- okayokayokay, on 09/30/2008, -12/+187Asked about Herritage's statement, Palin's foreign policy adviser, Steve Biegun, insisted the candidate's position was correct. "Russia's 'old behaviors' of aggressively flying into U.S. airspace have been exhibited recently," he said. "Governor Palin told me that when Russian aircraft buzz American airspace and U.S. aircraft are mobilized at Elmendorf Air Force Base, she is informed by her National Guard commander," said Biegun, who did not offer any additional explanation for the contradiction.
WTF? I am beyond angry now. I'm F*CKING AFRAID.
These people CANNOT be allowed in the White House. - oldgraygeek, on 10/01/2008, -8/+122Those Commies ARE flying around... in her empty head.
Plenty of room in there, even for the biggest Bolshevik bombers. - avataros, on 10/01/2008, -3/+69Why worry when she can shoot at them with her high-powered hunting rifle from a cessna?
- Needles13, on 10/01/2008, -4/+60I don't think she's trying to lie, she's just an idiot.
- whahaa, on 10/01/2008, -2/+53obviously NORAD has a liberal bias and uses the same gotcha sound-byte charades as the rest of the elitist media.
- AceyS, on 10/01/2008, -1/+51Buried as inaccurate. It's a little publicized fact, but John McCain was actually a prisoner of war for 5 and a half years and is unable to lift his arms as high as he is in the picture of him playing airplane.
- IrishJoe, on 10/01/2008, -5/+54But she's keepin' an eye out for Putin rearing his head into Alaskan airspace.
- virtualval2001, on 10/01/2008, -4/+51:/
What the hell is she doing?!! Does she even know? Please tell me when this whole circus is over. - kelstock, on 10/01/2008, -2/+46Palin dodges Russian bomber fire... McCain spokesman: 'she has combat experience'
- inactive, on 10/01/2008, -6/+41she's not lying - she's D-U-M 'dumb'
- thaprinze, on 10/01/2008, -2/+36"Why does she keep lying?"
I don't know, but I'll try to find out and get back to ya. - swrostmore, on 10/01/2008, -3/+30"As Putin rears his head and comes into the airspace of the United States of America, where do they go? It’s Alaska!" -Sarah Palin
http://www.mceades.com/graphics/PutinAlaska.jpg - kelstock, on 10/01/2008, -6/+33"Why does she hate our military so much she doesn't know the first thing about it?" Give me a break... for ***** sake, her own kid is serving in Iraq. That sentence insults the intelligence of the reader, and detracts from the valid point that Palin is not fit for office.
- BradHAWK, on 10/01/2008, -0/+27I think most people know that, but Palin said INTO U.S. airspace.
- yensed, on 10/01/2008, -0/+24Please someone find a full-res version of that picture.
- publiclurker, on 10/01/2008, -2/+26The world is round! Not flying towards us would kind of limit their possible directions.
- mrsteveman1, on 10/01/2008, -1/+24A better candidate, too I'm sure.
FEY '08! - Pinkertinkle, on 10/01/2008, -3/+23But she read ALL the newspapers! She certainly knows more than us.
- jayzfans, on 10/01/2008, -2/+22stop the drama, vote obama.
- bigspooon, on 10/01/2008, -1/+20So, i've read the article from the daily kos and your article from the washington times. here are the facts as they were reported:
1) Palin claims that Russian planes have flown into American airspace.
2) the daily kos quotes a NORAD official who says no Russian planes have flown into American airspace in recent years.
3) the washington post quotes a base spokesman from Elmendorf air force base (headquarters for the Alaskan region of NORAD) who says that Russian planes have flown in a 12-mile air defense identification zone that skirts American airspace.
Verdict: Palin is technically incorrect but it can be seen that air force bases in Alaska have had to deal with Russian planes in recent times (albeit not in our airspace). - damndj, on 10/01/2008, -0/+19What is Palin's role in this? Oh, zero!
How many times have they actually entered Alaskan Airspace? Oh, never!
Fail. - roxgod666, on 10/01/2008, -2/+21Get your Tivos/VCRs set for debate night. It will be a historic night that i will pass on to my kids so they will be able to witness some of the greatest comedy in a lifetime.
- Hillsfar, on 10/01/2008, -2/+20Please help us, my fellow Americans! I beg of you! Have some mercy!
Help us keep Sarah Palin where she's always been - 3,500 miles from the briefcase with the launch codes!! - robopuppy, on 10/01/2008, -1/+19Umm, no, she didn't mean fly right to the edge. IN, as in, into the airspace. As in, they enter the airspace. What I'm trying to say is that she meant into the airspace of the United States.
Let me make this perfectly clear:
"...into the airspace of the United States of America, where - where do they go? It's Alaska"
I mean, c'mon man, really? Really? I'll give you another try on that one. - jburn34, on 10/01/2008, -2/+20What about this source: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/jun/26/ru ...
