- BuckyTuesday, on 10/12/2007, -8/+31Thank you dshpls for ***** up the comments I was reading.
- SkinTheSun, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24"Don't give a sh*t about the temperature in Guatemala
Don't really see what all the fuss is about
Ain't gonna worry bout no future generations and a
I'm sure somebody's gonna figure it out"
Whoever wrote this article kinda misinterpreted that. And other things. Trent isn't claiming HE doesn't give a *****; he's portraying the average American citizen and his lethargy. He also got the whole bit about the flag wrong; it's not the NWO, it's the Resistance. ***** big difference.
More lyrics from the song:
"I'm sick of hearing about the have and have not's
Have some personal accountability
The biggest problem with the way that we are doing things is
The more we let you have the less that I'll be keeping for me"
Don't tell me you can read that and actually believe for a second Trent isn't portraying a concept; the songs aren't about himself! - Fistfuc, on 10/12/2007, -10/+30 2022 Trent for President .
- str3ama, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21The Rise of the Military Industry Complex as it's called, whereby power is controlled through military prowess and weapon production rather then GDP/GNP. It's a really old concept that's sometimes labelled as NWO (new world order). The new album is heavily influenced by H. G. Wells
- KarbonKopy, on 10/12/2007, -21/+39I'm fully against DRM, all it does is truly punish those who follow the rule.

Too late. - jaycliche, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20Ok fear monger.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -26/+38God dammit. I'm just waiting till this ***** dies down. It's already getting old.
- op12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11The article only mentioned a couple of websites, but there's actually dozens of interlinking sites and a few bonus tracks are hidden along with the background of the Year Zero story. Looking at just one or two of the sites really shows what a huge scope Reznor has for the story (and why he wants the second part in movie form):

- ninephoenixes, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13On one hand, Nine Inch Nails.
On the other, Alex Jones.
Do I digg it up, or bury it? So...conflicted.... - Alimack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11He mentioned the Great Global Warming Swindle, which I saw when it aired here in the UK.
It was a really convincing programme, which outlined pretty much conclusively (with line graphs and everything) that global warming was not caused by carbon emissions, instead being due to solar activity and the way the sea's temperature changes.
Unfortunately, much of the programme was a lie. Graphs were doctored to give a certain impression, scientists were creatively edited (one's taking legal action, 'cos his view was pretty much reversed) and some facts and figures were just wrong. It was in the paper's, the director admitted it and so on. Kind of annoying. - Beatmiser, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11When I was just out of high school I became a bookstore assistant manager at the local mall (this was around 1994), there were wide reports in the book industry of a flag-list. The kind of thing you saw in 'Conspiracy Theory' where Mel Gibson's character bought 'The Catcher in the Rye'. The only book I know with any certainty that was on this list was a book called 'Behold a Pale Horse' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milton_William_Cooper#Behold_a_Pale_Horse.
Whether it was a trumped up story amongst bookdealers and sellers I don't know, but I can't help but wonder if something like this still goes on, and if buying the new NIN album would land you on some kind of flag list. Tinfoil hattish- yes, but given the bit I know, entirely plausible. While I haven't enjoyed a NIN album since the Downward Spiral, I still say kudos to Trent for pushing his message. - Valleye, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9That is what cash is for. Anonymity .
- jebels, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I'm pretty sure Capital G is about Bush's ignorance to certain important subjects. He's not marginalizing global warming, he's expressing Bush's lack of response to it.
>>Here Reznor marginalizes global warming, stating that if and when a real problem develops, we'll take care of it. This is very contrary to articles like those in the Washington Post forecasting , “…global temperatures will probably rise 4 degrees Celsius over the next century. - Xepo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Woooow, you all are totally right. I saw this article's interpretation of that line, thought "wtf?", and came here.
JonesReport is skewing Reznor's lyrics into something completely different that supports JonesReport's own views. Here's the wikipedia article that skinthesun referenced: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Jones_%28radio%29
Notice that the guy's an alternative 9/11 believer, and believes that Global Warming is a hoax. See the 'Views' section, second paragraph. - habitue, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9an md5 hash destroys information.. that is COMPLETELY useless...
not that the base64 wasn't useless already - TiMMY8765, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7um, isn't the gep gun used against armor, the correct line is
"Never know when you might need to make a silent kill, give me the crossbow" - apetrie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Is it me or does the writer miss the point about global warming? Whatever your stance on it is, it seems more likely that these lyrics:
Don't give a sh*t about the temperature in Guatemala
Don't really see what all the fuss is about
Ain't gonna worry bout no future generations and a
I'm sure somebody's gonna figure it out
..are meant to mock and show the indifference of those ignoring the issues of Climate Change. From the article: "How dare Reznor defy the mainstream media? It’s not like the global warming scare is torn to shreds in films like the Great Global Warming Swindle or anything. No, people should believe the nightly news. They are not fear mongers. They have “top” scientists." I don't see the connection. It seems like the writer supports the idea that Global Warming is just fear mongering, while the lyrics imply that its ignorant to not care about the effects on the rest of the world and to pass the problem down to future generations.
Of course I could be misinterpreting and I'm definitely not trying to actually start a debate on the issue, the writers assessment just didn't ring true to me as what the message of those lyrics are. - JohnP, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7What the *****.... Trent isnt airing his opinion on global warming. The person writing this article doesnt seem to understand the albums concept at all. He seems to think the lyrics are being spoken by a current day trent reznor.
( I stopped reading after that.)
Thank god other people realised this too! I just came back from that site quick sharp to make sure people didnt think the article was true. I have no idea why it has so many Diggs, dont people read these days? :( - redled, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7OK article, but I took this line in Capitol G differently than him:
"Don't give a sh*t about the temperature in Guatemala
Don't really see what all the fuss is about
Ain't gonna worry bout no future generations and a
I'm sure somebody's gonna figure it out"
He says:
"Here Reznor marginalizes global warming, stating that if and when a real problem develops, we'll take care of it."
I thought the line was written from the point view of G. Bush, and Trent's point was that this is a stupid attitude to have towards global warming. There are other hints in the alternate reality game of severe global warming, like baseball season in Winter. - davidgoodchild, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Damn right. I'm glad someone actually bothered to point out that Reznor is taking the piss out of the ant-global warming brigade, not signing up to it.
- computergod, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7The reason rededit can do it is that they are owned by Wired who already put the number in print. Digg does not have the same legal backing.
They are both owned by this group:

