- PeaceAndJustice, on 05/15/2008, -25/+77Umm, she NEEDS to release her tax returns...
- Hillsfar, on 05/15/2008, -14/+41McCain calls for sanctions on Sudan. Wife then sells Sudan-related investments.
Let's call on his wife to stop letting him use her jet. It's a big loophole that was to be fixed except G.W. Bush won't allow a quorum on the FEC. - inactive, on 05/15/2008, -4/+23i don't see the issue here. Each mutual fund owns hundreds of companies, and you don't have time to investigate each one. many of the people on digg probably own such a mutual fund. if not them, then their parents, or their college fund. i personally don't know whether i do. Petrochina is one of the largest companies in the world, and thousands of mutual funds have it in their portfolio. same with many of these other companies. i even used to own petrochina because i at first did not realize that it had such extensive investments in sudan and was involved in the slave trade. Another news flash: some of the clothes that you own were probably made in sweatshops!
- swrostmore, on 05/15/2008, -4/+23Wow, the McCains are really "cleaning house" recently...what with this and McCain's firing of multiple campaign staffers that were moonlighting as lobbyists for the Myanmar military Junta.
- kithogan, on 05/15/2008, -13/+31For what? being a private wealthy citizen? get a life
- thirdcoastborn, on 05/15/2008, -19/+35Investigate her
- Echota, on 01/05/2009, -15/+29So what else are they covering up? I still say she needs to release her tax returns. No telling what the result's of those would tell us!
- inactive, on 05/15/2008, -1/+13sudan has oil. they have exclusive deals with chinese companies such as PetroChina and CNOOC. china can get oil from them cheaper because there is no demand from countries like the US.
- inactive, on 05/15/2008, -3/+13I'm no accountant, but I do believe that the "her money is his money too" idea is merely something that varies from state to state, and is not part of US law. Hence the ability to file income taxes jointly or separately when you're married. As far as the McCain's go, they've filed separately their entire married lives.
- dhendrix1, on 05/15/2008, -10/+19I really hate to be mean...but Cindy McCain reminds me of a Stepford Wife. Now to the subject at hand...can you imagine the screaming from the press if this had been Michelle Obama? Good God!
- kithogan, on 05/15/2008, -22/+33Why? She's not running for office.
- kithogan, on 05/15/2008, -21/+30Married for 28 years, their financial issues have always been separate....pre nup agreement, the whole nine yards...she is an heiress and like, teresa heinz kerry can do whatever she wants to do with HER money. Leave her alone, she's not the candidate. Want to look for dirt? Check out Bubba Clinton's financial wheeling and dealings.
- inactive, on 05/15/2008, -15/+23Because her money is his money too, that's marriage under US law.
Plus we all suspected they were hiding stuff, but I didn't think it would be investments in the Sudan!
I don't know why I'd be surprised, the GOP makes their money off human suffering.
It's why they are so heavily in with the war industry. - inactive, on 05/15/2008, -2/+9Difference being that Bill and Hillary file jointly, as to Barack and Michelle. That's why you got a chance to peek at the spousal income in those situations. So yes, you can investigate "them all", except Cindy McCain because her money isn't tied to John McCain's.
That's the reality of it. Not to mention that the outcry over Kerry's wife not releasing her tax records was a merely blimp on the mudslinging radar, and rightfully so. - robdazomba, on 05/15/2008, -2/+8I hope she keeps it secret. The longer she refuses to reveal her taxes, the more suspicious it looks and the less reason people will have to trust either of them.
So big thanks to Cindy McCain. We Democrats appreciate and honor your continued secrecy. More power to you! - JohnGalt72, on 05/15/2008, -3/+9I, for one, would like to hear some McCain "Straight-talk" on this one...
- sonofblacula, on 05/15/2008, -0/+6I think she's a fine young woman. In fact, good sir, I would go so far as to say I'd "hit it" as the youths express it.
- oldhick, on 05/15/2008, -3/+8Please explain how the fighting in Sudan generates BIG MONEY.
- afx114, on 05/15/2008, -1/+6Why? For the same reason that the GOP demanded that Theresa Heinz Kerry release her tax records during the 2004 election (she eventually did).
- inactive, on 05/15/2008, -4/+9Yes, because no democrats have ever been accused and/or convicted of financial improprieties.
You ***** partisan hack. - Gemfinder, on 05/15/2008, -5/+10Sanctions on Sudan are only a symbolic gesture, until we put pressure on China to stop funding them as well.
And we can't do that because we've sold our soul to them. - Vermifax, on 05/15/2008, -1/+6Well, neither was Teresa Heinz Kerry.
I guess Repub spouses play by different rules. - pixarman, on 05/15/2008, -4/+8If he is using her assets, i.e. her private jet, for campaigning purposes then yes she should release her tax documents. What else has he been using?
Also, is she war profiteering by selling her Sudan stock? They are an "Axis of Evil" according to G.W..... How can she blatantly do that?
I can't believe McCain actually had the balls to call Obama an elitist...He who has 9 houses, a private jet, and an heiress for a wife...okay. - boonesfarm, on 05/15/2008, -2/+6MUTUAL FUND. If you contribute to a mutual fund or are a member of a union with a retirement program, then you are vested in morally-compromised countries. You wear clothes made in sweatshops in China. You watch 30 Rock, aired by NBC, which is owned by GE, which sells electronics to Iran. Or, maybe you shouldn't invest in American countries at all, since many of you think we're so awful. Judging by some posts here, many of you can't vote anyway.... and invest in things like Mountain Dew & Guitar Hero, but somehow have an understanding of Middle Eastern politics that makes McCain and Bush look like idiots by comparison.
