Missouri cop caught on tape "I can make up nine things to arrest you"
video.google.com — This cop needs to be fired, and taught what the hell our Constitution is written for: to prevent things like this from happening!

- V3NOM, on 10/10/2007, -3/+263I really hope the guy that made the video files a complaint at the local police station. I know that when you have a bad day it might affect how you act at work, but that cop was literally looking for the slightest excuse to punch someone.
- Nudar, on 10/10/2007, -2/+106I hope to see this video on the news in a few days as well as this cop getting fired. I feel bad that his family will have to suffer but this country cannot afford to have cops like him patrolling our streets. It did seem like the cop was about to piss his pants when he heard that St. Louis paid the guy not to sue the city.
- positron, on 10/10/2007, -1/+55Cops don't get fired. They go on "administrative leave".
- KennMac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Cops here in NY ... If they themselves get a DWI, they're put into a "Rehabilitation" program which usually involves a one week personal vacation, and 2 weeks of "rehabilitation" where the officer is sent to a four star resort upstate NY where they participate in fun activities that do not involve alcohol. The go back home with a tan and resume duty.
- Metman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I happen to live in upstate NY and am just curious where I might find one of these places. (Not stating that it doesn't happen - just that I know of no such place for 'rehab'.)
- krebcycle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7You can get a tan in upstate New York?

- lordmetroid, on 10/10/2007, -1/+89The fact that police are out of control and threatens with arrests and whatnot isn't uncommon. What is uncommon is that it is caught on tape.
- Monk22, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24st. George is just outside st. Louis. there's an old guy that has been running ads for YEARS about this. he pays out of his own pocket because its so ridiculous. there's one road they sit on all day and bust people non stop for 2-3 miles an hour over its *****. ill try and find the commercial the old guy runs and get it up on the interwebs.
- Monk22, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3lol wrong speed trap, this one sucks too, same situation.
- 1776jedi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That speed trap is in Burn's Mill on hwy 30 west of High Ridge. I used to drive throught there from Eureka to get to work. I've seen that old guy fighting the good fight on tv late at night.
- Jonjonr6, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Every city has a location like that. Fortunately in GA, the state law says only a state trooper can pull someone over for going less than 10mph over the speed limit.
- seefresh, on 10/10/2007, -6/+2As they did me. I was pulled over on I85 around exit 14 near Alabama for going 79 in an a 70. My spedometer said 72, but that's another story. Then I proceeded to get arrested for less than a gram of pot. :(
- dclowd9901, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6You dumbass.
- KennMac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5You shouldn't have been doing much over 60 with pot in the car.
- bigdsinferno, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6yeah...definitely more to that story as people don't normally have their cars searched for 9 over on an interstate
- bpmdub, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2@ bigdsinferno I have been pulled over held there for an hour while they searched my car and called a drug dog in to search my car for driving too close to the yellow line in the center of the road I have not used any drugs in 9 years and have a clean criminal record so I can say if the cops are bored enough they will do anything
- aDJsavedmylife, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah I had 5 KG of heroin in my car so I decided to keep a low profile...ttint my windows and drive around at 80MPH in a 30 area..and then I GOT PULLED OVER :(
- picsectionpleez, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I refuse to drive in Georgia.
- 1776jedi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That explains why everyone in Georgia drives like a ***** maniac.

-Rag - DivisibleByZero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8What state was it where the guy got arrested for videotaping the cop giving him a ticket?
- logic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Florida, of course.
- blorc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17Filing a complaint is what he needs to do, yes, but we also need to do something. Submit this story to your local news stations. It takes 5 minutes and is extremely easy to do.
Don't let something like this happen without consequences. When these videos make their way to the Internet, we need to make sure there is follow up. Even if you don't live in Missouri, your local news station may still investigate/run the story, possibly even getting attention for it in Missouri when checking sources.
Help this guy out and get the story out there. - picsectionpleez, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Here is their website contact form. http://www.stlouisco.com/contact.html
- Nerfdude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3i got a 4 over speeding ticket in St. George once. and they took my physical license, i had to use my ticket as a license.
- fedorafans, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2file a complaint is only one side, I am curious if the local TV channel or newspaper will cover this, just checked kmov, nothing on their webpage.
So I think most probably the cop will go over this issue very quick and shows up on road in no time.

A lot of these cops are power crazy and this stuff needs to be put out there. More people should equip their cars with secure cams for this very reason. I know I'm going to.

This is NOT an isolated incident. The police have immunity from things that you and I would go to prison for.
Botched drug raid? Killed your grandmother on accident? Paid vacation!
Sometimes I wish I were a cop, just so that I could slow the rest of them down, or at the very least make them question what they do.
Sadly, the people who actually do wish to help people.. to become Peace Officers... rarely make it to the streets.- badfrog, on 10/10/2007, -7/+37The problem with being a cop, is I'd have to live on a cop's wages.
Which is kind of another scary thought... You don't get the best candidates with low wages.- djphatjive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20I know a couple cops, and there government employees, you can look up how much they make and its not bad, starting off here in denver its like 45,000 or something like that. Not bad for a little training and target practice.
- Spuy767, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15*****, I can already shoot better than any cop I've seen at the shooting range. I forget what it was, but I was at the range one day and these three cops were making fun of me for some damn thing, it was something I was wearing. Might have been that I was wearing shorts and flip flops to the range, something I regularly do. They had their fun, but they shut the ***** up when I ran 15 shots through the eyeball of a target at 25 yards. Probably a 1.5-2" group.
- OJdidntdoIT, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6They start off in Austin, Texas @ $54,000.
- Rustbelt, on 10/10/2007, -9/+1Yeah but cops are trained to do it when they're outnumbered and moving to avoid being shot themselves. There's quite a difference between the range and making the decision to draw and fire in less than a second.