They can afford to fight this, digg can't. - WarpFox, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Voila! In view, a humble vaudvillian veteran cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing te violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengence, a vendetta held as a votive not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shal one day vindicate the vigiland and the virtuous. Verilly, this vichyssose of verbiage veers most verbose. So let me add that it's my very good honor to meet you may call me V.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10I'm willing to be $10,000 that you don't leave.
02 E9 18 02 9D F4 E3 5A D8 61 56 C8 6A B6 88 CC - nincrumpet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I agree 100%. I came here to post that I think his interpretation of Capital G may be off. It seems like that verse is about George W., although the voice changes throughout the song. For at least part of the song, he's talking about the views of someone with power, not his own.
- livefire, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Music, design, art... these are the places that will incite change. Now we have a figurehead?
- h00ligan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I love NIN and i was at the London England show - at the listening party, When the mural was uncovered and we got the Survivalism video... but what makes this 'article' any better than reading the exact same stuff that was published by rolling stone and the like a month ago? I'm all for promoting the band, but the wiki covers most of this and the major mags have too, so i fail to see how this digg submission is anything outside of blogspam... although i won't bury it due to the promotion of one of the great talents of our generation / one of the few musicians with actual integrity.
Also, this is more music news than political, given the fictional roots and author of the material - it's not fact.. it's art. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6buried because of alex jones being a bandwagon jumping internet whore who twists things to make them look like they support his view point, for calling NIN irrelevant and because when i went on the website it consisted of whats already written in the link and a blank page
- Moskie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I think the album is great, but yes, this guy has got it all wrong.
I bet he thinks the chorus of Survivalism ("I got my violence in Hi-Def ultra-realism / All a part of this great nation!") isn't facetious, either. - MScoutsDCI, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I really liked the article, but it seems like the guy who wrote it has misunderstood something. The flag symbol does not represent the NWO, it represents the resistance to the NWO. That is a pretty big difference.
- akirksey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Lets not mince words. Our constitutional freedoms are gone. It's only a matter of time before infrastructure is put in place to make sure they stay gone.
- SinzenStudios, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6The funny thing is I go to read this and the site is deemed "malicious" at work. Damn that corporate censorship. Bloody I.T.
Guess I'll check it out at home tonight, when it's old news. :'( - BabyWookie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"What the *****.... Trent isnt airing his opinion on global warming. It's right up there with The Downward Spiral and The Fragile.
Hint: music is subjective. - JohnP, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"How dare Reznor defy the mainstream media? ( I stopped reading after that.) - evilesttoast, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Yeah, Iran is going to fly their bombers across the Atlantic and bomb us, right.
- dudefather, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4new world order? future dystopia? music is oppressed by 'the man'? a band is standing against the evil government? where have I seen this before.....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolution_X - celerityfm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'm a huge fan of NIN and Year Zero, but I gotta say that this website, atleast from my interpretation of the album and ARG, has barked up a few wrong trees. For example - I don't think NIN is amongst the 9/11 truther set-- I think that alot of the anger/predictions of future destruction come from the governments reaction TO 9/11 not BECAUSE of 9/11.
Thats just me tho.
I hope someone comes along and writes a nice big in-depth article like that one, but does so from a neutral point of view.. know what I mean? - SkinTheSun, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7
"Jones believes man-made global warming is a hoax perpetrated by globalists as an excuse to impose new taxation to help fund a world government"
From Wikipedia..
What a douche. Now I see how/why he twisted Trent's lyrics into agreeing with his warped view. If you read the article you'll know what I mean. - catalysis, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I would wait a bit before having a nervous breakdown over a NIN album.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4You obviously don't get it...
Why was the ten commandments in courtrooms in the first place? Is adultery illegal? Coveting your neighbor's wife?
Not sure what "crosses removed from hills" means. Probably more religious icons on public grounds, where we should be free of such BS.
Do what you want in your own hope as far as religion goes. Just leave it there...Isn't religion a personal thing anyway? Isn't there something in the bible about "false idols," like huge crosses or plaques on walls? -
