft using more energy in one week than most Americans do in decades.
There is nothing this man will not say to pander to whatever group he stands in front of. During the primary he went to Idaho and claimed he was not coming for their guns and then submits a piece of legislation that does that very thing. He claims that "shall not be infringed" means infringe it at the local level. His website recognizes two uses for guns, hunting and target shooting while he has people with guns surrounding him for security.
Now he's off on a five week vacation from Congress while Americans struggle to find the money to get back and forth from work.He claims he was against warrant less wiretapping and then supported that very thing.
His energy plan is to put air in tires and tune up your car not understanding that most of the cars built today can go for tens of thousands of miles without needing parts replacement.
If you plan on voting for OBushma take all of your possessions and investments and pile them up and pour $5 worth of gas on it and light the pile on fire.
The result will be the same. - thejimmyo, on 08/04/2008, -1/+0"I suggest you do your own research"
You're the one making unsubstantiated claims. As I understand it, the only major obstacle to electric cars right now is the price of batteries, which is dropping all the time. As far as infrastructure goes, electric cars are a step ahead of all the alternatives, insofar as we already have an electricity grid that reaches pretty much everywhere in the United States. - inactive, on 08/02/2008, -9/+7Drill now so we can save 5 cents on gas in 2016!
- 17999, on 08/02/2008, -12/+10Obama can change his positions with neck-snapping speed. And, again, he sneaks it in (or tries to) on a Friday afternoon.
Is anyone still falling for this guy's act? Can I sell you some real estate? - LibertyForever, on 08/02/2008, -8/+5Don't you (racist) Republicans [of the Party of Lincoln], get it? The One just had a Revelation (right after the daily poll came in), and that is: it is OK to drill for oil, starting, like, now!
Sure, McCain has said the same thing all along, but McCain was speaking on behalf of the oil lobby, and Cheney, and the military-industrial complex - not for the people!
