- JimmyChooLove, on 02/07/2008, -1/+13Official word is that he's "suspending" his campaign ...
This means he can keep all the delegates he's won so far even though he's no longer running..
Greedy Bastard - mozmac, on 02/07/2008, -4/+14Romney is a smart business man. He knows when his money would be wasted. I backed Romney, but don't see him winning this race. Looks like I'll be voting for a democrat in November.
- Charlotte_Web, on 02/07/2008, -1/+9A more likely combination would be McCain/Huckabee. They are much closer in ideology than McCain and Romney, and between the two of them, they had a lock on the South; I don't think Romney took any southern states.
With the choices in the general election now being either McCain, Clinton, or Obama, there is going to be a definite swing to the left in the next administration. - MadSquirrel, on 02/07/2008, -0/+8Eeeeewwwww, gag, barf.......! The thought that just came to mind, *retch*!
- colosis, on 02/07/2008, -2/+10please let McCain and Huckabee quit too...
- inactive, on 02/07/2008, -2/+8Considering Mclame's age, Romney should not quit at this time.
- drachemorder, on 02/07/2008, -0/+6I dunno if I can get on board with that one... I kinda agree, in principle, with the idea of voting for the greater evil so as to give us a better shot at a conservative down the road ... but I just don't think I can hold my nose that long.
- bigkahunafish, on 02/07/2008, -1/+6agreed... he doesnt want huckabee having them..... he is a punk..... no wonder people stopped voting for him
- Indyanna, on 02/07/2008, -1/+6LOL :-))) OK, guys - be honest. What do you REALLY think?? barfing, retching, and holding your nose...you're being a little vague.
When I saw for the first time that Romney had pulled out of the race, I put Hillary's little face on my profile page purely out of resignation. Just now (a couple of hours later) I came back to my computer, pulled up my digg page, saw her picture there and realized I can't handle seeing her face on MY page. I hit that Remove Friend button faster than you can say "Vince Foster." - AshamedAmerican, on 02/07/2008, -2/+7I would feel a lot better if that title read "John McCain Quits Race!"
- alexology, on 02/07/2008, -2/+7dun dun dun....another one bites the dust...
- howsmusic4u, on 02/07/2008, -6/+10Quitting is for losers...oh wait....
- savetheusa1, on 02/07/2008, -0/+4He changes his positions so much that he will probably be running again tomorrow!
- inactive, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3It's not like Dubya is exactly "conservative" given the amnesty program and his hostility to the Constitution (1st - 2nd - 4th Amendments in particular), it's just that McAmnesty is *SO* much worse. He could run as a dimocrap and no one would notice the difference.
Frankly, I don't want ***ANY*** of the ones left within 50 miles of DC, much less the Presidency. Well, I can live with Ron Quixote in Congress; he's no threat to foreign policy there and he's the best of the lot on domestic issues. - chupavacas, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3The parties have different rules.Democrats keep thier delegates but Republicans who "suspend" give the states the power to allocate delegates, which could be allocated to the remaining three.
- ManHammer, on 02/07/2008, -6/+9Quitter
- onassar, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2I don't really admire romney too much for his flip flopping, but Mccain is not a good choice either. Didn't really have a choice based on tuesday tho.. my favorite romney commercial: http://www.ifimpresident.com/n2175_Romney_drops_ou ...
- manmademark, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2Remember a vote for Huckabee is a vote for Mccain and through the transitive property is a vote for Huckabee's creator Colbert, who was created by Conan thusa vote for Huckabee is a vote for Conan. But also let it not be forgotten that Stewart created Conan so in actuality a vote for Huckabee is a vote for Mccain that is a vote for Colbert which is in fact a vote for Conan that is in actuality a vote for Stewart. What am I saying here? Romney doesn't really freakin' matter much anyways.
- Antitrust, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2I would feel a lot better if that title read "Hillary Clinton Quits Race!"
- drachemorder, on 02/09/2008, -0/+2Good for you. I was actually starting to worry about you a bit. ;)
- vault, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2I see a lot of people saying that. But if your problem with McCain is that he's too liberal, why would you vote for someone who is MORE liberal?
