- E55P3A, on 10/12/2007, -0/+47The original time I saw these picture they had captions and they were much more insightful. Someone just stole the pictures and put them up on blogspot.
My favourite caption explained that the huge cube blocks on the one lane bridge those cars are crossing were in place to be able to be dropped at any notice and blcok off the bridge. - ghm101, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35A few captions would be cool. I know our attention span for reading text is declining but it would be kinda nice to know more details.
So maybe, in a first for digg I can make the comment-
"Useless without text"
;) - Dag_Yo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25This is a disgusting example of stolen images and stolen implied credit for taking said pictures.
This blogger didn't take these photos--another brave individual did.
This blogger doesn't know what they are--the original photographer wrote insightful captions.
And after all of this... a duplicate, blogspammy useless re-post of stolen pictures, here's what the blogger in question says at the very bottom in 8 point almost-faded-into-the-background text: "thanks tema.ru"
This blogger should truly be ashamed. - firepowered, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Captions would indeed be cool. But this guy has balls, to take photos without permission in North Korea!
Hurrow Hans Brix! - Battlecry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19These pictures were on digg before. Unfortunately, the forum doesn't have the pictures up anymore so you can't really tell what captions went along with what pictures.
http://digg.com/tech_news/Amazing_photo_set_of_a_trip_to_North_Korea
There IS a couple links in the previous digg comments that have russian captions, but I don't know how much good that'll do ya.
Not calling dupe, just thought you'd like some more information on it is all. - philz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Well I've got a caption to this pic:
http://bp0.blogger.com/_ySCIT3KO9Zc/RYXRy6eKsSI/AAAAAAAAAJc/4GqV8agYJUU/s1600-h/2.jpg
This is just a mile away from the border. These blocks can be thrown down to block invading forces (tanks n stuff). - Pobotrol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14It looks very clean.
- Dag_Yo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Furthermore (in regards to my original comment about how these images are simply a stolen, blogspammy re-post of an already decent front-page digg story), I decided to do some digging on NeonCobra.
Take a look at his submitted stories... 12 out of 13 of them point to his own site:
http://www.digg.com/users/NeonCobra/news/submitted
Just mouseover the stories... they either go to clipart.magicpeople.org (his site as listed in his profile) or neoncobra.blogspot.com (taking a big guess here, but I'll say that's his site as well). There's only one exception (something about 3G cellphones).
NeonCobra, people like you are slowly ruining digg. You steal people's work, pass it off as your own with laughable citation of the source and proceed to blogspam your own websites in an effort to gain popularity. You, sir, are a thief. Knock it off, or get the hell off my lawn. - st23am, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17Many Bothans Died to Bring us This Report!
- honds, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I think perhaps maybe they meant "Taken from the website of the guy who originally posted them without the original photographer's permission" not "Taken in North Korea without permission."
/end sarcasm - leobaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Not only are these pictures stolen from another post, they left out about half of them.
- baxtermaddux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"some of the captions also mentioned about how the glass was very antiquated in production method"
i recall that. it explained how the glass in north korea has bubbles in it and its distorting cause they dont know how to make it properly. - PeteGinger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Very nice pictures. However I have been on an organized, 5 day tour of North Korea, and the guides are with you at all times. They were perfectly happy for me to take very similar photos to the ones shown (although the linked ones are better pictures). I would just like to point out that it was very unlikely that these were "taken without permission" (unless the poster is referring to how he reblogged them!).
- voltronguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Bridges in South Korea have similar features. They have weak points where explosives could easily take down the whole bridge. There are also no large highways north of Seoul. Basically anything is done to slow the advance of the North right into Seoul. There are pillboxes and trench lines all through the northern mountains.
- mrcopt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7yes, the photos were made by Artemij Lebedev. Here's the original location:

