- ZSmasher, on 02/20/2008, -6/+119I have wanted to contribute for a long time, but as a single income family of five, every dollar is usually claimed in advance.
As an adult, I have always felt an obligation to vote, but not a yearning to. Like many people I recognize I have the right but didn't see it as a privilege. The process makes one cynical. Nothing changes, the same names election after election, the same outcome in Washington. At times I marked my ballot to make a statement when there was no chance for a candidate to win. I have also voted not for, but against a candidate. I don't feel I have been represented and I haven't supported many of the decisions made on our behalf. But, I am not unreasonable. I recognize that it is impossible for a single person/party to represent everyone's beliefs, but is it really the will of the people?
This is the first time have been inspired by a politician. There. I said it. But it still doesn't sound right. Perhaps that's because I don't see Barack Obama as a politician, but as a leader.
The opposition and media can call it what they will, but don't trivialize it. This is a moment in America that can truly define our nation for this and the next generation. Just consider the diverse backgrounds of all of the people who were in the running for this nomination. It is really amazing and the time is right (now) for something/someone different. And slowly the people are showing that its not just anyone different. The process is working. The people are not only speaking, they are shouting it. And it grows louder with each person that hears the call and joins in.
At thirty-five years old, I don't necessarily consider myself a part of the youth movement, but I do represent my children and they deserve a better world and that starts with a better nation. So I make my decisions not just for me, but for what I feel will be best for them.
I never thought I would be having any type political conversations with my fourth grader, but after seeing the "Yes We Can" video, their interest was sparked and they had to tell their friends where to see it themselves. I think that is a testament to the breadth of this message. When a ten year old feels touched and wants to know more about democracy, I know I have made the right choice.
I have been a supporter for quite some time and honestly I would have loved to buy a shirt, but I decided it was more important that I own a piece of the campaign and candidate I believe in. - rz8472, on 02/20/2008, -6/+95Don't worry Hillary supporters; (and this is true) a shadowy 527 special interest group has just formed that of course has no official link to the Clinton 08 campaign and is asking her rich donors to give $100,000 a piece so they can run ads sliming Obama.
- shanehonda, on 05/19/2009, -5/+62Truly amazing. If this campaign doesn't inspire you, then you're bound to be disappointed your entire life.
- Keef69, on 02/20/2008, -1/+48One million may be reached as early as tomorrow evening :-)
- digidelia, on 02/20/2008, -2/+41just gave him $20, my first political donation ever
- okayokayokay, on 02/20/2008, -5/+43DIGG THIS STORY UP! Let's push it beyond a million before the next debate!
(I've given twice already - I've never donated to a campaign before this.) - juliobats, on 02/20/2008, -4/+41With this kind of grassroots support, the lobbyists and special interest groups will never dare even approach Obama to drown the people's voices and try to influence his administration. The Voice of the People will finally be heard in Obama's White House.
- ShooterMcGavin, on 02/20/2008, -2/+36I have never given a dime to any political candidate in my life. Never. I have also always considered myself a republican (albeit with a independent/libertarian streak).
That being said, I have donated to Obama. And probably will again. - afidler, on 02/20/2008, -3/+36"...I don't see Barack Obama as a politician, but as a leader."
EXACTLY my sentiments, good sir. - bsdboy, on 02/20/2008, -2/+29I got $5.01 on it.
- lgehron, on 02/20/2008, -2/+27rz8472 's comment (sorry, I buried it by mistake! I meant to Digg it resoundingly!)

Also the first time I have donated to any politician in my short time being in politics.
- afidler, on 02/20/2008, -0/+19unique donors.
- OneHandBandito, on 02/20/2008, -5/+24I've never donated to a presidential campaign in my life but I just donated to Obama. He's not like the others.
- gypsi, on 02/20/2008, -2/+21dumbass, 3/4 of your last 30 submissions were Ron Paul related
- afidler, on 02/20/2008, -9/+26Does anyone really think that Obama can't reach 1,000,000 within a few weeks?
- RansomHoldiay, on 02/20/2008, -0/+17he got nearly 50,000 alone last night. this goal is probably to small.
- N3tw0rk, on 02/20/2008, -1/+171 million donors does in fact send a powerful message to America. We are tired of the same old BS politics!
- ZSmasher, on 02/20/2008, -0/+15Good point. But isn't that the chicken or the the egg? Wouldn't he need to be elected first to see if our government will be improved?
- rikwakefield, on 02/20/2008, -0/+15The first polititian in my lifetime that has impressed me. If I were Amercian, Obama would definitely be getting my vote.
- bjs3171, on 02/20/2008, -0/+14are they saying it's almost one million donations, or one million unique donors? cuz i've donated twice.
