- Wilarseny, on 08/26/2008, -6/+160Does that say something about the rest of his ads that it took me until a little while in the article to get that it was a parody?
- kplo, on 04/01/2009, -3/+107that's a parody
- jscrilla, on 08/26/2008, -9/+103It was funny, especially the last line.
McCain defended it, telling reporters, "It played very well in all of my living rooms." - blakecr, on 08/26/2008, -11/+71A second ad featuring Obama's youngest child has just been released comparing Sasha to Sponge Bob.
Here is the transcript:
"Sasha Obama may not live under the sea, but she is against drilling here and drilling now, a long time stance from playful adventurer Sponge Bob Square Pants.
Do you want a Presidents kids to be for wearing square pants?
I am John McCain and I wear diapers not square pants.
P.S. I was a POW." - ElGubrush, on 08/26/2008, -11/+68It'd be funnier if it wasn't so damn plausible
- rahamm, on 08/26/2008, -8/+58McCain didn't have a chance to attack kids for 5 years...................When he was a POW
- dBass, on 08/26/2008, -16/+65Parody? The fact that McSame is even running for POTUS is a parody.
- CdnPhoto, on 08/26/2008, -1/+48"Andy Borowitz is a comedian and writer whose work appears in The New Yorker and The New York Times, and at his award-winning humor site, BorowitzReport.com. "
No, he wasn't serious. Those kids were really cute though. - inactive, on 08/27/2008, -6/+51I know I'll get buried for this, but that parody wasn't very funny at all.
- inactive, on 08/26/2008, -5/+32Read the fine print at the bottom of the article.
- inactive, on 08/27/2008, -8/+34the onion > huffington post
- Drahkar, on 08/27/2008, -4/+21.... I dislike things like this on what is supposed to be a legitimate news site. Its one thing when its coming from the onion. You know what you are reading. But to have it posted on what is supposed to be a legitimate news site and have the only things pointing out that its a joke being small text hidden at the bottom.. I'm not impressed.
- apothekari, on 08/26/2008, -0/+16"HEY YOU KIDS!"
"GET OFF MY LAWN!" - Wilarseny, on 08/26/2008, -1/+16I mean, I'm no huge Obama apologetic like a lot of people on these boards, but ads like the Ayers one, or the Biden/Clinton on Obama are just attacks for no legit policy reason. They play on peoples' fears about BO's race, and make little mention of policy. They're divisive and ruthless, and while Obama's ads lately are not a whole lot better, this is more of a trend with McCain's ads, not even to mention his statements. Come on, to allege that the other candidate is seeking the office of POTUS only to appease his own desperate need for political power is low and baseless.
- dcmjzero, on 08/27/2008, -1/+13is that sarcasm? i can't tell anymore.
- wwwonka, on 08/27/2008, -2/+13no there are two sad parts here:
1. is that you are another that throws the word "liberal" around without a clue to it's meaning. Just regurgitating what you probably hear on Fox News or Rush. You are just a sheep.
2. with McCain being so negative you almost have to stop and think, would McCain REALLY do it. I truly don't put it it past his campaign anymore. It's been a disgrace to respectability. - zarrel40, on 08/27/2008, -1/+12liberals?? what does liberal mean to you dear sir? why are you calling everyone that is behind obama a liberal when this is not nearly the case. Please inform me on what the definition of liberal is to you so i can understand your slander.
- MrTito, on 08/27/2008, -5/+15I didn't doubt the premise and scanned the article looking for a video, not aware that it was a parody until I started reading. That reflexive instinct should say everything anyone needs to know about the tone of the McCain campaign.
- inactive, on 08/27/2008, -1/+11dugg for president of US acronym
THE POTUS... sounds potent - ruinedbydesign, on 08/26/2008, -6/+15though I wouldn't put it past him. :P
- Wilarseny, on 08/26/2008, -1/+10Sure, it proves a political purpose, but not a policy one. It's a character slam, and worse I think most of the labels both McCain and Obama throwing around are simply invalid. On this specific issue, perhaps our original sources disagree. Yes, he chaired an organization Ayers started, but that's the extent to which I've seen the relationship proven. Care to link me toward where he's lied? I'm not being sarcastic, just curious. I've seen a lot of fingerpointing here and no real evidence.
That being said, that ad wasn't even put out by McCain's campaign, which is something I should've noted above. What about the whole "The One" ad? I suppose you could say criticizing someone for not earning their celebrity is valid, but it really has no direct relevance to the campaign in terms of specific issues. That's what I hate about all these ads, both McCain's the and the newer, more "aggressive" Obama ones: there's no substance, just label throwing. "Out of touch", "Celebrity", and so on and so forth. There's no dialogue on policy in a single one of them. - inactive, on 08/26/2008, -8/+17Well, he didn't say they were fathered by Janet Reno. I guess McCain has matured.