Seems like a bizarre way to make a statement. - inactive, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2If Mitt were the VP, he'd be the brains in any case. We'll see. I might vote for a McAmnesty-Romney ticket, but that's McAmnesty's sole shot at my vote.
- vault, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2So if Hillary wins, will you change your name from 'AshamedAmerican' because that would somehow not be shameful?
- Birdoftruth, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2Ever heard of a Brokered Convention?
- NatashaCall, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2He is extremely smart to do this, based on his CPAC speech that he just made. He may become the VP. If McCain has health problems and is running the country, Romney would be the brains anyway.
- angusm, on 02/07/2008, -1/+3Great ... now we're down to only two potential Republican presidents who scare the crap out of me.
- inactive, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2I guess it depends on which set of characteristics / qualifications are foremost in one's mind. I *KNOW* McAmnesty is a liar; I hope Romney is not.
- PDAIsAOk, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2Wouldn't be surprised if this was a ploy to get a VP call. Im sure Guiliani was hoping for that too when he endorsed McCain
- birdly, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2Good night, kitten....and good night Mitten.
- bmatherlyjr, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2It's important to realize the distinction between "quiting" and "suspending" -- Hence you'll see why I feel this is a ***** block, by quitting then the delegates obtained thus far are back up for grabs. He didn't quit. He suspended his campaign which means he KEEPS his delegates. This is a clear case of "If I can't win McCain, neither can you". This is nothing more than a strategic ***** blocking maneuvering. Apparently Romney's camp thinks that either Huckleberry and Paul will fair much better in the remaining states which will make the convention must see TV as three people via for nomination that they can't get unless a) the republican convention organizers change their 1,000 + delegate rule to secure nomination or b) Romney officially "QUITS" the race.
- keithgplayer, on 02/07/2008, -0/+1I heard somewhere that McCain is thinking of running with Lieberman. It's speculation, but a possibility.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16530615/ - bmatherlyjr, on 02/07/2008, -2/+3Three:
McCain
Huckleberry
Paul - Nudar, on 02/08/2008, -0/+1I think the OP meant that Paul didn't scare the crap out of him, not that there were only 2 Republicans candidates.
- inactive, on 02/07/2008, -1/+2I wonder how many voters who succumb to the wasted vote fallacy voted against McCain by voting for Romney, or against Romney by voting for McCain. Between this, and the Thompson experiment, I wonder how differently this race could have gone for an actual conservative Republican.
- waterdrop, on 02/08/2008, -1/+2I never realized there were Romney supporters on Digg. At least there aren't any McCain or Hillary supporters on Digg.
- holygram, on 02/07/2008, -0/+1Quitters never win....thank god.
- michaelfitz, on 02/08/2008, -0/+1yup, unlikely tho. (last one we've had anything close to one was '76)
- cvp1, on 02/07/2008, -2/+3Well Ron Paul definitely has a chance now! ... ... (crickets chirp in the silence)
- Chestnutridge, on 02/08/2008, -0/+0I think it is highly unlikely that he will choose Romney. He tends to hold grudges and he doesn't like Romney. And Romney is no help in the South.
- Brad324, on 02/08/2008, -1/+1Why respect someone who threatens it?
- inactive, on 02/07/2008, -1/+1I will "suspend" my vote if Mclame is the Republican nominee.
- Brad324, on 02/08/2008, -1/+1did you not hear his speech about "winning at all costs"
- vervalsing, on 02/07/2008, -1/+1I guess that magic underwear doesn't work after all...
- Loopholes, on 02/08/2008, -1/+1The republican field just got uglier.
- Brad324, on 02/08/2008, -1/+1Yeah, let's give someone respect because he played the political game and "ran a good campaign"
- NightVortez, on 02/08/2008, -1/+1How does he threaten my child's future? The world isn't black and white Brad.
He actually did wonders for the economy in Massachusetts. - inactive, on 02/08/2008, -2/+2I see them all as neocons
- Brad324, on 02/08/2008, -1/+1this isn't survivor. This is your future, and your kids' future.
- NightVortez, on 02/08/2008, -1/+1So insulting/not showing respect for someone will secure my children's future?
- NightVortez, on 02/08/2008, -1/+1Well why not? He's an intelligent individual, evidently, a father, and a husband, why shouldn't we respect him? Because he has a different political view than us?