"U.S. Northern Command, which protects North American airspace, told The Washington Times that TU-95 Bear bombers on 18 occasions the past year have skirted a 12-mile air defense identification zone that protects Alaska. The incursions prompted F-15s and F-22 Raptor fighters to scramble from Elmendorf Air Force Base and intercept the warplanes. The last incident happened in May." - chaosium, on 10/01/2008, -5/+23"her own kid is serving in Iraq"
To avoid jailtime. - algaeturd, on 10/01/2008, -2/+17I love how all the common people have to 'clarify' her comments for the rest of us.
"Ma'am, can I get a Palin interpreter in here? The debates are about to start and I want to understand what she's saying to the American people." - jtbell04, on 10/01/2008, -5/+19It's all there, black and white, clear as crystal! You LOSE! Good DAY ma'am!
- dupswapdrop, on 10/01/2008, -4/+17So she stands on the shore in her bikini protecting us from the Russian menace?
- glockops, on 10/01/2008, -0/+12http://s324.photobucket.com/albums/k330/mavoter/?a ...
- Hillsfar, on 10/01/2008, -1/+13She isn't even allowed to command the AK National Guard when they're deployed for national security reasons - only to help with disasters and local issues like the police or firefighters do. And even then, she's delegated all day-to-day operations and life-and-death emergency rapid responses to Maj. Gen. Craig Campbell per Campbell's own words.
- Sornos, on 10/01/2008, -2/+14Way to stereotype there buddy. You see one POW being a jackass and using his past as a bullet point on his agenda and you assume all of them do?
War is not a video game. Sometimes you can do everything right and still get ***** up. - boyghost, on 10/01/2008, -2/+14Just cause I walk towards a girl doesn't make it rape. I'd actually have to enter her "space".
- robopuppy, on 10/01/2008, -1/+13I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming you're being sarcastic and also can't write in english very well, but if you aren't, let me know so I can digg you down.
- Tzen, on 10/01/2008, -6/+17I agree she's not the best choice for VP.
FYI, more and more American and Canadian fighter jets are intercepting Russian bombers flying off the Alaskan coast. The Russian bombers may not be flying over Alaska, but they are probing our defense.
Google "russian intercept alaska" - bjornski, on 10/01/2008, -0/+11Sarah does too, but it's not intentional.
- Pimptastic, on 10/01/2008, -4/+15Of course NORAD is going to say that there are no incursions into our airspace. Though to be fair the Russians have been pretty good about just flying along over international waters.
- bigspooon, on 10/01/2008, -0/+11spin is a beautiful thing...
if you tell a lie long enough, it eventually becomes accepted as the truth - MrBogard, on 10/01/2008, -0/+11Cuter too.
- inactive, on 10/01/2008, -1/+12Palin is not just 'technically' incorrect.
She is WRONG.
Go on, admit it. You'll feel so much better. Think about all those lies, the desperate clinging to your fading beliefs, in light of the ever-more-obvious truth, the weight of all that deception, finally off your chest. - infinityredux, on 10/01/2008, -13/+23Nev 'er? I barely know 'er!
- jayzfans, on 10/01/2008, -0/+9Who are you and NORAD to argue with her?
For your information, Gov. Palin, using her glasses has been spying on the Russians and has been gathering intelligence that even NORAD does not posses. One look in the right direction, and all the secrets in any area of the world are disclosed using those glasses. Why do you think McCain picked her?
Stop the drama, vote Obama. - tylermenezes, on 10/01/2008, -5/+14I don't think she's lying. She's just really, really dumb.
LEAVE SARAH PALIN ALONE!!! - keepinithamsta, on 10/01/2008, -1/+10I'm moving to Spain, if you vote for McCain.
- algaeturd, on 10/01/2008, -1/+10Thank you, thank you, thank you...for perfectly illustrating just how uneducated and ignorant Palin supporters are. The depths of their stupidity knows no bounds and you've done an amazing job at making that known to all.
- virtualval2001, on 10/01/2008, -1/+10That's NORAD which is run by the department of defense. It's an entity of the USAF, not the Alaska National Guard.
Please get your facts straight. She's got nothing to do with it. The base is a part of the United States Air Force. She doesn't run it. If they spot planes they aren't going to tell her about it first, I'll tell you that.
How do I know? I just retired from the Air Force in December 07. And I wasn't a cook either, I work Air Traffic and Air Space as part of Western Area Defense in WA. I still do it as a Department of Defense Civilian now.
She certainly stretched the truth on this one. - ShaneinNY, on 10/01/2008, -3/+12It's hilarious that the members of the 101st Fighting Keyboardists here feel they're more qualified than the Major quoted in the report to decide of what a violation of American airspace consists. As the writer of the story I'll put the quote here, again:
"To be very clear, there has not been any incursion in U.S. airspace in recent years," Herritage said.
Palin claimed there had been. She was wrong and her spokesman from the McCain campaign repeated the lie. Why do Republicans lie so much? The 101st Fighting Keyboardists are sounding a bit panicked. Perhaps they've seen the polls. - Ganpachi, on 10/01/2008, -0/+9I think she was actually confusing Red Dawn with actual historical record. I hope.
GO WOLVERINES!!!! - quisph, on 10/01/2008, -0/+9Your brain must be failin' if you vote for Palin.
