- homercles337, on 08/25/2008, -21/+144Isnt that libel? If they dont investigate the system is truly broken.
- grlykool, on 08/25/2008, -25/+143Remember folks these people call themselves Christians, but they'll do anything for power.
- slugicide, on 08/25/2008, -25/+133So, "swiftboating" was a good start and "terrorist links" is the new move. What will the Republicans come up with next cycle? Possible spy for a hostile nation? Wouldn't put it past them.
- darkciti2, on 08/25/2008, -41/+122Shameless Repugnant *****.
- zenithmbr, on 08/26/2008, -28/+93I'm so tired of huffington post spam crap. Here's the link to the original article:

Go to this instead of giving money to greedy huffington for their spam articles. - TheRhinoceros, on 08/25/2008, -33/+82For trying to link Obama to terrorists, I call you an Unamerican *****, Simmons!
For being the sole donor to "American Issues Project" the 2008 version of Swift vets and POWs for truth, I call you an Unamerican *****, Harold Simmons!
For Being a large donor, $4,000,000 for the Not so swift vets in 2004, I call you an Unamerican *****, Harold Simmons!
Oh, here's a quote from Harold Simmons Page on Wikipedia: "He also became well known through personal videos that were leaked showing him fornicating with animals. This controversy has remained will hidden by Simmons' ability to buy people off with large sums of money."
No Lie, go to wikipedia and look it up. I'm not necessarily buying it, but it's out there, and should be looked into, just for laughs if nothing else. It wouldn't surprise me if he was just another no good Republican squirrel *****. - TheRhinoceros, on 08/26/2008, -20/+70To Vexingmod: in what way was Barack Obama Linked to those Bombings? You willing to speak to that? The only realistic way to connect to Ayers activities as a terrorist would be to
a) connect to his Ideology, which Obama has decried, or
b) connect to his activities, which Obama never did, being only 8 years old at the time.
The charges are not just spurious but completely laughable. The only reason they get any real talk generated is by people like you who buy the ***** that those cowardly enemies of Freedom, the neocons put out.
Go salute your master, Fuhrer Bush, you Republibot. - ryanmbruce, on 08/26/2008, -3/+38Ad in question: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXXr9oLd9S4
- sulthernao, on 08/26/2008, -7/+33Yep. You're so right. My bad, Obama: The great 8 year old terrorist school child from Hawaii!!!
Bill Ayers is a reformed member of society. He college professor here in Chicago. Obama knows him only in passing - they live in the same area.
If you really want to destroy Obama, you should use something that can't be refuted easily like Keating 5 or something...oh wait. - repins, on 08/26/2008, -7/+26Only if what they said is shown to be false, if is true then it is not libel
- allnone, on 08/26/2008, -12/+30Doesn't really work, unless you're actually dumb enough to think, that he's going to have terrorist takeover America and kill us all. Sadly, we actually have people just that dumb. *sigh*
- fuse13, on 08/26/2008, -3/+20@vexingmodstwo. When did you decry rape? I can only assume you are pro-rape.
- spudhead, on 08/26/2008, -4/+21You're gay for a lot of things.
- Midtowner, on 08/26/2008, -2/+18Maybe false light, but even that is a stretch. Certainly not libel though since no false/damaging Facts were mentioned in the ad.
The First Amendment generally would protect this sort of speech. Here, it says things which are absolutely public record -- that Obama's first campaign was hatched in Ayers' living room, that they served on a board together, that Ayers said certain things regarding his involvement with the Weather Underground.
Like it or not, Obama's interactions with former domestic terrorists and political extremists are fair game in an election just as the words "McSame" or "McBush" are not actionable even though they arguably falsely imply that McCain is a carbon copy as Bush (hey, we know he didn't vote with Bush at least 10% of the time!)
That's the law here though, I don't think there's a case. No comment on the morality aspect. - Andyschism, on 08/26/2008, -1/+16Slander is freedom of speech?
- OC73, on 08/26/2008, -10/+25Why try and silence something? Why not counter it with the truth?
