- tbrand86, on 07/22/2008, -14/+70I'm Jewish.
I hate Senator Lieberman. He feeds the fire for anti-semetism. His pork barrel spending and ignorant views don't help either.
Obama '08 - inactive, on 07/22/2008, -3/+34I'm Jewish too.
Israel deserves to exist on it's own accord and not at the cost of the US.
Corruption also needs to be dealt with and that goes for AIPAC influence in the US.
I'm also against entitlements.
Leiberman is a douchbag - solid12345, on 07/22/2008, -5/+35Most Jews are Zionists, get over it. Most Jews are not going to say "we wish we didn't have our own government"
A two-state solution can still be found within Zionist ideology - jstohler, on 07/22/2008, -6/+34Every time Lieberman talks, I want to punch his voice.
- morningmatters, on 07/22/2008, -8/+36Other than US-Israel issue which drives some Jews into the Neo-Con camp, most Jews are liberals who value education and fairness.
- franklymister, on 07/22/2008, -13/+37Stop trying to use Zionist as a perjorative. Being a Zionist means you believe that Israel deserves to exist.
The bad policies of certain Zionists is no more reflective on all of us than the bad behavior of some Republicans reflects upon every citizen of the United States. - disrupter, on 07/22/2008, -4/+26|Anyone| Far More Popular Among |Anyone| Than Lieberman

Poor Arabs, they only control the other 99% of Western Asia. - franklymister, on 07/22/2008, -2/+17RogueMountie, I guess you're the kind of person who thinks blacks have it easy in the US because it was their ancestors, not them, who were enslaved? I suppose, in your world, the gay rights movement should be abandoned because Stonewall was decades ago?
- franklymister, on 07/22/2008, -4/+19Count me in on the Jews for Obama bandwagon.
- dubhousing, on 07/22/2008, -1/+16False dichotomy, regardless of your opinion of Zionism.
- Linkin4, on 07/22/2008, -9/+23I registered Dem in CT to vote against Lieberman in the primaries. The man is a snake.
- franklymister, on 07/22/2008, -2/+16UK Muslims present: Jews against Zionism
http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3271269, ...
I wonder why a Muslim group would want to promote that? Hmmm... - V3n0M, on 07/22/2008, -8/+20I wouldn't think Obama would be very popular among Lieberman.
- nonsequitor, on 07/22/2008, -6/+17American Jews are not even close to the same demographics as Israeli Jews. Look at it this way, Israel is run by a very conservative jewish orthodoxy. Most of which do not consider "Reform Jews," mainstream American judaism, Jewish enough. There are liberals in Israel as well, they just aren't in power. Many, many, Israelis protest the actions of the Israeli government, they are every bit as effective as anti-war marches in Washington. So Israel is a country divided, much like the US.
Now take the American Jewish community, all of which support the state of Israel, but maybe do not agree with those in power there all the time, similar to how many Americans do not agree with every decision President Bush makes, but still support the United States. There are Jews in America and Israel working to restore rights to the Palestinians and reach a peaceful conclusion to the troubles there. So it makes sense that American Jews, a very liberal bunch, would support Obama. The hardcore Zionists and more conservative elements are already in Israel.
Yes, I'm Jewish and I'm very proud of my aunt who lives in Israel and is politically active there, trying to make the world a better place. - kroses, on 07/22/2008, -10/+21He's undergone a complete personality change, which is indicative of the early stages of Alzheimer's Disease. He and his buddy, McDope, are good for each other. They fill in the missing blanks!
- franklymister, on 07/22/2008, -1/+12mchisari -
Actually, yes. I believe the Roma absolutely deserve a homeland - probably part of Rajasthan. I would fully support any efforts to get them one, as well.
For that matter, I believe the Native Americans deserve at least as much, too. - franklymister, on 07/22/2008, -8/+19Because the Jewish people are an ethnic group as well as a religion, and the Jews have suffered for many centuries in large part due to their lack of a homeland.
If you don't know that much history at least, then please take a little time to learn about what happened to the Jews in Europe, Russia, and elsewhere over the past two millenia. - inactive, on 07/22/2008, -1/+12Um the ENTIRE world is more or less zionist.
Explanation:
Zionism is the return and creation of Israel.
Israel exists.
Israel recognized as a country by the U.N. and most of the 150 nations of the world.
