- helfon, on 10/12/2007, -9/+174Gay Marriage is the Republican rally cry for election time.
- shirosamurai, on 10/12/2007, -17/+124Why the flying ***** are people like this hateful old hag representing our country?
It's in that question alone that you realize what a ***** up country we are. - Durinthal, on 10/12/2007, -9/+112My own opinion is that both sides (but particularly the conservatives) are generally looking at it the wrong way.
Marriage is a religious institution, and we shouldn't bother with that. However, I think that the government should either
1. allow civil unions between any two people and grant them the same benefits as marriage under the law, or
2. disband all legal benefits for marriage because it's supposed to be a religious ceremony, not a civil one.
Churches retain their sanctity of marriage and everyone else gets the same benefits under the law. What's wrong with that? - Synthaetica, on 10/12/2007, -11/+101people are so stupid. it's almost mind-boggling that our species has evolved this far. if we can at least get them out of office, things will hopefully go better.
- thelastknowngod, on 10/12/2007, -14/+93i dont see why we just dont let them do it. let them be as miserable as the rest of us.
- BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -8/+80How do fat old ***** like her get elected?
Honestly, does she REALLY THINK the "sanctity" of marriage is even in the top 100 pressing issues of today?
How about we fix health care and balance the budget first? - Xadrian79, on 10/12/2007, -4/+69Yeah, those stupid ***** orphans. Why are they trying to get themselves adopted anyway? Jerks.
- AriaStar, on 10/12/2007, -7/+67How the ***** is this "the most important issue we face today"? It shouldn't be an issue. Equal rights should not be contested.
People who say that gay marriage should be banned because of the bible need to shut the hell up and quit trying to force their beliefs down the throats of everyone in this country. Separation of church and state. This is not separation if Christianity or any religion can be used as the sole grounds for a constitutional ban on anything. It's forcing aspects of a religion on all of society. And it's pure BS to say that a marriage is supposed to be between a man and a woman for purposes of recreation. One in every six couple (I've also read one in 10, but the exact stat doesn't matter) have difficulty conceiving, not all even can conceive, and not all want to have children anyway. So throw the procreation claim out the window.
To any Christians out there, do you think your god would rather we fight for the rights of people to love each other or to put that time into stopping child molesters and keeping violent criminals off the streets? Why try to stand in the way of people loving each other? What reasons can you give for disallowing this equal right other than your beliefs?
Oh, and I, a woman, also favor women being drafted for the military. Men shouldn't be the only ones. And I am a fathers' rights advocate. Gender doesn't matter, nor does race, creed, race, etc..
Preaching inequality rights breeds hatred, and how has that ever been positive? We end up in stupid wars and people die.
For the record, I am a straight woman. Equal is equal. Period. - TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -11/+71Yeah, it's not like humans are the only animals that marry.
Marriage is *****. It was created for religious purposes (which is something a country SHOULD NOT be taking into consideration.)
***** the GOP.
***** the administration.
***** Christianity.
***** who you want. - hawkeye17, on 10/12/2007, -9/+68This ignorant woman is Exhibit A of why this country is so screwed up right now. The Republicans are so far to the Right now that they don't even act like Americans. Bigotry is alive and well in the Republican party. See you nutbags in a few weeks at the polls.
- XatM, on 10/12/2007, -6/+61Yeah, 'cause more procreation is just what we need right now. How many more humans would you like on this planet?
- Durinthal, on 10/12/2007, -6/+60Just because they're gay doesn't mean you have to be too.
- joshposh, on 10/12/2007, -9/+62Love the Person, not the Gender ~ And the World get a bit better.
- zkarcher, on 10/12/2007, -8/+61Pouring salt in the wound again to stir people up, eh? They've already enacted constitutional bans on gay marriage in a zillion states, what more could these ***** possibly want?
- pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -4/+52so people with fertility problems should not be allowed to marry also? nice try. you are a bigot, stop trying to dress it as "saving humanity".
- DownWithTheMan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+51Gay marriage wouldn't be the decline of civilization. It would be the decline of a species, IF and only if our procreation rates did not meet or exceed our death rates. Currently the procreation rates are kicking the death rates asses, and so with so many un-wanted children what's so bull-***** about allowing a loving and caring couple to take care of that child?
