- Enderplayer1, on 02/23/2008, -39/+135McCain is a lier and should be exposed as such. Or we risk having another Bush in the Whitehouse.
- arcangelgabriel, on 02/23/2008, -5/+67"You liberal goobs" ?
I support Obama. So let me define my liberalness for you. US Marine, two tours Vietnam, wounded, decorated. Senior Instructor, US Marine Corps., 18 Years law enforcement, Road patrol, Sergeant/supervisor, now detective.
Junior, I've seen boobs like you come and go. I've stood up for what I believe and remained loyal to my core and my corps, and that despite the ***** that I waded through in this life. I've been there and done that to say the least. So call me liberal if I support a man who strikes me as someone with a degree of integrity and a sense of hope that I haven't seen in this countries politics for years. This country is becoming a nation of morons who cannot add a simple equation, buy all of their crap from Wal-mart [read made in china] and get their views from the Fox News tit.
Please do us all a favor and take your Rush Limbaugh, Anne Coulter and Dan Savage dog and pony show elsewhere.
Yea, I guess I'm a liberal alright. Another loud mouth liberal that can poke a hole in the ten ring at 1000 meters. - Terr01, on 02/23/2008, -4/+35I agree about "web of lies", but the submitter's language in the title.
The linked story, however, DOES quote Newsweek, and DOES add value and analysis, bringing in things from other sources as well. - insomniac8400, on 02/23/2008, -14/+44Haha, Romney is probably crying like a little girl right now. I wonder what republicans will do if McCain gets enough delegates but has lost all credibility.(Not that republicans care about credibility, but they do want to keep the office to protect Bush)
- smacksaw, on 02/23/2008, -6/+36You sure showed him with that awesome capitalisation and punctuation there!
- jamesalfaro, on 02/23/2008, -7/+34original article: http://www.newsweek.com/id/114505
- galore, on 02/23/2008, -0/+25"guy named hussein"
I can't believe people are dumb enough to publicly hold this against Obama. A name! Unbelievable. Don't you feel like a total moron using a name against a candidate?! - magoghm, on 02/23/2008, -15/+39McCain seems to attract trouble everywhere he goes: http://www.digg.com/2008_us_elections/Might_The_St ...
- lazlonger, on 02/23/2008, -4/+26"But what is not old is McCain's deliberately dishonest claims in response to that story. Denying that he ever spoke with Paxson's CEO when he testified under oath that he did -- and then misleadingly claiming that he was using the royal "I" and meant only that his staff spoke with Paxson -- is clear and deliberate deceit."
- kamizu, on 02/23/2008, -2/+24No, silly. Wait until he's elected, bombs Iran, re-elected, then when it's his last year in office, then maybe... maybe we'll impeach him.
- Sogui, on 02/23/2008, -10/+31It must be fun taking a story that's already been closed and reached a conclusion, and then going back and nitpicking irrelevant details!
The Paxton case had it's FCC letters from McCain released years ago to dispell any notion of legislative favors, McCain simply urged the decision along since the case had been sitting for over 800 days (avg of 400). He didn't ask them to make the decision one way or another, he simply said "Could you hurry up with this decision?". After all it is a congressman's job to help cut through bureaucracy.
Now we're going back and saying, ok sure nothing BAD happened... but let's write a story about whether or not his aide picked up the phone or McCain picked it up himself, and whether he simply had poor recollection on the matter. Either way it's irrelevant, this happens all the time with McCain when they ask him little details about his past... he even had to make a correction about whether or not he spoke to a Times' reporter 5 minutes after he said he hadn't.
Why is this a "web exclusive" for Newsweek? Because it's not fit for print, it's Newsweek trying to catch the wave of momentum behind the Iseman story. - pintomp3, on 02/23/2008, -0/+15bravo. and thank you for your service.
- manicallday, on 02/23/2008, -2/+14New rule. You can't mock an inadvertent typo by using "lols" and "wtfs."
- RichStradler, on 02/23/2008, -7/+18Impeach him!... oh wait
- xlneoMAXlx, on 02/23/2008, -4/+14liar*
- DangerCollie, on 02/23/2008, -4/+14Forget the lobbyist. She's not bad looking and he's old. If they rocked a client's private jet...it happens. Let he who's never let his dick lead him into a mistake cast the first stone.
The bigger issue here is the way McCain and his staff flew into full denial mode instead of just admitting a mistake. The one consistent characteristic of the Republicans neocon right is they can never admit a mistake. They'll dig themselves into an incredible hole of denial, even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. If sheer denial doesn't work, they'll try to rewrite history. I've never seen such a desperate desire to be "right" about everything all the time. I see the same thing in the corporate world. Ken Lay looked into the camera and flat out denied he did anything wrong, and that was after he was convicted of fraud. Never seen anything like it. - MrCobaltBlue, on 02/23/2008, -1/+10That's Dumas.
- absurdist, on 02/23/2008, -0/+9One slight correction, though I agree with you 100% and salute your service to our country.
Dan Savage is a gay sexual advice columnist; i.e. "Savage Love." Famous for coining the term "santorum."
Michael Savage Weiner is the frothing at the mouth, rabidly right-wing talk show hate monger I believe you meant to refer to. - Neochrome, on 02/23/2008, -2/+11It's simple, he either lied about it or he is senile. Choose which one is more likely.
- DKSprocket, on 02/23/2008, -8/+17At first this might seem petty, but considering the race may very well have McCain against Obama, both having strong themes of anti-lobbyism, "straight talk" and cleaning up Washington it's gets pretty important to question how they back it up.
To me it seems like the original incident (McCain being told by a special interest that his colleague is dragging his feet and asked to help get it back in motion) seems like a minor one. If he had admitted straight out that he made a mistake this would be such a non-story. Especially since he already admitted this once.
