And the establishment is a threat to the African American community. It's nice that he recognized that.
What the establishment has done to these fine people is criminal. It was the deliberate destruction of an entire class of people.
Three cheers for Mr Linder! - Meiun, on 01/13/2008, -5/+137Ron Paul is the most outstanding voice of our time. His clear and consistent message of freedom, peace and prosperity is one that can be shared by EVERY American regardless of race, creed, religion, or gender. Please support the next President of the United States; RON PAUL!
- spartacus409, on 01/14/2008, -4/+84Did you know when it came to giving Rosa Parks a medal, Ron Paul stood up in Congress, took a hundred dollar bill out of his pocket and put it on the table? He dared all of the congressmen to match him so that they could give Rosa Parks a medal. Not one person matched him.
They did however steal YOUR money for the medal. What does that tell you about the rest of congress's commitment? Not enough to spend a dime of their own money for the medal. - caplist, on 01/14/2008, -5/+75Ron Paul on Racism, actually written by him...
A nation that once prided itself on a sense of rugged individualism has become uncomfortably obsessed with racial group identities.
The collectivist mindset is at the heart of racism.
Government as an institution is particularly ill-suited to combat bigotry. Bigotry at its essence is a problem of the heart, and we cannot change people's hearts by passing more laws and regulations.
It is the federal government that most divides us by race, class, religion, and gender. Through its taxes, restrictive regulations, corporate subsidies, racial set-asides, and welfare programs, government plays far too large a role in determining who succeeds and who fails. Government "benevolence" crowds out genuine goodwill by institutionalizing group thinking, thus making each group suspicious that others are receiving more of the government loot. This leads to resentment and hostility among us.
Racism is simply an ugly form of collectivism, the mindset that views humans strictly as members of groups rather than as individuals. Racists believe that all individuals who share superficial physical characteristics are alike: as collectivists, racists think only in terms of groups. By encouraging Americans to adopt a group mentality, the advocates of so-called "diversity" actually perpetuate racism.
The true antidote to racism is liberty. Liberty means having a limited, constitutional government devoted to the protection of individual rights rather than group claims. Liberty means free-market capitalism, which rewards individual achievement and competence - not skin color, gender, or ethnicity.
In a free society, every citizen gains a sense of himself as an individual, rather than developing a group or victim mentality. This leads to a sense of individual responsibility and personal pride, making skin color irrelevant. Racism will endure until we stop thinking in terms of groups and begin thinking in terms of individual liberty. - skotoseme, on 01/14/2008, -6/+74If Ron Paul is a racist, why would he be friends with a president of the NAACP??????
This is so obviously a smear on Ron Paul and no amount of facts or evidence will convince the haters of Ron Paul. - webifram, on 01/13/2008, -8/+67Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would have been our greatest President if he had not been assassinated. Dr. King and Dr. Ron Paul are actually similar candidates in that their antiwar views threaten the Establishment and this has led to attacks by the powers that be. Thank you Nelson Linder! Please, everyone, read Dr. William F. Pepper's book "An Act of State" and read the trial MLK assassination trial transcripts on the King Center website.
- skydrummer47, on 01/14/2008, -3/+61Mr. Linder, we appreciate your candor and integrity. Thank you for speaking out.
- alittlebrookie, on 01/14/2008, -6/+61Paul had multiple newsletters out under his name and did not write those comments. Anyone who knows Dr. Paul knows this is not his character and no one has come forward with any evidence of him making such claims in public. After all he's been in the public eye for quite some time now.
It's all smear and the establishment is scared, just as Mr. Linder stated. - spartacus409, on 01/14/2008, -5/+52What would have been funny, but it's tool late now for Mr Linder to have called up FOX news and tell them he wanted to go on air to discuss Dr Paul's racism. I imagine the FOX crew would risked whiplash injury getting him first class plane tickets to NY only to have Linder tell the truth. I would have given anything to see the looks on the faces...
