- djfreex, on 10/11/2007, -27/+298I just watched this. This was one of the most refreshing things I have seen on CNN ever. Micheal Moore is the MAN! Booyah.
Awaiting a celebrity death match Sanjay Gupta vs Micheal Moore - siszam, on 10/11/2007, -16/+199Moore just said what the majority of Americans probably thinks. CNN is almost as bad as Fox news and spews propaganda. Wolf admitted CNN is a business, as if that justifies their kissing up to pharmaceutical companies and not presenting Americas disgraceful health care system for the immoral flop that it is. At least CNN admits profit is a big consideration when presenting their version of facts. Moore tore them up!!
- elliepal, on 10/11/2007, -18/+171Go, Mike, Go! CNN should be getting ripped like this daily.
- FrameShift, on 10/11/2007, -21/+130I've never wanted to have sex with a fat scotsman from michigan before today.
That was beautiful. - reddevil3, on 10/11/2007, -12/+112Nowhere in the movie does Moore point out that Cuba only spends "$25 per person." In fact I think he does say that it's $225 per person.
***** CNN. - graphikjunkie, on 10/11/2007, -15/+91That was frakking priceless. I love it. I want to live in an age where everyone is as clued in as Micheal Moore about what's really going on. CNN and Fox don't present the news - it's just another kind of fluoride for the masses.
- sockpuppets, on 10/11/2007, -13/+87Lou Dobbs is such a douche.
- XBarbarian, on 10/11/2007, -17/+91Huge Bravo to Michael Moore.
Please give us all a break, those that criticize him using such intelligent arguments as " well... he's fat! OMG" wtf?
The point is, he speaks truth to power. God Bless Michael Moore, and Death to the traitors destroying this nation. - shraud, on 10/11/2007, -16/+85That was so f'in awesome. Yeah, baby! Yeah! Take it Wolfie, you bad media whore you.
- mardukvmbc, on 10/11/2007, -9/+66Wolf says "This is a business"... no freakin' kidding. You're being SOLD news, people!
Just like you've been sold the Iraq war.
Go Michael... at least we're getting someone willing to speak out against the $$$ media. - worldinmyeyes, on 10/11/2007, -3/+58Traitors to America's people: CNN, FOX, ABC, NBC, CBS, et al.
- michaelfrankie, on 10/11/2007, -5/+60This is what happens when Five media conglomerates — Viacom/CBS, Disney, Time Warner, News Corp. and NBC/GE — control the big four networks, and 80 percent of the prime time television market share.
I have to go now and see what GE wants me to know about the world tonight. - arTech, on 10/11/2007, -9/+56When you have no facts to beat him, call him fat!
- malted, on 10/11/2007, -5/+49dugg because michael moore just said everything to wolf blitzer that i've been wanting to say to every single television "journalist" for nearly eight years.
- fuzzmeister, on 10/11/2007, -4/+48Which brings up a good point: the most honest and balanced news sources are quite often the ones that don't have to worry about making a profit, such as the BBC, NPR, or PBS.
- cyborg, on 10/11/2007, -9/+53Did anyone hear Lou Dobbs and Cafferty at the end there? F**k them both for those cheap shots on Mike. He had great points and they just began spewing more propaganda as soon as Moore was off the air.
- 10001110101, on 10/11/2007, -7/+48My money is on Moore. That's a lot of angry director to have coming at you..
- jwestmore, on 10/11/2007, -6/+46First, yes, it was crappy of CNN to run a 3 minute puff piece "debunking" michael moore right before his interview. But in their defense, they gave more plenty of time to respond to it, live no less. They could have gone to commercial break early but they let him have his say.
That being said, it was fun watching Moore rip them and they definitely deserved it. - Veurruckte, on 10/11/2007, -5/+41Now Michael Moore just needs to take on O'Reilly.
- thehype2049, on 10/11/2007, -11/+43i dont always agree with moore, but sicko was a great documentary to watch, im canadian make me fele lucky to be too. He rip's cnn
- rarson, on 10/11/2007, -3/+34Wow. I wasn't really expecting a lot from Moore, but he was scathing! I just cannot believe Wolf's comment about "this is a business." It's almost like he's saying "Yeah, we pander to drug companies but we have to to make as much money as we can."
