- stillj3, on 10/11/2007, -8/+107Too bad they didn't. These people are not heroes. A hero would have stepped down and shouted from the rooftop about the corruption. One wonders what was given as incentive to stay.
- ganjadude4391, on 10/11/2007, -5/+83Should have posted the direct link @ http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18881810/site/newsweek/ , now we are gonna get comments like : crooksandliars? burried as inaccurate. When there is an original source, for the love of the spaghetti monster give us the original!
- Ajajadude, on 10/11/2007, -2/+56I wonder what the people who voted for Bush in the last election because "He's better than Kerry" have been thinking about lately...
- TexMurphy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+40Another sign that Bush and Cheney cheated in ethics class. Were did these people come from?
- apothekari, on 10/11/2007, -3/+39I love how even hardcore hardcore republicans are finally seeing what a pile of chicken ***** these jokers are.
I still remember the days not so long ago in the lead up to the war when anyone who said ANYTHING cautious was called anti-american or shouted down or called a Traitor!
I hope you stupid ***** choke on your Freedom Fries. - floppyparty, on 10/11/2007, -3/+39@ disciple83
"At least Monkeyboy Bush has stood by his policy the whole time"
Yeah, so did Hitler. I bet he would be a better president then Kerry too.
Standing by your decisions while knowing you are wrong is a sign of weakness. - shadus, on 10/11/2007, -7/+34@ajajadude
It depends, if it was the fundamentalists that would be "Bush is our man, he's doing us proud, God Bless Him! Johnny get ready for bible camp! Make sure you kiss Cardboard W's hand on the way out and say a prayer for him and the good work he's doing in the middle east protecting us from terrorism."
The rest of them are going, "Hmm, I should have voted Cthulhu."
That being said, I voted Kerry, always take the evil you don't know over the person who has already proven them self incompetent. - swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -3/+26the hardcore republicans will never hear about it. they don't even know about the Ashcroft hospital visit. Nationalists have a superhuman capacity for total ignorance about anything that would force them to re-think their position. Note the lack of dissenting voices in this discussion for example.
- stukast1, on 10/11/2007, -2/+24@stillj3
They would've stepped down and been replaced with bush cronies, a lot of good that would do. - johnhummel, on 10/11/2007, -1/+21@islanddog: Basedon the last 6 years, and the 8 before it, I'd think democrats can claim different.
Clinton administration scandals (actually proven, not just blowing smoke): Blow job
Bush administration scandals: getting habeaus corpus restricted, NSA spying, hiring/firing attorney generals based on political party (illegal by the hatch act), torture, "signing statements" (including on a law specifically restricting torture as a method of interrogation), outing an undercover CIA operative, lying about weapons of mass destruction
I miss the days were the worst thing our president did was get a hummer and get a cigar all nasty with a chunky intern. - toddcat, on 10/11/2007, -3/+22Unbelievable. Well, unfortunately not unbelievable, but I wish it was. Good lawd. I agree with the first commenter. I wish they HAD resigned in order to take a stand against this indefensible program.
- dogshaft, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17It's called analogy....
- netdawg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16@disciple83
That has got to be one of the dumbest reasons I've ever heard of for helping to put a dangerous fanatic into office: because his opponent changed his mind. - rald84, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14its too bad viacom is cracking down. john stewart's re-enactment/narration of this event (a week or so ago) was truly hilarious. please post a link if you find this video online.
senator leahy: it almost makes you want to gulp
stewart: ALMOST gulp? does the administration have to sodomize the declaration of indepedence for them to actually gulp? - Neiby, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15Holy. *****.
Do you remember in the Lord of the Rings movies how a darkness spread out of Mordor into the rest of Middle Earth? That's how I feel about this administration. I am ashamed to admit that I voted for Bush the first time around. (But not the second time...) - Depthfunction, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14Wow. How much more evidence do you neotard supporters need to realize that the Bush administration is a criminal regime?
- dogshaft, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15More like...
I'm in yer White House, ***** yer country. - netbear, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13Cheated?? Uh, no... Along with Rove, these guys made cheating into a way of life to further their own political, financial and personal gain as well as that of their cronies, benefactors and political party.
- CDefense7, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9@underthelinux
Yet another step further: the Printer Friendly article with no ads. Of course you have to hit "Cancel" for printing. But worth it.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18881810/site/newsweek/page/0/print/1/displaymode/1098/ - underthelinux, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10@ganja
One step further; single-page article. sorry for comment abuse or hijacking or whatever its called these days.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18881810/site/newsweek/page/0/ - eggo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9I never thought I'd have anything good to say about Ashcroft, but the man stood up for what is right. Too bad it was on his way out the door...
- TheWretched, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8I'm getting real tired of people threatening to do something to take on the incompetence and brute force this government has taken only to back down before the 11th hour.
Seriously, I'll be impressed when someone with some credibility left to their name is willing to risk their life & career to make a difference and stand up against all the corruption and injustice. - Nocturnalis, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8"Another sign that Bush and Cheney cheated in ethics class. Were did these people come from?"
A better question is why where they voted into office? Not once but TWICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - DiggDuggDugged, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7@JimSpaza:
Seeing as how Crooksandliars cites Newsweek as the original source and provides a link to MSNBC's site I would say that a "more credible" source has been provided. Had you actually, ya know, read the article you might have noticed this. - zeroeffect, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8@islanddog
"Like democrats are any different....."
Is that the best you can do... at least *try* to back it up. I bet you'll get at least 10 republican scandals to every democrat scandal. - Coinspinner, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6The fact that Ashcroft is against it should speak volumes. I'm from MO, that guy has been a Bush guy all the way.
