- kemp34, on 08/11/2008, -13/+129Of course these asinine chicken hawks would puff out their chests and try to be tough. Send William Kristol to the front lines where his rhetoric belongs.
- Hangly, on 08/11/2008, -16/+107First they ask us to make bricks without straw, and now they want us to wage war with no money and no soldiers.
Let. My. People. Go.
Sorry, I'm a little tired. - Conwaysb0718, on 08/11/2008, -19/+92I find using our military for anything other than the defense of this country to be utterly ridiculous. I dont give a ***** if Russia invades Darfur, its none of our damn business and isnt worth putting a single boot in harms way.
- jstohler, on 08/11/2008, -10/+78After Iran and Russia, the neo cons want us to invade (in no particular order): Venezuela, North Korea, Quebec, Northern California, Detroit, their old bullies' houses and all Arby's in the greater Washington DC area.
- ZZeke, on 08/11/2008, -10/+56***** war-pig Kristol, and all of the other armchair warriors in the neo-con cabal. Let them go fight this one themselves. Manicured pussies sit around and play with human lives like it's a board game - just not their own lives.
Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor - inactive, on 08/11/2008, -17/+63Alright, and from the Neocons, we get the high school cheerleader solution to the problem - just blow the ***** out of everyone.
- moulin1, on 08/11/2008, -3/+42Has anyone but me noticed that the US is now sending military aircraft, loaded with Georgian reinforcements, into a war zone? US pilots flying US Army transports will be sharing wartime airspace with Russian fighters. Anyone wondering what's going to happen if a hothead Russian Mig pilot decides to plug one of our planes with a missile? Or for that matter what if a Georgian pilot looking to trigger full scale US involvement does the same?
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -5/+42I don't think the neocons could protect Atlanta, Georgia from the Russians.
- Conwaysb0718, on 08/11/2008, -4/+35when you print money out of thin air thats backed by... thin air. yes, we have a limitless supply of money.
- Hangly, on 08/12/2008, -1/+26It's not remotely a democracy, and I never gave anyone *****.
- moulin1, on 08/11/2008, -1/+24Important background. From 1 week before war joint US/Georgian military exercise : http://georgiandaily.com/index.php?option=com_cont ...
- overridemymind, on 08/12/2008, -2/+23Has everyone in our country lost their goddamned minds!? Hellooo? Anyone remember the FRACKING COLD WAR!? You know, the one where we were all scared to death -- the one where bomb shelters, missile bases, and stealth bombers were built en-masse? The one where the gov't told us that "duck and cover" was a good idea?
The one where the end of the world was narrowly avoided on several occasions (by way of nuclear brinksmanship [see: Cuban Missile Crisis + multiple incidents whereas computer glitches nearly sparked nuclear war])
Now, I know Russia != Soviet Union (by itself, anyway), but just because their former form of gov't collapsed doesn't mean that they don't still have a large military that possesses nukes! Are we SERIOUSLY considering going to a full-on WAR with another nuclear + ICBM possessing superpower? Just the fact that anyone even thought of it tells me that there is something horribly, horribly wrong with this nation! Honestly, when, exactly did we become responsible for the entirety of the planet? Why is Georgia any of our business?
I agree with Hangly -- democracy my ass. - angusm, on 08/11/2008, -5/+26The title is misleading: the people quoted speak in vague terms of "a serious effort" and "maximum pressure". Even Kagan just hints at things to come by comparing Georgia/South Ossetia to the Sudetenland. That stops fairly far short of calling for the U.S. to "launch war with Russia".
The neocons are making predictable noises. They certainly aren't calling for the U.S. to go mano-a-mano with Russia, because there's no profit in getting involved in a shooting war with a nuclear power. Expect "maximum pressure" to consist of strongly-worded speeches at the UN, covert supply of arms and intelligence, and possible trade sanctions.
I wouldn't normally agree with Kagan on much, but he's right when he sees this as a move in a decades-long larger conflict. The major powers are all trying to position themselves to control certain key strategic resources, whether to use them for their own benefit or simply to deny them to their competitors. The invasion of Iraq was one such move; this is another. - inactive, on 08/11/2008, -3/+23Hey, that's not a bad idea - I say we follow their lead and pull OUR troops out of Iraq so that they can defend OUR country.
- virtorio, on 08/12/2008, -5/+25They ought to fire Bill Kristol, out of a cannon if possible.
Ugly mother ***** too. - inactive, on 08/12/2008, -6/+25Pearl Harbor wasn't a surprise attack. Australian intelligence warned the US prior to the attack about the movement of a large Japanese fleet towards the base.
- topgigmedia, on 08/12/2008, -4/+22Russia would clean our clocks - mainly because no one would help us... that is the thing about burning bridges. The Neocons need to shut their pie holes.
- cyberdork, on 08/12/2008, -1/+18"As if we could afford another war"
As if you could SURVIVE another war!