*****. What a ***** mess. - Benrussell, on 10/11/2007, -11/+42Wouldn't him being obese give his criticisms of healthcare more validity?
If you disagree with what he has to say then offer something to refute it, instead of trying to draw some weak and ineffective parallel to discredit him without actually being able to respond to what he's saying. - neoform, on 10/11/2007, -8/+39He is definitely one sided, but on these issues, he's not misleading.
- jacobpark, on 10/11/2007, -12/+43***** awesome. GO MICHAEL GO!!!!
- EssPii, on 10/11/2007, -5/+35Sure he is one sided... but he is right. Look at what the other side said in defense of Moore's allegations in Fahrenheit 9/11 3 years ago, and look now how he was right and they were wrong (or spinning the truth). Now look at what 'the other side' is doing with Sicko... same thing. It'll be nice to look back on this in three years...
- xrenjrvt, on 10/11/2007, -2/+32What's the other side? The drug companies are not gouging people, HMO's look after people, and insurance companies didn't make record profits?
- Onetrack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+29Well I have a couple examples, as a canadian in a relatively small city. My mother in law slipped on her walk and broke her elbow, she was taken to emergency, signed in, xrays were taken within a half hour, that night a specialist saw her, and she had surgery, total wait time, about 2 hours. Plus shes been able to see the doctor several times, for follow up and therapy on her arm and has had 6 paid weeks off work for recovery ( she is a secretary )
Cost of the operation $0.00
My nephew just had a sore stomach, his mom took him to the doctor who diagnosed it as appendicitis, she was able to go straight to the hospital emergency to see a doctor, but she could have gone to any of the free clinics around. Surgery was scheduled for the next afternoon, they would have done it that night, but since his white cell count was high the nurses wanted to pump him with antibiotics to ease swelling. Next morning he had his surgery, was kept in the hospital for about 4 hours after for observation and sent home (it was only keyhole surgery so a very small incision. )
Total cost.. $0.00
My medical costs, for 100% insured medical and dental are about 18.00 per month for my wife and I.. that covers any emergency surgery, any elective surgery, any hospital fees, any ambulance rides.. anything. Last year I had hernia surgery, was off work fully paid 100% for 6 weeks recovery, i was up and ready to go back after a week but my doctor wanted me to rest. So I spent my time working on friends pcs during the day to keep my sanity. All in all I had enough time to rest and recharge, never had to worry at all about my bills or rent being unpaid, got world class service from the medical staff, had a maximum wait time of about 2 hours while they scheduled me in for observation.
There is no way Id ever move to the states with your rediculous HMOs and being told which hospital or which doctor. It wouldnt matter where I was in canada, if I have an issure, Im covered. 18 bux a month off my paycheque. No problem.
Oh .. last year I had 2 gold crowns on my teeth done, my dental pays 50% of major, which it was, my wifes plan does to, since we are married I could combine plans, 2 crowns, 100% coverage of 1700.00, I paid $0.00
Face it USA, your health care system is screwed up. - Kupe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+29You're right. At 1:46:29 in the movie, Moore says this:
"In the US, health care costs run nearly $6,000 per person; but in Cuba they spend only $251."
***** Sanjay Gupta. I'm not even going to look up how to correctly spell his name. - graphikjunkie, on 10/11/2007, -6/+34If he's a liar: prove it. Saying he's fat is just evidence that you think with your eyes instead of your brain.
- leidendude, on 10/11/2007, -2/+25http://www.michaelmoore.com/sicko/news/article.php?id=10017
- grunk, on 10/11/2007, -9/+31I watched it live. Moore sucker punched Wolfie. I not a fan of Michael Moore, but this was great.