So yeah, hang Cindy McCain on this.... and thereby conclude that her spouse should not be President.
- Vermifax, on 05/15/2008, -1/+5You really, really forgot the "sarc" tag...
I really don't want be looking at that extra-terrestial Sugar Mama for the next four years.
John's integrity is a myth plus, being a Bush clone is a serious mark on his level of patriotism. - allengeer, on 05/15/2008, -2/+6Cindy McCain needs to lay of the bo-tox.
- sonofblacula, on 05/15/2008, -1/+5So what you're saying is that you've never taken a microeconomics or civics class, have no understanding of the law, and basically hop on whatever witch-burning bandwagon rolls by so long as the target is a republican?
Clearly someone's been brainwashed. - Codee, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4if you don't have anything to hide what's the problem? What are they hiding? They are both running however you slice it. She likes to chime in and open her mouth on the podium, she's a "Proud American"... blah blah. Well Ok, Miss America, let's have it then. Maybe your other investments will question your husband's need stay in Iraq for 100 years? Haliburton ring a bell?
- inactive, on 05/15/2008, -4/+7sudan doesn't profit off of war. they profit off of oil.
- inactive, on 05/15/2008, -11/+14I agree with John McCain on one issue--Cindy is a *****.
- fizzak, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3Hmm wonder if she has holdings in Airbus....
- comedianX, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3You can invest in a country a couple of ways: buy their debt or buy their currency.
- gyronic, on 05/15/2008, -2/+5I'm sure business in Darfur is gooooooooooood!
- sonofblacula, on 05/15/2008, -1/+4He doesn't have tax returns heliox, he's in highschool.
- sonofblacula, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3I want to begin this comment by saying that I am an Obama supporter, and have voted democratic and independent my entire life.
Anyone who is demanding she release her tax records, or implying that she legally must, is ignorant in regards to the law. She is a private citizen who happens to be married to a politician, and is in no way obligated to release her financial records any more than you are. She can flip you all of if she wants to.
That being said, I agree that its shady and that if McCain did not feel that his election would be hurt by the contents of those records, he would press her to release them. - inactive, on 05/15/2008, -3/+6Anyone else find it odd that you never see a single negative story about Barack Obama or a positive story about Hillary Clinton or John McCain. I really don't think the entire Digg community is solidified behind Obama anymore than it was behind Ron Paul when he was getting ALL the front page play. C'mon folks, don't let yourselves be run by a few powerful diggers. Digg up some diversity on this site!
- sonofblacula, on 05/15/2008, -1/+3It sure would be nice of her to do so, and we may indeed find some skeletons in the closet if she did. It's a shame she is in no way obligated to do so and most likely will continue to ignore anyone who asks. I guess we will just have to look at the candidates voting records and policy platforms in order to decide who to vote for eh? Man, that sucks!
- afx114, on 05/15/2008, -3/+5Theresa Heinz Kerry released her tax records during the 2004 election.
- robdazomba, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2They're both so filthy. Between his involvement in the Keating Five and her shady behavior with her finances, I have to wonder if this was really the best the Republicans could come up with?
- neems25, on 05/15/2008, -10/+12What a trifling ass bitch....release those tax statements!
- Macrophage, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2This should all have been done prior to his Nomination, the fact that it still has not..concerns me.
Whats the big deal? It will come out, theres no escaping it Ms McCain.
PEACE
John - sonofblacula, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2They did, in 2004. You can cancel your digg user account now.
- inactive, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Dear American
Politicians in ANY OTHER western country cannot own shares, cannot run a directorship, cannot have any financial interests in another company, cannot have an immediate family member (Wife) hold shares.
The cause of corruption in America stares out the window like a beacon yet most Americans dismiss this as common practice. It isn't! - inactive, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2Talk about a real association , his wife.
- breadfred, on 05/15/2008, -2/+4I dugg you down in error. My apologies. Luckily we now have a great system to correct our faults. I corrected mine. I just hope, beyond all hope, that McCain would do the same.
- quomen, on 05/15/2008, -1/+3Did John McCain demand it? You don't always have to side with your own party you know.. I'm a Republican but a very wary one right now.
- breadfred, on 05/15/2008, -1/+3War means selling weapons - one of the biggest industries in the world. Sad but true. I have no idea if this person has any investments in the army industry, but it just shows that fighting does not have to have a negative influence on your personal finances.
- dafragsta, on 05/15/2008, -3/+5I highly doubt that in itself is what people are pissed about. She also says she will NEVER release her tax returns.
- sonofblacula, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2Wow, I can't believe Polish is being dugg down for use of simple logic. Oh wait that's right, you ***** freaks think that September 11 was planned in the year 1400 by the Illuminati so initiate New World Order and the rise of the reptilians. Jesus Christ people, did you ever think that maybe she just digs politicians and/or soldiers? Everything has to be a ***** conspiracy with you.
- sonofblacula, on 05/15/2008, -1/+3Do you masturbate thinking about those two having sex?
