I dare you to! - johnnr2, on 03/12/2009, -14/+72Maybe she'll put the airport on E-bay when its finished.
- tehdriver, on 03/13/2009, -5/+53Its circular logic, and not really worth intelligent debate.
The article clearly addresses she was opposed to any earmarks, regardless of their intentions during the campaign. You say earmarks are ways to insure some of the federal money makes their way into their districts.
That's what earmarks have always been. That's what she claims to have always been against. Until this time, because she wants to insure some of the federal money makes its way into her state.
Then what? She'll go back to opposing them? Until the next time its relevant in her interest to support them of course. - philosophyzombi, on 03/12/2009, -18/+64I can't speak for anyone else, but I am shocked! /s

Sarah Palin's gearing up for another presidential run in 2012, and she's still basking in a bit of leftover fame, so when she runs directly counter to her stated values, it's news. Hell, it's news when any governor who made his or her fame campaigning against earmarks suddenly decides to take $140 million in earmarks. It's not really news when it happens in Alaska, considering that earmarks and pork were the main reasons why we kept re-electing Ted Stevens despite his incredible corruption, but since Palin pretended to be above that, it is news. - nllx, on 03/13/2009, -6/+37*sigh* Even Ron Paul helps with earmarks:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB118636043871288806 ... - kinseyincanada, on 03/13/2009, -6/+26why do still care about Palin, shes completely irrelevant. Just ignore her.
- DogofWar1, on 03/13/2009, -4/+24Wait, if you're admitting that Obama won, and that we should get off of Palin's back because of that, shouldn't you also admit that since we won republicans should quite getting in the way of legislation that was approved of by the American people when they voted all the democrats in?
- tehdriver, on 03/13/2009, -1/+21I asked my cousin that lives in Alaska the very same question. He said it's not socialism because the money comes from the industry, not the government. Of course, he left out energy subsidies and government money that goes towards surveying and exploration in Alaska. I guess it's not evil socialism for a red state if the oil trust gets their hands on it first.
- DireWolf11, on 03/12/2009, -13/+33by the far best is the funds to prosecute bootlegging, if you can't bootleg in Alaska then goddamn it where can you bootleg,
some of the best microbrews in the world come from up there - MacEnvy, on 03/13/2009, -1/+21Yeah, he actually never promised that, saying that he believed many earmarks were worthwhile expenditures, but that the system did need to be reformed.. But I know other people have already pointed that out to you, so you're just being willfully disingenuous. No prob.
- clvngodess, on 03/12/2009, -21/+39I think the state song of Alaska should be changed to the Talking Heads song, "Road to nowhere..."
- Dustin00, on 03/13/2009, -0/+17I'd agree with you, except:
Alaska will receive more money, per capita, from the bill's earmarks than any other state -- $209.71 for each state resident.
I would expect her to aim for the middle of the pack AT MOST from her previous rhetoric. - smacksaw, on 03/13/2009, -4/+21You'd have been correct had you not used Palin as the example. I mean...the article mentions it, there's a post before yours that mentions it...may I remind you directly:
BRIDGE TO NOWHERE
And the big ***** stink she made about how she was better than that.
No one is more against earmarks than Ron Paul, but anyone with a brain can understand Paul wanting to get a portion of his constituents money back. He fights the machine by voting against tax increases and educating people on the problems of earmarking.
Palin just makes up lies and then moralises like a hypocrite. She has zero to do with your analogy and that's why you're being buried. It's not the argument about earmarks themselves. Even people who hate Ron Paul can admit that he would not be doing his job if he didn't bring home the bacon for his district.
Sarah Palin? That's the different story. Do not come on Digg, skip the article, read zero comments and then just spout off something we already know. I've made that post myself...EXCEPT NOT ABOUT PALIN BECAUSE I KNOW HER LIES ON THE BRIDGE TO NOWHERE. - quamb, on 03/13/2009, -6/+23Who is Sarah Palin?
- FrozenPie, on 03/13/2009, -8/+24*facepalms*
The topic of earmarks is just a distraction to divert everyone's attention from the real issues.
Seriously... Less than 2% of the $410 billion Omnibus bill is pork. Jon Stewart said it best, bitching about earmarks is like going to a 99 cent store and bitch about it costing $1.01 instead. And come on McCain, you have no credibility whatsoever, you voted for the TARP literally filled with earmarks. All of this is just grandstanding for the Republicans as well as the Democrats. It's a damn shame that most Americans fall for these small issues every goddamn time.
So please America, give this earmark discussion a rest already and focus on the real waste, issues, policies. Focus on real wasteful spending, especially on our economy and our warfare/welfare bureaucracy. - smacksaw, on 03/13/2009, -4/+18I hope you enjoyed the two weeks your account as been back before you get the banhammer.
Learn the ***** lesson. Are you seriously 39? Grow up. Calling the President "The Magic Negro" is the problem. Regulate yourself or get regulated by the moderators...again. - geekee, on 03/13/2009, -9/+23Who cares? They lost. Why aren't we complaining Obama signed the bill? I laughed out loud when he said the stimulus bill had no earmarks. And now he goes and signs this one. This article is a distraction from the real issues.
And if you don't think 8 billion is a lot of money, feel free to send me $20. That's less than your share of the debt for these earmarks, so it should be no big deal. - ldkronos, on 03/13/2009, -0/+13And on top of that, the state already receives the most money, per person, of any state, and it's already in the top 5 in terms of states that receive more money from the fed than it pays (approaching $2 received for every $1 paid).
In short, they already get a more than fair share. - Loonacy, on 03/13/2009, -0/+12Sorry, i sniped it for $5.
- TheWriteGuy, on 03/13/2009, -7/+19Don't Alaskans get free money from the oil industry every year? I have friends who live in Texas, one of the major oil and energy producing states of the union, and they don't expect money because of it. Don't they call this socialism?
Seriously, Palin and her fascist supporters need to shut the ***** up. - shig, on 03/13/2009, -1/+12Article 1 Section 9
"No money shall be drawn from the treasury, but in consequence of appropriations made by law; and a regular statement and account of the receipts and expenditures of all public money shall be published from time to time."
Earmarks are clearly part of the congressional appropriation process. Cut spending like Ron Paul, not the Constitutional responsibilities of Congress to their constituents. Almost 99% of this budget is being delivered in lump sum fashion to federal agencies under the executive branch, and Obama threatened to veto it because Congress didn't give his branch the other 1%. Please...