- Profitsee, on 10/11/2007, -7/+29After seeing this display of sensationalism, doesn't it appear that CNN pulled a Fox News out of the hat? Fox "news" is like eye candy for the old sterotypes of war and powerful, creating this false high of appearing justified, or morally right, in this essentially media-sucking black hole. CNN just did what Fox news did: goad michael moore into a frenzy. Moore even was more frenetic in front of the stoic, "jouranlistic" Wolf Blizter. If you haven't figured it out yet, Wolf Blitzer wins the academy award for pretentious news authority. Moore was correct in assigning CNN the trophy of utter uselessness of journalism. Ironically, Blitzer, ever so calmly, boasts with ease about how CNN "is a business". Wasn't this like flipping the bird off to the audience? If you disagree with Moore, you should hate him for his lack of awareness to how CNN was simply using him as a tool for ratings. Its just a game to CNN. They even played the card about "inviting him [ Moore ] to multiple interviews and he declined." He just sat there quiet. CNN has taken the art of Fox News and regurgitated it into a the same dull conventional (or dull sensationalism) journalism, no different than quality informercials and game shows. CNN: counting the needs of penniless opinions so that they add up. If you had an issue pro or against Moore on CNN, without knowing the facts, consider yourself a sponsor to the imagination of these *****.
- bm8631, on 10/11/2007, -1/+23Actually he commented on Larry King recently that when he started filming he decided to start practicing what he preached... so far he's gone on daily walks, eaten healthier, and has lost 30 pounds... you can notice the difference between now and 3 years ago.
- Lucavious, on 10/11/2007, -3/+24Don't be an idiot. You can't contribute to a worthwhile cause if you don't even know the issue exists. This film exists to educate, not to solve problems.
- smackywentz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+21Moore's rebuttals to Dr. Gupta
http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/latestnews/index.php - skaughtm, on 10/11/2007, -2/+21um, michael moore is not a hollywood director in any way shape or form. he's from flint michigan and he made his major debut with mirimax which is heavily based and sprang out of new york in the mid to late 80's. harvey weinstein can be anything but hollywood at times and that goes for michael moore as well. dont try to lump a director in with the filth that flows from hollywood simply for the fact he's a filmmaker.
- bm8631, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19NPR rocks... but moving from NY to the Southwest I notice the difference in NPR affiliates. NY NPR had hard-hitting news that was the most balanced I've ever heard... here in the Southwest that programming has been opted out of and replaced with happy feel good Chicano music. I guess certain parts of America can't handle having to think about the world around them.
- jdibiase, on 10/11/2007, -3/+22From where are the fat scotsmen you usually want to have sex with?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+22and the United States is...what is it now, 9 trillion in debt, because of it's ***** policies, systems and war?
- darienphoenix, on 10/11/2007, -2/+19Read his website. He has a very specific point-by-point coverage of the things Sanjay Gupta said about 'Sicko', which shows how much bull**** Gupta was spewing when he said Sicko 'fudged facts'. The reason he was 'rightly' flustered was because he was pissed off by CNN, and major media, constantly being on a quest to show his films as less than true. This sort of issue is too important for these media goons to blanket it with nitpicking, even if Gupta DID have any good points.
As for questioning, the problem is that CNN is more concerned about pulling apart Michael Moore's movies than asking why the hell the USA is in such a sorry state to begin with. Moore was spot on in his criticism of Wolf. - ColinCampbell, on 10/11/2007, -2/+19I'd like to add the CBC from Canada in with those names as well. One of the best North American-based television news networks.
- dabears1218, on 10/11/2007, -10/+26How is the same exact story on the front page of digg, one story apart, both at the same time? Come on people...
- Sabotage, on 10/11/2007, -10/+24Where is Moore's follow-up post on his website he promised?
- icewater, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14It's been a while since I've felt so good being Canadian but SICKO made me feel just warm all over. I've never had a problem with our health system for the 50 years I've been here. I feel SO bad for the average American who has to go through the denial cycle. Get rid of the lobbyists now and then get rid of the private insurers. Profit over health...I just can't fathom that from where I live.
Sure glad I'm here and not there. - graphikjunkie, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15See, when you're not just making pointless comments about his weight you do have an actual opinion, and that's a good thing, whether I agree with it or not.
- knomevol, on 10/11/2007, -7/+20little baby listen. stick a pacifier in your mouth and SCROLL PAST IT.
- feckineejit, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15yeah we're all michael moore's friends - you're so smart.
- notque, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14Democracy Now! is significantly better than NPR or BBC
- DynamiteMonkey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12I'm guessing you're from a country that doesn't have free health care. Stop talking out of your ass, I don't know a single Canadian who would prefer your health system. Many of us flat out cancel out the idea of even moving there for that reason alone. Now go back to your ignorant little shell.