Thus when you're trying to call someone a zionist, you're really trying to call a jew something wrong but trying to have an explanation for it. - inactive, on 07/22/2008, -1/+11"And just like Palestine, the problem is, people already live there."
And unlike Palestine, the Gypsies don't have brothers/sisters settled in 99% of Western Asia. Jordan IS Palestine, get over it. - smacksaw, on 07/22/2008, -3/+13Dude, he can't partake in pork barrel spending. He's JEWISH.
- wpi97, on 07/22/2008, -3/+12"Being a Zionist means that you believe that Israel should exist by displacing Arabs. I see nothing good about Zionism."
Is that why over 1 million Arabs (20% of Israel's population) are Israeli citizens? - datastorageguy, on 07/22/2008, -3/+11IT'S TRUE. Huffington post says so!!!!!
- awtripp, on 07/22/2008, -1/+8Way to introduce a well formed rebuttal.
- tbrand86, on 07/22/2008, -1/+8I'm not saying he's the most fiscally responsible but as someone who's lived inside the beltway my whole life I know McCain is not gonna do anything worthwhile. If you want to call me "feeble" at least make an argument instead of taking quick jabs.
- durruticolumn, on 09/18/2009, -5/+11
The Gypsies have suffered almost as much as the Jews (possibly more). I hope this means you're arguing for a Roma homeland. - franklymister, on 07/22/2008, -4/+10Adhelm, thank you for making a very good point. I have a lot of Muslim friends who are horrified by the fact that they are seen as somehow associated with the extremists, just like I'm horrified to be associated with some of the extremist Jews (settlers, Ariel Sharon, etc.)
I think the Muslims deserve the return of the Caliphate, too. Just watch Lawrence of Arabia for a dramatic example of how the Arab world got screwed over by the British and the French.
I believe in a world where there is room for Zionists and Islamists to live together. - MacEnvy, on 07/22/2008, -3/+9Care to link to those articles that say Obama's having a hard time, or is it too hard to link to things you've made up in your head?
- synaesthete, on 07/22/2008, -1/+7Unlike Rabbi Obama
- RogueMountie, on 07/22/2008, -3/+9Don't worry. Most people recognise that Lieberman is a fake Jew as much as Bush is a fake Christian.
- Tanktunker, on 07/23/2008, -1/+6@wootup - So America has no right to exist?
And all those other European colonies, like Mexico, most of South America, South Africa, Canada, Australia?
And what about the countries themselves? Does France have a right to exist? Britain? Germany? all of these countries came to lands that were NOT theirs, and were inhabited by natives, and proceeded to slaughter or enslave the natives, colonize the area, and claim the land as their own, this is how every single European colony was created, and I don't see how Israel is different, except that the people who came to claim the land didn't slaughter or enslave anybody on their arrival, and came because they were prosecuted, not because they wanted more economic development for their motherland. - inactive, on 07/22/2008, -6/+11Republican desperation tastes sweet.
- wpi97, on 07/23/2008, -1/+6"It is the Zionism ideology which makes the Israelis build settlements and treat the Palestinians as second class people."
Palestinians of the West Bank and Gaza are not Israeli citizens. Israel never formally annexed the West Bank or Gaza because it offered these territories back to Egypt and Jordan right after the Six Day War of 1967 in exchange for peace. The offer was rejected, and the West Bank remains a disputed territory to this day, while Gaza has been de facto independent since 2005. Either the Palestinians want an independent state, or they want Israeli citizenship. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
"The goal of Zionism is for everything west of the Jordan to be part of Eretz Israel."
If that were the case, Israel would have annexed Gaza and Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) and expelled the Arabs living their, instead of repeatedly trying to achieve a resolution of the conflict. Israel agreed to a two state solution three times: in 1937, 1948, and 2000. Each time it got a wave of violence in return.
"It is Zionism which makes Israel a jewish state."
Duh!
"A jew from any part of thw rold can settle in Israel."
And anybody with a German grandparent living anywhere in the world can settle in Germany, so? Over 20 countries have some form of the law of return. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_of_return
"But an Arab whose ancestors have lives there for more than a 1000 years cannot live there. I am talking here of all the refugees."
According to the UN a Palestinian refugee is someone who lived in British Mandate Palestine between 1946 and 1948. Hardly 1000 years. Are you aware, by the way, that 900,000 Jews were expelled from the Arab countries after Israel became independent? In fact, more Jews were displaced as a result of the Arab-Israeli conflict than Arabs. Or are _those_ refugees not worthy of your consideration?