- SpencerMc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Cops make a decent salary. The salary of prison guards, on the other hand, is below the poverty line. Isn't it comforting thinking that the only sort of person who would take the job is someone who is not doing it for the money, but for the "fringe benefits"?

- navitatl, on 10/10/2007, -5/+76Isolated incident, of course not. This stuff happens every day in every town in America. It almost feels like the only way to surely avoid going to jail wrongfully is to tape-record your whole life.
- AQMessiah, on 10/10/2007, -2/+32HA! You can't even do THAT in NY anymore. Time to take some power away from them.
- raytibbitts, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12What happened in NY?

Yeah right! I got searched for "guns and drugs" for no reason. What was I doing at the time?... I was parked at a city street around midnight talking on my cell phone (I didn't feel like using my bluetooth headset).
- raytibbitts, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12What happened in NY?
- j0keR, on 10/10/2007, -3/+36A surefire way to get your face smashed in is to allow a cop to know you're recording him. He'll beat the ***** out of you and take your camera. It's best to hide the camera and not tell them about it. Or wear a press vest or something.
- kyrios1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Nope, always have a shadow recording you recording them. You obviously don't watch many movies.
- spudnic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12You'd be surprised how members of the press get treated. Truth is most cops hate the press even more, you'd think you could just write an article about it, but you'd need incontrovertible proof, even then you aren't going to get any co-operation from the police after you do, and a lot of news is sourced from the police
- NSResponder, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19Better still, always travel with your attorney and a camera crew with a live uplink to fifty of your best friends around the world.
-jcr- brad3378, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1***** would hit the fan if this happened to an attorney.

- davidrools, on 10/10/2007, -30/+1This guy was a jerk and acted completely inappropriately.
However, cops do need some power to protect the rest of us. The criminals who have no respect for our lives and our property need to be shown a lack of respect, sometimes. Cops need to rough up the bad guys. Imagine if cops were completely civil to even the most lowlife criminals: the cops would be completely ineffective and the criminals would basically be free to go about their criminal activities as they wanted, leaving victims like you and I in their wake. So give cops some room to do their jobs, but yes, keep idiots like this guy in check.- raytibbitts, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20I call B.S. Some of the most intimidating and effective law enforcement practices can be COMPLETELY effective while still being civil.
Criminals have no respect for cops or the law, whether or not the police are polite.
Cops need to start erring on the side of NICE. - TheBinaryNinja, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Hmm, you work in law enforcement I'll bet.
- raytibbitts, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20I call B.S. Some of the most intimidating and effective law enforcement practices can be COMPLETELY effective while still being civil.
- da_bradler, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24The problem is cops seem to forget that they are serving us not the other way around. Police officers are given the privilege by us the public. there should be more overview on the police then any other agency I think since they are not elected and reap more benefits then they should. the police act like there in the army or something like they volunteered as opposed to being hired
- Rustbelt, on 10/10/2007, -8/+1Yeah, well, the public acts like a bunch of monkeys on caffeine a lot of the time too. I don't envy cops their job.
- ReadItAndWeep, on 10/10/2007, -2/+27Here is an example of what you are talking about.
This video shows a cop EXECUTE an Iraq War vet. In the video, the vet is lying on ground and the cop is standing over him with his gun drawn. The vet tells the cop he was in the military and that "he was on his side". The cop then asks him to get up off of the ground. The vet complies with the officer and begins to get up. Then, for no apparent reason, the cop shoots the guy three times. I guess simply arresting him would have been too much of a hastle.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8027854162700568157
ps. The cop was recently acquitted of all charges against him which arose from this incident.- AON99, on 10/10/2007, -8/+7Watch better versions of the video. There are ones without the annoying news bars sticking out in the picture, and which they have cleaned up the video contrast a bit to show things better. As the guy goes to get up he reaches inside his jacket. NEVER reach inside your jacket when a cop has a gun drawn on you unless he specifically tells you to. The cop had just been in a high speed chase with the car this guy was in, and so had reason to believe he was a 'bad guy'. Then the guy reaches into his jacket... I"m not at all saying the cop was correct to shoot him, but that they guy was terminally stupid to reach into his jacket when a nervous cop had a gun drawn on him.
- raytibbitts, on 10/10/2007, -12/+5You're stupid to mention it.
Stick with, "I"m not at all saying the cop was correct to shoot him," no buts. - mhensley1288, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1i guess making a mistake is a good reason to die at the hands of a trigger happy cop
- mhensley1288, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2i guess making a mistake is a good reason to die at the hands of a trigger happy cop
- AON99, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Who said it was a good reason to die? Is it stupid thing to do? YES. Is it a dangerous mistake? YES. People die from making stupid mistakes all the time. That doesn't make it good. Simply reality.
- JulioJuliopolis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I don't buy that explanation. If the cop really did think he had a weapon on him he would have searched him, not told him to get up.
- AON99, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Watch the video. The guy was on the ground, less than a foot from the car he was stopped in. Watch COPS or any other pictures of cops cuffing someone they pull over. They make them get away from the car before patting them down, so they can't reach back into the car (or under it) and grab a gun. I'm sure the officer was going to search him AFTER he got him away from the car, AND in handcuffs. At that point, it would be safe to search him. Cops have bad guys move well away from their cars, then get on the ground, then cuffed, then searcheed. It happens all the time.
- Infowarmachine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1ya thats a good point, if the guy had a gun the cop should have had him searched, not told him to get up and shot him
then yell shut the ***** up at him as he writhes in agony- AON99, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Once again, look at the video. They was on the ground, less than a foot from the car he was stopped in. - mpredosin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I couldn't believe it, but the cop really did get off. I hope they win the civil rights lawsuit.