Seems like people have forgotten the 15000 nuclear warheads Russia would use to turn the US into a desert just minutes after the first US soldier would step on Russian soil. The whole idea of the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact was to create a buffer zone between their enemies and the Russian motherland, to make sure no enemy soldier would step ever again on Russian soil. And if you realize that you can imagine how pissed the Russians are to see soldiers in NATO uniforms right at their border, and missile and radar installations on territory they more or less controlled just 20 years ago.
Just because the Cold War is over doesn't mean the Mutual Assured Destruction doctrine is not valid anymore.
Seems like most kids here on digg don't remember the good old NATO vs Warsaw Pact times. - Hangly, on 08/11/2008, -9/+26The war in Europe? It was won before we got there.
The war in the Pacific? That was self-defense. - kemp34, on 08/11/2008, -5/+21If you are interested in destroying the entire fabric of the economy.
- Conwaysb0718, on 08/11/2008, -4/+19wouldnt change my mind... not one bit.

For the love of god please watch that video, the world is not as you know it. - Conwaysb0718, on 08/11/2008, -2/+16not really picking up what i was putting down, eh kemp?
- Nodaki, on 08/11/2008, -35/+48The Zionist NeoCons are pushing for complete removal of constitutional rights and complete enslavement of the people of the United States. War with another nation will result in only one outcome...forced conscription of U.S. citizens. This will lead to a war that most likely will involve nuclear weapons, the institution of the executive orders that Bush has been signing (complete dictatorial control over the U.S.).
Their agenda couldn't be more nefarious. - inactive, on 08/12/2008, -1/+13More like "Hey Bob, you wanna go out and see if that dust cloud cleared?"
- inactive, on 08/12/2008, -4/+16@ kemp this has already happened and is continuing to happen
the only thing that is holding Americas house of cards economy together is that people still 'believe' the money they hold is worth something.
Back in the good old days you could trade your $ for real gold.
Now you can trade your $ to the government for ... absolutely.. nothing. - NidStyles, on 08/12/2008, -5/+17Um, Zionists are not Jews. They are Zionists.
- Hangly, on 08/11/2008, -5/+17They are sort of legitimate military targets, aren't they.
- topgigmedia, on 08/12/2008, -1/+13Does ANYONE understand the situation???? Geez people!
Georgia's military has been completely built and created by the US. We essentially armed them, paid for their military and then, hey! - they came to "help" us in Iraq. think of it as a nice proof of military competence so that they can join NATO.
Well things in Georgia are not all that happily ever after. While Georgia almost immediately became independent after the fall of the Soviet Empire, within its own borders there has been a rift. I would love to go into more detail, but you are all smart enough to read up on this and I need sleep.
Bottom line, seek the truth as to what is really going on here. It is complicated and once again, the US has made a mess of things partially. - madfrogurt, on 08/12/2008, -9/+20Man, only seven posts before someone is already blaming thew Jews for the siutation then shoehorning it into yet another doomsday prophesy.
Digg has the worst online community this side of Stormfront. - Bagos1, on 08/12/2008, -3/+14You are right....in fact they'd sell it to them if they had a chance, traitorous war mongers for profit and power.....as long as it stays safe for them.
They won't go toe to toe with Russia. Russia can fight back. - hugolp, on 08/12/2008, -1/+12@Spudster I agree with you that going back to a gold standar is very risky and probably a bad decision (specially now that bankers own the gold USAmericans use to own), but saying "our current tightly controlled money suply" is just a big joke.
- russianfella, on 08/12/2008, -1/+12what the ***** is that ***** talking about? war with Russia, gimme a break yanks
Russia is not a ***** middleeast country like Iran, Iraq or Israel
do you have any idea where it would come to? - mushoo, on 08/12/2008, -2/+12Looks like Quayle's Brain is at it again.
Bill Maher on think tanks and Bill Kristol.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcJohfS4vTQ
"And finally New Rule in two parts; A you can't call yourself a think-tank if all your ideas are stupid, and B if you're someone from one of the think-tanks that dreamed up the Iraq War and who predicted that we'd be greeted as liberators, and that we wouldn't need a lot of troops, and that Iraqi oil would pay for the war, that the WMDs would be found, that the looting wasn't problematic, that the mission was accomplished, that the insurgency was in it's last throes, that things would get better after the people voted after the government was formed after we got Saddam after we got his kids after we got Zarqawi the whole mess wouldn't turn into a civil war, you have to stop making predictions."
"William Kristol poo pooed the fears that Sunnis and Shiites would be at each others throats as the stuff of pop-psychology, right and having your head chopped off is just a quick way to drop eleven pounds. Kristol of course is revered by much of the right because he was Dan Quayle's Chief of Staff and was known as Quayle's' Brain. You know that. Which sounded impressive until I remembered Dan Quayle didn't have a brain. And now Mr. Kristol proposes immediate military action against Iran predicting the Iranians will thank us for it.