- spartacus409, on 01/14/2008, -6/+51 Ron Paul also wants to put an end to the racist drug war. We all know that when it comes to drug arrests, the sentences and even the arrests are not meted out proportionately. If you are a cocaine sniffer you can get to be President as long as your are rich and white. If you are poor and black you'll get 40 year sentence. Ron Paul wants to end all of that.
The drug war is working no better than prohibition and it has taken away most of our civil liberties and has impacted minorities worst of all. Know any other candidate that really cares about the races and really wants to do something to help or are they all talk? - nalicosh, on 01/14/2008, -6/+42Don't forget to donate on MLKjr.'s birthday! - spartacus409, on 01/14/2008, -5/+40I am sure the NAACP president would thank you for being such a dedicated defender against racism and appreciated you being a spokesman for their cause.
Idiot. - Russellk30, on 01/14/2008, -7/+40Did Ron Paul piss you off or something? Are you his illegitimate Son that he refused to acknowledge? Did he call your mom fat? What is it man? You never say anything of substance and most of your comments are at best mostly illogical. I'm going to guess one of three things. Either you are a socialist, are on the payroll of Dr. Evil, or are just ***** crazy. Maybe a combination of the three?
- 2trkpony, on 01/14/2008, -4/+36"Linder says Paul being smeared because he is a threat to the establishment"
Amen. That says it all.
These dubiously negative self-effacing shills who have so much free time on their hands to fabricate their pathetic ineffective 'smear campaigns' on the good Dr Paul are getting desperate. The 'racism' card is a desperate last-grab. All they have time for is bitching and complaining about other candidates, its no wonder that they do nothing positive for their own candidate, and no other candidate has the worldwide grassroots support of Ron Paul.
The pro-war fascism pimp shills are frightened, scared to proclaim who they support, they won't stand up for their candidate, yet they jump at the opportunity to trash & smear others choice. This speaks volumes of their insecurity.
The shills have a problem with others "classifying" people yet they spare no hesitation themselves labeling, name-calling, race-categorizing, stereotyping, insulting others they hate when it best suits them.
Ron Paul seeks to reduce government... your tax dollars are supporting (Entitlement Programs) (United Nations) (I.M.F.) (World Monetary Fund) (CFR) (Federal Reserve) (Internal Revenue Service) (C.I.A.) and (Policing the World) (Pakistan's president) (Israel) the dollar is destabilized due to organizations. Ron Paul will work to eliminate these wasteful programs. No other candidates, including Mitt, Rudy, or Hillary or Obama are proposing to do that. Nor would they ever DREAM of doing so since they're in too deep with the $crime syndicate$ that is the U.S. government. Ron Paul doesn't play ball with the criminals. So it's no surprise to see the clueless fascism pimp pundits in their childish attacks to undermine his message.
Ron Paul is the only candidate (aside from Dennis Kucinich) who isn't a 2 faced B.S. con-artist CFR sell-out Israel AIPAC shill he actually represents AMERICA and the AMERICAN PEOPLE, not 'big oil", the war-mongering military industrial complex, Israel Pakistan, Saudi Arabia like all the rest. What a concept! To have a Constitutionalist president, a true leader who actually cares about strengthening & improving *this country* here at home in the U.S.A. instead of pouring trillions of taxpayer dollars overseas, million dollar monthly handouts to Pakistan, 12 billion dollars per year giveaway to Israel, and policing, bombing the middle east like the rest of the criminals.
Look at Ron Paul's history of 20 years in the House. He has the most consistent voting record period. Bush did speak a lot of the same rhetoric, but Bush's history told a different story, and we were absolutely stupid to believe him. We aren't falling for that again.