- inactive, on 08/26/2008, -0/+15@michaelb
You have a funny way of "not troll trying to troll". Freedom of speech covers pretty much anything. This is libel and, if it can be proven to be so, it is malicious and you can claim damages from it. However, it is legal.
You're allowed to say whatever you want, but be warned, if you go around town saying your neighbor has a meth lab in his basement and the police show up, only to find he's clean, you're in a world of trouble. - Me1000, on 08/26/2008, -7/+19because there are people out there that are going to go around using that against Obama, the same people that say Obama is a Muslim, just because they heard it once on Fox.No no amount of countering with fact will change their opinions!
'Tis sad! - fuzzmeister, on 08/26/2008, -12/+24People should read more about Ayers, as he is certainly a more complex man than these attack ads are painting him as. I, for one, accept Obama's explanation that who a person was 40 years ago (when Obama was 8, by the way) isn't the same as who they are now. Also, Obama has thoroughly denounced Ayer's past actions.
Here's a quote about the Obama-Ayers connection from Michael Kinsley in Time:
"If Obama's relationship with Ayers, however tangential, exposes Obama as a radical himself, or at least as a man with terrible judgment, he shares that radicalism or terrible judgment with a comically respectable list of Chicagoans and others — including Republicans and conservatives — who have embraced Ayers and Dohrn as good company, good citizens, even experts on children's issues." - inchrnt, on 08/26/2008, -11/+22Who are the IDIOTS who would believe the premise that a candidate for the American presidency would be support terrorists.
This whole concept is just moronic. - TheRhinoceros, on 08/26/2008, -11/+22Vex... 2nd point first. It very much IS the issue. Find me a shred of real evidence that it is anything more then what Barack has said it was. Do you KNOW that it's anything more than that? Can you? No. So he was in the guys house early in his Career for a fundraiser.
So ***** What?
Ayers is a big player on the Chicago political scene, has been for years. I'm sure Richard Daley has been to the Ayers residence once or twice. Are you going to call him a terrorist communist as well?
Why hate Americans like Obama who are trying to FIX a clearly broken America when the Republicans hide behind the flag while destroying the Freedom we hold dear while pretending to care about it?
point one: You haven't seen it because you haven't looked. The man is a millionaire from the sales of his books. Millionaire's and communism don't mix.
Oh, one more point. Why focus on these things? Perhaps because it takes away from the argument that Obama has the Best plan for America of all the Candidates? Anything to cloud the issues from the Obama-haters, the real issues, Like who will be better for the American economy, or who will get Americans better health care, or which candidate is really better for the environment or education.
The answer is simple. you NEED to come up with this crap, because you can't win on the issues.
It's OK to admit that this whole Ayers thing is a distraction from the republicans, a non issue to try and make America question the better candidate with the better plan. It's OK to admit it because it's true.
Have a Good night. - archiesteel, on 08/26/2008, -4/+15vexingmodstwo, as usual you are dishonest in how you present the facts - that's probably because you know the facts don't support your insinuations, and therefore have no choice but to lie in order to further your agenda.
Ayers and Obama met four times a year, for half a day, as part of board meetings for a charity. There were plenty of other people there, and the meetings were conducted in a business-like fashion. Ayers and Obama were *not* close, they were *not* friends, and there is *no* reason to believe they ever talked about policy or Ayers' past action. Obama has made it clear he considers what Ayers has done in the past to be "detestable acts."
This "guilty by association" lies of yours aren't much convincing in light of McCain's own past scandals, from getting a free pass in the Navy despite having coming in at the bottom of his class, dumping his faithful wife to marry into money, having been involved in fraud in the Keating 5 scandal, and so on.
The difference is that we don't have to lie to expose McCain's faults: they're all a matter of public record - and that's why McCain will lose in November, despite the best efforts of his loyal disinformers. - ozydingo, on 08/26/2008, -5/+16That's a very thorough argument you present there: Liberals hate truth because people are digging my shallow comment that does not add anything to the discussion down without ever mothering to reply with an equally meaningless and equally childish "no you're wrong!" Never mind that that point alone, as stupid as it is, has absolutely nothing to do with liking or hating the truth, or liberals.