Hey you know what Nostradamus? Why don't you sit this one out!" - Delphium226, on 08/12/2008, -1/+11Now there's a pleasant thought.
- insanebrain, on 08/12/2008, -1/+11NOT ! We have learned from the dirty 'Iraq-trick'. So if the US goes, we just put up our middle finger.
- D1ckFace, on 08/12/2008, -2/+12Hmmm, It seems all false flag attacks are preceeded by an "exercise" these days...
- lithera, on 08/12/2008, -0/+10Nope, the US would be on it's own here. The EU is way to dependent on Russia for it's gas and oil to get involved in this mess.
- inactive, on 08/12/2008, -0/+10Well, the UK might still come help you guys. We're still sore about that spy the Russians killed on our turf. But wait! What about all that lovely oil/gas the Rusiians give us?!?!
I get the feeling our Govt would find it difficult to choose which arse to lick first. Our PM's not called 'Brown' for nothing... - TheJimid, on 08/11/2008, -4/+14You would think with everyone calling each other comrade they would get along better.
- Spudster, on 08/12/2008, -1/+10Dugg for John Titor.
Amazing how such ***** could be spun to be almost convincable. - Hangly, on 08/11/2008, -1/+10I see someone's been reading the works of John Titor.
- inactive, on 08/12/2008, -2/+11How US media is manipulated.
http://exiledonline.com/georgia-gets-its-war-onmcc ...
small excerpt:
The invasion was backed up by a PR offensive so layered and sophisticated that I even got an hysterical call today from a hedge fund manager in New York, screaming about an “investor call” that Georgian Prime Minister Lado Gurgenidze made this morning with some fifty leading Western investment bank managers and analysts. I’ve since seen a J.P. Morgan summary of the conference call, which pretty much reflects the talking points later picked up by the US media.
These kinds of conference calls are generally conducted by the heads of companies in order to give banking analysts guidance. But as the hedge fund manager told me today, “The reason Lado did this is because he knew the enormous PR value that Georgia would gain by going to the money people and analysts, particularly since Georgia is clearly the aggressor this time.” As a former investment banker who worked in London and who used to head the Bank of Georgia, Gurgenidze knew what he was doing. “Lado is a former banker himself, so he knew that by framing the conflict for the most influential bankers and analysts in New York, that these power bankers would then write up reports and go on CNBC and argue Lado Gurgenidze’s talking points. It was brilliant, and now you’re starting to see the American media shift its coverage from calling it Georgia invading Ossetian territory, to the new spin, that it’s Russian imperial aggression against tiny little Georgia.” - Caffeinate, on 08/12/2008, -0/+9Dugg down because there is a difference between criticizing Israeli leaders, the Israeli Defense Lobby and criticizing Jewish people. Zionism is not Judaism, nor are all people who identify as Jews the same as zionists (not by a long shot!).
There are plenty of Jews in this country that don't want the vision that many Israeli leaders and many neo conservatives share. Much of it is rooted in ideas from the King James version of the bible, and the twisted interpretations some people have used to justify stirring up discontent in the Middle East and other areas of the world.
My personal view, and feel free to call me antisemitic if you like though it is not true, is that Israel *does* need to calm down. They - the nation of Israel and the leaders of Israel - seem to be on a war footing constantly, and do not make efforts for peace with any of their neighbors. Many of the problems in the Middle East could be dealt with in a more peaceful manner if Israel would let go of the constant tough talk and posturing.
Does that mean I am "blaming Jews" for everything? No. When I criticize my own nation's leaders, George Bush and Dick Cheney, does that mean I am anti-Christian and anti-American?
This is the type of rhetoric that keeps getting us into trouble - don't dare criticize Israel because then you are a dirty evil jew-hater. Stop being so damn hard-line and hard-headed that we must support every little thing Israel does to prove we don't "hate" them. For that matter, recognize that just because someone has valid criticisms of something, that means they are criticizing actions and/or opinions, not people personally. Emotional clap-trap appeals based on generalizations have no business in intelligent debate. - brundlefly76, on 08/12/2008, -2/+11Scary, hyperbolic headline should read "Kristol, Washington Times talk tough on Russia'
They do not encompass all neoconservatives, neither did either specifically say we should enter into a war with Russia. - 335io07, on 08/12/2008, -2/+11Way to speed up nuclear Armageddon.
- Murrabbit, on 08/12/2008, -4/+13Neocons calling for war, what a surprise!
War is just their diplomatic cure-all. They don't seem to know how to do anything else. . . not that they even do war very well, but at least they are good at launching them! - madfrogurt, on 08/12/2008, -3/+12I have no problem with criticism of neocons and AIPAC too. I think they should be called out for their hawkishness. It's just the posters here who use "Zionism" overtly to point to a global Jewish conspiracy, then go on to the downright delusional fear that the Jews are going to kill most of the world and enslave the rest.
