- JimmyTheHeel, on 09/05/2008, -16/+469McCain thoroughly vetted that backdrop, and it's sexist for you to suggest otherwise.

{POW;} - JenniferInMO, on 09/05/2008, -24/+146That doesn't look like a Middle School, and why in the world would anyone want to use Walter Reed Hospital as a backdrop? It exemplifies EVERYTHING that is wrong with VA healthcare and the horrible way we treat our veterans?
- Nekura20x6, on 09/05/2008, -19/+124Most Republicans have never been there nor known anyone who even served in the military, so it's not surprising they had no idea what it looked like. I'm a Desert Storm vet and I'm sick of everybody thinking Republicans are the pro-military party when all they do is slash benefits, close VA hospitals, and steal money away from equipment and training that should have gone to our troops.
- jtucker65, on 09/05/2008, -26/+121Well, apparently John McSame isn't the only one in his campaign that doesn't know how to use the Internet
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -15/+91I "why the ***** are they showing off one of his 7 houses"
- gsadamb, on 09/05/2008, -13/+86You know, I want to laugh -- but at the same time, these guys are uncomfortably close to attaining the most powerful position in the land. Scary.
- VicHislop, on 09/05/2008, -7/+67Well, the use of Walter Reed Army Medical Center really fit within McCain's overall theme for the night. I mean, I know the speech was long, but he managed to fit in his POW experience a few times, 9/11, and even Pearl Harbor! Why wouldn't they want to throw in injured soldiers as well? That said, it's actually quite impressive that he didn't choke on all of that thick, syrupy exploitation.
- CdnPhoto, on 09/05/2008, -9/+65At first, I thought they were providing another green screen for all the creative folks to mash up something interesting with.

- Midwesterntruth, on 09/05/2008, -16/+45McCain has been to WR hospital, but maybe he didn't see the background during his practice sessions. Or maybe he just thought it was one of the houses he couldn't remember. Either way kind of highlights every way McCain's administration would be out of touch.
- psy333che, on 09/05/2008, -19/+47They are so devious and will stoop at nothing to appeal to many who do not read and research what and who they say they are

- rjn17960, on 09/05/2008, -7/+33You would think he knows what the Walter Reed Medical Center looks like. From a March, 2007, New York Times article:
Senator John McCain, the ranking Republican on the Armed Services Committee personally apologized today for what he called “unacceptable” conditions at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, currently the subject of hearings on the Hill.
“I will take responsibility for being a member of the Armed Services Committee and not knowing about it and not doing anything about it,” the Republican 2008 contender told a group of county officials from across the country today. “I apologize for my failure” to act, the Arizona Republican added. “I should be held accountable.” - apothekari, on 09/05/2008, -5/+30@winnestow
Uhhhhhhh...dude you're not helping your candidate look any less like an out of touch jackass.
OH NOES Obama has a relative in Kenya!
FEAR the big bad blackman of change!!!
RUN!!! - SatoriSeeker, on 09/05/2008, -5/+28We need more veterans speaking out about stuff like this to get the message through. Republicans will sink to any depth to hook people including exploiting the admiration normal American's have for those risking everything for us in the military. It's like they believe they can tie themselves so closely to the soldiers risking their lives that they to become heroes. ***** that. They pulled this same ***** with christians, despite the blatant hypocrisy of any christian supporting a war. Republicans are not heros and they are not moral. The only morally sound republican hero I know is Ron Paul.
- mtrip, on 09/05/2008, -9/+32This is sexist. How dare you sexist sexists make these sexist remarks.

- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -4/+25LOL! Why even bother commenting? This is indefensible and a moronic mistake right in the very heart of prime time and McCain's speach. For you to try to deflect this and to try to take a swing at Obama makes you look like a complete fool.
Your Presidential nominee makes you look like a fool. What you should do is to make sure he doesn't make us all look like fools by voting against him (or abstaining) in November instead of trying to trash Obama now.
There's only so much lipstick's going to do for this pig. - TimTheSloth, on 09/05/2008, -4/+23No offense but I'm going to start burying anyone who makes a lame pun on names because its incredibly cheesy. No way in hell I would vote for McCain but you sound like a 4th grader.
- revjustin2, on 09/05/2008, -3/+18um....thanks for sharing?
- PleaseJustDie, on 09/05/2008, -4/+19Walter Reed is actually a really good medical center, one of the best in the Army. Most people say its a toss up between Walter Reed and MAMC (Madigan Army Medical Center) on Fort Lewis, but many still believe that Walter Reed is a better hospital. And having had experience with MAMC (being stationed on Fort Lewis) I can guarantee, after undergoing 3 surgeries and attending many physical therapy appointments, there is nothing wrong with the medical treatment received from the major medical centers in the Army.
And who knows, maybe they hired a company to do all the tech work and their tech guy is a digg/obama/4chan fanatic so thought it would be funny to intentionally ***** up the image displayed. - Atomic05, on 09/05/2008, -2/+17@Quad
You are either a troll of the lowest caliber or your sarcasm has failed miserably. There's even an outside chance that you really are a bigoted moron. In any case, please do everyone a favor and ***** off. - EtherGnat, on 09/05/2008, -3/+18Oh my god, Obama canceled one of his three visits to see injured troops that week because there were complications (newsflash: McCain has canceled visits to wounded troops before too). Even Republicans have said they think it was the right thing for Obama to do, because that portion of his trip was paid for by his campaign (as opposed to the earlier part of his trip which was part of a Senate trip) and it could have been viewed as a campaign stunt.

He was just accepting the nomination, where did you even come up with that? - 13373h4X0r, on 09/05/2008, -0/+12They didn't "break in"!
No, those people were Republicans who were MAD at what their party had become. - slorocks, on 09/05/2008, -0/+11Junior High
- kg37, on 09/05/2008, -10/+21I guess the war protestors did more than just break into the convention physically. Maybe they infiltrated McCain's tech staff too?
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -10/+21Why would they even bring up the Walter Reed Scandal. Even if this came off smoothly, it would just remind voters of the abandonment of veterans by the neocons.
McCain's vp selection process: http://tinyurl.com/5zr47h - Tecton1c, on 09/05/2008, -16/+27Note: For anyone that actually watched it, McCain did state in his speech that education is "the social issue of the 21st century." Maybe that had something to do with it?
- kickcows, on 09/05/2008, -14/+25I'm from around that area and am familiar with that school. I thought it was some kind of joke. What a bunch of dumbasses.
- slorocks, on 09/05/2008, -3/+14I went to Reed in North Hollywood and that is the front of the school. That was the only building when my Uncle went there.

- sircomix, on 09/05/2008, -6/+16We care because it's HILARIOUS!
- bicyclethief, on 09/05/2008, -2/+12It's clear the Republicans were just being efficient in wanting to show they care about both veteran health care and education.
- sircomix, on 09/05/2008, -1/+11Um, we already KNOW who he is. He's been vetted repeatedly. He's not a minor cast member from Northern Exposure. Now SHE'S getting vetted, and we start to realize what a corrupt, rednecky and frankly, stupid person she really is.
GOBAMA baby! - snotrokit, on 09/05/2008, -2/+12what is your explanation for a backdrop that has absolutely nothing to do with the message of the party?
- twiztidsinz, on 09/05/2008, -1/+11“I apologize for my failure”
Must. Have. Soundbyte!! - unradical, on 09/05/2008, -0/+10McCain taking credit for the new GI Bill which he opposed and refused to vote on is one of the reasons why idiots inside the GOP continue to believe they "support the troops."
- PleaseJustDie, on 09/05/2008, -4/+13I think his point is that by showing his brother's impoverished living conditions in Kenya it would look bad on Obama, since its his brother. Even if they didn't know each other until a couple years ago and really have nothing in common except one parental gene donated from a person Obama doesn't really know either.

"I hate uppity *****." - snotrokit, on 09/05/2008, -1/+10If you are performing a speech in front of millions, every bit of every image should have been carefully selected to represent and enforce the message of the speaker. Every element of everything should have been carefully considered. Hell, look how much time Hillary's people spent picking out the right pantsuit. If it wasn't a Walter Reed goof, then what the hell was it?
edit: if it was supposed to be a school, it was a piss poor choice as it left more people guessing what the hell it was. - Pstall, on 09/05/2008, -2/+11What the hell does your comment even mean? "They are so devious and will stoop at nothing to appeal to many" what does having a picture of a middle school as a backdrop on a large projection screen have to do with being "devious"?
