- brothaslide, on 04/05/2008, -55/+224California has one of the largest economies in the world - we should give California back to Mexico so it can be run into the ground and turned into a third world state by the corrupt Mexican government.
- Baroliche, on 04/05/2008, -38/+196It will be interesting to see if the increase in sales in Mexico is offset by the losses in the US when Americans are made aware of this add.
- ZandorMonkeyBoy, on 04/05/2008, -133/+258No more Absolut in my house. Switching to Stoli tonight.
- Chipmonker, on 04/05/2008, -54/+160Hah! Absolut lost my money. I wonder if they are running a "Deutschland uber alles" campaign in Germany?
- ieataquacrayons, on 04/05/2008, -28/+120So a company runs an ad campaign that is offensive to some but witty to others. Doesn't this happen all the time? If it was the other way around most of you would be enjoying it. Go ahead and digg me down but I think I am on point.
- riverrunner, on 04/05/2008, -23/+110I for one welcome our Absolut Mexican overlords
- orlandorays, on 04/05/2008, -26/+102Smirnoff and Seagrams in the United States are both produced in the United States.
Just for those who want to express themselves with their wallet. I myself don't drink. - protodon, on 04/05/2008, -25/+97Even if they did have all that land they'd still be trying to get into the the US.
- mikesbaker, on 04/05/2008, -30/+96This map makes me angry for some reason... oh yea thats right I'm from Texas.
- inactive, on 04/05/2008, -18/+84This is the best ad for Skyy Vodka that I've ever seen!
- Vostok, on 04/05/2008, -14/+77The territory we took from Mexico was simply claimed by them, more Native Americans lived in the territory then Mexicans. During the war we occupied Mexico City. We could have taken the entire country but we just took the parts they were not using. So Mexican claims to the territory are rather mute to begin with.
- pipdip, on 04/05/2008, -8/+67What's next? An ad showing England still owning US land?
- raisinbrainMMM, on 04/05/2008, -22/+73Wow, you people are bitchier than my ex-girlfriend. It's an ad, a joke meant to grab your attention.
- kingofinternet, on 04/05/2008, -11/+60but stoli is made in commie russia
- uiguy3, on 04/05/2008, -18/+55I find it rather comical that nearly all comments above me have taken this ad way too seriously. It's an ad people. It's marketing to a specific demographic (Mexicans) to increase company profits. You all are overreacting.
- Steven8890, on 04/05/2008, -1/+37I wonder what the Native American map looks like? Probably no borders.
- lostarchitect, on 04/05/2008, -20/+56seriously? that's pathetic.
- stonedthot, on 04/05/2008, -4/+38Yeah, no offence america but sitting here on the other side of the pond, it really looks like you can't take a frikkin joke.
- Zap2, on 04/05/2008, -21/+55I think its funny...come on, the idea of this happen is out of this world, its not going to happen, so I think its funny
- inactive, on 04/05/2008, -18/+50"This Ad is nothing more than ATTACK on United States"
Do you realize how goofy that looks to us sane people? - h4k0r, on 04/05/2008, -14/+44The ad could back fire on them, Mexicans planning on sneaking across would have a much further distance to go....
- kratsnitram, on 04/05/2008, -9/+38Mexico is part of North America, not South America, fool. South America begins around the Panama/Colombia border. Please people! Understand basic geography!
- keithgplayer, on 04/05/2008, -12/+41I don't think everyone around here would be happy if the marketing campaign had a picture of the world with every continent labeled as USA. and the slogan being "An Absolut World." They are free to make this political statement, just as I'm free not to buy their product anymore.
- Fiber, on 04/05/2008, -25/+51I don't see the problem either. It's an ad made for mexico, it isn't running in the US. From a marketing standpoint it's great, it's just not the best from our view. It's just an ad anyway, no real political power. It's supposed to make you go "hah" and thats it. Stop looking for things to be mad at, imo.
- lostarchitect, on 04/05/2008, -6/+31it's a joke.
- 1o23r, on 04/05/2008, -12/+37U R an Idiot. I am ashamed that American Patriotism is synonymous with stupidity and historical amnesia.
- Observant1, on 04/05/2008, -31/+56the tax exempt Ford foundation has spent millions teaching south americans that a large part of the US belongs to them, "Aztlan". "La Raza" (the race, racism) "reconquista" (that they retake it by force or invasion). the first time I saw this ad and objection to it was infowars / prisonplanet websites. our own government plans to use sonic cannons that make people nauseous, and beams that cause burning pain, against protestors and demonstrators, but the border remains wide open with Mexican military often onto US soil helping illegal immigrants and drug smugglers get across the border, even shooting at our border patrol. they COULD use those cannons and beams at the borders as a border fence, but the idea is more fun to use them on citizens? there is a lot of information about the reality, this ad by Absolut, is an insult. so many are here and coming here illegally working for cash and receiving other benefits, that it IS harmful. Michael Moore told us years ago Pillsbury got an 11 million dollar corporate welfare grant for the pillsbury doughboy to say "teehee bueno" in south america, as if pillsbury couldnt afford their own advertizing campaign there maybe? this ad is like blatant bragging about what is happening as a result of promoting racism.