- Sovereigndk, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5This is what happens when people get drunk on power.
This is NOT an isolated incident.
Yes, this is not limited to cops, you must include elected: City council members, Mayors, County Commissioners, Sheriff's, JUDGES, Representatives, Congress, President, and the worst of ALL, WORKERS for the IRS!!!!!!!! - markgl, on 10/10/2007, -8/+2then shut up and be a cop. then you'd see the crap they have to put up with everyday they're at work and your sitting in some office unaware of how craptastic the world can be everyday.
- Nerys, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1YEs they have to put up with a lot of crap that in NO WAY gives them ANY leeway in violating my rights. In fact if they are mentally UNABLE To balance getting the bad guys with respecting my rights I AM SORRY there license to kill should be REVOKED and they should be FIRED. ITs that simple. i feel NO mercy for police officers who abuse the POWER that we GRANT THEM. I do not care if they have families or children or lives. When you are given ULTIMATE POWER you MUST have ULTIMATE RESPONSIBILITY or you should NOT have that power. Period. End of Discussion.
- arial, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6A few years back a friend and I were on the strip checking out a few clubs/bars. While we were walking to a club my friend was telling me about a cop that lived on his street that had an old 1969 charger. As he was telling this story we passed a few cops who stopped us and started asking what we were saying about cops. My friend told him what he was saying and the cops put us against the wall and started to frisk us. As they were doing this they kept asking "Where's the joints? Are you guys hiding cocaine?"
After it was clear we had nothing on us they then begin to give us sobriety tests so they could try to nail us for public intoxication. We passed the tests no problem so the cops then run our names to see if we have warrants. Again we came up clean and they had to let us go but this was total harassment when did it become illegal to talk about cops? We weren't calling them "pigs" or anything like that my friend was just telling a simple story about a cop with a classic car.
We filed a complaint which of course we never heard back from. Give some people a little power and they will take total advantage of it.- GorfTron, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9"Give some people a little power and they will take total advantage of it."

- blqysmg, on 10/10/2007, -6/+189the trouble is that this is the way we live these days. There is ALWAYS an excuse to arrest someone. You and I break law just by leaving the house. If the cop is in a bad mood, then you can be framed ^H^H^H^H^H^H found to have drugs and a gun on your person or in your car. This is an almost automatic 5 year sentance. Yes, if you are a cute female celebrity who gets naked on camera, you get three days; if you are male and American, you get five to ten years, out in 4 if you keep your nose clean in prison. Welcome to America.
- gmprunner, on 10/10/2007, -32/+3"You and I break law just by leaving the house." What exactly are you doing as soon as you leave your house?
- theballdredge, on 10/10/2007, -2/+28disobeying a lawful order citizen, now on about your business before they black bag you. GPs point is that if the police want to arrest you, they can come up with a reason. what about that dude a couple days ago who bought something from circuit city, manager wouldnt let him leave so he called the cops, and the cop arrested HIM.
- gharding, on 10/10/2007, -4/+30Well my morning routine involves smoking crack, masturbating in front of children, and knocking over mailboxes.

- j0keR, on 10/10/2007, -2/+63If you've ever sped then you've broken the law. Not to mention there are laws that are designed to be catch-all. "Disorderly conduct." They can get you with that one for just walking down the street. Not to mention it's impossible to know every law. It's not even written in a language that you or I can understand.

