- GMoney79, on 10/14/2007, -26/+224I take back every Alabama joke I've ever told.
- phaseblue, on 10/10/2007, -48/+190NEWS FLASH!: People hate stupid headlines with things like "NEWS FLASH" in them.
- RagnerD, on 10/10/2007, -22/+103I love Ron Paul but winning with only 266 ballots cast it isn't anything to get too excited about. With that said I do think that Romney will have serious issues gaining the southern vote.
- darkcooger, on 10/10/2007, -11/+57Of the 266 votes cast, he got 216. Romney got 14. Yes, it was a wide margin.
- Spentlife, on 10/10/2007, -6/+51He wins Nh too... http://blog.ronpaul2008.com/ron_paul_2008/2007/08/ron-paul-also-w.html
- NoOneButMe, on 10/10/2007, -23/+67It's 266 people. There's 4.5 million people in Alabama. that's 0.0000591111111111% of the people that voted in a poll that doesnt matter.
- gotamd, on 10/10/2007, -8/+50He got over 80% of the 266 votes. That's a *huge* margin.
- luther70, on 10/10/2007, -11/+43The last person to win the Alabama straw poll was Alan Keyes. Nice to see Ron Paul is in similar company.
- keyboardduder, on 10/10/2007, -14/+46If Paul gets the media's attention, he will win the republican ticket. But Gulianni is blasting so much money into making himself look clean and spending so much money for press, he will get the ticket unless people even know who ron is. The main issue is that all the democratic citizens havent heard of ron, I would guarantee if they didnt care so much about those ***** values and more about their country, most of them would change parties just to vote for paul. I would.
- OneAndOnlySnob, on 10/10/2007, -6/+3581.2% of the votes with 9 candidates is a HUGE margin. Second place had 5.3%. Ron Paul beat Mitt Romney (2nd) by 75.9%. That's not spin. That's called a landslide victory.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+27 Paul has the medias attention, they spend considerable energy figuring out how not to report on him or slant his coverage.
- BarleyWind, on 10/10/2007, -15/+41Ron Paul loves his cat far more than any of the other candidates love their pets, why is the mainstream media ignoring the fact that Ron Paul loves his pets more than anyone else?
- Skip742, on 10/10/2007, -12/+37Yeah? You think that's no big deal? How are the rest of the anti-war candidates doing in the deep South?
- HowieHardcore, on 10/10/2007, -7/+32Here's a link: http://www.tuscaloosanews.com/article/20070818/LATEST/70818015
- kethraal, on 10/10/2007, -5/+28At this point, it's more a matter of pride rather than anything else.
Ron Paul is a _true_ conservative -- against the massive, all-controlling, corrupt government that America has today. Since (more or less) the only people left in the system are corrupt, all-controlling and (if Ted Kennedy is any indication) massive, neither side likes him. The Republicans don't like him since he's against their level of interference (and thus against their thirst for power), and the Democrats don't like him because (if he were the Republican ticket) he could provide some serious opposition.
At this point, it's a matter of pride -- can the Republicans give up their greed, corruption, and thirst for power in order to win. If they can, they'll back Paul, and win. If they can't they'll put up Guiliani (or worse), and lose. - dstntmbrk, on 10/10/2007, -4/+27I was there. The entire auditorium was packed with Ron Paul supporters. There was table with the Romney folks- 14 total according to the vote count. Ron Paul killed it with 80 %.
- dmjarrington, on 10/10/2007, -5/+28Yes, but that's the whole point... The opposition didn't have the ability to get together enough supporters to beat us... and we aren't that many... It just shows that those other guys aren't as popular as everyone thinks they are. The truth is that this race is just beginning. Ron Paul supporters have more heart than any other group of volunteers for any other candidate so far. Just you wait and see what we can do.
- omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22Bizarro, wtf was that comment even for? Rangner said "winning with 266 ballots cast", which you responded with "it was out of a total of 266 ballots". What confuses the ***** out of me is that you got dugg up for it.
- Spentlife, on 10/10/2007, -4/+24I think every win RP gets is one step forward, and why it should make news, because he is fighting for democracy and against the Fiat monetary system. What is money... question that should concern everyone.. why there is inflation... who wins ?

