- cybrguy, on 08/19/2008, -4/+90Your vote counted, trust me, I had the voting machines at MY house for the weekend. You ARE a Republican right?

"Never gonna give you up/Never gonna let you down!" - suxmonkey, on 08/19/2008, -1/+64"But their critics call that nonsense, and argue that allowing people to take voting machines home with them — where they can access them at any time, and potentially hack into them — is the very definition of a security risk." Like, DUH
- inactive, on 08/19/2008, -1/+50Great place to reprogram them.
- acmaurer, on 08/19/2008, -1/+35I wonder who was the brilliant one who said "HEY! I know! Let's keep them in our garages!" (Followed by a chorus of "yeah!"s)
- bodger, on 08/20/2008, -1/+35"So Sir, can you tell me what they took?"
"Well, the leaf blower is missing, my bike's gone, my drill... oh, and democracy too" - bixby1, on 08/19/2008, -1/+35Of course, honey, but it's got to sleep in the garage with Fido. I don't want to see it in the house. I just polished the linoleum.
- MACady, on 08/20/2008, -1/+31I believe in Bigfoot more than I believe in the accuracy of electronic voting.
- Homerr, on 08/20/2008, -0/+28Imagine if Mugabe, Medvedev, or Saddam Hussein had said, "Yes, the election is fair. I had the poll workers take the ballot boxes home at night to guard them."
- pintomp3, on 08/20/2008, -0/+24"Sir, be honest. You didn't really have a democracy"
- captmorgan555, on 08/20/2008, -0/+15That would be worth the jail time... almost.
- diggThis77, on 08/20/2008, -0/+14Turn the voting machines into something the public is more familiar with. Maybe a slot machine? You pull a lever and tells you who you voted for. I'd say that's about as "democratic" as we are anymore. Hell, we'll have a better turnout.
- Skywise, on 08/20/2008, -2/+15"No...", kicks dirt, "I had a Republic but I couldn't keep it..."
- Residents, on 08/20/2008, -1/+13Seriously, that's the first thing I thought. Who is going to stop you in your own garage at 3AM? Even if its not likely, the above still stands perfectly true.
- INTERNETS555, on 08/20/2008, -0/+12This is the same practice the State of Ohio used to keep track of hard drives with all sorts of personal information from the DMV on them. Have employees take them home! That's a stellar plan. They sent one home with an unwilling, 22-year-old intern and it was stolen out of the back of his car.
My name was on that hard drive and I had to lock down my credit, because some petty thieves gained access to all the information I had used to get an Ohio driver's license when I was 16, including my social security number. So now if I want to rent an apartment, apply for a credit card, etc, I have to go through the complicated process of contacting each credit bureau separately.
I don't even live in Ohio anymore, but their stupidity is making my life just a little bit more awesome everyday. Thanks Ohio, you're a winner.
Here's the intern's side of the story: http://tech.blorge.com/Structure:%20/2007/07/26/80 ... - ashwinmudigonda, on 08/20/2008, -1/+11I am so ashamed of Ohio, I left Cleveland last month. Couldn't take it anymore.
- Phearce, on 08/20/2008, -0/+10Are you suggesting that electronic voting is fraud dressed in a gorilla suit?
- imnojezus, on 08/20/2008, -3/+12No, you got read rolled.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -1/+10My garage was broke into twice. ... Maybe if I took a voting machine home, I could finally get the police to arrest the little bastards that did it.
- FredFredrickson, on 08/20/2008, -2/+11Just another night at the Diebold household.
- madeingermany, on 08/19/2008, -2/+10Obviously the garage - my wife would never allow me to bring this ugly thing into the living room!
- madeingermany, on 08/19/2008, -2/+10While people have the machines at home they can update the McAfee virus definitions as well!
- JacobParker, on 08/20/2008, -0/+8Through the power of text... yes.
- Kenzan, on 08/20/2008, -0/+7Shenanigans

3. The cause of many a Pistol whippins'. - inactive, on 08/20/2008, -0/+7Voting machines... *sigh*
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -1/+8The problem is that there was way too wide a margin for there fraud to have been considered a factor in texas, which means that even IF there was fraud in Illinois, he wouldn't have enough votes in the EC. Further, there were many instances were fraud could be proven in several southern states that the dems never pushed for.
