- Albionshores, on 11/02/2007, -4/+46Provoke a retaliation to then use that to justify to the American citizenry their pre-planned attack on Iran i.e. manipulate the American people with a lie.
But somewhat inversely worrying for myself is this from the article:
"The steady departure of neoconservative hawks from the administration has also helped tilt the balance against war"
Knowing that Cheney has been the strictest of adherents to the so called Wolfowitz Doctrine, PNAC and his own terms laid out in the "Defense Strategy For The 1990s: The Regional Defense Strategy" which specifically highlights Iran then it is fair to assume that he has not given up on forging a reason to attack Iran. The greater the movement against war, the more he will have to resort to extreme measures to see out his goals. If Cheney is willing here to consider allowing Iran to be attacked - provoking a retaliation to justify his own brand of US intervention, then the question has to be asked:
Is that the sort of man who seems likely to be deterred and if not, and this 'lie' was not big enough to justify his course of action, what lie is he planning to sell to the American people?
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/pdf/naarp ... - smatty1, on 10/10/2007, -4/+42When staged attacks as a pretext for war is mainstream news, we are in big trouble people!
This kind of story would have gotten a "tin foil hat wearing kook!" response just a short time ago. Turns out tin foil on your head must give clarity.
Now, everyone go educate yourselves on the history of these types of ops. Time to wake up! - MaximusIGN, on 10/10/2007, -5/+30I really don't understand why people think that governments are above staging events to go to war. Well I hate to break it to those people but governments conspire all the time to get into wars when it suits them.
Case in point the Israelis got caught red handed committing terrorist attacks on the US and Britain to make it look like Egypt did it so the US and Britain would stay. It was called the Lavon Affair.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lavon_Affair - scoobydoo84, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16Cheney, W, and the entire Republican party is a plague and curse upon our freedom, and the entire human race. I simply cannot believe that a noble and promising nation like ours has come down to W and Cheney in charge. This must be God's way of punishing us for the Indians and slavery. When I see that W still has support of 30% of the public I realize that this nation has surpassed in its ignorance and stupidity most corrupt 3rd world nations.
- InetRoadkill, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12If the US does launch an attack against Iran, I would hope that Cheney's fat ass would be loaded in the nose of the first missile fired.
- Waiting2awake, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Firstly - He never called for the annihilation of israel. If you are so sloppy on the obvious stuff, how clueless do you suppose you are on the deeper issues?
Secondly - While they do sponser people that do terrible things - the same can be said for both Israel and the US...and Britian..and Russia...and... Get the point? You are either being played for a fool, or trying to fool others. Iran is no more of a threat than any other country out there..

Oil and world domination. - littlebylittle, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12What does it matter? He's running things anyway.
- scoobydoo84, on 11/02/2007, -0/+10Albionshores,
As usual your insights are extremely acute. It is very likely that if cheney is cornered he may act out of desperation and do something so horrifying that we would reach a point of no return!! I fully believe Cheney intends to do just that before these 2 criminals leave office. By God if this country doesn't have a political revolution on the scale of 1776, not only this country but the entire world is doomed to hell in a hand basket. - RollFizzlebeef, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11I wouldn't expect a lot of self-reflection from Republi-Diggers on this news.
They'll just chalk this up to the "liberal media" (i.e. anyone who tells them what they don't want to hear). - InetRoadkill, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10I love how an Israeli security problem is somehow the world's problem.
Israel != The World - digsig, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9It's funny how ignorant and right out misinformed people seem to be the most fanatic ones. IANANS (i'm not a nuclear scientist) but i've read a book or two about nuclear power and nuclear weapons. For use in a nuclear power plant you have to enrich uranium to 3%. For use in a nuclear warhead you need 90% enrichment. Iran hasn't yet enriched it to 3% in a meaningful scale, so what are we talking about?
Even if you are positive for preemptive strikes (which i'm not), you should at least think why the us would want to attack iran's nuclear facilities when in the US administrations own words "it is at least 3 years away from BEGINNING to build nuclear weapons".
Iran doesn't have nuclear weapons, states that it doesn't want to acquire or build such weapons and it is incapable of building them in the near future. In fact, inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are right now in Iran's enrichment facilities. So, i'm asking myself, why now? It's the oil stupid ... - StingerMS, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9I know I'm going to get buried into oblivion for this, but it's a valid question by someone that doesn't follow politics.
So do we want to attack Iran for oil, too? - digsig, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8This kind of tactics was used by Israel to provoke Syria into border incidents in the Golan Heights that subsequently led to the Six-day war. Citing from wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six-Day_War ):
Years later, Israeli Minister of Defense Moshe Dayan gave a different account of the reasons for war: "Along the Syria border there were no farms and no refugee camps — there was only the Syrian army... The kibbutzim saw the good agricultural land ... and they dreamed about it... They didn't even try to hide their greed for the land... We would send a tractor to plow some area where it wasn't possible to do anything, in the demilitarized area, and knew in advance that the Syrians would start to shoot. If they didn't shoot, we would tell the tractor to advance further, until in the end the Syrians would get annoyed and shoot. And then we would use artillery and later the air force also, and that's how it was...The Syrians, on the fourth day of the war, weren't a threat to us." - scoobydoo84, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6orangedog
Forget going to hell, Cheney is determined to create a hell on earth. - UtahApocalyse, on 10/10/2007, -6/+12***** THIS!! If Congress wont Impeach the cocksucking Bastards us Americans need to ***** march on Washington, and I mena with GUNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
- scoobydoo84, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Amen!!
- orangedog, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Those heart attacks must be awfully scary when you know you're going to Hell.
- christor, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7To finish your, er, thought: therefore, our elected Vice-President is entirely justified in secretly manufacturing a justification for a war that his electors do not want. Nice logic. Iran is bad, therefore [insert any bat-***** insane idea dreamed up by the least competent, most secretive, and most dangerous administration in over a generation (and perhaps ever)].
- scoobydoo84, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5williamdyer,
I agree with you that our gov't has been hijacked by Israeli loyalists!! But the only reason that has happened is bc our elected officials have sold this country out and the religious nuts on the right have demanded a Israeli first policy from this country. Bad Karma in a sense that we have such blind and ignorant people in this country that we are setting up our own destruction!! - cranium, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6The 'Hitler' character in this saga is in the White House.
- williamdyer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5It isn't quite as simple as bad karma. The neocons are backed by Israeli espionage services. The Republican party was hijacked and the U.S. government has been hijacked to start a war on behalf of Israel. Google "AIPAC" and "spying" and "Israel." It sounds too wild to be true, but there it is.
Watch out for the NEW new Pearl Harbor. - neenach2002, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Uhhh...actually, the president of Iran never said he wanted to wipe Israel off the face of the planet. Our media just mis-translated what he said intentionally to attempt to mislead us.
- RobotCitizen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Third war, dude. Third war.
- hagbard72, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6No one actually believed George W. Bush was in charge, did they?
- ndawg25, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Hell keeps kicking him out
- omegaredIX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Democrats and Republicans both took an oath to defend the Constitution. As of today none of them are living up to that oath as we see ourselves continuing down a terrible path. How can you swear an oath and not even defend that oath? Both parties overstep their Constitutional limitations and it must stop, WE THE PEOPLE GAVE THEM THE POWER AND WE THE PEOPLE CAN TAKE IT AWAY. THEY ARE OUR SERVANTS! We are not slaves. We are individuals in a free society protected by law, The constitution of the United States.
Learn the difference between a Right, and a Privilege. Rights can not be taken away by anyone and we all have the same rights. The government is suppose to Protect our rights not steal them. Educate yourself on the Constitution with this free 8 part lecture that vividly describes what America has become and how the Constitution is totally ignored.