- KUKBAHLAM, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Until not long ago, you could work your way through college. When I started in '87 my tuition for 15 hours was $384 (I still have the check.) When I left in '97, 15 hours cost about $1500. Because of this, I collected 323 hours and several degrees. For the first couple of years I whored at Wal-Mart. Later I became a bio-med tech. Spartan living and hard work used to count for something. I am sorry that this experience will not be possible in the future.
- KUKBAHLAM, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I took a criminal Justice class in college. I shared the back row with a 300+ lb, black, Japanese major and a white hippie (no offense to hippies, he was a good student.) We three became friends and consistently blew the curve trading the top grades amongst ourselves. The judge teaching the class was a great instructor and surprised me by knowing my name after 1 week. He told me later that the CJ majors kept asking him who was scoring so high. He kept quiet on the subject.
It never occurred to them to talk to the miscreants in the back row. We probably would have shared our notes or let them study with us. My point is, if you are in any other major and used to actual school work, you can walk into a CJ class and with minimal effort, ace the tests.
Even before they became policemen, these alleged students had formed stereo-typical perceptions that limited their thinking. Folks can say that police become closed minded and self-righteous after being on the job, but I tell you from experience, they were that way to begin with.- wishninja, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1awesome comment! On the contrary - at that point you'd have people with college degrees passing up better jobs to become a cop. At that point, you only get the people who REALLY want to be a cop - which, in general, is the group that you REALLY don't want being cops.
With mandatory degrees, you may weed out the morons, but I think you'll retain the smarter ones who are really there for the power trip. - gharding, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2I don't know either way, but I'd be inclined to say you don't legally have to. What law would it break? As long as he wasn't trying to arrest you (resisting arrest), I don't know what you'd be doing wrong. It also seems wrong that you'd have to get out if you were in an unsafe spot (side of a busy highway, etc) just because they wanted to talk or something.
- parax, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10What you'd be doing wrong is called "disobeying a lawful order". You have to do what a police officer orders you to do, provided the order is not illegal or unethical. Ordering someone to exit their vehicle is exactly in the scope of what a police officer can lawfully order someone to do. In the eyes of the law, it can be for a few reasons. First, the police officer's safety. The officer doesn't know what's in your car, so he's ordering you in the open so he can be certain you're not within reach of a weapon. Second, you could be trying to destroy evidence. Ordering you out of your car ensures you must discontinue any possible illegal actions.
Even though an officer can legally order you to exit your vehicle, it does not give him the right to search your vehicle.
Of course, the officer in this video obviously didn't have lawful intentions, he just wanted someone to bully. That's the Terry v. Ohio case, about unreasonable searches and seizures. A buddy says the case also covers things like having to get out of your car (or something similar). He says it basically boils down to reasonable suspicion (which is lesser than probable cause), and basically if you don't comply, you can get nailed for obstruction. I guess it's kind of a blurry line and hard to fight. - Cattrin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Might just be my area in Mass, but I don't think you have to get out of your car. If you feel intimidated or suspicious, you can dial 911 and they'll send along another cop to handle the situation. This is because of a number of cases where someone posed as a cop would pull over a woman driver, maker her get out, and then rape her or otherwise harm her.
Like I said, might just be my area. Might just be old or rumor. Haven't investigated yet, and I've only been pulled over for speeding so far so no need to be called out of my car. - mike17032, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I am not aware of any places you have a right to refuse to get out of your car. - holleyto, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5better to comply with officers orders, and later show his procedures to be a violation of your rights, than to take the chance that you may be wrong.
cops have the right to "stop and frisk," or a "terry stop," but only upon "reasonable suspicion." the kid was not driving in an unreasonable manner, and parking in that lot was not unreasonable. tho these don't add up a justified stop and frisk, and the officer was unjustified, you don't lose much in complying when you don't have anything to lose.
- holleyto, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5better to comply with officers orders, and later show his procedures to be a violation of your rights, than to take the chance that you may be wrong.
- DukeMojo, on 10/10/2007, -5/+3Then we'd see the pepper spray come out and the cop would have arrested him. Later while searching his vehicle for illegal drugs or weapons they would have found the camera and tape and tossed it, then given the offending cop a couple hours of "Sensitivity Training". Yah, resisting a cop is always the best course of action.
- bitcloud, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11I believe you can ask for clarification... not sure the exact wording, but i've heard they'll make statements like "would you mind getting out of the car" or "would you mind if we search the vehicle" which are prompts for voluntary cooperation...

- RobBaird, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17but isn't it bad enough that there are people in positions of power that /are/ like that? even if every cop isn't like that, it still sucks that there are some that are like that.
- gmprunner, on 10/10/2007, -10/+5Yes, of course, but what are you going to do? There are bad people and good people, and cops are people, therefore they will be good cops and bad cops. It's human nature. It's terrible and certainly isn't ideal, but it's nothing we have control over. Maybe to try and help the situation we can concentrate on recognizing and rewarding the good cops instead of just calling out the bad cops.
- onewingedangel9, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16"Yes, of course, but what are you going to do?"
Maybe have some check and balances so when a cop does do something bad, they are punished for it? - psion01, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9So ... perhaps one thing that could be done is to stop assuming that the cop is always right when matters come before a judge. We should also guarantee the right of any citizen to videotape any and all encounters with the police to be used as evidence of errors or abuse by the police. Finally, we should stop giving police officers unreasonable breaks when they are in violation of the law ... something a bit stiffer than a few weeks without pay when they beat handcuffed suspects into submission, for example.
- j0keR, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7They need to have their power as limited as possible, and we need to get rid of all the bad laws. When was the last time you heard of a cop catching a rapist or a murderer? I know I've heard of hundreds more that have abused their power than ones that have protected anybody. Even the good ones do far more harm than good because the laws are so out of control in this country. They all put people in jail for victimless crimes.
- quisph, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Put one bullet in a revolver and spin the cylinder. Chances are good (83%) that the next chamber is empty, but only a fool would trust these odds. If you're wrong, the consequences are dire. The smart thing to do is to assume that the next chamber is loaded. If you're wrong, no harm done.
Likewise, if a cop pulls you over, you have no way of knowing whether he's a "good" cop or a "bad" cop or somewhere in between. If you assume he's a "good" cop, answer all of his questions, comply with all of his orders, good luck to you. If you're wrong, the consequences are dire. The smart thing to do is to assume he's a bad cop, and be on your guard, doing only what is legally required. If you're wrong, no harm done.
- onewingedangel9, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16"Yes, of course, but what are you going to do?"
- IIIKrazyKiDDIII, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5This cop represents the law. He should represent it wisely.
- drakethegreat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I don't specifically remember being told that all cops are like this nor thinking that but thanks for assuming that for others. Just divert the subject from the problem which is this cop to make an insult on digg users. Way to go *****.
- drakethegreat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I don't specifically remember being told that all cops are like this nor thinking that but thanks for assuming that for others. Just divert the subject from the problem which is this cop to make an insult on digg users. Way to go *****.
- senatorpjt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The only other information I have to base that assumption on is, well, every time I've ever had to deal with a cop by their choice. The only time I've ever had a cop act reasonably is when I was in a minor car accident, and he took the accident report.
- RobBaird, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17but isn't it bad enough that there are people in positions of power that /are/ like that? even if every cop isn't like that, it still sucks that there are some that are like that.
- Nudar, on 10/10/2007, -8/+77Wow that is scary. That cop should be locked up for a long time in pound me in the ass federal prison.

