- pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -9/+102funny how clinton was labeled a draft-dodger, but bush and cheney are not.
- littlebylittle, on 10/12/2007, -7/+97Why can't he just go find himself some "other priorities" now?
- otatop, on 10/12/2007, -10/+92Clinton bailed like a pansy.
Real men like Cheney got deferments, and heroes like Bush went to the Air National Guard up until you had to prove you weren't on coke.
Besides, everyone acts like Clinton was a saint. Have you forgotten he got a blow job? Won't somebody think of the children?! - BeefBaron, on 10/12/2007, -3/+61If anyone thinks rich people like Cheney would ever serve in a war, let me just say:
Hahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahha. Ouch, my freaking lungs. - brlittle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+56@Xageroth:
The point is not that Cheney got five deferments, or that any of us might do the same (I would). The point is that Cheney took five deferments, exercising every muscle to avoid service in another man's ill-advised, doomed war of choice, and is now sending other people's children to die in another man's ill-advised, doomed war of choice. The point is that Cheney has spent six years openly questioning the patriotism of those who say we shouldn't be doing this, when it was plainly okay for _him_ to do it. The point is irony. The point is hypocrisy. Which should be no surprise coming from a man who claims to love his homosexual daughter, while leading a party that routinely denies homosexuals their rights.
Hypocrisy must be a Republican gene or something. - darkmule, on 10/12/2007, -1/+51A real man doesn't get a deferment, a real man goes to Canada. A rich boy on the other hand.. they get deferments.
- UFOcool23, on 10/12/2007, -12/+55Hey, at least our country boomed under Clinton. I'd prefer a cheating husband for a president over one that seems to find the English language a monumental challenge
- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+45A lot of people had other priorities in the 60's. Like their jobs, businesses, families.. oh, and not dying. Didn't stop them from being shipped off.
- shadus, on 10/12/2007, -8/+39... or the biggest tool bag known to man, take your choice.
- AeonTorpor, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35Saints don't get blow jobs? ***** that *****!
- Keach, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29Cheney:
Me going to fight for my country when called = Hogwash.
You going to fight for my country when called = Not Hogwash. - cocacolaclassic, on 10/12/2007, -17/+42 How can you call yourself a patriot if you have 5 deferments? Thats ***** BS.
- NeedleGuy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27How many honorable men and women has your father sent to die so some oil companies can make more money?
- SgtAl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22Cheney is the king of the chicken hawks. He was too important to serve but he doesn't mind sending other peoples children off to die.
- appetite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23He bears an uncanny resemblance to a young non-animated Montgomery Burns.
- littlebylittle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Using the word "Libtards" in a comment is retarded.
- Dumbledorito, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20@iceperson: And Republicans elected someone who went AWOL from the Texas Air National Guard over two decorated veterans (Kerry and McCain), taking the time to smear both to an extent that any decent person should find utterly repulsive.
- JonForTheWin, on 10/12/2007, -12/+31The draft is a horrible thing. Not all of us are meant to go off and fight illegal wars that put America in more danger every day by making hatred for America justified in the eyes of the rest of the world.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Cheney is a ***** criminal
- Bleeblaow, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Dick Cheney: great vice president, or greatest vice president?
This picture is hilarious, apparently he's always had that evil smirk: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Richard_Cheney_with_another_member_of_the_Ford_administration_staff_at_the_White_House.jpg - Xageroth, on 10/12/2007, -19/+35As much as I hate Cheney, I can't judge a man for what I would do myself. The draft is a horrible affront to personal freedom. Not all of us are meant to be soldiers.

http://www.slate.com/id/1005761/ - appetite, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Well, even if Bush's actions end up with net-positive results, I would hope 20 years don't erase our memories of how he hasn't had a single coherent explanation for any of his disastrous decisions. If we trace good consequences back to this era, it will be because of the resilience and cooperation of the common man, not the intelligent design of Dubya.
