- ileftfark, on 04/20/2008, -1/+74Dude, I live in Allentown. I can assure you anything not double-bolted and put in a fire-proof vault will be stolen at some time. His office was in Center City, where I had the pleasure of living for two years. In that time, my car was broken into twice, my house once, and my upstairs neighbor strangled his wife to death. Good times.
Anyway, the point is, before we pull out the tinfoil hats, please lets examine the context.
Allentown's crime rate (see robbery and burglary rates): http://snipurl.com/253a5 (snipurl cause digg munches long urls like junior bacon cheeseburgers) - CTK14A, on 04/20/2008, -5/+70I've had my laptop stolen while working on a campaign. Yeah, there's the possibility of sabotage--but most likely, it's employee theft. Campaigns will hire just about anyone; they tend to be fly-by-night operations with a heavy demand for bodies, on very short notice. Campaign offices also tend to be located in either affluent, professional downtown metro areas or--in my experience--the part of town on the wrong side of the tracks. My boss hired TWO office secretaries who've been locked up for attempted murder. Well, we didn't know that at the time, of course...
- capj71, on 04/20/2008, -9/+34It is Allentown, I doubt it is sabatoge. It is probably just plain theft. Hillary Clinton doesn't need to do anything. Like it or not, and I don't, she is going to win here.
- Stevanoski, on 04/20/2008, -12/+34Tin foil hat alert, burglary must be done by someone for political purpose, transmission complete, please readjust hats. PS: have you got rid of the fillings in your teeth yet so the gov. can't track you?
- TomK88, on 04/20/2008, -2/+24I love this is automatically cast as some big sabotage. This is likely simple theft and has absolutely nothing to do with the political process. What was taken? Valuable electronics, that is it. You'll probably see those laptops and cell phones on eBay or in your local pawn shop in the next week or so.
- voxlisa999, on 04/20/2008, -24/+45So now we have this in addition to Obama's website being hijacked by the Clinton Campaign, see the link below. This is NOT a hoax. Some idiot is posting a link to Cnet that it's a hoax that is 3 weeks old and has nothing to do with this. I saw it happen and you can to- there is a video in the story showing it happening. Does this mean Clinton is finished or just is just beginning the dirty tricks?http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Obama_Website_Ha ...
- TomK88, on 04/20/2008, -0/+21Because clearly it was Bill and Hilary who were behind this...
- Ceeman, on 04/20/2008, -2/+23Fun fact Watergate is a real place thats why the word gate is in there. Why does gate need to go with every other news post? Theft in Allentown would of worked just fine.
- bitcloud, on 04/20/2008, -2/+22Sorry to comment abuse here, but isn't our generations watergate...
...THE AT&T/NSA WIRETAPPING AND DATAMINING OF THE ENTIRE NATION? - inactive, on 04/20/2008, -2/+19Thank you for saying this. The person who posted the article seems to think that it was Hillary.
- WocCixelsyd, on 04/20/2008, -1/+15Can we please stop adding "-gate" as a suffix to words?
- mrblue182, on 04/20/2008, -0/+13Umm, it's Allentown. ***** gets stolen. I know, I live there.
- ileftfark, on 04/20/2008, -4/+17I'm not sure if you prove your credibility by linking to another story you submitted, although I give you props on the shameless self-promotion. I also give you props for pandering for 90 diggs on your other story that doesn't even link to anything. Work that system!
- SgtQuackers, on 04/20/2008, -2/+15Quit making up crap people there is no proof who did it. Stop blowing this out of proportion and just read the story as it is. There is nothing to even make people think it was more than just a burglary. Stop being conspiracy theorists.
- vinnyvenus, on 04/20/2008, -0/+11This sounds like ordinary instead of sabotage
- Misinformant, on 04/21/2008, -0/+11Holy ***** stop adding "gate" to the end of every goddamn thing that happens in the race.
LAPELGATE
WRIGHTGATE
BOSNIAGATE
ALLENTOWNGATE
BITTERGATE
Shut the F up...gate. - TheWorm, on 04/20/2008, -0/+9Way to take it way too far.
- DaDrake, on 04/20/2008, -2/+11Guys this isn't any organize effort by Hillary or McCain. In fact, this ***** happens every single election. Usually it involves radical young adults deranged on some sort of fame..... they envision them selfs taking down Goliath.
- lolbotomy, on 04/20/2008, -1/+9Your probably right that it's simple employee theft, but this quote from the article is kind of worrying ... "The computers have demographic information that the campaign uses to target voters." ... This could cost Obama votes if they were using these laptops and cellphones to contact PA voters on Monday and Tuesday the 22nd reminding people to vote.
- thefirstenemy, on 04/20/2008, -4/+11It's a little funny/sad they never mention that the woman who put up the flag was a Cuban immigrant.