- digsig, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Just tell me who's fault it is that there are 8 million ethnically cleansed Palestinians without a state. Who's fault is it that part of their land continues to be occupied by Israeli armed forces and settlements continue to expand on that land?
- wonderbroad, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5It comes as no surprise that Cheney would consider such an action as within his scope of responsibility - what is alarming about this article is the implied willingness of Israel (or any other country) to follow the orders of a vice president on matters of global, historical importance.
- scoobydoo84, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2ndawg25,
Even Satan must be blushing when he thinks of cheney!! - littlebylittle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Can someone here explain Zionism to me in a Nutshell? Seriously. And not a Wiki link. I've read that. I've also heard it explained from many subjective viewpoints. I still don't get it. Oh, and it's not because I'm stupid. ;o)
- Caffeinate, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Hell is probably afraid he will take over in the guise of Satan's advisor. It seems to be a natural role for him to promote and rule in evil from the shadows.
- neenach2002, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Which is the exact reason he will go there!
You go where your consciousness is. - ryancalderoni, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3we throw around the word 'proof' too often i feel like
- williamdyer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Those are pretty far down the list. The REAL reason is that Israel fears a counterbalancing nuclear deterrent. If any other nation in the region got that (or if Pakistan got out from under our thumb, and, by extension, Israel's) then Israel could no longer go bombing its neighbors whenever they want. Heck, it could even come to credible demands that Israel withdraw to the Green Line and give the Palestinians true self-government.
Those are reasons #1-#99 we are in this war. There isn't enough oil anywhere to pay for what already spent. - syroncoda, on 10/10/2007, -7/+8yeah. our vice president asking a country (who shouldn't even have nuclear weapons according to them) to start a nuke war with iran (who probably bought nuke weapons when north korea was trying to sell off theirs). this is what a police state looks like.
- Caffeinate, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1At least the mainstream media is finally printing stories like this. The Bush supporters can't possibly even be at 30% right now. My parents are SO republican, a republican candidate would have to commit murder right in front of them to draw criticism or to cause them to vote for someone else. My mother shocked me yesterday by calling the administration a group of criminals. My parents are seniors, the generation of older Republicans
If my parents are criticizing Bush, and the people that they know are talking about how disgusted they are with Bush, his support is nearly gone. The major reason being that many republicans are beginning to realize that they are getting hit where it hurts the most by this administration - in the pocketbook. That's why they are now trying to say "We are fiscal conservatives", but that is backfiring on them because everyone knows they have completely mishandled funds, at this point. - inactive, on 12/07/2007, -0/+0___________________________________________________________

Also, provoke a retaliation? Iran is enriching uranium and the little Hitler over there wants to wipe Israel out. Earth to morons, this means you stop them. The U.S. doesn't have to ask Israel to attack, Israel does it to ensure its survival in a hostile region. They would be gone without the U.S.. We gave them all the tools, they are using them.
