littlegreenfootballs.com — Eight days after the atrocities of September 11, 2001, Barack Obama wrote a piece for the Hyde Park Herald —and blamed the attacks on “a failure of empathy.”

- ChesapeakeBaybe, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3Sadly, I don't think he sees it that way. There is a contingency of people in this country who feel violence and destructive behavior among certain groups is tolerable because it is seen as a symptom of poverty and oppression. The policies that result from this way of thinking are soft on criminals and throw more tax dollars to inner city programs: that at best don't work and at worst become a corrupt money grabs. In most instances it creates a culture of dependency, where people feel they are entitled to help ( a job, welfare, drug treatment, mercy). I call these the policies of guilt because they are dependent on responsible people feeling guilty for the irresponsible. Others simply call them Communism.
After reading these comments by Obama, I'm left feeling he is much scarier than I first believed.

- WriterSD, on 07/14/2008, -3/+17That's scary.
- Chip53, on 07/14/2008, -4/+18If this guy's elected it will be a failure of common sense.
- Maninthemiddle, on 07/14/2008, -2/+19Apparently the lack of empathy is so significant that it predates the entity known as the United States.
1.5 million Americans and Europeans were enslaved or held hostage by "Mussulmen" in the 16th-18th centuries.
The newly formed USA was particularly vulnerable once it left the protection of the Royal Navy.
Tribute paid to the Barbary Muslims reached an enormous 10% of the new country's budget.
Tripoli (Libya) and Morocco declared war on America when too much became too much and tribute was withheld by the US.
While far left revisionists currently scramble to make these historical truths a mere trade issue, there are a number of excellent books that make clear the basis for the piracy.
Thomas Jefferson accompanied John Adams to England in March 1785 for talks with Tripoli’s ambassador to London, Abd Al-Rahman.
Americas foremost ambasssdors inquired why the Barbary states attacked American ships, pirated goods, and enslaved both crews and passengers when the United States had not been in existence long enough to form enemies among the Barbary states.
They received an interesting answer:
“...it is written in the Koran, that all Nations who should not have acknowledged the preeminence of the Muslim states authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon whoever they could find and to make slaves of all they could take as prisoners, and that every Mussulman who should be slain in battle was sure to go to Paradise.”
Empathize that Mr. Obama.- DanThePainter, on 07/15/2008, -0/+7Thanks Maninthemiddle;
Here is an excellent article on the topic:
America’s Earliest Terrorists
Lessons from America’s first war against Islamic terror.

That is a very good article. It is baffling that so many cannot see that the seeds for jihad behavior were sown in the days of Mohammad - not GWB, and it is the anti-sharia, moderate Muslims who are fighting the battle for change.
- Maninthemiddle, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5Howdy Dan,

- dandan111, on 07/15/2008, -2/+17Obama’s comments display an appalling disconnect from reality.
Osama bin Laden came from one of the richest families in the world. None of the 9/11 attackers were poor; if anything, they could be considered “middle class.” Ringleader Mohammed Atta was educated as an architect in the West.
Almost everything Obama wrote in this article was proven wrong. And he gave absolutely no consideration at all to the ideology of radical Islam, which is much more to blame than any imaginary “poverty” or “lack of empathy.”
And now he’s within reach of the presidency. - jamessavik, on 07/15/2008, -1/+10"Failure of empathy" my ass. It was the crash of 3 jumbo-jets full of fuel into occupied buildings. It's a damned miracle that we didn't have three times as many casualties.
To say something that damned condescending to Americans is a failure of empathy. - Theway2k, on 07/15/2008, -1/+6Obama can view 9/11 in no other way. Democrats make a living on telling people they are impoverished and ignorant and the DP is here to alleviate their suffering and social imprisonment. Democrats lie.
- JonGalt, on 07/15/2008, -1/+5"It may find expression in a particular brand of violence, and may be channeled by particular demagogues or fanatics."
Ya, that about sums up the average obama supporter.
@The way2k
Your right and the principle your talking about is called guilt. They require your sanction to make you their victims and the guiltier they make you feel about everything that is actually right but not useful to them, the more they can control you. Although I would argue that both republicans and democrats both look for ways to guilt you into voting for them. - BigBenKlingon, on 07/15/2008, -2/+2So, uhhh, you guys just picked up on this eh?
That's some crack detective work there Lou.
