- ReasonWinsOut, on 04/02/2009, -38/+401An informed intellectual with a nuanced grasp of complex world issues; a calm, measured tone; and an ability to bring opposing sides together. It is so refreshing to finally have a competent, intelligent president who so deservedly commands the respect of world leaders.
- seltaeb4, on 04/03/2009, -22/+271This can't be true... did we actually elect... a DIPLOMAT?!?!?!
- GlobalGizmo, on 04/02/2009, -20/+217Completely agree...Obama seems to be very respected among all of these leaders. It's a nice change.
- sheasie, on 04/03/2009, -27/+151Great example of why I voted for the guy. He naturally rises above the stereotypical ego battles.
- freedomjoe, on 04/03/2009, -20/+141Reporters were saying that Bush could have never even come close to that as he was intimidated by these meetings -- remember, he had never been out of the country, much like Palin. He had very limited exposure to other cultures, let alone dignitaries.
People tried to make anyone who made that point about Palin feel guilty, but why? Why would we elect someone who could not handle the world stage, had no exposure to other cultures, at such a perilous time in our world standing?
Yes, we have much to be proud of. He is extraordinary. And I doubt anyone on that list could have done that -- Obama has a unique way of treating all like equals while elevating people to their highest behavior. It's a gift. I do think Crist has the temperament, but not quite the charm.
At any rate, we did good, America!:-) Be proud and don't let the constant attacks from the bitter right bring you down or ruin 2012. - anshuman, on 04/03/2009, -13/+127exactly, if bushy was there, he would had screamed "Fight!! Fight!!! Fightt!!!... Go Commieee!!!!"
- angrycat, on 04/03/2009, -7/+117You gotta admit though, if Jintao and Sarkozy started throwing their shoes, Bush would be the man to dodge them.
- Insightful, on 04/03/2009, -17/+114Bush would have just winked at the Queen of England *, creeps out the German Chancellor **, and addressed the Prime Minister via "Yo." ***
The sad thing thing is: all of the above happened.

Someone who truly believes in communication and compromise so as to reach solutions. What a blessing this man is.
"Sarah Palin: no ***** chance"
That made me roar with laughter!!! (Too damn right) - kahoona1, on 04/03/2009, -8/+86Bush would say something along the lines of "He just called you a pussy, you gonna take that?"
- ThsGuyRightHere, on 04/02/2009, -36/+106In no particular order, here are some recent and future presidential hopefuls and presidents and my humble opinion on which of them could have pulled this off:
Hillary Clinton: strong maybe
John McCain: weak maybe
Sarah Palin: no ***** chance
Geroge W. Bush: Not likely
Mitt Romney: maybe
Charlie Crist: very likely
Ron Paul: maybe... if in fact he would even attend a G20 summit - beclee, on 04/03/2009, -21/+87i saw this on the evening news last night and teared up a little. for the first time in my life, i'm truly proud of our president
- diggduggDOOM, on 04/03/2009, -11/+74How was this possible without the shoulder-massaging prowess of Bush?
- HunterKiller, on 04/03/2009, -2/+51Didn't Palin step between two men in "Nailin' Palin" ?
- haentz, on 04/03/2009, -14/+58You guys did the World a huge favor electing this guy... Thanks!
- ippey, on 04/03/2009, -4/+45Because the Chinese are easier to work with than most Republicans.
- MediaWeasel, on 04/03/2009, -10/+49When you see the President handle such a situation in such a statesmanlike way, you realise quite how ineffectual the other contenders would have been. I don't wish to insult Clinton, but I agree with FreedomJoe that President Obama has a very rare gift and I think he will do more for world cohesion and peace that one can even imagine right now.
That's not to say I'm starrry eyed about the man - I'm as careful in my support as one should be - but by criminy he's only been in office since late January and he's already made huge inroads into the mess he has inherited. - ApokalypseNow, on 04/03/2009, -4/+41Without question, President Obama did well- however, we do have to take into consideration that our perception of the incident has been dramatically colored by the previous 8 years of fail... ah hell with it, I'm happy we've got a capable leader.
Either way, I hope for a time when we as a nation are not surprised when the President acts, well, Presidential. - beclee, on 04/03/2009, -6/+42it's not just this...it's the other great things he's done so far. i'm only 24 and while i remember some of the clinton era, most of my memories are of a failure of a president. this is a nice change
- peaceninja, on 04/03/2009, -4/+38Dennis Kucinich..would have sprinkled his lucky charms on everyone and dashed out in a mad rush
- Huselius, on 04/03/2009, -1/+34I disagree with you, but dugg you anyway for being respectful and logical.
- TheCooler72, on 04/03/2009, -4/+36Sounds like you've got some of your own. I'm guessing cherry by the color.