"So again I will stick with my point that nothing good will come out of Zionism."
You can stick to whatever you want, but I suggest you learn the facts of the matter before regurgitating the propaganda that you have been spoon-fed. Learn the facts and judge for yourself. - tbrand86, on 07/22/2008, -1/+6wow you're intelligent.
- solid12345, on 07/23/2008, -1/+6I know it sucks to be a Palestinian, I am not delusional, but think about it, the UN offered a two-state solution in 1948, the Zionists accepted it, the Arabs did not and went to war and lost. When you lose you have to accept reality that you have to live by your conqueror's terms not your own.
- dshPls, on 07/22/2008, -2/+7"why should a religion have a government?"
Hey I'm not saying it should... But who are you do decide how things are handled? - defwheezer, on 07/22/2008, -3/+8That pict makes him look like the "Joker".
- wpi97, on 07/23/2008, -0/+5@wootup
Why don't you read a book. "The Case for Israel" by Alan Dershowitz would be a good one for starters.
Also why don't you read the history. Like the history of the Arab attacks on Jews in British Mandate Palestine, long before Israel became independent. One example of many is the Hebron Massacre of 1929 during which the Jewish community of Hebron that had existed for centuries was wiped out.
You may also be interested to learn that 700,000 Palestinian Arabs and 900,000 Jews from Arab countries became refugees as a result of... the combined invasion of Israel by 5 Arab states aided by local militia. It was the Arab governments who have caused and perpetuated the Palestinian refugee problem. There are over 1 million Israeli Arabs now (over 20% of Israeli population). This is very consistent with Israel trying to get rid of Arabs, right?
The fact is that throughout its history Israel has been agreeing to compromises and proposing compromises of its own. These have been met with renewed violence. The Palestinians could have had a state as far back as in 1937. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peel_Commission
They also could have had a state in 1948 and in 2000. Unfortunately, the goal of their leaders does not appear to be an independent Palestinian state, but rather the destruction of Israel.
So until you decide to give your house back to the natives of Canada, I suggest you put aside your preconceived notions and take an objective look at the history of the region and the Arab-Israeli conflict, without skipping anything. - inactive, on 07/22/2008, -1/+6King Hussein did. Lets just say he wasn't too supportive. Almost every major nation in the world had another people living their at some point in time. Right to land because of historical significance or ownership is by far the most worthless attitude ever. There was a war(s), the Arabs lost, and now they have to go live somewhere else in the thousands of miles of oil rich land they still own.
- tattoojoo, on 07/22/2008, -4/+9"Only 21 percent of us approve of the Iraq war and only 29 percent think Bush is good for Israel, and those are clearly the shmucks that kissed ass in Hebrew school and snitched when the rest of us used the synagogue phone booth and cloakroom to make out."
dugg. - synaesthete, on 07/22/2008, -1/+5Nonsequitor is absolutely factually wrong. Israeli Jews are mostly secular.
- monsieurginger, on 07/25/2008, -1/+5As a former kibbutznik, I have to agree with wpi.
- WiseWeasel, on 07/23/2008, -0/+4@deathsythe: Even in the quote you referenced, he could easily have been indicating that the people corresponding on the stalls referred to *each other* as kikes and *****, not necessarily that he was labeling them that way. It would seem from the tone of his writing that he simply omitted quotation marks around those racial terms, to indicate that he was using their terminology, not his own. Either way, this is a pointless discussion, as the example is much too weak to convince people that Obama is actually a racist.
- foopirata, on 07/25/2008, -1/+5wpi97, sincerely, thanks for that long post of yours. you managed to bring tears to my eyes.
כל ישראל ערבים זה בזה - thecatfish111, on 07/22/2008, -2/+6I would disagree. 70% of Israelis are secular and Israel is a very socialist state. The Orthodox far right has very little power in the Kenneset. Israeli society is more liberal than American society.
- inactive, on 07/25/2008, -1/+5I think that post sums up the Jewish identity.
@foopirata
I don't think I've seen a more perfect context for that quote. - wildbillhick, on 07/22/2008, -2/+6he always sounds constipated.
- Jelfish, on 07/22/2008, -0/+4I believe the plural is "Liebermen."
- TheUngod, on 07/22/2008, -1/+4As a Jew as well, I'd rather have someone who doesn't have the possibility of tarnishing our people than someone who will just fuel the fire for more bigotry.
