- thelastczarnian, on 01/31/2008, -15/+87Why the hell do newspapers endorse candidates, it destroys their credibility. So now I suppose all articles by NY Post can be presumed in favor of Obama
- morningmatters, on 01/31/2008, -3/+64This is strange since NYPOST, owned by Rupert Murdoch, is one of the most conservative tabloids in the US. I guess many conservatives are disappointed at their own team for 2008.
- Fox318, on 01/31/2008, -0/+27Rupert Murdoch has also ran fundraisers for Clinton in the past as well.
- inactive, on 01/31/2008, -1/+28In 1983 the mass media was owned by 50 corporations, it is now down to 5.... Their opinions mean ***** to me... But you are correct, the media has no business endorcing a candidate.... They can.... But it comes off as an agenda. When you think about it, it is not the employees that all support him, it comes down to 1 or a few in control of that paper.
- zioxide, on 01/31/2008, -4/+28You ask "What am I missing here?" You're missing the facts.
"Obama will immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq. He will remove one to two combat brigades each month, and have all of our combat brigades out of Iraq within 16 months."

If you actually did some ***** research instead of just spouting ***** that you heard, you might learn something.

If you want to know everything in explicit details, go pick up a copy of The Audacity of Hope. - thefirstenemy, on 01/31/2008, -1/+23Isn't Judicial Watch a Republican organization?
- deadowl, on 01/31/2008, -1/+22Murdoch has publicly supported Clinton, and Obama has actively boycotted FOX News.
i.e. I don't see any sense in this endorsement unless it's a lame attempt at pandering to a candidate. - RansomHoldiay, on 01/31/2008, -1/+20really? more than any 10 members of the bush administration, let alone any one else in the american political system? i have my doubts.
- lhbaker, on 01/31/2008, -8/+25Obama is a rock star, and the rest of them know it. He's got the mojo to take it all the way.
- Lionhart, on 01/31/2008, -0/+16They endorse a candidate for each party, just like the NY Times did.
- sgtbutterscotch, on 01/31/2008, -3/+19It doesn't destroy their credibility if nobody else thinks it does.
- MacEnvy, on 01/31/2008, -6/+21Yeah, that's been working out great for him so far.
- ShadowMagic, on 01/31/2008, -0/+15its probably because conservative new yorkers hate clinton more than anything. As a new yorker i'd rather see ANYONE over Clinton
- shark72, on 01/31/2008, -0/+12This isn't so much of an Obama endorsement as a plea to vote against Clinton. Seems like they're in the "anybody but Clinton" camp.
- carnagejoe, on 01/31/2008, -1/+13It called an editorial. All newspapers have editorials. Does that mean all reporting is now slanted in favour of Obama, hell no, newspapers will write what sells.
I'm more surprised that a Murdoch rag like the Post would support Obama, I thought that Hillary had Murdoch's backing. Reverse psycology maybe? - echolyean, on 01/31/2008, -0/+10Yeah... but really, they're "non-partisan"... honestly...
- jfdolier, on 01/31/2008, -3/+13The other one was dugg just after this one, get your facts straight...
- consonance, on 01/31/2008, -0/+9Are you retarded or something? The NY Post has the freedom of the press. Coincidentally, ALL newspapers in the US do.
- MacEnvy, on 01/31/2008, -2/+10The first step toward confronting the past is unifying the nation in the present to work toward the future. That's the promise of Obama, and that's why I believe in him. I don't want a baby step - I want a great big ***** step that coincides with focused bipartisanship and a renewal in the belief that America is a great nation with a great future. The ONLY candidate who can provide all of those things is Barack Obama in my opinion.
- inactive, on 01/31/2008, -3/+11Spoken like someone who is sad that no one cares about his candidate. Who will YOu endorse next week when Ron Paul is gone?
- lhbaker, on 01/31/2008, -2/+10We can't just walk out, as much as we'd like to. Colin Powell described the US as a bull in a china shop; we broke it, now we have to fix it.
- salinemist, on 01/31/2008, -0/+8Since I don't think for myself I wouldn't know what to do without all of these endorsements!
- pintomp3, on 01/31/2008, -2/+9you do realize that ron paul would further deregulate media ownership, right? reagan and clinton deregulated and it went from 50 to 5. the fcc is trying to make it so they can own multiple formats in the same market also. news and information being run on a profit system kills objectivity and honest reporting, especially if it is owned by companies that make money from military contracts. tired of the corporate media and lack of journalism? don't support someone who would make it worse.
- morningmatters, on 01/31/2008, -0/+6I am not sure if you are in a good position to judge how stupid others look..
http://64.191.203.30/odd_stuff/Bingobongony_Trolls ... - Bostocks, on 01/31/2008, -1/+7Thank you. I get tired of people claiming that Obama is all talk.. he (and everyone else) has written down a comprehensive plan for the economy and the war... it's not his fault that everyone is too lazy to read a few pages instead of just watching the 5 minute news loop on cnn.
- donsnyc, on 01/31/2008, -0/+6Yikes! I hope Obama can survive this "endorsement" coming from the NYPost.