Not all positive comments about Obama are some Kool-aid-drinking hope-gasm. This was just kind of cool, is all. - rabidjester, on 04/03/2009, -8/+39It's refreshing because he's only been president for a couple months. I think the cutoff should be the one year mark - until then, it's refreshing season.
- JenniferInMO, on 04/03/2009, -12/+41Yes, it is a big deal.
FDR attended a similar meeting early in his Presidency and he couldn't get the other industrialized nations to agree on anything. After 6 weeks of meetings we all went home and became more isolationist. And considering our pathetic lack of stature on the world stage for the past 8 years our current President's performance was extraordinary. - MediaWeasel, on 04/03/2009, -6/+33"Obama has a unique way of treating all like equals while elevating people to their highest behavior. It's a gift"
Beautifully put. Yes he does have that gift. - relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -0/+26Dubya had moves.
- diggdong, on 04/03/2009, -9/+34Word on the street Sarkozy was double dipping the clam dip.
- ThsGuyRightHere, on 04/03/2009, -0/+25I was thinking more along the lines of him having difficulty talking to the leader of a communist country, but you raise a good point as well.
- mjk340, on 04/03/2009, -3/+28Anakin Skywalker could have done it in Episode 2 but not Episode 1 or Episode 3.
- kasjogren, on 04/03/2009, -0/+25I find his wife pretty sexy.
- acknotSW, on 04/03/2009, -4/+28I voted for bush the first time, but obama is the kind of president we needed after 911. Bush was a cowboy when we needed a statesman.
- Ryan32, on 04/03/2009, -20/+44I don't doubt Obama is a good person... He seems like a real down to earth guy actually...
I absolutely despise most of his policies though.... He'd be better suited as a foreign liaison. - muzfuz, on 04/03/2009, -5/+28It will take you a loooong time to live Bush down, even if you did swing around and do the great thing afterwards.
- Dweller99, on 04/03/2009, -6/+28"Considering Obama followers have become blindly hateful of everything republicans did to this country for the last 8 years."
Fixed that for you. - inactive, on 04/03/2009, -4/+25Kinda makes you wonder what might've happened with Bush if it hadn't been for 9/11. Honestly, I gotta admit, he didn't seem so bad at first - then ***** hit the fan and he wasn't ready to deal with it.
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -8/+28You guys lost. Get over it and start helping clean up the messes you left us.
- enginbeeringSB, on 04/03/2009, -3/+23Just FYI,
In China (as well as other eastern countries), the Family name comes first, so "Jintao" is his personal name. "Hu" is his family name (what we refer to in English as the "Last Name"). Nobody in China calls a person by their personal name alone.
In other words, it's either Hu Jintao, or just Hu. Calling him "Jintao" doesn't really make sense. - kasjogren, on 04/03/2009, -2/+21You have to wait for the arbitrary 100 days. It is what the media narrative tells me to think.
- captainbethany, on 04/03/2009, -0/+19You dipped the chip. You took a bite. And you dipped again!!
- doti, on 04/03/2009, -1/+19"for the first time in your life". careful, Michelle Obama was practically made a terrorist for using that phrase
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -1/+19I guess that's true.
- quarando, on 04/03/2009, -6/+24He has tried. Many Americans who disagree with him are so eager to paint him as a Socialist that is going to destroy the world that working with them becomes difficult.
- kasjogren, on 04/03/2009, -4/+22Are you talking about Rush's Republican party or the one that lasted for 150 years?
- tdog138, on 04/03/2009, -4/+22You are welcome.
- charm803, on 04/02/2009, -13/+30I think McCain would be strong as well, for the fact that he did become somewhat a mediator when he was captive.
That being said, I don't know that it would cross his mind to do so, seeing as how he let his supporters run amock.
Dammit, that means you're right: weak maybe. - JasonCox, on 04/03/2009, -4/+21I can't help but think "You know you're in trouble when the President of the United States takes you over to the corner to have a private little chat wtih you".
- Sarthax, on 04/03/2009, -1/+18Wait, are you now comparing Eskimos in our own borders to foreign leaders and heads of state? I guess when Palin stepped off the plane and saw a brown person she was exposed to another culture. Seeing Russia from her house also gives her Foreign Leadership experience as well.
Idiot. - sigmaman2, on 04/03/2009, -7/+24"Or 6 years from now, will you still be feeling refreshed when Obama does something he has done many times before?"
Maybe so. I took a shower every day 6 years ago. And when I took one this morning, I still felt refreshed.
I know what you're saying. Maybe the word is getting overused. But it's such a welcome change from the past, and these changes, no matter how small, are so noticeable, that you can't help feeling...well, you know. - NovaPrime9, on 04/03/2009, -1/+17Holy *****. You just lost an argument with yourself.
Awesome! - Kelto1, on 04/03/2009, -1/+17Dug up for the language lesson.