For example, New Orleans will eventually rebuild itself. Maybe it will be better than it was before. Regardless, I'll make it abundantly clear right now that in 20 years, I won't be praising Katrina. - geronimo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18John Kerry saved lives in Vietnam, was even awarded a silver star, and this is somehow turned around and a draft dodger like Cheney supports the troops more. Hmm.
- qshady, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Anyone who isn't already aware of that fact isn't going to be convinced by some link
- biotch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16In a way, his support for the war and hypocritical unwillingness to go to war resembles his support and leadership of a party that treats gays unfairly while he is father to an openly gay and now pregnant daughter.
It seems that he has an expectation of Americans that does not apply to his own or his family's livelyhood or moral standard of living.
edit: bootlegged ... ya beat me to it :) - Keach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Cheney:
You Terrorist Supporters talking about me being a Draft-Dodger 5 times over is just a bunch of Hogwash.
Me sending National Guardsmen on 5 back-to-back tours in Iraq isn't Hogwash at all. - littlebylittle, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19Isn't it though?
- diggduggjoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12The whole Clinton thing amazes me. Who would fault a man who with a cold, career minded wife, gets a little piece of enjoyment. With all the prying eyes, he could not get a Marilyn Monroe like JFK and had to get stuck with the only available girl, a chubby intern.
I like to think that the man with his finger on "The Button" would be getting laid. A LOT! I want a nice happy guy who wants the world to keep going on.
That is the problem with Bush. Once he went all born again, he has little joy in life. His only hope is the second coming of Christ, so he works diligently pursuing the destruction of planet Earth. - bootlegged, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Funny thing is, he takes a similar position when being pressured about his party's stance on homosexual marriages and how he can rectify it with his lesbian daughter.
On a slight tangent, any debate on the legacy of any president while he is in office is pointless, let all the anger/applause simmer down and wait 20 years. History is the most fair of all critics. - galore, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12"As much as I don't like Darth Cheney, I can't get on him for this."
Why not?
It isn't the problem that he dodged the draft. The problem is that he then went on to become Secretary of Defense and Vice President who was instrumental in a war of agression. So he has no problem sending others to die for his agenda but he would not put himself in harms way for "his country".
That makes him a hypocritical *****. You are fine with that ?! - CausticCat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12But, but, but....CLINTON!!!!!
- haiduz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9John Kerry spoke out against the war after serving and HE KILLED A GUY in vietnam. Thanks voters, you picked a couple of winners for us.
PLease watch the video below on youtube, it is john steward analyzing cheney in a wolf blitzer interview (not a 9/11 hoax video i promise :-) )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUHQ91tPRng
Fast forward to the time mark 3:45. In it Wolf asks chaney about his gay pregranant daughter.......
"how dare you apply my party's inhuman family policies to my family? how dare you? dont you know im exempt? NO Draft no gay things its my family. mhea" - John Steward - STKD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10You mean "because I say so" isn't a coherent and well thought out explanation these days?

FOXIFIED ZOMBIE NUTJOB IDIOT ALERT!
the same brainwashed wackjob inbred redneck fools who still think Saddam had WMDs, attacked us on 911 and have picture of Bush on their nightstand are comin' out of the woodwork!!
The article is about Richard Cheney, the blo-hole, *****. Try to keep up, Shortbus! - liutang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Knowing what we know now about his shooting skills, I think he ended up doing some vets a favor.
- spock627corfu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11@loneranger: I don't have much patience with liars, so will assume you are simply misinformed. I'm not a big fan of Kerry, but falsely attacking the man's service is unethical -- and, frankly, unpatriotic. I have a hard time reconciling honesty, attacking a vet on his record by lying about it, and "supporting the troops." Suggest you read these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swift_Boat_Veterans_for_Truth#Truth_of_claims, http://www.factcheck.org/article231.html, http://www.snopes.com/politics/kerry/service.asp, etc.

- LOLDOORS, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Pot, meet Kettle.
- Swift2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Had to laugh about that "we're not all cut out to be soldiers" comment. No, almost none of us are. But given a draft, a lot of people who aren't cut out to be soldiers end up getting shot at.