- morningmatters, on 08/27/2008, -6/+14Parody or not, last two elections have proved that average American are easily swayed by vicious attack ads regardless the truth. While it's commendable that Obama is trying to take the high road, the only way to beat McCain's Rovian PR team is to fight fire with fire. Sad but true.
- wwwonka, on 08/27/2008, -3/+11another loser throwing out a "liberal" label. Come on, use that little bit of intelligence you might have and use some words, or ideas, that can make up for your canned responses.
...just another sheep. bah bah bah - Kenzan, on 08/27/2008, -3/+11I was totally expecting that he'd called them "trollops and *****"
- SquigglyP, on 08/27/2008, -1/+8Did you read it at all?
- Aitese, on 08/27/2008, -0/+6The LAST line?! Are you serious?
"we had to do something to give the American people some straight talk on those two brats," Sen. McCain said today...
That didn't send alarm bells ringing that this might be a joke? It's in the third paragraph. - wipis, on 08/27/2008, -1/+7If the Huffington Post wants to be taken seriously shouldn't they refrain from including parody in their publications?
- enjo13, on 08/27/2008, -1/+7It may be satire, but its not without precedence.
"Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno.”
– Sen. John McCain, speaking to a Republican dinner, June 1998.
http://www.crooksandliars.com/2008/02/09/john-mcca ... - Diggnabbit, on 08/26/2008, -5/+10He really didn't.
- inactive, on 08/27/2008, -9/+14McCain hates children
- davidg11, on 08/27/2008, -0/+5I can't believe 64 diggers dugg the comment "this was funny"
Is there some humor test digg can whip up that diggers have to take?
I mean in the last two days front page stories about
Police Academy guy: not funny
Guy doing stunt skateboarding and loses foot of hamburger meat : not funny
WTF digg? - Adgeman, on 08/27/2008, -3/+8Or maybe most of us think McCain is a man without too many morals and would do pretty much anything to get win.
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -3/+8Barack Obama lived in the same area of Chicago as Ayers, and Ayers has been a politically active member of that community for years. Considering that, it’s actually remarkable how little the two have to do with each other. Early in Barack Obama’s career, he attended one reception in his honor at Ayers’s house. They also were separately asked by a charitable organization to serve on that organization’s board. And that’s it. There’s no friendship between the two, no relationship, no history of working together.
- LumberingOaf, on 08/27/2008, -0/+5Andy Borowitz is a hack. This should be labeled as satire. Normally, I wouldn't suggest that it's necessary to do so, but since Borowitz isn't all that funny, it's should be required in this case. Otherwise, you have to go all the way to the end of the piece to where it says that he's a "comedian", so that you can say "Oh, I see what he was trying to do there".
- GDOG5, on 08/27/2008, -0/+4oh my god you're an idiot!
- Barackalypse, on 08/27/2008, -0/+4This is a parody, there is no such McCain ad. From the bottom of the article "Andy Borowitz is a comedian and writer whose work appears in The New Yorker and The New York Times, and at his award-winning humor site..."
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -4/+8The Annenberg Institute does good work.
Unless they comitted a crime together or something... I really don't give a *****. - soflasooner, on 08/27/2008, -1/+5The title "New McCain Ad Attacks Obama Kids" is the most misleading, moronic headline I've read in a very long time. Of course, the typical Huffington Post liberal is going to read the headline and run with it, notwithstanding the facts (why let facts get in the way). Anyone who reads any material portion of the article will know that this is: a) satire, b) a poor attempt at humor (not to be redundant or repetitive) or c) outright fiction.
Another nice piece by the Huff & Puff Post - the website for those who would rather do anything but think. - dcmjzero, on 08/27/2008, -1/+5tell that to mccain's daughter. or post a reply on her blog. http://mccainblogette.com/
- VinnieDaMac, on 08/27/2008, -3/+7Very believable.
- smacksaw, on 08/27/2008, -1/+5That really was the moneyshot.
- 3amboo, on 08/27/2008, -2/+6John McCain hates black children.
- BigNewbs, on 08/27/2008, -0/+4Now I can laugh at the article...and at you.
- SquigglyP, on 08/27/2008, -0/+4You didn't read the article.
- rblancarte, on 08/27/2008, -0/+4Thank you Captain Obvious
- hollywoodphony, on 08/27/2008, -2/+6Should be angry? It's a joke. If someone can't read that and figure out it's a parody, that's their problem.
- enantiodromia, on 08/27/2008, -0/+3WEB 2.0 HTTP ERROR:
401 SUBMITTER AND/OR COMMENTER OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T "GET IT" - SoulGrub, on 08/27/2008, -3/+6Haha, gullible are the Americans who would elect George W Bush for a third term. The world is laughing at you.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 08/27/2008, -2/+5@Novaculus: Wow, a link to an opinion piece and a random blog.
The credibility here is mind-blowing.
Show me some this "ample evidence," and I'll consider believing you. As it stands you have nothing but wild suppositions and hear-say to offer me. That you dedicate so much time and energy to the repeating of such worthless drivel is sad. -
