- poprocksandsoda, on 07/15/2008, -20/+95Wow ... nothing like the Huffington Post and Perez Hilton being combined to produce an even more reputable source of unbiased reporting.
- Rotzooi, on 07/14/2008, -16/+82McCain is Old America.
(NB Perez is a douche but that is not important in this issue) - SaladCactusKing, on 07/15/2008, -8/+64Diggers are delusional as ***** if they think Perez Hilton of all ***** people is a threat to the McCain campaign.
- Khanvalescent, on 07/15/2008, -13/+65***** Perez Hilton.
- BaseballGuyCAA, on 07/15/2008, -10/+47When I was a kid, my dad walked out on our family. I was raised by a single mother--and later on, a mother and a stepfather.
Guess what? I turned out okay. In fact, I turned out a lot better than most children born to Fundamentalist parents (what with all the closed-mindedness, sexual repression, and lack of trust in facts: all of which are far worse for a child's development than not having Daddy at their ball game).
It's just not true, John. Kids can be raised in a shocking amount of environments successfully. I'm living proof. - RealmDown, on 07/15/2008, -3/+34NB Perez is a douche and not important to ANY issue.
I fixed that right up for you. :) - Taiyoryu, on 07/15/2008, -1/+27In a perfect world, abortion will be available but rarely used because people will have learned to take personal responsibility for their sexual freedom, every child will be a part of a loving functional family regardless of its gender makeup and quantity of immediate family members, a family would spend quality time with each other which isn't fixed to some arbitrary schedule, etc. ...
- mmijatov, on 07/15/2008, -13/+37In a perfect world, no fetus would be aborted, every child would have a mommy and daddy, the whole family would sit down for dinner every night, etc . . . I don't think there is anything wrong with that "ideal" concept of the American family. Accepting of gay adoption and gay marriage is simply accepting what will become an inevitable truth in this society. The family as our collective consciousness understands it has been and is evolving beyond the traditional nuclear family.
- StarlessKnight, on 07/15/2008, -4/+24Nor does a person having both a mother and father suggest they are better off.
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -8/+27Perez Hilton? Really?
My ***** god. Can we expect What Would Tyler Durden Do to weigh in on the debate as well? Maybe TMZ too? - jezsik, on 07/15/2008, -3/+22I see. Senator McCain, if both parents are important in the success of a family (hence you don't believe in gay adoption), it stands to reason that you would be against divorce and single parent families.
- paperhurts, on 07/15/2008, -18/+36McCain is an out of touch old fart, who, if elected, will be writing in laws in clay tablets since he doesn't do email.
- cheekdog, on 07/15/2008, -10/+26having both parents is better, eh? so why can't a gay COUPLE adopt? that's TWO parents....maybe mccain can't count, either. plus.....most gay people are born and raised in non-gay households, so what should that tell the old fart, huh?
- norman619, on 07/15/2008, -2/+17To be honest the nuclear family is a brand new social idea. Nothing really traditional about it when you look at how families were organized in the past.
- superkendall, on 07/15/2008, -8/+21But he also believes it's up to the states to choose on matters like this and gay marriage. As an independent that's what I want in a president, is someone able to separate what HE wants from what the REST of us want.
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -28/+40I have a question for McSame,
Senator, do you believe Dick and Lynn Cheney were failures as parents since their daughter is a gay woman, which is also known as a lesbian, and has adopted a kid with her gay lover?
Thank you in advance for your answer, bigot. - GrodyChamp, on 07/15/2008, -10/+22No one gives a rats ass what perez ***** hilton thinks.
Wow huffpo is really reaching for ***** now. - inactive, on 07/15/2008, -2/+14To a gay couple, a "perfect family" might be them and their kids, with the government staying the ***** out of their lives.
- GeneralFault, on 07/15/2008, -1/+12No raybury, the real Conservative point is that government should not be large enough to be involved in such matters. Goldwater (also known as the "father of Conservatism") was very clear on the idea that government should not tell the people what to do, the people should tell the government what to do... so long as those two ideas did not conflict.
- dianebl, on 07/15/2008, -3/+13The "traditional" nuclear family is about 50 years old.
- dreicher, on 07/15/2008, -10/+201) McCain has never said that gay children equates with failed parents.
2) Mary Cheney gave birth to her son - they did not adopt him.
3) The fact that somebody disagrees with you does not make them a bigot. The intolerance you show for their beliefs, however, puts you a lot closer to that definition.