He said he'll REFORM the process and cut them down. At least he didn't campaign on the Zero Earmark ***** like that half-witted wingnut queen Sarah Palin.

I thought he was hypocritical at first, but he does make a fair argument. - JesusSaidSo, on 03/13/2009, -0/+11***** you, I want my money back from the last 8 years.
Is that enough of a refute for you?
Or how about the fact that Alaska doesn't pay in ***** yet gets double their money back in federal funds. THEN ON TOP OF THAT they bitch about getting the funds. - diblasio, on 03/13/2009, -4/+14So we're still talking about her instead of things that matter?
- Archer007, on 03/13/2009, -5/+15The biased liberal media is clearly... um... reporting the facts. Yeah. Socialists!!
- inactive, on 03/13/2009, -10/+20Even though I don't like Palin, she's only requesting funds to support her state. It's part of the reason she was voted in and her job. If she wasn't looking out for her state (since she failed to become VP) she'd be a real idiot.
- Dweller99, on 03/13/2009, -3/+13"she is just abiding by her failed vice presidential campaign promises."
So, was she lying then, or is she lying now? Do her principles stand for or against earmarks? I guess now that uncle Ted is not around to bring home the bacon its up to her, huh? - feelmypimphand, on 03/13/2009, -0/+10Uh, maybe I misread the article...
They were not pointing out the fact she accepted the earmarks...they were pointing out the fact she SAID she wouldn't accept them and did.
Maybe if you go over the below definition 'a million times' you might get it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypocrite - tonberryqueen, on 03/13/2009, -0/+10If I threw in ten bucks for the pizza and ate two pieces, and Sarah threw in five bucks and ate three pieces, I'd be pissed.
Especially if she kept jawing on and on while we were waiting for the delivery guy about how she didn't actually want pizza, didn't ask for pizza, and wouldn't accept any pizza when it came. - Dweller99, on 03/13/2009, -2/+12yeah.. scared... that's it.
Please, oh please run her in 2012. Should make an entertaining year. - Matri, on 03/13/2009, -0/+10I bid $4.
- shadus, on 03/13/2009, -1/+10lol, however, I gotta say... she's a neo-con... here actions and words bear no resemblance, everything is hypocrisy.
- HappyScrappy, on 03/13/2009, -0/+9Alaska doesn't pay their share.
For every $1 of federal taxes they pay, they receive $1.82 back.
So by earmarking federal money to Alaska, things aren't being made more equitable, but less equitable.
Maybe the money should be spent in states that receive less than they pay, like New Jersey or Nevada, both of which receive less than $0.75 for each dollar they pay in federal taxes.
http://taxprof.typepad.com/taxprof_blog/2004/09/re ... - MacEnvy, on 03/13/2009, -0/+9Because it didn't go anywhere that deserved a bridge.

- adcdl, on 03/13/2009, -1/+10All governors request appropriations for their states. The governors have no control whether Congress hands out money in the form of "earmarks" or as other types of appropriations.
She has reduced the amount of federal funding requests for Alaska each year she has been in office. But if you have a problem with earmarks for Alaska, you should talk to Begich, Murkowski, and Young - not Palin.
http://media.adn.com/smedia/2008/09/05/05/758-05PA ... - inactive, on 03/13/2009, -0/+90.8% according to my calculation
- AresDiggs, on 03/13/2009, -2/+10Didn't read the article - But answer me this... How the hell do you have an airport to nowhere? its a god damn airport.. the planes can fly any place they want once they take off.. WTF?
- Girlzilla, on 03/13/2009, -0/+8This analogy might make sense if there was a budget surplus. Unfortunately, the national debt is staggeringly high. That hypothetical pizza pool doesn't have extra pizza hanging around. A smaller pizza would have been ordered. This is more akin to someone complaining that money was being wasted on pizza then asking for a larger pizza to be ordered so they could have some too.
- foucaultsvac, on 03/13/2009, -4/+12This is as ridiculous as the "scandal" of Ron Paul accepting earmarks.
Buried. - JEWestbrookJR, on 03/13/2009, -0/+8I think I saw a movie where a couple of Russians ended up at her house....
- Demener, on 03/13/2009, -0/+8You don't seem to know what per capita means do you?
Either that or you're choosing to not care. - inactive, on 03/13/2009, -4/+11@nodiggynowashy what a ***** racist u are. shut up and please stop posting on digg. I found a perfect website ***** like you:
www.rigg.com
for the moronic rightwingers who complain about the left leaning of digg.com - upstream1, on 03/13/2009, -3/+10Ya, I mean anyone with half a brain who suffered through McCain speeches
thought to themselves,
isn't it the job of the person I elect to recieve earmarks from the federal
government for local projects? Thats kinda one of the points of having
representatives...... - Wakuko, on 03/13/2009, -0/+7The fact that she is the governor of alaska should have us all worried about the giant failure our political system is...
