- AgeofMastery, on 03/30/2009, -5/+247Part? Hell, repeal it all and start over.
- inactive, on 03/30/2009, -3/+192Another document that urges the reversal of the Patriot Act: The United States Constitution.
- Anomaly100, on 03/30/2009, -2/+131"The ACLU report charges that “More than seven years after its implementation, there is little evidence to demonstrate that the Patriot Act has made America more secure from terrorists. But there are many unfortunate examples that the government abused these authorities in ways that both violated the rights of innocent people and squandered precious security resources.”
Too much power is given during times of uncertainty and its abuse is widespread with little good coming from it. - jleopold, on 03/30/2009, -2/+79Agreed. It will be interesting to see if Congress actually renews the Patriot Act in its current form.
- Echota, on 03/30/2009, -3/+74Yes,I agree.Repeal it and start over!
- sheeplescareme, on 03/31/2009, -2/+60repeal it all...
the end. - macinit1138, on 03/31/2009, -1/+44Reversing the entire Patriot Act is the true litmus test of this so called 'change' President. I suspect he won't deliver on this issue because he's just another front man for the greed machine. It's like what Carlin said, "It's called the American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it."
- cwg1960, on 03/31/2009, -2/+45Two things the government never gives up once it gets it ;
1) Money
2) Power - mah2cent, on 03/31/2009, -0/+41This is the worst legislation that has ever been passed in the US in terms of limiting personal freedom and should be repealed.
- dubcheese19, on 03/31/2009, -0/+40I can't even remember the last time I saw the Patriot Act in the mainstream news. Much Dugg.
- sheeplescareme, on 03/31/2009, -1/+39they don't like to give up power once they have it...and most of them voted for it and its renewal...
- geauxtig3rs, on 03/31/2009, -0/+33As a moderate republican (though it seems like an oxymoron sometimes) I wholeheartedly agree that the Patriot Act and FISA amendments should be repealed. Anyone who considers themselves a true conservative (JESUS CHRIST WHY HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN LITTLE GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION) should also get behind repealing the Patriot Act.
There isn't one ***** thing that's patriotic about it. - novenator, on 03/31/2009, -0/+29Domestic espionage should never be tolerated in America. Granted it's naive to think it hasn't always been around, but the so-called Patriot Act really took it to the next level. Repeal it!
- inactive, on 03/31/2009, -7/+36Start over where we did in 1789!
- DarkShroud, on 03/31/2009, -3/+31Never going to happen. The Fed enjoy their power.
Remember Obama and the Dems voted for the Telecom immunity. - censormagnet, on 03/31/2009, -1/+27how can you disagree with the PATRIOT act. oh right ;) cause the entire thing is an attack on our liberty.
- spyd3rweb, on 03/31/2009, -2/+27They'll probably change it to make it permanent.
- feelmypimphand, on 03/31/2009, -2/+24"The man who trades freedom for security does not deserve nor will he ever receive either."
Benjamin Franklin - inactive, on 03/31/2009, -3/+25There was quite a lot of criticism of the Patriot Act by the Left.
Let's see if they are going to put their money where their mouth was and reform it... or if it was simply more election year bitching about things that they don't really give a crap about. - Branchex, on 03/31/2009, -4/+25Having this act repealed is one of the main reasons I voted for Obama. If he doesn't do it there is no way I'm going to vote for him again.
- Stingwolf, on 03/31/2009, -2/+21I really wish more people would remember this (or learn it in the first place). The warrantless wiretapping was one of the biggest complaints from the left about Bush, yet their champion is in on the cover-up. Violating the Constitution is not OK under anyone. Even if they are a member of "your" party, people.
- novenator, on 03/30/2009, -2/+19well said MadKenny. The system should have been rigid enough in it's defense of the constitution in the first place that there should have been quick and decisive challenges to the so-called Patriot Act. If there's one thing the right wing learned well, it's that Americans will give up their freedom when they are scared enough. The courts need to intervene to stop this if it ever happens again.
- dieboldcracy, on 03/31/2009, -3/+20what they need to do is, create a bill that repeals the patriot act, and then RAM it through congress on the Friday before a holiday, without anyone being able to read it. Then it'd be a sure shot to pass both houses.
- kspanks04, on 03/31/2009, -1/+18I heard about this congressman from...ummm I wanna say Texas.
- inactive, on 03/31/2009, -15/+32Obama's gonna reverse it during his second term, I swear guys, just vote for him one more term all his promises will come true!
- Anomaly100, on 03/30/2009, -11/+27Weird thing about The Constitution, when it's our rights, it's ignored. but it you talk about gun control, etc, the right start screaming about their Constitutional rights. It doesn't seem to go both ways and they think listening in and illegally collecting info is just dandy.
Wow, did I just say, "dandy"? hehe! - TSK05, on 03/31/2009, -4/+18Uh, actually the true conservatives (ie, right) don't like the patriot act because it's bigger government. But your argument can also be made of the left - when it's "your rights" (just quoting you), ACLU is all over it but when it's gun control, ACLU and similar groups are silent.
- inactive, on 03/31/2009, -5/+19Not according to the former constitutional law Professor Barack Obama, who voted to renew it as well as FISA.
What's truly scary to me is that anybody with even a vague understanding of the constitution realizes that certain provision in the Patriot Act are highly unconstitutional, yet an individual who taught it at a prestigious university says otherwise.