- everfalling, on 10/12/2007, -2/+44oh noes! we're all gonna die! everyone is butt sexxoring eachother! no one's having babies! How could this have happened? How did a minority sexual orientation somehow overpower the majority of normal reproducing humans? oh wait! they didn't! whoever think's this would ever happen is ***** insane! thank goodness.
- infopro, on 10/12/2007, -3/+44Bans on them everywhere, & a "final solution" to a "problem" that (her protestations notwithstanding) is hardly one of the top 500 difficulties facing the world today. The woman is a wing-nut with an agenda of hate -- that pretty much covers it, IMNSHO.
- happyfappy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+46I would love to see the bums get thrown out, but honestly they wouldn't be pulling this nonsense year in and year out if it wasn't working for them. The politicians are giving the people what they want.
It's the ignorance of the populace that is the real problem.
A large portion of Americans (and human beings generally) live in a fantasy land of religious beliefs rife with contradictions, half-truths, lies of convenience, and outright falsehoods. That's fertile soil for this kind of manipulation. - fohat, on 10/12/2007, -7/+47I agree. We should have never come down from the trees in the first place.
rip dna - cragga, on 10/12/2007, -5/+45hell, i dont think gay marriage is productive in relation to reproduction, but id still fight for their right to marry whoever the ***** they want.
people should trade the term conservatives for "idiot hate perpetuators" - heavensblade23, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42Ick. Yeah, forget Osama Bin Laden (After all, Bush did) and the quagmire we're facing in Iraq, clearly the gay threat is paramount.
- Unbalanced, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40I never thought I'd see the day when this "issue" would rise above health, hunger, education and poverty in relevance to importance....
- kivimaki, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40You are so right.
Because every single marriage needs to result in biological children. We might be well on the way to fill up this planet, but what about all the other planets that we are going to be living on in the future?
Also, don't forget to teach your children the good 'ol evangelist ways. Interplanetary missionaries are going to be very important! - Poco, on 10/12/2007, -6/+42Perhaps leaving the oceans was a bad idea.
- Dipsomaniac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+37Are you against infertile couples marrying too? Because if you're not, then what you've got is an anti-gay screed that you won't admit to.
- cell00, on 10/12/2007, -5/+40Because marriage is a natural thing to begin with. [/sarcasm]
- dwemer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+36What about infertile couples? Should that not be able to get married because they can't procreate?
- CanceledCzech, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35Yes! Finally! Someone who is willing to tackle the REAL issues! Gay marriage! If we let those gays marry, Jesus Christ, the destroyer of worlds will come and annihilate us! After we settle this, we can get to another big issue ailing this country: Who would win in a fight? Ninjas, or Pirates?
- rgfoster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33Not every person is homosexual (and homosexuality does not 'rub off' on people); even if there were only one billion heterosexuals on the planet (~ 1/6 of the current global population), that would be more than enough to ensure survival of our species. In fact, one could easily make the argument that over-population and continued depletion of non-renewable resources is a much graver threat.
- jkavvy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32Bottom line:
Homosexuality (and gay marriages) are between consenting adults. It is nobody else's business and you have absolutely no right to prohibit it.
Scientific studies indicate that most are born homosexual. If you don't like gays, then your problem is with God.
Final note: Most anti-gay activists in this country derive their stand on this issue from a cherry picked verse in a book of dubious origins. You have a right to your opinion, but not to force them on others. - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31It's been pointed out that there were more people against interracial marriage at the time it was legalized...
- Silencer7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33Lewis Black: "On the national agenda, the issue of gay marriage should be ranked right after 'Are we eating too much garlic as a people?'"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30Gay marriage is so far down the totem pole as far as issues go that this congress-bimbo's assertion is ludicrous.
- blakyce, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30In Canada we have had gay marriage for a year or two. It seems to not be causing too many problems as long as you keep one eyeball trained upwards to dodge the livestock falling from the sky. Endless deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan and yet gay marriage is what's important. Funny how the last place on the planet to ever consider gay marriage would be the Muslim middle east and yet they are the most screwed up place on the planet.