- gmprunner, on 10/10/2007, -32/+10BTW does it ever cross anyone's mind that these could be fake, staged videos? I mean, after all, it is on Google Video, and we all know that anything basing police gets a ton of attention on the net.
- zclip, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I like next to St. George, doubt its fake. Those cops are ***** dicks like you've never met before. They'll pull you over for going like 2 miles over the speed limit. Everyone in the Saint Louis area avoids St. George like the plague.
- mike17032, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It crossed my mind. I cant put my finger on exactly what but the whole thing seemed to have an artifical quality to it.
- drakethegreat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Ya all those people who spend the time and money to get a fake cop car and uniform and then post it on Google Video so that they don't make any money. Makes perfect sense... or maybe I sense you are coming up with any excuse to escape the reality of our times and the abuse of power that exists.
- Castronaut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I don't recall seeing the officer at any point, nor the patrol car. Just the lights.
- Castronaut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I think at the point where they sound like two people at a coffee shop talking about civil rights casually was when I thought it was likely fake.
- BlacklabelSAR, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0What crossed my mind is that this "cop" should be shot, and hung up as an example of what happens when US citizens are pushed too far. It also crossed my mind that you are an authority-worshipping weak individual.

- senatorpjt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'd honestly rather have extra cops around, than one insane cop. The more cops that are around, the higher the chance that one of them will have scruples.
- WilliamDavis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14"I probably would have gotten in my car, rolled up the windows and called 911."

- epj3, on 10/10/2007, -2/+48This kind of stuff actually makes me feel sick to my stomach. It's far too common.
- dannyboy3020, on 10/10/2007, -45/+7You're all ***** bitches. I know a lot of cops and most of them are decent human beings. How many times do videos of cops saving people appear on digg (yes, it actually happens sometimes)? Digg me down. I don't give a *****.
- lewikee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24So you know some cops that aren't decent human beings? I think only decent human beings should be cops.
- hippykiller, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11I think the key phrase is "I know", of course they are not going to be ***** heads to you. But then again you probably agree with tactics like the ones we saw in this video.
- Castronaut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0He never implied that he agreed with the tactics in the video, just that some cops are decent human beings that save lives. But thanks for the completely illogical response.
- ripple123, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8I'm pretty sure the tv show cops balances out the digg cop videos by a ratio of 100 to 1. Never see these sort of videos on cops btw.
- Amablue, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9We have a show called Cops that's on all the time showing officers doing what they're supposed to be doing. Besides, what's the point of giving recognition to someone merely doing what they're supposed to be doing? It's the extreme cases of abuse like this that need attention so that we can stop them from happening again.
- whitey9, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Yeah, why don't they make a movie about all of the Hindenberg flights that made it? Why doesn't digg ever post stories about skateboarders not crashing? Or George Bush not lying? See where I'm going with this?
It's simply not interesting. People on digg can't possibly believe that all cops act like this. Settle down, spaz.- Castronaut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Plenty of people on digg believe that all cops act like this. Look at the comments. - havenophear, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0It's bad form to end a sentence with a preposition (for, to). A dangling participle is when you say "Dripping with gravy, the waiter brought me my mashed potatoes." That means the waiter was dripping with gravy.
- fbombs, on 10/10/2007, -7/+20What's more annoying: The clicking the entire video or the cop's voice?