"We are fast approaching the stage of the ultimate inversion: the stage where the government is free to do anything it pleases, while the citizens may act only by permission; which is the stage of the darkest periods of human history, the stage of rule by brute force." - Ayn Rand
Ron Paul FTW in '08 - 86thefed, on 01/14/2008, -4/+36Dr. Paul is the only Candidate up there discussing solutions to the racist war on drugs and all of government programs that promote socialism and collectivism. Dr. Paul is the only candidate bringing up the illegal war and Iraq and the drum beating of the coming war in Iran. Because of this he and his campaign are being outright attacked by the MSM and other bottom feeders.
The truth, in days like these, is a dangerous subject and those who hide in the dark behind the scenes are afraid of the the light of truth.
It's time for the people of America and the world to stand up together and take back what is rightly theirs. It's time for the power of government to be accountable to people not the people to their government.
Ron Paul 2008
Restore the Republic - jmhenderson, on 01/14/2008, -3/+33Takes a heck of alot of brainpower to figure this one out. Hmmmm Why would they allow him to compete when he threatens their very existence. Bet there are alot of people out there that would do ANYTHING to protect their lifestyle and to prevent having to join the middle lower class and actually getting a real job. Good on you Ron Paul and keep up the pressure. Its kinda cool to watch their foundation fall apart underneath their own feet. Lets ALL give them a taste of their own bitter medicine
- spartacus409, on 01/14/2008, -8/+36 Ron Paul also wants to put an end to the racist drug war. - skotoseme, on 01/14/2008, -5/+31OneTimer, you are a douche bag. Prove me wrong.
- inactive, on 01/14/2008, -4/+30When even the NAACP says he's not a racist it makes you wonder why the anti-freedom grouches cling to that and continue to post inane comments.
We all know that Ron Paul is the most educated candidate. We know Ron Paul has the most integrity. We know that the establishment and the media and the military industrail complex are against Ron Paul because he would eliminate their corporate welfare and unending wars.
It is a serious problem for them that Ron Paul has made it this far despite all of the roadblocks they have put in front of him. They have smeared him, excluded him, attempted to push him to the margin but the freedom train is bigger than Ron Paul and freedom loving Americans want him to succeed.
We should expect that some people will do anything to spew hate. We have seen it here on Digg and in the media and on the radio.
We have drug addicts on the radio who are critical of the stance of Ron Paul on the war on drugs yet when they were busted they didn't go to jail, they went to treatment. We have other Republicans calling him a kook and laughing at him but none were laughing when he pointed out they were not being true to the party platform. The anti-freedom grouches don't get it.
They think if they can tear down Ron Paul the freedom movement will die. It won't. It is too big. King George probably thought the same thing about those rabble rousers and peasants who dare to demand freedom. Those colonists were not to succeed he told his minions and he demanded that the leaders be brought to him in England. He thought that by stopping the head of the freedom movement in the colonies he could stop it.
That did not happen and we don't live in a kingdom.Even though Goerge Bush thinks he's a king, he's really a president and he must step down and we have a choice in this election to step up and demand our freedom.
It will happen whether Ron Paul is in the White House or not. - gandhi2, on 01/14/2008, -3/+29But that is not the point. You and others have been trying to defame Paul as a racist....really what you MEANT to say was that MLK Jr himself, a man championing civil rights and black freedom, could rise from the grave and denounce Rev. Jackson as a racist and Ron Paul as a champion, and you and your ilk would not accept the sentiment. Instead, you'd be more likely to attack the character of King, and start rumors of how King is a closet racist as well, for defending Paul.
Now that you cannot respond to the corroboration from a black man, a representative of the black people and a champion for civil rights, you resort to a different ad hominem, designed to attack his plausibility as a candidate. - purplechoe, on 01/14/2008, -3/+27I followed Ron Paul for the last 6 months and am convinced he's no racist. That's a standard smear done to the real conservatives like Reagan, Goldwater, and now Dr. Paul. It's a shame because Ron Paul actually understands the most important issues in and out. He actually has written books about about foreign policy and economic problems created by the federal reserve. But one quality which he has in spades is honesty. Dr. Paul is a statesman, not a politician.