- mochaman, on 01/31/2008, -3/+9Rupert Murdoch is first and foremost a businessman, ideology comes second i.e., if there is any political ideology (After all this is the man who supports Chinese policies for the sake of doing business in China regardless of human rights). When it comes to media business it is not about right or left ideology it is much more complicated. After the departure of the Bush administration he has go to find a way to have access to government and in order to forge ahead with his business.
My point is that this moves is to hedge his bets, it seems to me that he is worry not having access to Obama and surely this is to score browny points. - Pake, on 01/31/2008, -3/+9Gee, I wonder who you support... could it be Ron Paul? /checks profile.
Yup, Ron Paul, go figure. You guys are destroying any credibility that Ron Paul has by constantly attacking people. - fuzzmeister, on 01/31/2008, -0/+6Now that we're mere days away from Super Tuesday, articles related to the primary are bound to be extremely popular.
- rudy23, on 01/31/2008, -0/+5NYPOST is the tabloid version of fox news. but you have to give it to them thats the posts very entertaining to read.
- theuniversal, on 01/31/2008, -0/+5"He claims to have been against Iraq from the beginning"
He doesn't claim to have been against it. He was against it - clearly and strongly. Go back and listen to his speeches and read the news stories.
But Obama is also PRAGMATIC. He doesn't want to pull the troops out in a week because he understands there are serious downsides to that for the US and Iraq. His line "We have to be as careful getting out as we were careless going in" sums it up perfectly. Personally, I think pragmatism in a leader is a good thing. - pintomp3, on 01/31/2008, -0/+5he did speak at an AIPAC conference, where he got booed for daring to mention the suffering of the palestinian people. relative to most of the other candidates, he is less of an AIPAC shill.
http://www.thenation.com/blogs/notion?pid=175173 - Ajajadude, on 01/31/2008, -0/+5Interesting. It doesn't load.
- fmaxwell, on 01/31/2008, -0/+5The reason that it matters to many voters is because they take advice from sources that they trust. That's why publications like Consumer Reports are so important to consumers. It's why an "endorsement" from Car & Driver will result in increased sales of a given car/truck.
Many journalists (and I'm not claiming that the NY Post actually has anyone deserving of that title) spend their lives reporting on important political figures, bills, races, etc. Fellow Senators and Representatives are in unique positions to learn more about a candidate than the average man on the street is. Just as you would value opinion of a professional chef when choosing cookware, you might value the opinion of a political journalist when deciding which candidate to vote for.
The reason why people care about endorsements from celebrities like Chuck Norris and Sylvester Stallone is because those people are dimwitted and illogical. But don't paint with so wide a brush that you include those idiots with people making rational decisions. - stringerbell, on 01/31/2008, -1/+6Wow, if that's how they give an endorsement, I'd hate to see what they say about a candidate they hate...
- goomba323, on 01/31/2008, -0/+5Hillary Number 1...surprise surprise.
- Kogut, on 01/31/2008, -0/+4I have never heard of anyone reading a newspaper because the news sucks in content.
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -0/+4Chill out.
- inactive, on 01/31/2008, -1/+5Grouchy because no one is endorsing Paul?
- zioxide, on 01/31/2008, -1/+5Why is there a cut in the video between the question and Obama's response? It's pretty easy to edit video in order to make his message seem different than what he actually said.
Also, from his website: "Obama will make it clear that we will not build any permanent bases in Iraq. He will keep some troops in Iraq to protect our embassy and diplomats; if al Qaeda attempts to build a base within Iraq, he will keep troops in Iraq or elsewhere in the region to carry out targeted strikes on al Qaeda." - consonance, on 01/31/2008, -1/+5[citation needed]
- npa100, on 01/31/2008, -0/+4yeah nice endorsement - a page of why the Post hates the Clintons, concluding with; "Again, we don't agree much with Obama on substantive issues. But many Democrats will. He should be their choice on Tuesday"
- inactive, on 01/31/2008, -1/+4Ever since he got a hold it it it has grown faster than any other NY newspaper....what absolute ***** that is.
- RainNIU, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3"Obama was also nabbed conducting campaign business in his Senate office, a violation of federal law."
Wow, they should lock him up and throw away the key. This crime is of the most heinous and intolerable. Please... - Mesmorize, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3The NY Times endorsed Hillary, this is not something special.
- arbouler, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3huh, i'm all about obama, but i thought that article was hardly convincing...i wish they could elaborate more...
- boonesfarm, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3Or maybe somebody (a Post editor) works indirectly for Murdoch and ran their own piece. Jesus, you guys and your Fox DeathStar mentality.
- pintomp3, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3if you want to see which candidates are more in pockets of the israel lobby, check this page:
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/pages/rosnerPage.jhtm ...
*they don't even bother listing kucinich, gravel, or paul. it's obvious they don't support them. - hannahmar, on 06/11/2009, -0/+3replied to wrong person... dammit.
- inactive, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3Am I the only one who thought the headline read something about Obama being tenderized?