http://tema.ru/travel/choson-4
http://tema.ru/travel/choson-5 - xGORDOx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7You simply can't call Bush a dictator until he posts 30ft posters of himself all over the place.
Kim Jong Il is F-ing creepy. - crexor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6some of the captions also mentioned about how the glass was very antiquated in production method, and also pointed out a guy peeing into a river.
- nachochease, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@ FreakTrap - NO ONE has the right to kill or torture its own people, regardless of whether or not it's their land. North Korea regularly allows its people to starve because they put all of their money into the military.
- CaptRR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You are a complete idiot if you actually believe that.
- GoatJuggler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I logged in just to bury this story and digg you up. This is another digg scammer.
Profile says he joined less than a month ago and already dugg up ~3000 upcoming stories; has hundreds of friends, blah blah. We all know the routine by now. Hey Neon, go stick the wheels in yer heelies and gtfo my lawn! - Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5That post gets my wtf of the day...
Yeah, you just go straight to a "re-education camp" if you criticize the government...
Most TV stations, movies, and books produced in the country are known to honor the personality cult in the country.
Owning a Bible is illegal, with defectors having reported death sentences.
Churches are built to imitate a freedom of religion for e.g. the rare tourists.
NK is at the bottom of the World Press Freedom index and all media is strictly controlled.
Radio or TV sets purchased are configured to only receive government frequencies.
Babies born with physical defects are reported to be quickly killed and buried.
and them I'm not even touching the poverty issues and distribution of wealth.
Maybe you were just being sarcastic (but it really didn't seem like it), but there you go anyway. - Kale, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeah, I was just thinking that. The guy that's head of the Optimus Keyboard development took these. He recalled that there was a computer in a house they took him to visit, but nothing was hooked up (it was all for show).
- scubajim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Lame, truely lame. Plagerizes the picts and doesn't explain them and they don't really show much. Attenion hound
- DolphinGL, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9na na na na na na na na LEADER!
- superdoug, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Or just use google earth to spy on them.
- panicofficer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3At least half of the posters here are idiots. As you can see from a few posts, these photos are stolen. One source not mentioned is the Asian culture magazine called THEME. You'll find the photos of the Mass Games in issue number 7. http://www.thememagazine.com/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Don't forget the forced abortions and chemical tests of infants in their concentration camps.

Pretty shocking. I hope China continues plans to launch a palace-coup against Kim. - ihatejunk86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Here are some links to some more photos with captions. For some reason, the photos up to page four got taken down. So the link starts at page four.
http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?t=82755&page=4
Some of the same photos in the above article are shown and have captions. - scottylist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Is it me or does the sun never seem to shine on North Korea?
- vagarach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wasn't it Art Lebedev that took these pictures? Oh and not even just 8pt font, they used a light shade of grey as well.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Dupe, Much worse than the original tho :(
digg me down. - ArtyFarty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here is a site with more photos and the captions http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?t=82755
- ductions, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Great link, page 6 has a lot of photos with interesting captions.
- central183, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You can use Google to translate the original Russian page to English. It's choppy, but you can pick out subject matter.
http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Ftema.ru%2Ftravel%2Fchoson-1%2F&langpair=ru%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools - xGORDOx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why would anyone digg down your caption?
You are completely correct. - ryodoan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Origenal post is here I think: http://www.tema.ru/travel/choson-1/
You have to translate it from Russian to read the writing though. - NickRobinson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2atleast go and read the wikipedia entry before you comment. That nation is a "private property"of a plain ***** retard and his son.
- ogstar69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2PBS: FRONTLINE/World (TV Show) did an insightful documentary on North Korea.
http://www.pbs.org/frontlineworld/stories/northkorea/thestory.html
I couldn't find it on youtube or google video. That would rock if someone posted it up there. - kingfelix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i dugg this story down, despite the quality of the pictures, because this guy is a thief and a blogspammer.
if anyone is really interested in north korea, the best site for info (totally unrelated to me) about current nk-related developments is dprkstudies.org. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just wait til you see the Hillary posters for '08...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2100% correct ... knew i saw these on fazed originally ...

http://www.tema.ru/travel/choson-1/ - EochaidRiata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Those photos were stolen from here: http://tema.ru/travel/choson-1/
Another reason to watermark everything you put on the web. - arizonagroove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The blog owner is screening comments on the post. No wonder, wouldn't want people pointing out that they stole the photos.
- rasty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Really no-one linked to Wandering Camera's amazing photo report from DPRK yet?
http://www.enlight.ru/camera/dprk/phen_mang_e.html
Many pages with description - WELL worth it! - crashflow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2too clean, also not many people,
just plain creepy. - scrumpy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1digg down, I'm drunk.
- xGORDOx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hahahaha!!!!
No doubt. - gullevek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ripp Off. The originals were large and had very interesting captions. Lame!
- rasty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, no, actually it's different!
- central183, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Funny tid-bids from the translated Russian:
"Everywhere stopping foreigners (such as tea on the way to another city) are Berezki-torgsin with the usual goods : sprait Chinese, Japanese cold coffee in banks, beer, snikersa, cigarettes, etc. In one of these shops in the Sea of Japan, even discovered two bundles chips Lay's, the shelf-life of which ended in 2001."
"For North Koreans white people as black in the pink, immediately drew the attention. Local residents by the end did not believe that a living met a foreigner. The people always like that :"
"Note that the ideological guide leaves much to be desired. The idea is to be any dodgy, but the answer to every issue. However, the replies to the tour only to the questions of a handbook for internal use. Non issues are either replaced conversation topics, or simply silence."
"And here's the scene of the Juche idea (to the rise fire-5 euros). The meaning of those ideas that "man is the master of everything, he decides everyone." Further, it follows that the need to be independent, and if we have an independent country people, we were no longer needed. Thus the principle of "self-force" becomes an excuse for absolute secrecy country from the outside world. In 11 hours the electricity out, and the monument has been on the kromeshnoi darkness." -