- OnGard4Liberty, on 01/14/2008, -4/+28"I am a friend of the Free State Project. Check it out...and if you like it, join and continue the effort!" -- Rep. Ron Paul
http://www.freestateproject.org/intro/ron_paul - liberteebell, on 01/14/2008, -3/+27Thank you Mr. Linder. You're obviously a thinking man and someone who knows the truth about Dr. Paul.
What Dr. Paul has done for individual rights speaks much more loudly than some words written 20 years ago. His record speaks for itself. It is obvious to me that Dr. Paul is sorry for what was written in his name and he has taken moral responsibility for it. Are all the other candidates perfect? I'm sure if one searched long and hard enough, they could find some off-color things the others said somewhere in their past. In fact, mccain's burka remarks sounded just a tad racist to me. Oh yeah, I forgot; it's ok to bash arabs.
While it's certainly not something to be proud of, if this is all the dirt that can be dug up on a 72 year old man, it shows me that he does threaten the establishment. - gandhi2, on 01/14/2008, -3/+25You completely fail....you have no clue the political platform of MLK. MLK in his famed "I Have a Dream" speech recognized that the law did nothing to change the hearts of people:
"Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.
But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. One hundred years later, the Negro is still languishing in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land. So we have come here today to dramatize a shameful condition."
The very essence of that speech was the King ACHED for the hearts of people to change! The poignant message is not "I have a dream lawmakers will legislate tolerance," it was such a powerful HOPE that people's MINDS would be change on the topic of race!:
"I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."
I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.
I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."
The message is so powerful that so many people, not just African Americans, could see the truth of it! It wasn't about sedating the civil rights protestors, it wasn't about making gestures, it was then, as it is now, about truly letting the principles of freedom ring, not just paying lip service with legal actions, but seeking a way to promote equity in the hearts of the nation!"
"And when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"
MLK was against the war in Vietnam. He explains his reasoning in the speech titled "Beyond Vietnam: A Time To Break Silence." The views are remarkably similar to Pau's non-interventionist position of Iraq:
"*I would like to suggest five concrete things that our government should do immediately to begin the long and difficult process of extricating ourselves from this nightmarish conflict:
Number one: End all bombing in North and South Vietnam.
Number two: Declare a unilateral cease-fire in the hope that such action will create the atmosphere for negotiation.
Three: Take immediate steps to prevent other battlegrounds in Southeast Asia by curtailing our military buildup in Thailand and our interference in Laos.
Four: Realistically accept the fact that the National Liberation Front has substantial support in South Vietnam and must thereby play a role in any meaningful negotiations and any future Vietnam government.
Five: Set a date that we will remove all foreign troops from Vietnam in accordance with the 1954 Geneva Agreement."
What's he saying? Stop aggressive military actions. Cease fire so that diplomacy can be accomplished. Stop building bases and deploying troops into the region to prevent tangental conflicts. Recognize the will of the populous by working diplomatically with the existing freedom-fighters. Set a date for complete withdrawal.
He goes on in the same speech to reject our policy of being world police. Rather than acting as good Samaritans, we needed then, as we need now, to stop creating victims, by providing aide to corrupt foreign powers, and to stop creating dictators, by training and supplying enemies of our enemies:
" A true revolution of values will soon cause us to question the fairness and justice of many of our past and present policies. On the one hand, we are called to play the Good Samaritan on life's roadside, but that will be only an initial act. One day we must come to see that the whole Jericho Road must be transformed so that men and women will not be constantly beaten and robbed as they make their journey on life's highway. True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar. It comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring."
