- csydennison, on 08/25/2008, -20/+98Hahaha! I love it!
- BishkekBuddy, on 08/25/2008, -15/+80I'm old enough to remember the original song and whoever thought of it to use as the basis for Obama's ad is just brilliant! BRILLIANT! You could go on and on with the original:
"Don't know much about geography" - Afganistan shares a border with Pakistan??
"Don't know much trigonometry" - let's see, how many homes do I own? Hmmm... hope the questions get easier! - Echota, on 01/05/2009, -25/+83I like it!
Obama/Biden 08! - tegrim, on 08/25/2008, -14/+70It hits exactly the right tone - accurate (with quote, data, and pictures) and light - not mean. Need lots more like this!
- arrowpg, on 08/25/2008, -15/+65Now just TRY to get that tune out of your head!!
- mnemy, on 08/25/2008, -8/+59I was bracing myself for a nasty smear ad, but I almost lol'd at this light humored attack. Glad to see Obama is still trying to avoid the smear trenches.
- MatthewK, on 08/25/2008, -8/+45Here's some more stuff you might want to see if you haven't already:
"Average percentage change in after-tax income in 2009" (McCain vs Obama): http://img230.imageshack.us/my.php?image=121925702 ...
"John McCain: I graduated fifth from the bottom of my class": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srbX26vp57c
"Barack Obama in Chester, VA": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlZ-_Sstt5I - Kinneas12, on 08/25/2008, -2/+35I don't think the number of houses owned is a trig question, chief.
- ValarieEllis, on 08/25/2008, -11/+42Whoever wrote this commercial is a creative genius! It's terrific!!
- bieber, on 08/25/2008, -0/+27Please. The two haven't even left their corners yet...
- bushisafag, on 08/25/2008, -11/+36Aside from being a douchebag, McCain a true philistine, like Bush. (I realize the Republican readers will need to look up this word.) Never read a book in his life and has zero intellectual curiosity with regards to anything economic, geographic, or philosophic.
Check out the Youtube video of Ron Paul skewering him on the economy during the primaries. (Or, if you are McCain, look it up on "The Google".)
The debates will be a riot. Barack is going to humiliate him. - blackinthmiddle, on 08/25/2008, -3/+28While I agree with you, just from an effectiveness standpoint (where the average voter will get bogged down by too many facts) it probably makes more sense to point out one flaw per ad.
Obama's team is pretty smart to go after this quote that McCain made. It wasn't a slip up. It was his actual stance on the economy. If he goes after his geography blunder, or mentioning Putin as the president of Germany, etc., then McCain will simply find the (few) times Obama slipped up. Then, Obama will be forced to say things like, "Well for every time I slipped up, he slipped up 10 times." When you roll in the mud with a pig, you're going to also get dirty. - paradoxal, on 08/25/2008, -15/+36Well done!
- FreddieD, on 08/25/2008, -3/+24No chance. The unfortunate reality is that negative campaigning works, as proven time and time again. When a politician doesn't fight fire with fire then they lose.
- themightylex, on 08/25/2008, -10/+29Now this is a great way to drive home a real point of McCain being out of sync with the middle-class, while showing why Democrats are better at humor. I'm gonna play that a few more times.
- jdenzer, on 08/25/2008, -5/+20Yeah, just sit back and let the McCain campaign to only run negative ads w/ lies.
The right would love that. What do think he is going to do sit back and take it? - boxlight, on 08/25/2008, -27/+40I hate to tell you Obama fans this, but that ad is pretty weak.
McCain's new ads -- the one with Joe Biden saying Obama doesn't have the experience, and the one courting Clinton supporters to vote Republican -- are much stronger. - inactive, on 08/25/2008, -4/+14MakiMaki has to get paid somehow.
- HiCaP, on 08/25/2008, -0/+10That's because it's from MakiMaki, ya know, top diggers make up their own rules.
Just bury, he did submit hours after others - macjaeh, on 08/25/2008, -3/+13I agree, i was hoping for something with a bit more bite.
- Darksilverstrea, on 08/25/2008, -1/+11McCain sure isn't running one. Americans say that want a clean campaign, but most only respond to negativity. Sad but true.
- AndrewDB, on 08/25/2008, -3/+12Give him a break, he's just discovering the wonderment of ctrl-c, ctrl-v.
- solboldi, on 08/25/2008, -4/+12So if McCain's VP pick actually stated during the primary he was against McCain being President, that wouldn't be a great attack content for a Democratic TV ad?
What are you smoking? Even Biden didn't consider Obama to be ready for the White House. Changed his tune though to get on the ticket. Pure pandering...pure flip-flopping. - inactive, on 08/25/2008, -1/+9Ron Paul could skewer most politicians on a great many things.
This has less to do with McCain and more to do with the overall ignorance (of which Obama is also a part of). - solboldi, on 08/25/2008, -4/+12Yeah, he got Biden to be his attack dog because he is too much of a lightweight.
- FamousAnus, on 08/25/2008, -0/+7Now this is interesting. A guy named "bushisafag" gets modded up so highly for a troll post, mostly full of generalizations and speculation. It speaks volumes about the mentality of the people digging him.
Seriously...is there something wrong with being a 'fag'? I thought the democratic party was progressive, and generally tolerant of homosexuality? You are saying it as if it's somehow a bad thing...and that's just not very liberal of you.