- inactive, on 04/20/2008, -0/+7wordsgate
- laserblazer, on 04/20/2008, -0/+7The '08 U.S. election is a psychotic *****.
- brstilson, on 04/20/2008, -0/+7Yes, she's the only one who doesn't like Obama.
- laserblazer, on 04/20/2008, -1/+7Except they represent completely different demographics and there's a wide disparity between the total number of their supporters, but otherwise, yup, so very equal. Not.
- newnie, on 04/20/2008, -0/+6y'all would have ***** bricks if the hillary campaign would have cried foul when her office in terre haute caught fire
- inactive, on 04/20/2008, -0/+6it was robbed because it was in allentown, nothing but scrubs and crooks live there.
- cvindustries, on 04/21/2008, -0/+5Now I'm craving a bacon cheeseburger. Thx.
- TobiasParker, on 04/20/2008, -2/+7Wow, you sure seem bitter.
- TomK88, on 04/20/2008, -0/+5It's definitely a possibility. Employees are generally the #1 suspects when it comes to theft.
- Philodox, on 04/20/2008, -0/+5must everything have 'gate' tacked on to the end of it? Seriously, there has to be a better suffix.
- robbiemuffin, on 04/21/2008, -0/+4the best thing that could happen for america right now is if all three candidates stepped down.
- ileftfark, on 04/20/2008, -1/+5Nah, I'm just a typical white person. ;)
- inactive, on 04/20/2008, -1/+5That stuttering ***** just wants attention.
- bitcloud, on 04/20/2008, -1/+5yeah the government is tracking you fillings or not..
datamining is a bitch, but it's not nearly as bad as a stubbornly ignorant voting population.... - runCMD, on 04/20/2008, -0/+4I wonder if it was one of those bitter gun-toters in Pennsylvania : )
- thebellmaster1x, on 04/21/2008, -1/+5No, no, there's a pretty big difference. For example, a Paultard would automatically assume that the government stole the laptops to keep his message down.
As for me, an Obama supporter, I see absolutely no reason to blame this on Hillary or McCain. For God's sake. Laptops got stolen, oh noes! THAT totally can't happen without a conspiracy! - breezytrees, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3true. Hillary could have stolen these laptops, thereby benefiting her. Obama could have also claimed that laptops were "stolen," obviously making hillary look bad in the process and thereby benefiting Obama. Even if they were stolen, we have no idea what was on those laptops. There could have been nothing... but the obama camp claimed otherwise to make it seem like there may be a conspiracy.
American politics at its finest. - GFX1003, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3I'm from Northampton which is about 10 min from Allentown. There are parts of Allentown that I wouldn't want to be walking around, even during the day. This news isn't all that surprising.
- kylere, on 04/20/2008, -0/+3Buried because it is LAME Gee! Burglary in a major city!! Must be a vast left wing conspiracy!
- vinnyvenus, on 04/20/2008, -0/+3Sorry about that. I meant say " This sound like an ordinary theft instead of a sabotage."
- bitcloud, on 04/20/2008, -1/+4sigh...
- mrminty, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3Wow, has it not occurred to anyone that this is probably a petty theft?
Stop with the moronic alarmist *****, more than likely the missing items were the most expensive things a thief could carry out. - morcheeba, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3I agree. Sabotage would be hacking in to the database so that when voting day comes and they make the "remember to vote today" calls, they only reach pizza parlors.
- mehan, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3wtf? how is a theft of two laptops and cell phones considered news?
NEWSFLASH: ***** gets stolen all the time.
It's probably some ***** tweakers looking for a quick fix.
And even if it's not, how much damage can this possibly inflict upon Obama's campaign? Do you really want a president whose whole ***** can get ***** up over two laptops? - mal1964, on 04/20/2008, -1/+4Cell Phones and Laptops, Males 16 to 24 years old I have a Internet buck on it. They will be caught.
- chrisaug18, on 04/20/2008, -0/+3You forgot, your doing it wrong...oh and your doing it wrong
- glibpaxman, on 04/20/2008, -2/+5great framing of the article by whoever posted this. our generations watergate? please. first off, theres no evidence it was connected to clinton and secondly nixon was the kind of dirty gamer hillary wishes she was, but isnt. buried.
- czeman, on 04/20/2008, -1/+4"HEY, THIS IS MORE THE and only a certian far right faction of the GOP's ( nixon/ bush's screw the constitution and civil rights) STYLE...."
Could you rephrase that so it's understandable? - CTK14A, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3True. The trend has been to store this sensitive data in an online database, and back it up relentlessly, which (while still vulnerable to attack) at least can't be burglarized overnight and gone forever right before E-Day. Only amateurs would keep months worth of targeting data in-house where it can be stolen in seconds.
Last minute tricks do happen, even intra-party tricks. It doesn't make the papers. The night before E-Day is kind of like a grown-up mischief night for political operatives... best to stay out of trouble, and to sleep in your HQ with one eye open. -