Cops make up all kinds of things to get their way... watch "never get busted again"... good video. lol- hippykiller, on 10/10/2007, -6/+7It would seem your brother got off pretty light. If I where him I would not be complaining about what happened to the weed.
- NikoKun, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9duh... i was pointing out the corrupt cop... not how light my brother got off... XD
- NikoKun, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6I swear... people... Know your rights, don't give into bogus police threats... If you know your rights, and don't act like an *****, you'll be fine.
This cop should lose his job... And thankfully with this recording, you have good enough proof to make sure he loses his job...
He should be glad he didn't pull over me... I keep an audio recorder in the car at all times, as should everyone. I know my rights, and how I should act around a cop, and how not to let them get their way at the same time. Obviously in the end, you have to do what he says, but you can at least keep him from tricking you and getting around your rights. That way you can fight anything in court...- collectivescott, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Yeah, not acting like an ass was where this kid went wrong.
- gl77, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1also about the audio recorder or any recording device, check with your state or local laws about using them beforehand, some states require that the person being recorded is told that they are being recorded and gives consent for you to record them. otherwise, its not going to be admissible in court if it has to come to that. some states say it is unlawful to record without the other persons consent and you could get yourself into even more trouble.
- duerra, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I believe that's only over the phone. As the cop was so nice to point out - when you're in public, all is game.
- gl77, on 03/31/2008, -0/+3just to let you know, and i dont know the circumstances and details about your brother, but once a cop pulls you over, if he sees anything suspicious in the car, if anything is in plain view, he has the right to search the vehicle without a warrant, it's called probable cause. but if, in fact, the weed was not in plain view and the officer did not see it before hand, then he has no right to search. just a bit of information im throwing out there.
- TheKillDoctor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1All they have to do is say they smelled pot and all bets are off and your vehicle will be torn to shreds to find any damn thing they want to search for that may be illegal. In other words there really is no such thing as probable cause, it's their word against no one. They do not have to see something in order to perform a search.
- gl77, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1thats true, i remember my sister getting pulled over for parking on the wrong side of the street once when i was in the car and the cop wanted to smell a bottle of mountain dew that was in the car that she was drinking because the cop said that it "may have been alcohol". then he wanted to search the trunk for some reason, didnt find anything, but i thought that it was *****.

- anti_hax0r, on 10/10/2007, -46/+5Yeah, that kid is a punk. He should always comply, I bet he would be pissed if he came back to his car and it was broken into. The cop is trying to be pro-active. This happens to everyone when they are young. You respect the cops or you get messed with.
Running around in a car with video camera running - looking for trouble.- unpaidbill, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24running around in a car with a video camera running is looking for trouble? interesting, are you a cop perhaps? obviously this guy should have had a car in his camera because that cop freaked the ***** out. when that cop realized he had a camera running he shut the ***** up and started acting like a human. when he first pulled that kid over the cop was acting like gods gift to the world. justified camera use, everyone should have one in their car.
- Fordi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17Sorry, dude, but the kid *was* complying. Did every thing the cop said. You're telling me he's not allowed to ask questions?
- brokencrystal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10This cop's behavior was unacceptable! Also, the 20 year old "kid" was using his turn signal as shown in the video. The cop was lying. Lock him up and take away his badge!
- onisamsha, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"looking for trouble"
Either this is the trolliest or stupidest comment i've read so far today. How any sane, competently intelligent person could say he was looking for trouble by doing nothing illegal and only asking the cop what was due him by the bill of rights is beyond me. But i guess you're not one of those types. - letsgopens2006, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1you call if being proactive, I call it being a fascist pig.

- wasteofmylife, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3how was the guy who got pulled over a punk jerk? he has the right to refuse to show id if he isnt doing anything wrong.
- senatorpjt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1You don't have the right to refuse to show ID if you're driving a car. (that's why it's called a "driver's license"). However, he never refused to show ID.

- brownmajik, on 10/10/2007, -40/+5Seriously, people... cops have a lot more ***** to deal with than your dumbass acting smart. I see these videos of skateboarders posting videos about cops being mean to them... don't break the law and comply with the authority. It's people who try to be smart asses that get it in the ass and post ***** videos on internet. Did you not hear the cop's explanation? There are robberies and suicide attempts in that parking lot, he was merely checking up on the kid, but the kid came off as a smart ass, and that's why he lost it. Digg me down, but I don't blame the cop.
- TheWeirdTurnPro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18you part of the problem
- Amablue, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22That's a BS excuse. He stopped the kid in the parking lot when he'd done nothing wrong. He asked what he'd done and the cop flips out. Then the cop starts telling him that he can make up stuff to put him in jail for. He wasn't a smart ass at all when the cop flipped out. That was just to cover his own ass. The kid had every right to be there. Presence in a public place is not inherently suspicious nor is ti probable cause.
- DavidGX, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Since you told me too, I dugg you down.
- DannyBoy7783, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6please go fall in a well
- stlouisx50, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Thats BS dude, The cop clearly said no one was in the parking lot at the time. So how the hell was he going to rob someone or break into a car with out a car there? Also Like I said before this cop was not in his jurisdiction!
- j0keR, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9If it was against the law to hid Jews, would you be suggesting that people don't break the law and comply with authorities? Cops shouldn't harass people. Ever. And it's illegal to follow unconstitutional orders, the constitution being the highest law of the land which trumps all other laws. But they follow unconstitutional orders all the time. And it's not illegal to be a smart ass. Cops should leave skateboarders alone unless they suspect them of a crime.
- Jyff, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4go back to iraq
- Fordi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Though, apparently, they have nothing better to do than stake out an empty parking lot. What the ***** is wrong with you?
- shanevendrell, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5God damn, you have to be one naive son of a bitch. Cops make up stories ALL THE TIME to get you to do what they want you to do. I have been stopped before saying a car with my description as well as me and my passenger was reported to have robbed an Eckerd's around the corner (was not in news, drove right by it, no cops there at all). I have been stopped having cops telling me the same thing except the crime was a drive by shooting. Also have been told the ssame thing when I was without a car and had to ride my bike to work, and was told something similar except there had been burglaries. All of these were made up stories because they wanted to search me not based on any sort of reasonable evidence but just because of the "hunch" (Which basically boils down to for some reason I do not like that person therefore they must be bad)
- Leomarth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Having worked in law enforcement myself for nine years, I call ***** on you. It doesn't matter what kind of an attitude you get from someone, you are supposed to be a professional.
- onisamsha, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2So now PARKING YOUR CAR is a suspicious offense in your eyes....dear lord.
"cops have a lot more ***** to deal with than your dumbass acting smart." ..... Yep, that cop had a busy schedule of verbally abusing citizens and pulling people over for BS reasons cause he had an "I'M A BADASS" complex and wants to be a hero.
Oh, nice try, but skateboarders have nothing to do with a traffic stop. Those don't have engines silly. - ElectricDoodie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2He only told him that there were suicides and robberies after the fact that he found out there was a camera in the car. Before that, he was insanely flipping out.
- Bootes, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Well I stopped watching half way through cause I need to go to class, but I agree. Sure the cop got kind of annoyed, but at least where I got in the video he had calmed down. I'm not saying every police man is great or anything, but the kid deserved to be yelled at.
- IIIKrazyKiDDIII, on 10/10/2007, -16/+10Dont judge all police because of this man's actions (and many other policeman's actions). This particular guy does need to be fired. Constitution needs to be upheld.
- cheviot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9The problem is the so called "good cops" are the ones that would never testify against this cop if they knew what he was up to. They suddenly don't recall a thing when it comes time to testify against a bad cop.