As for Obama or McCain...judging by the things that have already happened, and what you just wrote - I believe that in your mind, Obama can pretty much do no wrong. It's not even worth debating it with you. - getbusyliving, on 08/25/2008, -4/+11He has to win over the average American. Slinging ***** works.
- sudhu, on 08/25/2008, -1/+8no, it just means they learnt from the Kerry campaign mistakes
- getbusyliving, on 08/25/2008, -9/+15He has to appeal to the average American. The same type of people that voted Bush in twice. This tactic works with them.
- mnemy, on 08/25/2008, -5/+11There's a huge difference in how both campaigns point out deficiencies in their opponents. If you can't see that, you're blind.
- radiofrequency, on 08/25/2008, -0/+6That was a great ad.
- elipabst, on 08/25/2008, -1/+7That's exactly what Kerry did and he spent months on the defensive. When he finally tried to get aggressive it was too late. I don't know why the Democrats let the Republicans guilt trip them into feeling bad about playing hard ball. John McCain was supposed to be about change from the Washington business-as-usual too. It didn't take McCain long to resort to mud-slinging attack ads did it? The future of this country is too important to feel bad about hurting someone's feelings.
- inactive, on 08/25/2008, -2/+8How else is MakiMaki going to get paid by huffpo? A link to a youtube post doesnt make anyone money.
Just start to bury everything he submits, since half of it is propaganda spam he was paid to game to the homepage anyway. - HiCaP, on 08/25/2008, -1/+7Well then, McCain needs some Ninjas then, everyone
knows Ninjas Kick muslim Ass - solboldi, on 08/25/2008, -5/+11There are 2 versions of this on the homepage right now. But Digg is not extremely biased...not at all.
- boxlight, on 08/25/2008, -2/+8> The first has someone in the primary attacking Obama. That person became Obama's VP.
It wasn't just an attack. It was Biden -- Obama's VP and a senior, respected, experienced Democrat -- saying that Obama was not a good choice because he'd need "on the job training". In the same ad Biden says he would be happy to run with McCain, that the country would be better off.
This is *damning* stuff. Obama's camp is going to have to spin their butts off to shake this one.
If Democrats don't recognize McCain's ad as strong, and Obama's as weak, then they're in big big trouble. - InfiniteNothing, on 08/25/2008, -2/+8I must say, as an Obama supporter, I'm a bit disappointed. I guess, I'd rather be disappointed now than in Nov though
- elipabst, on 08/25/2008, -2/+8The convention hasn't started yet.
- dougs55, on 08/25/2008, -1/+7Don't forget his graduation rank at the Naval Academy, 894 out of 899 graduates that year.
I remember the Sam Cooke song too, but from Animal House. When it originally came out in 1960 I was still in kindergarten. :D - thespiff, on 08/25/2008, -1/+6Please, tell us where you are from so that we may all ***** on your government!
- solboldi, on 08/25/2008, -2/+7"I am from Illinois and am leaning toward Obama but what has he done for my state? Spent all of his time running for president."
Yep...Obama was running for office while his mother was dying of cancer. He was too busy to visit her. She died before he did visit. That didn't stop him from running a TV ad about his healthcare platform and putting her in the video though. - WasabiBomb, on 08/25/2008, -1/+6... and it still won't be anywhere near the gaffes, flipflops, and outright lies coming from McCain.
- bjs3171, on 08/25/2008, -0/+5haha. you just suggested democrats are better at humor. i'm a democrat, but this party is about as humorless as a ***** funeral. otherwise, someone might get offended.
- TheSabre, on 08/25/2008, -0/+5Do you say that to people who make fun of the way Bush speaks?
- inactive, on 08/25/2008, -6/+11Oh dear, listen to the Right Wingers whinge, piss and moan. Tough *****, *****, you brought this on yourselves with your negativity and generally being ***** lying scumbags all the ***** time, honorless douchebags.
From my perspective, this ad is very *mild*. They go easy on that old chump. This is a very mild and polite ad, as far as I am concerned. - Seedstorm, on 08/25/2008, -15/+20I don't see what's so great about this ad. It certainly doesn't demonstrate anything to me about Senator McCain's lack of grasp of economics or cronyism with the current administration.
The quote is meaningless without its original context, much less a damning confession. Absent that, all the ad has to present by way of argument is a slick re-imagining of an old pop song, and photos of Senator McCain with President Bush, which is not surprising, considering they are both public servants.
I am not trying to single out Senator Obama; Senator McCain is probably just as guilty of publishing ads that contain nothing more than innuendo and ad hominem comments. What concerns me the most is that people seem to find this acceptable, rather than rational discussion/argument based on full disclosure of the facts. I know, I'm probably being unrealistic if I expect that expressing my viewpoint in a little comment will do anything to turn the tide of this disturbing trend.
But, for what it's worth... - Cyberdactyl, on 08/25/2008, -21/+26Two front page diggs on Obama's "Don't know Much" ad.
The far left is in real need for a hard-on fix this Monday are they not? - Bluemanz, on 08/25/2008, -4/+9I completely agree with you. Unfortunately, it seems anybody with anything rational to say on this subject are being dugg down. Seems like Digg is about as Fair and Balanced as some other news outlets I know of.