Funny thing is, my history with the draft -- I'm just a few years younger than Cheney -- is almost identical. I was married, and in grad school, and I had a kid. 2S was your rating if you were in school, and they wouldn't draft you unless the NVA landed in Long Beach. Then I had a kid, and got a 3A Hardship deferment, and then I turned 26 and I was too old. I figured it was okay, because I was against the war; but even then, I had a lot of friends who would go to the hairiest parts of demonstrations, start taking swings at the cops, all to, as Norman Mailer said, show the cops it wasn't cowardice that was keeping them out of the army. It bugs you, being privileged, going to school, when someone you know is up to his ass in the rice patties and getting skewered by punji sticks. I only became all right with it when I thought, well, I won't burn my draft card -- a good way to get drafted -- because my kid does depend on me. But if I ever do get the notice, I won't go. I'll do ten years in Leavenworth, but I won't go. - jxe8bv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The Republicans sure did bring it up when Mr. Clinton was running just as the Democrats bring this up now in respect to Mr. Cheney.
- JohnNoZ, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8If Obama advocated throwing all drug users, and used the rhetoric of that position to secure political power, then your point might be relevant. Cheney and Bush both use their right-wing, nationalist rhetoric to secure power and drive us into war, but both avoided actively serving in the war of their time. In Cheney's words, he had "other priorities". That is hypocrisy and arrogance. I am certain that the national guard members who have been on multiple tours in Iraq also have other priorities, back home. However, Cheney's leadership keeps them there.
The point is, if these guys feel that these conflicts against communism, dictatorship, terrorism, etc, are our patriotic call to duty, why didn't they put their butts on the line? Why are none of their children in active duty? They preach powerful messages of nationalism and sacrifice, but they have no skin in the game.
Such moral dichotomy does not exist in Obama's case, due to adolescent drug experimentation. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Dear conservatives on Digg:
When the subject at hand has nothing to do with Bill Clinton, and you mention him anyway, you sound like a desperate dog.
When the subject at hand has nothing to do with John Kerry, and you mention him anyway, you sound like a desperate dog.
Actually no, you don't sound like a desperate dog. You sound like a ***** 6-year-old.
Mom: did you hit little Jimmy?
6-Year-old: yeah, but he hit me first!
If this is the best argument you've got, just shut up and save the bandwidth. - appetite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7intelligence and being a selfish ***** are not the same thing.
- armyvet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Now that is funny.
- littlebylittle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Thank-You. This is in fact what Kissinger said. And might I add that Kissinger is a "regular consultant" to the Cheney/Bush Whitehouse.
I'll just bet Kissinger had his hands in the "Project for the New American Century," too ... Along with "Richard Armitage, William J. Bennett, Jeb Bush, Ellen Bork (the daughter of Robert Bork), Dick Cheney, Zalmay Khalilzad, Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Richard Perle, former U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz" and many others.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_for_the_New_American_Century (This is a very interesting read if you haven't had a look at it before.) - JohnNoZ, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Dissent is not anti-American!
Every government holds dissidents in their enemy's countries as patriotic heroes (by which I mean Sakharov being a patriotic Russian, etc). Yet their own dissidents are anti-country.
This is complete ignorance.
If we had more dissent before the war in Iraq, we might not have over 3,000 dead American soldiers. However, anyone who pointed out the stupidity of the war was considered anti-American. Allowing our political leaders to draw us into any conflict they happen to find exciting is not patriotism, and unquestioning support for governmental policy is not supporting troops.
Loving your country and loving your government are often in opposition to one another. When that is the case, the flag-waving, patriots are the ones being decidedly anti-American. They willingly lead us down paths that are terrible for this country. As a side note, I would add that it usually does (not coincidentally) benefit their compatriots in big business (Halliburton, Exxon, Lockheed, etc). Isn't war profiteering anti-American anymore? - zlintux, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8@mrfoos
You misspelled libby, and he's talking quite a bit about Cheney, isn't he? :) -