It's all the cover ups and lies that is the real story here. - TheAkolyte, on 02/23/2008, -0/+9Nothing inspires me more then being called a short sighted sheep, and then being told to immediately join a cause without any thought or motive other then the pretense of "thinking outside the box."
- Number23, on 02/23/2008, -12/+20"McCain personally contacted the FCC to demand that it expedite its ruling on a matter of vital important to Paxson"
“Expdite”, please; decision normally take 400 days, this one had passed 800 days. He sent a letter asking merely that a decision be taken. Regular citizens write their representatives every day asking for some sort of intervention or another with a government agency.
The rest of is just an over broad denial, the result of a campaign getting to defenses in the wake of completely unsourced allegation of infidelity.
Try harder digg-tards - arcangelgabriel, on 02/23/2008, -0/+7You're welcome sir.
- pintomp3, on 02/23/2008, -1/+8voter suppression, voter intimidation, voter id laws, diebold. they have no shortage of scams in their arsenal.
- ChimpFlix, on 02/23/2008, -9/+15Meet my close personal friend... Mr. Dumbass.
- lazlonger, on 02/23/2008, -4/+10wow. that response is even more idiotic than the first. nice achievement.
I mean, common. It's like you think can win....next to what him they say.
(PS I love Ron Paul, but quit taking acid years ago....) - smacksaw, on 02/23/2008, -1/+7I forgot the part about 9/11 when all of the planes were hijacked from Iraq under Saddam Hussein's orders.
But hey...Saudi Arabia is close to Iraq. We almost invaded the right country. Better luck next time, right dumbASS? - sigg14, on 02/23/2008, -2/+8so Paul is racist because he failed to proofread a publication but mcain is less racist for calling all asians gooks and refuses to apologize for it? that sounds pretty logical
- zeusthemoose, on 02/23/2008, -3/+9Did you even read the article? There are links to McCain's testimony in the matter. Clearly you believe that your candidate is above the truth.
- Axias, on 02/23/2008, -3/+9They just don't get it smacksaw. They want a politician, not a leader.
/herd mentality leading us off a cliff, again - sigg14, on 02/23/2008, -3/+9I dug you, but you will be buried for sure for 2 reasons. You said something positive about ron paul, and you said something that was not nice (but completely true) about obama.
- smacksaw, on 02/23/2008, -2/+8Nice post, great points, but I can't help but be reminded of a rope.
If you give a man enough rope, he'll hang himself with it. I don't think that's what I want from my president.
For a man who makes "straight talk" a cornerstone of his identity, it seems to me that this could have all been solved several exchanges ago in the process if he just took responsibility for it and said "Hey, I ***** up. It was a misunderstanding. Did I mention how awesome The Surge is?" and move on from there.
He demonstrates consistently bad judgement. You don't lie to cover up a lie. It's too much of a hassle to keep track of lies. Some liars stop because they find it unethical, others stop because it's too much effort. Regardless, by the time you're 16 if you haven't joined either of those camps, you never will. Accountability and the foresight to head a conflict off at the pass. That's what I want. That isn't McCain. He dragged out that "improper affair" too long as well. 100 years in Iraq. Sensing a pattern here? - an0nymous, on 02/23/2008, -5/+11Way to address the substance of his comments.
- arcangelgabriel, on 02/23/2008, -0/+5A thousand apologies to Dan Savage., Not sure how I mixed those two up, but there ya go. Thanks for setting me straight.
- telek0n, on 02/23/2008, -12/+17The Paul cult really does fit in with the GOP camp, you people are beyond delusional. Seriously, you believe a word of that?
- mediaspree, on 02/23/2008, -0/+5Tequilla!
- BingoPower, on 02/23/2008, -10/+15a "web of lies"?
Hardly. Dumb sensationalist title. - inactive, on 02/23/2008, -5/+10Still, none of this stuff is nearly as bad as having a bunch of racist ***** published in a magazine with your name on it.
- zeusthemoose, on 02/23/2008, -3/+8Maybe because they do not exist?
- stateofdreams, on 02/23/2008, -2/+6Trackpad issues... digg me down please... accidentally hit the reply button. :)
- inactive, on 02/23/2008, -1/+5Well said, sir!
- inactive, on 02/23/2008, -0/+4Remember that Bill Clinton wasn't impeached for getting a blow job. He was impeached for lying about getting a blow job. Lying during a campaign doesn't rise to the level of lying to a congressional committee, but some of McCain's inconsistent version was before Congress, so if we assume he is truthful now, he was lying then. Personally, I think he truly doesn't remember because he is showing early signs of Alzheimer's and needs to retire, not lead the nation. He was a heck of a good politician, but now he is sadly past the point of being effective in any office.
- inactive, on 02/23/2008, -0/+4This isn't our election system, this is our two major political parties' candidate selection processes.
- brokenspatula, on 02/23/2008, -23/+27"the NYT's story on McCain yesterday was extremely poor journalism -- filled with unsubstantiated irrelevancies"
- Axias, on 02/23/2008, -4/+8He lied or forgot? And that's okay?
Ahh, it's okay to lie about something if it's trivial?
You repugnacans are a ***** up lot. - inactive, on 02/23/2008, -0/+4As I recall, Bill Clinton was impeached for that lie. I would like the Republicans held to the same standards.
- wooFmeoWoinK, on 02/23/2008, -5/+9because there are none?
- x0epyon0x, on 02/23/2008, -0/+4Unless, of course, Hillary gets the Democratic nomination. She's polarized the party so much that I doubt a majority of them would stand behind her. I for one won't.
- peterbe, on 02/23/2008, -3/+6Do republicans read NYT?
- shanehonda, on 05/19/2009, -0/+3Fail. Isn't intelligent enough to warrant an intelligent response.
