- MaryNeal, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1WOW! IT IS QUIET IN HERE!
Approximately 1.25 million mental patients are imprisoned in America. It is very hard for defense attorneys to get "not guilty for reason of insanity" verdicts from juries. This is partly because by the time a jury sees the defendant, it is months after the mental patient's initial arrest, and the defendant has been treated for the mental dysfunction. That is what happened in Andrea Yate's case - the Texas mother who drowned her five children. See a young lady having a real bi-polar episode by typing these words into your web browser: "Enforced Treatment vs. Prison for Acute Mental Patients." Then find the poll on OpEdNews and register your opinion - Treatment or Prison for the Mentally Ill? Thanks so much for your interest in this important matter.
Blessings,
Mary
