- SeeingtheLight, on 09/29/2008, -0/+1It wasn't until this election season that I ever heard about any opposition between American Blacks and Hispanic/Latino peoples. Personally, I've never experienced it.
However, I must remark on this paragraph:
"In that interview, he said older Hispanics would not support Obama "primarily because there is a strong feeling that African Americans during the civil rights movement took advantage, full advantage, of all the benefits and programs that the government offered, that were supposed to be offered to all minorities. But we were left behind, we were left sucking air, and we resented that ever since the '60s, and I don't see how a black president is going to change that.'"
In films of the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s, it was Black people getting attacked and beaten by mobs and police. It was Black people being mauled by dogs. It was Black people being assaulted by hoses.
The signs on many establishments read "No Blacks Allowed." Signs on water fountains read "No Blacks."
Therefore, I hope people vote on the issues that matter to them most. And I hope they vote for the person who will most likely institute the legislation that supports the issues that matter to them most. I hope they do not allow media perpetuated divisiveness/PROPOGANDA to continue to breed hate.