The two men are very similar on their stance of civil rights. The majority of differences arise between how they felt the changes should be enacted. King believed in compensation of black slaves. He was in favor of resetting a balance, a self-proclaimed socialist. He believed in the redistribution of wealth. Ron Paul doesn't support these things...not because he doesn't want men to be equal...just the opposite in fact. In his opposition to the Civil Rights Act, he explains that he objects because he feels they did nothing to resolve the issues, and only creating more inequity. I think that this sentiment is an accurate one. To this day, we have bigotry, we have hate crimes, we have general racial unrest. The tension is so high that a buffoon-like statement by Don Imus, or an outburst by a has-been comedian can rub people the wrong way, the assumption being that most men/women of whatever demographic they belong to feel the same way. These sorts of people need to be ignored and ostracized....it is not the dream of MLK that I remember hearing about that breeds such distrust and hatred for anybody who doesn't share your skin color, just because such a limited minority of the demographic fail to act as rational, civilized humans - ggfobster, on 01/14/2008, -4/+26Ron Paul is the shiznit!

He has been in the public spotlight for 30 years. You mean to tell me that he never slipped up once on camera and said something racist? not once? Where is the whistle blower? I have a thousand reasons to believe that Ron Paul is not a racist and you silly ***** have 1 sketchy reason to believe that he is. You accuse US of conspiracy theories? Who is wearing the tin foil hat now?
Desperate Hack. - skotoseme, on 01/14/2008, -3/+23BTW -- Ron Paul never said anything anti-gay. He was referring to a disturbing underground practice called "bug chasing" as defined on Wikipedia:
Bugchasing (or bug chasing) is a slang term for a subculture of gay men who desire, and actively pursue HIV infection. Bugchasers "chase the bug" by seeking sexual partners who are HIV positive for the purpose of having unprotected sex and sero-converting; giftgivers are HIV+ men who attempt to infect bugchasers with HIV.
Bugchasing is viewed with disdain by many in the gay community who consider it a dangerous and self-destructive activity, and some may be concerned that the behaviors of bugchasers may contribute to a public perception that the practice is common or encouraged by all gay people.
There is also an article on bug chasing in Rolling Stone. Are they gay bashing too? - fuzibuni, on 01/14/2008, -4/+24ron paul doesn't vote for any of the congressional medals of honor.
he voted against one for the dalai lama and for ronald reagan too.
It costs 30,000 for each one of those suckers and the US just gives them out to make themselves look good.
Ron Paul was willing to have each congressman pony up the cash and give rosa parks a medal.
no one did.
and who's the racist?
learn to think rather than regurgitate what you hear on fox.
some things are more complex than you are.
here is ron paul's speech on the house floor about why he opposes taxing the american people to give out medals:
Mr. PAUL: Mr. Speaker, with great sadness I must rise to oppose this measure granting a congressional gold medal to the 14th Dalai Lama. While I greatly admire and respect His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and fully recognize his tremendous status both as a Buddhist leader and international advocate for peace, I must object to the manner in which this body chooses to honor him.
I wonder if my colleagues see the irony in honoring a devout Buddhist monk with a material gift of gold. The Buddhist tradition, of course, eschews worldly possessions in favor of purity of thought and action. Buddhism urges its practitioners to alleviate the suffering of others whenever possible. I’m sure His Holiness the Dalai Lama would rather see $30,000 spent to help those less fortunate, rather than for a feel-good congressional gesture.
We cannot forget that Congress has no authority under the Constitution to spend taxpayer money on medals and awards, no matter how richly deserved. And I reiterate my offer of $100 from my own pocket to pay for this medal–if members wish to honor the Dalai Lama, all we need to do is pay for it ourselves. If all 435 of us contribute, the cost will be roughly $70 each. So while a gold medal sounds like a great idea, it becomes a bit strange when we see the actual cost involved. - Kewlduderules, on 01/14/2008, -3/+22If the MSM wants to be fair, they should pick up this story

The Constitution IS Civil Rights Legislation and Ron Paul is the Champion of the Constitution. Granting Extra Rights to minorities is every bit as racist as withholding them from others.