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-9050474362583451279 - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21Mitt Romney believes whatever will serve him to amass a little more power or money. He is a man motivated by one human characteistic: ambition. Nothing else matters to Mitt
- HowieHardcore, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18I believe Ron Paul has said he would abolish the IRS and try to rescind the Income Tax amendment. That's not all taxes though. You still have State income taxes, property tax, tolls, Social Security, car registration, etc. The income tax you pay is unecessary for government to run and is an instrument to redistribute wealth.
- obliviousfool, on 10/10/2007, -6/+22Giuliani? I doubt it. He has too many chinks in his armor. That fact is the reason we're hearing so much about Romney. Also, my guess is the real neo-con candidate is Hillary. She has the most money from Bush's former donors. She also appears to be wearing a pantsuit made of Teflon. No bad press seems to stick. If she has the corporate media on her side, she's a neo-con.
- BowieX, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17@ Brandon.
From what I understand, other candidates were welcome to inform their supporters of the poll, who in turn were allowed to vote. - TheRedNewt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15It might not be representative of popular opinion, but it is representative of whose supporters are more active at least here in Alabama.
- WilliamDavis, on 10/10/2007, -3/+18Of course it's not a representative sample. If Romney won, it would be news though. With Paul winning, it will get no mention.
- dmjarrington, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15if you understood the tax system you'd be on our side.
- frostieDude, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16Southern Baptists say "OYE VEY" now?
- logandurand, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16You make a good point, but you need to take into account that many of the regulations and programs intended to protect consumers actually end up being used against them. Because our government (at least as it exists today) has little or no accountability, it is easy for monopolistic corporations to pay politicians to vote for bills that appear to help consumers, but hurt them. For example, many health care programs are simply blank checks the government writes to insurance companies. Personally, I feel that monopolization is the result of too much government, not too little.
Also, I feel compelled to point out that it is not the role of government to prevent monopolies. As long as corporations conduct their business legally, they can be as big as they want to. - WhiteIce89, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14NEWS FLASH! - A safe alternative to BREAKING
- 0zzy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Just means Ron Paul's supporters are activist and follow the political scene very closely. Maybe the people won't "know about" the primaries? :-p
- alacarde, on 10/10/2007, -5/+17Sweet Home Alabama
- arshort, on 10/10/2007, -5/+17The Bryant Conference center is basically on the campus of the University of Alabama. I imagine the majority of those that showed up were college students.

- matador3, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14Or maybe he's in all of the straw polls like every other candidate and they turn out which ever way they do. Do you think before you post?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -36/+48WTF? as of this posting the site doesn't even cite a source. They could have made this up for all I know.
Buried as Inaccurate - Spentlife, on 10/10/2007, -13/+25At least it shows how many people are concerned about the future of America...
Ron Paul is against the corporations printing money (Banks : Federal reserve)
Interest on money from thin air? By what right, certainly not from the constitution.
Today we all live in a monetary system based on Debt...
Some educational video : http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-9050474362583451279 - GliTCH82, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13He opposes the federal government having a say either way, believing it is for the states to decide. You know what, I totally agree. If you don't like your state, move. If you want to have all of these social laws uniform for all states at the federal level, then what the ***** is the point of having states to begin with?
- diggSJaustin, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15Yeah, the commoners definitely need a citation.

10+ pages of nothing but Ron Paul stories. Thanks for the quality content! - bryanedds, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14Socialists and Neocons VS Ron Paul
While thousands of children die in Iraq and Afghanistan, socialists and neocons talk about Ron Paul not choosing to fund stem cell research at the federal level.
While the President gets all the power he wants to spy on and kidnap any innocent americans indefinitely, socialists and neocons talk about how Ron Paul's supporters spam the intarwebs.
While the American economy implodes a little further with the boom / bust cycle created by the Federal Reserve, socialists and neocons talk about how Ron Paul can't win.
While the American Consitution and the people's rights are utterly destroyed, socialists and neocons talk about how Ron Paul message of individual liberty is "anachronistic".
While people suffer without healthcare because of government intervention in the market, socialists and neocons talk about Ron Paul's ghost writer of more than a decade ago.
While the Bush administration along with the Democrats in Congress plot to drop nuclear weapons on Iran, socialists and neocons spin every great Ron Paul victory to be failure.
While Ron Paul educates America on economics and freedom, neocons and socialists spread Marxist and Keynesian myths that undermine freedom.
While Ron Paul continues to win the fight against lies and liars, neocons and socialists redouble their efforts to no effect whatsoever. - GoodAthiest, on 10/10/2007, -10/+21Awesome news. Anyone have a link to a credible source?
- j.carcinogen, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Yeah people went for the more charismatic guy that promised his constituents more entitlements. Obama is a CFR candidate just like the Bush's, Clinton, Giuliani, and Romney.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Council_on_Foreign_Relations - pittpat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11I live here in Tuscaloosa where the straw poll was done, and there have been "Ron Paul Revolution" banners around town for about week and a half. Probably done because the poll was coming up but at least no one has taken them down either!
- knelto, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11I was thinking about making a site for Ron Paul pushing for a write-in vote if he didn't get the Republican nomination. Naturally, I searched Google to see if anyone had a site about it first. Apparently someone beat me to it.
Beware, it's just about as bad as Myspace. http://www.writeinronpaul.com - emjaymj, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Abortion isn't a libertarian issue jackass. Some libertarians wish to protect the right of the fetus to live, while others wish to protect the right of the woman to choose. This issue is not about giving and taking rights. The issue is really about whether or not the fetus should be extended the same rights that we expect for every other human.
Somebody pro-life could be just as myopic as you and say, "if he's libertarian, why does he support stripping the unborn of their rights?" I'm kind of pro-choice leaning but my god, your whole presumption seems to be a major flaw in the argument of most pro-choicers. How can you win an argument when you obviously don't even really know what you're arguing about? I'm seriously beginning to rethink my stance because of the sheer inaneness of people like you. - Sukrillux, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12You may hate the NEWS FLASH thing, but this time it was in the source article... So, I give it a pass. Way to go, Ron! Freedom IS popular!