Mexico is some of the richest and best lands in the world, for natural resources as well as human resources. if there wasnt so much corruption there and people were earning decent wages I tend to think they wouldnt even want to be here, and when they DO come here they dont want to become a registered slave to this system, which really isnt much better than the one they already know from where they lived before, and on that I cannot blame them a bit. I dont buy into the promoted racism, induviduals are cool or they arent regardless of "color", but I get offended at all the commercial signs in the hardware store are all large letters in spanish above, with smaller letters underneath in english. I get offended at the public schools making the primary language spanish. this does not make me a racist, ciitizenship requires 5 years naturalization and learning the language, if theyre here illegally but are cool people, able read, write, and speak english, I probably wouldnt know or care anyway, thats their own business about how they behave, and what they may face if caught. if they're uncool I dont want em around and it has nothing to do with where they were born or what particular "ethnic branch" of the ONE human race they may be grouped to. one planet, one human race with many cultures... but I do NOT want one world government, is what the NAFTA and SPP/NAU are making happen. turning the US into a cheap labor farm, using a very corrupt (mexico) cheap labor farm and racism to help do it. I'd rather see the corruption in Mexico and the US fixed. - stonebear, on 04/05/2008, -3/+27I think you meant to say mafia Russia.
- whataboutdave, on 04/05/2008, -5/+28Everything is relative. The US may not be free of corruption, but where would you rather start a business? I have a feeling Mexico would not be near the top of your list.
- baalzebub, on 04/05/2008, -11/+34i am sticking with good ol' Jack Daniels sippin' whiskey...
if Sam Houston and James Bowie were alive today i wonder what they would think, "Remember the Alamo"... - NightVortez, on 04/05/2008, -8/+31I'm not a big fan of Absolut but offensive or not their campaigns are always real edgy.
- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -8/+30Exactly. And I bet the people getting all offended by it are the same who get up in arms about "political correctness."
Come on, it's just a damn ad set up to cause controversy, and you guys bought it hook, line, and sinker. - Jeffler, on 04/05/2008, -6/+27WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
- textrant, on 04/05/2008, -9/+27We do still own the land, you just Govern it.
- earcaraxe, on 04/05/2008, -9/+26Let 'em have Utah.
- 1o23r, on 04/05/2008, -0/+16If I remember correctly, Mexico let Americans farm their land, but then the American farmers grew tired of having to follow Mexican law (including the illegality of slavery), so America just sort of kept the land, ignoring Mexican rule.
- textrant, on 04/05/2008, -13/+29You are clearly not from Texas because you know where it is on a map :P
- albinorhino101, on 04/05/2008, -1/+16Ketel one

The In An Absolut World advertising campaign invites consumers to visualize a world that appeals to them -- one they feel may be more idealized or one that may be a bit "fantastic." As such, the campaign will elicit varying opinions and points of view. We have a variety of executions running in countries worldwide, and each is germane to that country and that population.
This particular ad, which ran in Mexico, was based upon historical perspectives and was created with a Mexican sensibility. In no way was this meant to offend or disparage, nor does it advocate an altering of borders, nor does it lend support to any anti-American sentiment, nor does it reflect immigration issues. Instead, it hearkens to a time which the population of Mexico may feel was more ideal.
As a global company, we recognize that people in different parts of the world may lend different perspectives or interpret our ads in a different way than was intended in that market. Obviously, this ad was run in Mexico, and not the US -- that ad might have been very different.
By Paula Eriksson, VP Corporate Communications, V&S Absolut Spirits - inactive, on 04/05/2008, -1/+15Mow your own ***** lawn, lazy *****.
- lostarchitect, on 04/05/2008, -13/+27I am pretty shocked that people are digging chicofarby down. he's right--it's just an ad! relax. you'd probably think it was funny if a companion ad showed the US annexing Canada.
- argaen21, on 04/05/2008, -4/+18They found jobs in factories that moved to mexico and made all the factory workers in the usa jobless. NAFTA messed up ***** on both sides guy.
- Monarch818, on 04/05/2008, -6/+20Commie Russia is not trying to incite Mexico to go to war with the USA, as Absolute Sweden is. Now is it?
- textrant, on 04/05/2008, -0/+13You think German's are stupid enough to drink that crap when they live next to Poland, which make some of the nicest spirits known to man.
- deltron, on 04/05/2008, -11/+24Wall of text FTL.
- dafpoo, on 04/05/2008, -11/+24I'm not much of a drinker, but I think it's funny. It's not like the U.S. has anything to worry about.
- Chompy, on 04/05/2008, -6/+19"What is better than free advertising?"
Paid advertising that doesn't piss cause customers to swear off your brand. - kingramstone, on 04/05/2008, -1/+14I agree and I'm from the United States (California actually). It's a well-played satire that shouldn't really piss anyone off unless they take themselves too seriously.
- saisumimen, on 04/05/2008, -3/+16Did you guys read some of the comments from these fools? "BAWWWW! No more Absolut in MY house!" and "this ad is trying to incite war with the US" were some of my favorites.
Our education system has slipped from being one of the best to one of the worst in the entire world. This thread alone is a testament to that. -
