- eliot2000, on 03/13/2008, -4/+201It kind of reads like a nasty Digg comment. I was looking for the green thumbs up icon.
- jphillips59, on 03/13/2008, -8/+177The Clinton campain is drowing and they are just thowing more water on themselves....love it..
- csonger, on 03/13/2008, -7/+164One of the most annoying (and disturbing) things about the last 7 years of politics is this idea that the message can replace the reality. I'd have a lot more respect if the Clinton campaign said: We are losing, the math is getting harder, but we think we have the political muscle to get the super delegates to back us. The Obama response is fall down funny. It's nice to see a good old fashioned email flame hit prime time. Good for them.
- DiggLive, on 03/13/2008, -6/+131Clinton: We won California! You need me to take that state against McCain or we'll lose!
Shut the ***** up Hillary. - LinuxAddict, on 03/13/2008, -4/+79I highly doubt this was done by anyone in the official Obama group. Sounds like a zealot got this and added their personal comments.
- cranium, on 03/13/2008, -0/+50It's silly for her to keep bringing up the blue states, like Obama could lose those or something. It's the purple states that matter. She knows that, she just thinks we're stupid.
- cranium, on 03/13/2008, -4/+47Hillary has become a parody of herself.
- starkruzr, on 03/13/2008, -1/+42I lol'd HARD. Good for whoever that staffer was. After absorbing an enormous amount of stupidity from the Clinton camp, it's about time the Obama campaign responded with a little bit of ascerbic wit.
- benintn, on 03/13/2008, -6/+43why should the Obama campaign work any harder than the Clinton campaign at responding to the Clinton campaign's BS? It's laughable, not worth the effort. If you want numbers, visit cnn.com, slate.com, or any other number of sites and do the delegate calculator. Survey USA also released a national poll in which it was shown that Obama would currently beat McCain in electoral votes. But let's be honest - it's a long race and it's far from over.
- csonger, on 03/13/2008, -2/+36Which that is that? The Clinton mailing is at best disconnected from reality and at worst a continued attempt to replace the will of the people with a smoke filled room decision where influence gained during the Clinton presidential years can sway the election for her. So if "that" means "Hillary's initial letter" then I agree with you.
On the other hand if "that" means the response in the posted npr article then I disagree with you. I feel the response shown at the npr site was a great way to point out exactly now ludicrous Clinton's framing of the election is. Barack Obama does not have to win Pennsylvania to win the nomination. The democratic party does not have to win Pennsylvania to win the election. Were Hillary Clinton to win Pennsylvania, that does not preclude Barack Obama winning it in the general election. The original email was so full of specious arguments, that the contemptuous and humorous rebuttal is the perfect way to answer it.
Sometimes when people say something so silly and removed from the truth, it appropriate to smack them for it. This was such a case. - wankelrotary, on 03/13/2008, -2/+28Snarky. Not at all presidential I suppose, but I doubt Obama himself had a hand in this. Still, it made me cackle. Is there any real confirmation on the source?
- mh732, on 03/13/2008, -3/+28I love the humor in the responses! Because that's what the Clinton spin has become... a joke.
- lpmiller, on 03/13/2008, -2/+26Finally they say what I've been saying. Clinton winning states that are going to vote democrat anyway is not only irrelevant to the national election, it's stupid to crow about it. Winning states that go purple or red, by a large margin, where a record number of democrats turned out, where that turn out was well above the Republican turn out - THAT matters.
- csonger, on 03/13/2008, -1/+25I think one of the most insightful comments on the NPR site mentions that the two mailings show the generational divide in the campaigns. The Obama response is exactly how someone who's lived the internet flame wars would respond and while I respect that the response may read like a flame, that's what you get when you are trolling, you get flamed. And the clinton letter was definite trolling. :)
- digidelia, on 03/13/2008, -2/+25my favorite comment from the original article
"ROFL....this is a guy on the Titanic yelling at everyone that it's not really sinking, don't worry that 54% of the ship is underwater." - inactive, on 03/13/2008, -3/+26Funny how good the comments were. You would never see anything like that from Republicans. They would basically do something like:
"well, oh yeah, well your gay".
"I heard you never hunted before" - ceruleanocte, on 03/13/2008, -2/+24Thanks for the laughs, but seriously, go away Hillary.
- blinkatron, on 03/13/2008, -4/+24The Clinton supporters be pissed about this because they know that those responses hold more water than the original memo. Even though it probably wasn't even officially sanctioned by the Obama campaign.
- corneliusJones, on 03/13/2008, -6/+26PWNED.
- V0lk, on 03/13/2008, -3/+23I really wish she would shut up about winning Texas...because she did NOT win Texas. Obama won more delegates out of Texas than she did after the caucauses were counted.
- inactive, on 03/13/2008, -3/+22Clinton? wasn't she running for president before she was pwnd by Obama, yeah, i remember her now.
- timfitz99, on 03/13/2008, -3/+22Hillary is trying to "Fox News" her supporters by announcing her own reality... too bad the widely-available numbers are in direct contrast to everything her announcement says.
Obama's campaign was right to be sarcastic about this idiotic ranting. It's the first time a Democrat has responded properly when under these stupid attacks. Kerry should have had this attitude when he was attacked with the Swift Boat thing. - corneliusJones, on 03/13/2008, -0/+18This isn't old school politics. If anything this reads like a Daily Show piece, and it totally shuts down all of Clinton's points with more than a tinge of wit. Good show, I say, I'm sick of Clinton (and most other politicians) twisting facts in ridiculous way. I'm glad the Obama campaign called her out (stupid bitch).
