***** her. Her father served his country couragously and deserves high admiration. But there are many, many families whose father is not returning from Iraq. Or whose mother is not returning from Iraq. Or whose son or daughter is not returning from Iraq.
Meghan McCain has a father who got to see her go off to college. Many families will not see that joy because of the Bush/McCain unnecessary war in Iraq. - thcanalichio, on 09/09/2008, -3/+115she learned this kind of arrogance from her father. these ruling class autocrats are so sure they're better than the rest of us.
and being a POW means he's entitled to be president, apparently. i don't think so. - johnnr2, on 09/09/2008, -4/+110wtf!?
- nopRT, on 09/09/2008, -3/+105Well, war supposedly made him who he is today, his campaign is based primarily on his war experiences, he loves the 2 wars we're in now, he intends to keep the wars going for 100 years, he promises "other wars" in the future... Obviously a vote for McCain is a vote for war. Meghan may have misspoke when she claimed her family were the only ones who understood war, but I do see her point that if McCain knows anything, it's war.
- sugarazor, on 09/10/2008, -2/+98Dear Republicans,
If families are truly off-limits, keep them the ***** off TV.
Sincerely yours,
sugarazor - MadKennyP, on 09/09/2008, -2/+89What she said: "No one knows what war is like other than my family. Period."
- orelses, on 09/09/2008, -0/+81She really botched that one up. Next thing she'll say is that she is currently a POW.
- neognostic, on 09/09/2008, -1/+69Then he bought her a new Prius and a $700,000 condo. While hundreds if not thousands of National Guardsmen are filing for bankruptcy because of extended tours in Iraq.
- stonecircle, on 06/11/2009, -2/+60Is arrogance hereditary?
The soldiers coming back with limbs missing don't understand what war is like? The families who have to deal with their soldier coming home in a body bag don't understand what war is like? The wife whose marriage ends in divorce because her soldier comes home a different man doesn't understand what war is like? The mother whose child was killed by our bombs doesn't understand what war is like?
It sounds like Meghan doesn't have a clue. Maybe she should enlist and then she just might understand what war is like. Then again, if McCain/Palin float to the top, maybe she'll be drafted... - cedarbaydave, on 09/09/2008, -2/+48That sums up the beliefs of the right just about perfectly.
"You should always be scared, and we are the only ones who can protect you" - TheDarkstarter, on 09/10/2008, -5/+48John McCain has no combat experience on the ground. He was a flyboy, he got shot down, and spent the war in a prison cell, not fighting on the ground in combat. His view of war is distorted. McCain is weak on defense, because he knows nothing about conducting a war on the ground. I'd trust people like John Kerry or Max Cleland's combat experience far and away above McCain. McCain is unfit to make military decisions, I don't trust him. At least Obama is more intelligent, I'd trust him to make more thoughtful, intelligent decisions.
- BishkekBuddy, on 09/09/2008, -1/+41And can't get proper medical care or have to PROVE their disabilities are a result of their combat experience.
- ImmortalAzrael, on 09/09/2008, -2/+39What an arrogant *****. If this is what her dad raised her to act like then its pretty clear that he doesn't have what it takes to lead a country. On a side note the other day I saw a childrens book by her about her dad. That kind of worried me.
- hockeyplayer66, on 09/10/2008, -2/+36She obviously has some of Cindy's genes. Not the sharpest tool in the shed.
- commitone, on 09/10/2008, -2/+35Shut up, Meg!
- enki25, on 09/10/2008, -2/+30If anybody in the Kerry family had said this they would run 24 hour specials with an "apology countdown" on Fox News.
- gubbie, on 09/10/2008, -2/+29This is the first time I've seen her speak.
Now I know why. - lulzitsadigg, on 09/10/2008, -0/+26She's a POW by transitive properties
- PhilLesh69, on 09/10/2008, -2/+28She really does know what war is like. All those people experiencing pain and loss and dismemberment just don't get it, they are wallowing in their own misery, feeling sorry for themselves.
The people who really know what war is like have big fat portfolios heavily invested in the defense industry, and they have had to suffer the pain and loss of struggling to funnel all of those profits offshore before the IRS gets their hands on it. Do you know how much you have to pay someone to launder your money, to shelter your money from taxes? You can lose up to 30% of your hard earned war profits to a shady accountant, and everyone knows, dealing with accountants makes al qaeda look like a trip to neiman marcus or tiffany's.
Doesn't anyone realize how hard it is to deal with the IRS? How much hardship rich investors go through not knowing if the war will be short and only net them a small profit, or will drag on long enough to make them so much money they will never know how to spend it all? How painful it is to watch your money get on a plane and fly off to some faraway, possibly hostile land, knowing you might not ever see it again?
We have to feel their pain. These people aren't even sure if they'll be able to buy a Gulfstream 550, or will have to settle for a Gulfstream V. Nobody else can understand the pain and suffering they must be going through, not knowing which Jet they'll be able to afford because of this war. You liberal ***** should get off their backs. You just don't know the pain they are going through! - lulzitsadigg, on 09/10/2008, -2/+28The sad thing is that her brothers probably don't do anything in Iraq.. especially now that their father might be elected president in a few months

? - mrdeathgod, on 09/10/2008, -3/+27Excuse me, you out-of-touch overprivileged bitch, I've got several thousand American families who would like a word with you.
- Iaianrocks, on 09/10/2008, -0/+24Mr Foot meet Mr. Mouth . Aw you look so cute with that in there
- CTK14A, on 09/10/2008, -1/+24Hey everyone, cool it, candidates' family members are not to be discussed! Even when they're being interviewed by Meredith Viera on The Today Show with the express purpose of campaigning for their father -- family members are off-limits!