On top of all that, Bush was selected by Supreme Court Ruling. Sorry you lose. - nick1971, on 08/20/2008, -4/+11Its nice to know that election fraud occurs in the USA. Perhaps the UN need to send in monitors to guarantee a fair election. You should not worry as they are very well practiced in monitoring elections most have come back from African countries.
/SARCASM - AndrewMoyer, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6"Ok, everybody back to the man pile!"
- AdmiralHalsey, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6These need to be really safe.. maybe we should conduct transparent overseeing. No, nevermind.. I'll just bring them home, I have a Sears security system. It's only the presidential election
- Askee, on 08/20/2008, -1/+7No way anything could go wrong here. Nope.
- gamekid, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6Hillary's ALWAYS awake at 3AM.
- pintomp3, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6introducing the hacking democracy at home kit.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -2/+8Sorry, Bush getting selected into the Presidency>JFK getting Elected.
- charm803, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6Dugg for the funny title and then reading it and it not being an onion article.
- davidkshepherd, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6OMFG, how can anyone think this is a good idea? Yeah, I'm sure people working the elections never have any vested interest in seeing one candidate win vs. another. And they are all certainly above be bribed. After all, they are bringing in that huge check, right. oh yeah.... They are unpaid volunteers... Yeah, that is stupid. Fix it. Where is the FEC on this one?
- rjyanj, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5a.. o.. way to go.. ohioooo..
- guestaccount, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5I desperately hoped this was onion.
America has failed me again, the fact that I live in Ohio just adds to the pain. - lucy22, on 08/20/2008, -3/+8I thought they were kidding at first, a "sleepover voting machine", this is pretty funny, really.
- kingUssop, on 08/20/2008, -1/+5Ohio should no longer be included in the vote.
- Bulletbillx, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4AIDS in voting machines?
- Ugoff, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4Just about as safe as hiring Michael Jackson to babysit your son suffering from leukemia.
- ACProfessor, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4When I was 19 I assisted in the San Diego County primary elections and a county proposition election. Both elections included a single electronic voting machine to be used for the elderly. The Touchscreen Inspector, the one in charge of operating the machine (me), actually had to take the touchscreen home with them a week before the actual election. Now there were safeguards in place to prevent tampering with the machine. These safeguards include a big VOID IF BROKEN seal and a zipper lock, which, at both polls I worked, nobody really checked. The touchscreens I used had voting storage on a Compact Flash card, and given the right know-how, were incredibly exploitable given the conditions of nobody checking the seals. Both experiences made me completely jaded about touchscreen voting and had me seriously questioning the entire process in place. I really hope other states that are going to be using touchscreens have a MUCH more strict method in place for the management of the voting booths. Because honestly, giving a computer savvy teenager an official touchscreen for a week is absolutely insane.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -6/+10Yes, because the guy who claims to be our President right now is a Chicago democrat.
/sarcasm
get a clue. - raybury, on 08/20/2008, -1/+5Well, they didn't / don't need ballot boxes to count the vote...
- cuoops, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4........allowing people to take voting machines home with them — where they can access them at any time, and potentially hack into them — is the very definition of a security risk.
You think? - Phearce, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4? I'm not sure you used "sarcasm" correctly: if the UN had monitored the 2000 election Bush wouldn't have won.
- WELLDOITLIVE, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4Let's assume he's not a complete idiot
- drape, on 08/20/2008, -0/+42004 elections. Osama bin laden appeared just prior to the elections on a video sent to the al-jeerzera network. Analysis done on the video shows him as a right-handed man and seem to be suffering from a debilitating illness. But osama bin laden is left handed.
Post election interviews suggested that Bush jr would not have won the elections if Osama bin laden had not sent his video threatening the United States.
As for election fraud, its already shown possible in DieBold electronic voting machines without needing to open the machines. - Calcularius, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4Who watches the watchmen?
- drape, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4Dont be too sure.
There may be a set-up by dark political figures to do a mass media reporting of a suicide attack attempt in US to swing votes as the voting days approach. Even if it may not shake the will of the people, the event can still be used as a pretext for an election fraud. -