- Vindexus, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3How the hell are you being dugg down? How is "don't judge everyone in one group based on the actions of one of its member" worthy of being dugg down?

- williamdyer, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Because nobody has found a decent cop yet.
- MindTrigger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3This is is very common. In my home town in Oregon, the cops would routinely pull my friends and I over and lie saying it was because our headlights were off. They know they can say ***** like "your headlights were off" or "you didn't use your turn signal" and they will beat you in court every time. Cops are considered expert witnesses in court, and your word means ***** against them.
As for camera usage, you all should realize that it won't be long before video taping in public without a permit will be illegal. They are already trying this in New York, and it will spread. Tapes like this one are one of the main reasons. They don't want us recording their tyranny and sharing it with others.
- cheviot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9The problem is the so called "good cops" are the ones that would never testify against this cop if they knew what he was up to. They suddenly don't recall a thing when it comes time to testify against a bad cop.
- Protector, on 10/10/2007, -8/+11Wow. Just send this to the DA, the local newspapers and to MSNBC, along with his badge number, name... then ask for a copy of the video he threatened you with. It may not exist, this cop is wasting way too much time on some guy sitting in a commuter lot. Trying to show who's boss. And dear god, get a different camera. Beyond that, I'm suspect of anyone who readily videotapes the happenings around their car as it pertains to cops. Yes, there are bad ones, but who the hell really drives around videotaping in real time.
- superdoofus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20"Beyond that, I'm suspect of anyone who readily videotapes the happenings around their car as it pertains to cops."
land of the ***** free and home of the brave, dimwit. if i want to drive around with a camera in my car for whatever reason i might have, it's my business. - Fordi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17Someone who's been abused by the police before. Listen to the goings on; seems he was assaulted by an officer before, and the City of St. Louis actually *paid* him not to sue.
- senatorpjt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Unfortunately, they'd never show this video on TV because of all that goddamn clicking.

- hippykiller, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25I just watched a video on CNN.com about Americas most dangerous jobs and cop was not one of them.
- j0keR, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22Exactly. People need to stop acting like police are heroes. They're just hired guns that carry out the corrupt government's dirty work. Sometimes they clean up and file paperwork after a crime has occurred. The supreme court has upheld time and time again that the police have no duty to protect individuals. Don't believe me?

And I garentee that if you were ever in trouble, real trouble, that the cop car pulling up will be on of the happiest sites you ever see. - Castronaut, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Sometimes they capture murderers, rapists, and thieves too. I'm not saying the legal system is perfect, but I'm definitely not saying that your extremely immature and paranoid view is correct either.
- j0keR, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Very. Rarely. When the government "succeeds" at doing something it usually costs ten times as much as it should have. If your wife send you out to buy a car and you come back having spent ten times average sticker price, she'd consider you a failure. Why do we let government claim a success when they always go over budget? Sure, they caught the DC sniper, but do you remember how long it took them? How many millions of dollars do you think was spent for them to drive around looking like they were busy? If there were more free market ways to profit from hunting down criminals a la bounty hunters, things would be much more efficient. Security guards and body guards should take the places of more police officers as well. Real people with market incentives who can be held accountable for their actions will always do a better, more efficient job. They shouldn't be absolutely trusted either, but I don't think that would be a problem. You don't find people in today's world idolizing security guards like they're some sort of heroes like you do with the police. Most people just look at them as some guy doing his job, which is supposed to be what the police are-- though in practice that isn't the case.