- inactive, on 09/10/2008, -0/+22The Palin bury brigade has ventured outside of it's cave and started burying any article that shows Republicans in a negative light. Go ahead and bury the video of her speaking as inaccurate. It was probably CGI or something.
- paintgrl, on 09/09/2008, -2/+23I wonder if McCain is having her re-programmed right now? Woops.
I wonder if she gets her great verbal and thinking skills from her father? - insertcleverid, on 09/09/2008, -12/+33Maybe we should just give the twit a pass. There are lots of arrogant ignorant spoiled stupid brats running around with expense accounts, its part of what makes America great. She'll probably be hidden from the media for the rest of the campaign now. Grounding her is punishment enough.
Besides, the real villain here is her father who filled her up with this *****. - inactive, on 09/09/2008, -2/+23shutup b***h
- cadmiumpaint, on 09/10/2008, -0/+20its easy for a princess living in one of her 8 castles to say that when the no name peasants are dying on the other side of the planet to protect her freedoms. Its clear she's a complete idiot just like her daddy.
I hope armed forces families here/see this story and understand that McCain has no respect for them. - readacook, on 09/10/2008, -4/+23This is a good example of why pessimistic Democrats shouldn't give up hope. In a few weeks, the debates will start and the Republicans will have to talk about something other than their charming POW and moose-hunting stories.
Independents will then realize that Republicans are on the wrong end of almost every major issue out there right now. Plus, Republicans often say a lot of dumb *****. - SSPink, on 09/10/2008, -2/+21And Track gets brought up yet again.
Just remember media and democrats: Families are OFF LIMITS and you CANNOT discuss Sarah Palin's family... except Track, his service is a story that the media has to report... and Trig, Sarah Palin bravely standing up to the evil abortionists and deciding to keep him is an important issue. But you are not to talk about Bristol. Daughters are off limits, John McCain would never say anything negative about a political rival's daughter... unless they were a Clinton and he felt they were ugly, then it's OK if he says "Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno." I mean, the guy was a POW, he didn't get to look a woman for over 5 years, so anything he says is OK and you hate America for questioning his judgment on any issue. - inactive, on 09/10/2008, -1/+20war does not make one great - yoda
- AzureRise, on 09/10/2008, -0/+19If he knows war so well why is he so bad at it?
- matchb, on 09/10/2008, -3/+21Yeah but this article's just gonna get reported as inaccurate sooner or later by the mccain bury brigade
despite being a video interview - pintomp3, on 09/10/2008, -0/+17mccain still thinks we can win vietnam.
- enki25, on 09/10/2008, -0/+17Yeah, this young adult billionaire heiress is in the same condition as a 7 year old child to field questions. Thank you for making that comparison.
- MelvinSchlubman, on 09/10/2008, -2/+19People who've been in war understand it in a way that others (including me) won't. Typically, they come away with a resolve to truly consider it the last resort. McCain seems not to be in that camp. Perhaps he wants more wars so he can vicariously get revenge for the torture he suffered.
Why did that remind me of this?

I found myself expecting to hear Meghan McCain say "the Iraq". - SupaFupa, on 09/10/2008, -3/+20I have no military experience whatsoever. But from what I gather, wars are run by generals/presidents/joint chiefs of staff/CIA. Not to diminish their service, but no living member in the McCain family is any of these things. How is being held prisoner good foreign policy experience? Does this open up a whole new set of career opportunities for those enemy combatants lucky enough to come out of Guantanamo Bay?
- swordphish, on 09/10/2008, -1/+18If any country invaded America today, the McCain family, and many like theirs, would be the first to flee to safety instead of fighting.
- inactive, on 09/10/2008, -0/+16it's seems ironic that she reminds me of Paris Hilton
- purfideas, on 09/10/2008, -0/+16Good God. Are we going to be longing for the good old days of the Bush Twins?
- mgill3, on 09/10/2008, -1/+17I'm so sick of the whole POW card and war BS...
Seriously, so what? We don't NEED somebody 'experienced' in WAR right now, this world doesn't need any more wars.
The neocon party should quit and just hire military generals, and the like, because they would fit the bill for those type of jobs, not President of the United States. You need to know how to run a country, not how to go to war. - stilesja, on 09/10/2008, -0/+15Actually this just shows she's a ditz.... No need to really learn anything when you are filthy rich in beer money.
Truth be told, she probably means, War is all her family knows, which is pretty accurate. Thankfully I'm not a big fan of war so I'll vote for someone else. Anyone else. - lionfamlee, on 09/10/2008, -1/+16Truly amazing! I thought that most people had a little silent buzzer that went off in their head before they said something foolish.
- TopJack, on 09/10/2008, -3/+18Paris Hilton without the class and extensive political knowledge.
- Ajajadude, on 09/10/2008, -0/+15Kids generally take on the mindsets of the parents. If this is how she feels, there's little doubt her dad feels this way.
It also shows how out of touch McCain's family is from the majority of the country. Again, she's a byproduct of her environment.
We get it, McCain was captured in Vietnam. Congratulations on surviving. Thousands of American soldiers have done the same over the course of American history. Doesn't mean you'll make a good president. - Paul, on 09/10/2008, -1/+16she meant "better than" not "other than" and i think she's right... they do know torture, pain, death, and war... i want a president who doesn't.
- linagee, on 09/10/2008, -1/+15Would she be saying the same thing if her father changed the draft rules to include females?
- hockeyplayer66, on 09/10/2008, -0/+14If they don't want her to be open for criticism, keep her the hell off TV. Obama's not parading his kids around to run interference for him.
- headzoo, on 09/10/2008, -2/+15McCain spent most of his tour of duty locked up as a POW. If he understands anything, it's the pitfalls of being a prisoner, and the brutality of torture. That does not mean he understands war, since he really didn't take part in one.