- chrissku, on 03/13/2008, -0/+16I hope Obama beats her like he's a drunken stepfather.
- crichton101, on 03/13/2008, -0/+14I have to disagree with you. The childish response wouldve been to release their own press release filled with a comments so out of touch with reality to have been laudable. But instead, taking a moment to show how every single statement the Clinton Campaign made is ridiculous and treating them like the immature little children they are acting like is perfectly acceptable.
- norman619, on 03/13/2008, -0/+13That email was great comedy. In politics the truth usualy makes the BS soo entertaining.
- BrandonWicks, on 03/13/2008, -0/+12It's not childish, it's humorous. What's childish(and tragic) is that the Clinton campaign thinks it can fly by jumping off the roof, and seems to be trying to take the party with it.
- wendelgee2, on 03/13/2008, -2/+14It is sarcastic.
- hamobu, on 03/13/2008, -1/+13There is nothing noble about not responding, or not ridiculing people who clearly slander and dishonestly attack you. Responding with seriousness would only give credence to the thing you are responding to.
- mh732, on 03/13/2008, -0/+12it could be fake, but npr is a pretty credible source... sarcasm is the way to be when your campaign has an insurmountable delegate and states won lead, the only proper human reaction to ***** like this is either anger or taking it as humor.
- richlizard24, on 03/13/2008, -4/+16It almost seems fake.
- ProjectGSX, on 03/13/2008, -4/+15"If Barack Obama cannot reverse his downward spiral with a big win in Pennsylvania, he cannot possibly be competitive against John McCain in November."
This is major lulz. Thanks guys. - soulodahl, on 03/13/2008, -2/+12Well, I could say that I thought it was great that the Clinton campaign released an informed email that makes a good case for why people should vote for her... but I can't. Why would one want to vote for someone who says, "hey, this guy who is beating me by a huge margin is actually on a downward spiral, even though he still continues to beat me in recent contests, so why don't you come and vote for me, because I've told you no good reason to vote for myself, just poor logic as to why you should not vote for him..." nice try.
- purag66, on 05/13/2009, -0/+10The biting, Web 2.0, digg-style commentary by his staff is "old school." Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaah. You're a funny guy!
At the very least, he trusts the youth (you know a pretty young guy/gal wrote the rebuttals). That's more than can be said of past generations. - aliengoods, on 03/13/2008, -0/+10Where I grew up the step children were bald-headed. And bald kids need a beating!
- motivatedmama, on 03/13/2008, -0/+10Either way, the Clinton campaign left themselves wide open to have each ludicrous point addressed. Serves them right!
- barfooz, on 03/13/2008, -0/+10You think it's fair to make the results in Michigan count? Hillary was the only one on the ballot. You think that's an accurate representation of the will of Michigan's voters? 40% of the population voted "uncommitted". At that point John Edwards was still in the race, so you can't even fairly assign all of those "uncommitted" delegates to Obama. There is no honest, fair way to count Michigan's vote. It's also not fair to count the results of the Florida vote, because neither campaign had the ability to make face-to-face contact with voters there.
- hamobu, on 03/13/2008, -1/+10What are you talking about? Obama has to respond to a spin like that. That is just common sense.
- ell0bo, on 03/13/2008, -1/+10It makes me glad to know I plan on voting for someone whom you can laugh at, not because they're idiots, but because they actually have a sense of humor (or at least the people they surround themselves with do). After watching Bush for the last 7 years, this is very refreshing.
- shakajumbo, on 03/13/2008, -0/+9Oh please,
The only reason you agree with his comments, is because their written in BLACK fonts.

Hillary Campaign Just got SERVED!!! - stellarceltic, on 03/13/2008, -0/+8Almost 50% of the democrat voters aren't voting for Obama because Hillary is still an option. Once its down to just McCain and Obama, many of those 50% will vote for Obama because they don't want a Republican in the white house.
And even if your point was valid, the same would hold true for Hillary. There are a ton of people (myself included) that would vote for McCain over her in a heartbeat. - jayfarer, on 03/13/2008, -0/+8That's....That's dumb.
My pet fish could carry California & New York if it was the democratic nominee in November. All Clinton's wins in the primaries mean is that the democrats in those states generally prefer Clinton over Obama. It doesn't mean they prefer McCain over Obama. When it comes down to it, we are all democrats, we tend to follow the party line come November. - ell0bo, on 03/13/2008, -2/+10i believe it's "beats her like she's a red headed step child" (at least where I grew up that's the saying).
- dn11, on 03/14/2008, -0/+8totally internet forum flame war material, but justified. the campaigns are devolving to our level of discourse. NO WAI!
- jsebrech, on 03/13/2008, -0/+8If by winning you mean "is behind on every objective criterium", then yes, I'll agree she's winning.
She's also lucky Obama is a classy guy, because the Clintons have 10 times the crooked business connections Obama has. Everyone knows that Clinton will be buried in the general election on all the shady business deals that are in her past. - CatalystGhost, on 03/13/2008, -2/+9Jesus Christ, is "snarky" the only damn word people can use to describe this, or something? Seriously, that entire thread is full of "snarky". At least use a different word, people...
- unearth, on 03/13/2008, -1/+8Really? I usually just flip a coin. That way, it involves even less critical thinking than your method.
- inactive, on 03/13/2008, -0/+7You could run a head of lettuce as your nominee on the democratic ticket and it would clear 60% in California.