- bigcynic, on 08/26/2008, -6/+17When a scumbag like Simmons sinks to this level of lying, we must all demand he answer the question, "Then just *why* do you want McCain elected?"
- sulthernao, on 08/26/2008, -6/+17How about some sources? Oh wait there aren't any, dumbass. If you can hit Obama on Ayers why can't I hit Bush on his nazi sympathizer grandfather who tried to have a military coup of FDR?

- DeadPlasmaCell, on 08/26/2008, -5/+15This.
- danielsousa, on 08/26/2008, -2/+11really? If i read correctly, all he said was:
Remember folks these people call themselves Christians, but they'll do anything for power.
which I took to mean, Republicans aren't acting like Christians, which is to imply Christians are supposed to have morals, to which Republicans are no abiding.
A tad defensive are we? - OC73, on 08/26/2008, -5/+14Silencing his critics won't make their allegations go away. If anything it will make things worse.
- IpecacNeat, on 08/26/2008, -2/+11If you investigate the backgrounds of the people you associate with, I'm sure you will find some disturbing things.
- niczar, on 08/26/2008, -2/+10The worse they could do, I guess, would be to sell arms to the nation's worst enemy and use the proceeds to fund terrorist groups.
Oh wait, they already did that 25 years ago.

There's no reason in the world anyone ever has to ask that question again.
Google. It's not rocket science. - simeonart, on 08/26/2008, -0/+8infinity - are you serious. you must be a mcbush follower claiming that having countries fighting is good as long as they are our enemies. next you will be claiming that it makes perfect sense to invade another country based on falsified evidence of wmds...
- GoneGreen, on 08/26/2008, -16/+23Follow the money... this billionaire assclown is protecting his fortune in the only way he knows how.... getting that jackass McCain elected... This is shameful.
- Sfenton, on 08/26/2008, -6/+14Wow, and they have references to back it up.
- vexingmodstwo, on 08/26/2008, -5/+13As of 2001, he hadn't changed and said that the Weather Underground should have done MORE.
- IIAmusedII, on 08/26/2008, -1/+9Well, no matter what the DoJ decides to do about this, at least we can know that it will be fair and not based on partisan politics.
- funkymoose, on 08/26/2008, -13/+21so far I don't think anyone who's posted yet has proved otherwise..
The most anyone is saying is "...but he's changed!" - IpecacNeat, on 08/26/2008, -2/+9My college doesn't shut down free speech. We have rallies and clubs for every type of organization. What are you talking about kosmoX?
- ivansusanin, on 08/26/2008, -5/+12all republicans are white christians. if they're not, then they're not real republicans.
- Rahodeb, on 08/26/2008, -5/+12I love how repins can state an absolute fact about libel and get dugg down.
This is not libel, even if you don't like it. There are no false statements. They ask some open ended questions, the potential answer to which could imply certain things about Obama. That's not libel. - deweyhewson, on 08/26/2008, -17/+23I guess we've established what time the Republican bots come out...
- DarkStryke, on 08/26/2008, -11/+18BushCo supporters are getting nervous. Must suck to know that your neocon regime that has brought hundreds of thousands of civilian deaths to the people of this world, including multiple thousands of American armed forces deaths is about to come to an end.
- inactive, on 08/26/2008, -23/+30Would someone explain how the Obama/Ayers connection is BS? Or are you Obamabots not contending that? You're just mad because it gives people some good insight on who they are actually voting for?
- sodoh, on 08/26/2008, -1/+8In America libel laws are a bit strange to what others are used to.
For example in the UK. If you believe you can sue someone for libel then it is up to the person who made the remark to prove that it is true or they get in trouble.
In America libel laws work in that you (the person being libeled) have to prove that the malice was involved.
That is why you continually see this sort of crap going on Fox News. Things like the Question Mark?
http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?vide ... - vexingmodstwo, on 08/26/2008, -1/+8Kazaki, are you that dumb? Are you saying because Bush is President that college administrators are all Republican? Or even part of the administration? Are you stoned?