- consoneo, on 02/21/2008, -0/+14Why not go to his website, and look at the "Issues" section...
http://www.barackobama.com/issues/ - bjs3171, on 02/20/2008, -0/+14$250 here.
- jonnyboyca, on 02/20/2008, -1/+14The wrath of Hillary will be unleashed soon... shield your eyes everyone or else be turned to stone!
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -2/+15You, sir, are a star!
- foooey, on 02/20/2008, -0/+13Here's the link to their graphic keeping count:
http://my.barackobama.com/page/contribute_c/onemil ... - lewhich, on 02/20/2008, -0/+12Good feeling to know I'm one in that million
- inactive, on 02/21/2008, -4/+16This is a message to Hillary
"No you can't!" - JulyZerg, on 02/21/2008, -2/+13Obama FTW! I've sent money to my family in america so they can donate.
- okayokayokay, on 02/20/2008, -0/+11it's 1 million PEOPLE, not donations.
- afidler, on 02/20/2008, -0/+11Actually I have donated...twice...so get out your checkbook!
- Jay123, on 02/21/2008, -2/+12Hillary was Bill's second choice... She should be our second choice too.
- BrendanSheehan, on 02/20/2008, -0/+10Haha!!
I agree, it's just one of those moments you don't get much these days, if at all. If he wins I can almost sense his being one of the great, great presidencies. One for the grandchildren. - catachip, on 02/21/2008, -1/+10You can mail a cheque or money order made out to "Obama for America" to this address: Obama for America P.O. Box 802798 Chicago, Illinois, USA 60680
- Tehrab, on 02/21/2008, -5/+14Best money I've ever spent.
- mthole, on 02/20/2008, -0/+9For Mac users, open up the image linked above, then control-click in Safari and choose 'Open in Dashboard'. It'll make a Web Clip widget out of the image, so you can see the updated count whenever you activate Dashboard.
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -3/+12Word.
- dxgg, on 02/20/2008, -0/+9Considering a recurring monthly payment!
- Pilot85, on 02/20/2008, -0/+9$25.00 yo.
- Rahodeb, on 02/20/2008, -6/+15I don't see him as a leader until he leads. Change is easy to say, hard to do and is the mantra of every politician. I'll stop being cynical when I see our government actually improve.
- Whippets, on 02/20/2008, -5/+131,000,000. Easy. Yes we can.
- Eiknujrac, on 02/20/2008, -1/+8Quite an amazing amount of people, but like others have said I'm sure the goal is too low!
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -3/+10So. Don't read it. Better still, don't comment to it. Everyone's happy!
- jrak, on 02/20/2008, -2/+9Add me +1
- HenvY, on 02/20/2008, -1/+8How can I donate? I have no credit card, especially not an American one.
- Akronos, on 02/21/2008, -0/+6They were all anti-Ron Paul too. Lets be clear about that.
For example, "Countdown to the end of Ron Paul's campaign", "Doesn't look good for Ron Paul #253", "Ron Paul's support drops 98.8% in just TWO MONTHS!", "The funniest desperate delusion of RonPaulians".
This guy hates on anyone for change, be it Ron Paul or Obama. ***** him, establishment tool. - MacEnvy, on 02/21/2008, -0/+6It even got submitted (not by me) ... but didn't do well enough to hit the front page:
http://www.digg.com/political_opinion/Obama_s_Blue ... - ApokalypseNow, on 02/21/2008, -0/+6You'd probably have to make a widget specifically for this - Vista isn't as friendly as MacOS when it comes to such things.
- SenorCardgage74, on 02/20/2008, -0/+6I dont doubt you, I just wonder if you have a supporting link to that. Something I can use to get word out.
- Spektr4, on 02/21/2008, -2/+8All this info is out there, and I wish it would get onto Digg to help end this meme that says Obama has no substance. He's 46 so he doesn't have a mile-long record, but he does have a record. He coauthored the Coburn-Obama bill to expose federal earmarks...you may have heard it called the "Google for government" bill. He coauthored the Lugar-Obama bill to confront weapons proliferation. He worked with Russ Feingold on anti-lobbyist legislation. He also helped reform lobbying in Illinois as a state senator, and this is clearly an important issue to him.
You asked about the rest of the world? He authored a bill to provide relief for and promote democracy in the Congo. He traveled to Kenya to forcefully condemn corruption. In fact he's travelled to a number of places while serving on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. In addition to Africa he's gone to former Soviet states to address weapons proliferation, as well as the Middle East to speak on resolving conflicts there. Bear in mind, he's the only candidate running who has experience actually living abroad (Indonesia). From what I've read, the rest of the world is rooting for him to win the presidency. -