- jmp2071, on 10/10/2007, -1/+33Every cop in Missouri is like that. I'm from Saint Louis and have yet to meet a cop(and I've met a lot) that isnt a crazy hillbilly. I think being a nutjob is a requirement to be a cop in the state. They all think they are god and should be treated like so. The young cops who have something to prove are the worst. They ***** with people for absolutely no reason. The cops in the area I live are the main reason i'm moving out of state. ***** Missouri
- gl77, on 03/31/2008, -0/+5i'm currently getting my associate's degree in criminal investigation and one of my teachers is a former st. louis cop, he was also a cop in a small town in south georgia before retiring and becoming a teacher. you are absolutely right though, he's a good teacher, but most of the stuff he says i take with a grain of salt because he acts like he was god's gift to the police force. im sure when he was on the beat he must have been a real *****.
- ApokalypseNow, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2I've really only met one cop from the St Louis area, a Lt... something-or-other from the Creve Coeur department. He, at least, was a decent guy.
- DooM, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1My nephew is a thick-necked jack ass - he announced he's decided to become a police officer in St. Louis and I can't say I'm surprised. He'll be ***** you up on the streets in no time.
- computergod, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Looks like ApokalypseNow is getting dugg down for daring to suggest that some police officers might not be assholes. Nice.
- intense321, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I totally agree with this regarding Missouri's police force. I am always very polite to the officer if I get pulled over for speeding, changing lanes without signal, whatever. I had a Missouri cop physically kick my car just because I told him that I didn't think that I was speeding (48 in a 35). He then wrote me a ticket and sped off spinning his tires. I was glad he got away from me. I was afraid his crazy fishtailing driving would cause an accident.

- Bklynadam, on 10/10/2007, -26/+1Why was this kid riding around with a camera in his car? Why did he pull into the lot when he obviously saw the cop right there ar the turn? This guy knew what he was doing, and what he was doing was looking to taunt the police. Can't people just mind their own buisness and just be law-abiding, peaceful people?
- DannyBoy7783, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16Some intelligent individuals mount cameras in their car so when ***** like this happens they can PROVE it. He probably turned the camera on as soon as he saw the cop. It's probably recorded to a digital medium so what does he care if he turns it on for something dumb. it's not wasted film. If I had one I'd turn it on the second I thought a cop was going to pull me over.
- mrsammercer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Yeah it was obviously a sting. A sting that recorded a cop being completely out of line. On a scale of ***** attitude that kid gave him about a 3 out of ten for like 2 sentences and the cop proceeded to completely lose his ***** and talk to him abusively. Cops need to be more thick skinned than that. And you know maybe have some ***** social skills and avoid escalations rather than try to create them.
- superdoofus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12what difference does it make as to why he had a camera going? it's his ***** right as a free american citizen to do so.
- Ademuth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Why do you or anyone else care why this kid was riding around with a camera in his car? Why did the cop follow him into the lot when he was obviously not doing anything wrong? This cop knew what he was doing, and what he was doing was looking to taunt the young kid. What? He supposed to run from the cops when he's doing nothing wrong? Sure, I think avoiding the police as much as possible is a great idea, but it's not supposed to be like that.

So, at a party last year 2 of the girls began a discussion about racial stuff and penis size. Given their jobs, these people see a lot of penis. So eventually someone says something to the effect of "asian men = small penis" and the one girl laughed and said no, race doesn't matter, and added that THE ONLY MEN WHO CONSISTENTLY HAVE SMALL PENISES ARE POLICE OFFICERS. Several other people chimed in to agree, and apparently this is a running joke in the medical world or something because virtually everyone there chimed in to agree, and they were all doctors or nurses or whatever at this hospital.

- stlouisx50, on 10/10/2007, -0/+61First off, I know this is a real story and the tape has not been edited or staged. Just go to www.speedtrapexchange.org and see the post there from years and years of how corrupt the town of St. George, Missouri is. The truth is the cop was sitting out of his venue. From the first part you can see where the officer has pulled in the middle of the street when my friend has tried to go around him he has to swerve because the officer is parked blocking the street to the commuter parking lot. Also notice you can see the blinkers used the two times that the officer says they were not used. The officer used the reason swerving and no turn signal numerous times. Which is a total lie! Besides that my friend never got loud mouthed to the cop, never threatened the cop, and never provoked the cop to get violent. I for one like good cops, but the bad ones shown in this video really ruin the appearance of what a professional public servant should be like.
A little more back ground of this city. In 2001 the city was busted on not reporting the revenue that was actually generated and reported less... In 1983 the chief at the time got arrested for placing a car bomb on someones car. The current chief got suspended without pay when he was on the Arnold Police Department back in 2000. The cities police station is a tiny house inside a subdivision.- rickpdx, on 10/10/2007, -2/+79I am a lawyer (transactional, not trial) and had a basic belief that our police were good, honest people...until I got pulled over for breaking a traffic law that I knew wouldn't go into effect until Jan 1 of the following year (this was in mid-Dec). I completely complied with everything the officer said as he wrote the ticket, knowing that it would serve my interests to listen and not speak. Once he left, I immediately took out a notepad and wrote down everything that happened, with date, time and details. I contested the ticket, of course, and went to trial. Once there, I made my case, with photos, citations to law, and ending with a motion to dismiss. Then I encountered something I never expected to have happen: the fat pig lied under oath and m