- djSyndrome, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8"sorry for comment abuse or hijacking or whatever its called these days"
I don't understand why people apologize for 'comment abuse' when they post relevant links. If anything, in these cases the original submitter should be apologizing for not linking to the original source or citing blogspam. - v0yeur, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6that's where the american people come in - or at least, should come in. where are all the protests?
- pirategaspard, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18881810/site/newsweek/page/0/
- doyadigg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5@AxeSwinger
I consider myself conservative. I hold free markets, personal freedoms, and small government intrusion to be the best thing for the future of this country. However, with republicans we have corporate welfare, countless laws curtailing our freedoms, and too much government intervention and oversight in our lives. These guys are not conservatives. We need people like the founding fathers to run for office. Unfortunatly, they'd be considered radical right wingers and never given the chance. - jamesfallen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5To the people who keep referencing the crooks and liars link. Did you not see the MSNBC link posted? Conservatives should read before sticking their blank in their mouth.
- blaze4metal, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5George W Bush was born in New Haven, Connecticut but pretends that didn't happen. He grew up in Texas and that explains why he was able to penetrate the local government with his billion-dollar daddy. He's really just a rich-boy-turned-hick.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_W._Bush - 98psuAE, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6The article referenced is from MSNBC but linked through crooksandliars. Did you actually go to the website or do you just complain anytime you see a liberal blog linked? I agree with some of the previous posters, it should have been linked directly to MSNBC instead of crooksandliars.
And why no mention caging in the article? - swr1ght, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5@tyrannysucks
Actually, they mostly come from Texas. No comment on any possible similarities between those two locals... - boxx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Ben talked them out of it.
- UnstableMind, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4FTA: "like other ex-officials interviewed by NEWSWEEK, did not wish to be identified discussing sensitive internal matters."
Are you ***** kidding me??? I think sometimes these people forget that they are PUBLIC SERVANTS. This is not "sensitive internal matters", this is "corruption in action" and "I hope no one finds out about this". Eject the lot of them... - GabrielS, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5The protests are in Venezuela. They're being delivered food and water through a fire hose and tanks.
If you have a problem yo, Hugo solve it, check out my hook while the stooges revolve it.
Bob? Gun. - DiggDuggDugged, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4How about practicing what you preach, buddy. Try reading the material and forming a valid opinion before spewing such mindless drivel. About the only thing you've accomplished here today is to look like a total hypocrite.
- Wacer, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4No it wouldn't have. They would have been replaced with crooks and then there would be nobody in the department with good morals.
- Memitim, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That's what really gets me. The one guy that I have always prayed would develop a painful, life threatening illness does (thanks Big G) and then he grows a fragment of a conscience. I'm so torn as to how to feel about this story but I guess I'll call it a net win.
- WITFITS, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3@rald84
Via Comedy Central online:
http://www.comedycentral.com/motherload/index.jhtml?ml_video=87225 - AxeSwinger, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Republicans the party of Nixon and Bush. But when you call them on it most say they're "true" conservatives and their guy does not represent their beliefs.... meh
- dracflamloc, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7@shadus: That being said, I voted Kerry, always take the evil you don't know over the person who has already proven them self incompetent.
Thats the exact reasoning I told my father when I told him I was voting Kerry. - lichme5000, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Ethics class? I doubt that was part of their studies in the first place. Bush probably cut class to do blow, and Cheney was probably staring in a mirror, mastering his smug face.
- djSyndrome, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4It's hard to be a criminal regime when they keep rewriting the laws to their benefit.
- DavidYeah, on 10/11/2007, -5/+7I'd say they simply acted like conservatives-- people who hate proper government. If you hate government, you're probably not going to think the law applies to you-- why the hell should you if you think the government has no legitimate claims to do anything but wage war and protect private property?
- Wacer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I think you are thinking of the whole picture. By saying they are not heros for staying there is wrong. They may have made a statement by quitting but if it doesn't bring about the change that people want, the only people left are the ones who are even more cowardly and the corrupt. Their positions would be filled with people who are also corrupt. It is better they stayed their so they can do the good fight instead of letting the department get filled with immoral sheep.
- AxeSwinger, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3The problem with your belief is the founding fathers were not right wingers and if they did take office now we would repeat, the great depression, the era of robber barons, child labor exploitation. That's not to say our founding fathers were wrong, they were not and the devised a government that allowed us to become one of the greatest nations in history. But, they knew they did not have all the answers.
Free Markets are rarely free. Does free mean, free of government regulation or free of market manipulation? What exactly do you mean buy a free market? A free market can only take you so far in fact if you look at any modern markets mostly were started or funded by government with the exception of farming. We subsided auto by building roads that could be driven, the US provided subsidies for electricity, oil, semiconductors, the internet, telecommunications, airlines all when they were fledging markets. Why should we as taxpayers not reap exponential rewards for our investment. Instead companies in an effort to seek more profits lobby for free markets and we as taxpayers lose our return on investment. - dshPls, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6Proper grammar and punctuation = fail.
- UnstableMind, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3We're to preoccupied with our lives, which is why we elect representatives to take care of the politics and government for us.....At least, that's how it's supposed to work. I have to feed my family, I can't risk being thrown in jail, maybe if I didn't have a family to worry about, I would be out there.
I am doing what I can though, I am building a site that promotes political awareness, locally and federally so that people become informed, currently I have built a local news site for my community similiar to digg and powered by pligg. For those interested, see http://www.skyfinet.com. Also, I'm still focusing on the name of my new site, which is why it is currently inaccessible. -