The lesser of two evils is still evil... - broncfan23, on 03/31/2009, -2/+15Don't you think Obama finds the Patriot Act useful?
- mparker21311, on 03/31/2009, -0/+13Which is part of the reason why I won't waste a single cent/second of my time on either political party again.
- exspasticcomics, on 03/31/2009, -2/+15repeal it all... don't start it over.
- inactive, on 03/31/2009, -2/+14http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQk74Y5tnR0
Those Buttheads
The Patriot act was thrust upon a people to remove democracy and devide the people.
You are either with us or against us...
Yeah right! F off! - greendalek, on 03/31/2009, -0/+12He wasn't a Senator in October of '01, when it was first rushed through both houses and passed, so his claim of "not being a supporter" of it is technically true. However he WAS a Senator in '05 and cheerfully voted to extend it, without any reservations.
- sheeplescareme, on 03/31/2009, -4/+16you're getting buried, but some of us know that lincoln didn't give two hoots about slaves, destroyed the constitution, and hated freedom, so i gave you a bump.
- gobbleplex, on 03/31/2009, -1/+12Yeah, a lot of criticism from the electorate. From the Democrats in Congress, not so much.
- MikeCrazy, on 03/31/2009, -1/+12That means it's working! Don't talking about long enough people might forget about it.
- Jektal, on 03/31/2009, -2/+13*prophet
- Stingwolf, on 03/31/2009, -1/+12Unfortunately, I would be wholly unsurprised.
- jbmcb, on 03/31/2009, -1/+12Now that congress and the president are all one big happy party again, there is no way in hell they are going to repeal it.
- badenglishihave, on 03/31/2009, -1/+11Every bill is named such that if you vote against it you appear anti-American.
- kspanks04, on 03/31/2009, -1/+11Sorry but bailouts aren't paid for by the government. And think about who's getting bailed out here.
- Kelto1, on 03/31/2009, -1/+11So if we don't like the fact people can look into our business without our knowledge, we're hiding something?
- Stingwolf, on 03/31/2009, -1/+10Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but there's also this now:
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.R.146 ...
Haven't had time to read it. You may if you do. It looks like they want to extend it +10 years. - shauncorleone, on 03/31/2009, -2/+11Dugg for Carlin. "Less of a comedian, more of a profit".
- algaeturd, on 03/31/2009, -0/+9Congress to the American people: "We don't work for you...we'll do whatever we want."
Remember...98% of Americans were against Bush's first 'bailout' and it didn't stop congress from passing the bill with flying colors.
They don't give a ***** what you think as an American. That's 100% true. They're not afraid of being voted out, they're not afraid of being revealed for the traitors they are, they simply don't care what you think.
That standard has been set. It's been proved. It's time to clean house and remind these people that they work for US. Not the special interests and the bankers. - roctimo, on 03/31/2009, -1/+10Badenglish is 100% right. You just know that it came up while they were drafting it..."And we should call it the PATRIOT act so that you look like a pinko commie if you vote against it!"
We all need to band together instead of fighting about abortion and gun control. These are the things they keep us busy with while they ram retarded legislation down our throats.
If Obama doesn't make steps to repeal this, I will lose all faith in him as a leader. - inactive, on 03/31/2009, -1/+10I come at you semi-peaceful on this one. we def rolled over for the Patriot Act, but it was the bulk of the country that did so. In fact, it really only became a big deal a couple of years ago and Liberals definitely were the ones to raise concern. But, that's the whole point of checks and balances and why we require at least 2 significantly different parties in order to protect any form of democracy.
- kgerm, on 03/31/2009, -0/+9did it really?... my Troll meter is starting to beep... BEEP BEEP!
- enrq, on 03/31/2009, -0/+8that'd be even more amazing had you not been drinking soda at the moment
- GovernmentSp00k, on 03/31/2009, -0/+8***** "reversing parts." Deep six this entire unconstitutional FARCE and you'll be getting somewhere. Get rid of the whole thing. In a free country with a Constitution, a fascist "patriot act" abomination is 100% unnecessary.
The "patriot act" is the most un-patriotic thing about America. It is a mockery of patriotism. It is against everything America stands for and against everything that America is supposed to be.
America is great because of the Constitution. Without her Constitution, America is just another 3rd rate police state.
The unconstitutional "patriot act", the "homeland" (in)Ssecurity" gestapo, "military tribunals act", and other pro-fascism type legislations are all completely and entirely designed to destroy your civil liberties, curtail your rights and limit your ability to fight back against what is coming. Currently, in the United States, unannounced to most TV addled, judge-mental brainwashed Americans, your home can be searched without a warrant, without you being home, you can in turn be arrested with no charges revealed to you, detained indefinitely with no access to a lawyer, and legally tortured, all under the suspicion that you might be a "terrorist."..
Why hasn't Mr Change, inc. repealed the unconstitutional "patriot act"? Along with abolishing garbage anti-American legislation like the "john warner defense act" FISA spying on Americans without probable cause, the "military commissions act" (which Bush criminals and mis-leaders used to commit torture crimes) and "department of "homeland" security" gestapo. Get rid of the ***** already. We don't need it in this country. It's a waste of our money.
If all the countless, dizzying array of endless alphabet soup government agencies actually DID THEIR ***** JOBS in Americas and American citizens favor and best interests instead of selling us all out and selling our country out to the highest bidder, we wouldn't need all that draconian, fascist GARBAGE that is at complete odds with what America is supposed to be. -