- Xadrian79, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27To help others in this thread, I have psychically constructed Matic's logic table for easy perusal:
Man marries woman -> Sparkles and fairy... er, magic dust
Man marries man -> Incest is legalized
Man marries daughter -> Beastiality becomes mandatory
Man marries donkey -> Interspecies gene splicing invented
Mandonkey born -> All women are destroyed by mandonkeys
Mandonkeys rule the world -> Jesus returns too late
Apocalypse -> Mandonkeys eat Jesus for nourishment, gain god power
As you can see, gay marriage leads down a slippery slope to a very frightening future. - cannibaljp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28are you trying to tell me that a marriage between two people is only valid if they create offspring? should we start forcing couples to sign contracts that force them to have kids by a predetermined time? maybe we should start testing for fertility and weed out the weak members of society that can't make babies. they shouldn't be able to marry one of our regular breeders- that might promote the end of civilization...
***** ***** pisses me off... - undeRliRcs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27"A marriage that cannot procreate does not provide a future for this planet."
Hmmm, I guess all of the straight couples who can't procreate shouldn't be allowed to get married either then? Who's next, the short ones? Fat ones? Skinny ones?
Who's the say who is deemed fit to be married? You? Well who the ***** are you? Just because you're religious and doesn't understand love between two people of the same sex; does not mean you can force others to live the way you think they should live. Last time I checked, it was people like you creating fuss about every difference between people...It's people like YOU who is the decline of a civilization. - pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26i scream "look out behind you" while i sucker-punch you. americans need to stop falling for this crap. doesn't help that our media, with fox leading the charge, aids in these distraction and distortion tactics.
- ryno35, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25I am conservative Christian Republican but I seriously think people need to lighten up on this one. The Government needs to get out of the marriage definition business and setup a system of domestic partners that is non-discriminatory. It does not hurt the traditional family to allow all people the same rights. If you depend on the government to define for your children what is right and wrong you're in for a big disappointment. The government should not be legislating morality that's not it's purpose.
If you think being gay is a sin then teach your children that and let the government do what it's supposed to do, protect us and leave us alone.
If you believe in Jesus' message then you need to realize that being gay is no more a sin than being fat. So put down the plate you just filled up at the pot-luck and hug a homosexual. Love was Jesus' message. Try it sometime. - Dipsomaniac, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27Oooh, Santorum and the box-turtle come back to life. How edifiying!
Or not, actually. Keep your god and your life out of others' marriages. - JavaBean, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24@jkavvy
As a *true* Conservative (preparing myself to be buried as usual)I completely agree. The government should stay out of the personal lives of its citizens, including the bedroom. - gdm9000, on 10/12/2007, -7/+30The real irony here is that it's fascists like her that are one of the biggest threats to our country.
- NinjAlt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23Look children, its the face of what humanity was 30 years ago trying to pull us backwards in time.
- 00squirrel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25All kinds of reasons:
- not having to pay tax on the other's possessions if one partner dies
- power of attorney should the partner become incapacitated
- making medical decisions for the partner
- medical visitation
- not having to testify against the partner in court
to name a few... - scrambled, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23***** the clear danger of Islamic extremism, let's push religiously motivated discrimination on the masses.
- stonebear, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2312 Reasons Gay Marriage Should Be Banned
1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control.
2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people can`t legally get married because the world needs more children.
3. Obviously, gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if Gay marriage is allowed, since Britney Spears` 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.
5. Heterosexual marriage has been around a long time and hasn`t changed at all; women are property, blacks can`t marry whites, and divorce is illegal.
6. Gay marriage should be decided by people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of the minorities.
7. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That`s why we have only one religion in America.
8. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
9. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
10. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That`s why single parents are forbidden to raise children.
11. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms because we haven`t adapted to things like cars or longer life spans.
12. Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a "separate but equal" institution is always constitutional. Separate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as separate marriages for gays and lesbians will. - arkmtech, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25A "a gay," I promise to all of you that the world will explode as soon as my boyfriend and I are able to marry.
The hilltops of hell will also be covered in snow. - shaun1018, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Want to preserve the sanctity of marriage? Ban divorce.
- barbobot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22"For the record, I think homosexuality is a bad idea, from a moral and naturalistic standpoint. "
That's nice, I think the same thing about christianity, should we ban all religions? -