I'm not a McCain supporter, but let's not go around just making ***** up. - Barackalypse, on 07/15/2008, -4/+13First, gay adoption isn't a federal issue, its a State issue, and since McCain isn't running for a State position his position is irrelevent. Second, the bigger issue is why we continue to focus on fringe issues like this that affects perhaps hundreds of thousands of people at best while the entire country is at risk from our collapsing financial system, lost civil liberties at home, rampant government spending, and war in two foreign countries. I'll take a guy who can solve those 4 problems regardless of what his stance is on any social issue.
- Ilyanep, on 07/15/2008, -21/+30Can we just get rid of Huffington Post trash on Digg please?
- Technohamster, on 07/15/2008, -4/+13McCain divorced his first wife to marry someone 20 years younger who was addicted to painkillers which she stole from her own charity while raising their 1 year old. Look it up.
- Calcularius, on 07/15/2008, -3/+11Only a NEOCON douchebag would confuse the definition of those two words.
- thomasoa, on 07/15/2008, -3/+11That's really paranoid. We don't need more vicious smears like this in politics.
We can defeat McCain without it, and, by winning with a positive campaign, perhaps succeed in getting something done.
I wonder if McCain's statement means he doesn't support single people adoption. - MattB123, on 07/15/2008, -0/+8He might like you to.
- PopcornDave, on 07/15/2008, -0/+7Wouldn't that be one hell of a gamble on the part of the Vietnamese that he would actually live this long and be re-elected time and time again, and finally be the "presumptive" nominee?
I'm getting so sick and tired of hearing this presumtive nominee *****. I'm beginning to think we're having a presumptive election. - louiedog, on 07/15/2008, -9/+16Pandering? Heteros have the right to marry, homosexuals do not. That discrepancy needs to be fixed.
- GeneralFault, on 07/15/2008, -2/+9Quite right norman. There is no reason that Government should pander to homophobic heterosexuals at the expense of the rights of any American. Just because they decide only to bed with members of the opposite sex, does not mean that government should give them special treatment. I couldn't agree more.
- Chahrlie5, on 07/15/2008, -11/+18Your point here?
Many Americans don't support gay adoption either, the sentiment of people on Digg does not represent the rest of the country, nor should you lull yourselves into thinking it does.
Heaven forbid McCain actually has a stance on the issue. - inactive, on 07/15/2008, -2/+9Why? Because you disagree with it? If you don't like it, just don't vote for him, but at least the man stated his opinion.
- StarlessKnight, on 07/15/2008, -2/+9Check the statistics of divorce in America and then come back and tell us which issue (homosexuals or the total dissolution of a unified family) is more of a "threat" to the nuclear family model.
- Diggnabbit, on 07/15/2008, -1/+8Well, I can contradict what you've heard. Most men who ar gay have not been sexually abused in their pasts. The rates are not any higher than for straight people.
(Plus, of course, despite the popular mythology to the contrary, most child sexual abuse is heterosexual pedophile males abusing girls, not homosexual pedophiles abusing boys.) - superkendall, on 07/15/2008, -2/+9Actually yes, he would be against those as being bad ideas. Doesn't mean it does not happen, just that it's not as good for the kid as otherwise.
- urgeigh, on 07/15/2008, -1/+7I've got news for you. Presidents don't write laws, but Senators do, which is what McCain has already been doing for the last 22 years or so.. I don't like the man at all but I don't like people who don't have a clue as to what they are talking about either.
- norman619, on 07/15/2008, -2/+8You mean Obama is Asian?
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -11/+17Yes, he's old and, yes, he seems deluded a large portion of the time.
But what would lead you to accuse him of being a Manchurian Candidate. I can't stand it when us Obama-backers say that of McCain or when people on the right say that about Obama. I'm of the opinion that they are both trying to serve the country and have two wildly opposing viewpoints on how to better her. Just because you (obviously) disagree with the man doesn't mean that, 30 years ago in a Vietnamese prison, he was programmed to destroy our country. - Hetman, on 07/15/2008, -2/+8He is pandering to his supporters. The people who are voting for McCain are the people who believe that Gay is wrong. So obviously the idea of marrying or adopting frightens them even more. If anything this will help McCain pick up some conservative voters.
- cesig, on 07/15/2008, -0/+6So would two parents of any sex. In a hetero couple the father could be abusive or the mother could be a drunk. The sex of the guardians isn't an indication of anything.
- stevetrojanman, on 07/15/2008, -0/+6Now?
- DutchGuilder, on 07/15/2008, -2/+8> McCain is Old America.
Yes, but old America is the voters:
18 to 34: 17%
35 to 54: 43%
55 and older: 40% - superkendall, on 07/15/2008, -1/+6Who would bother suing them? It's not a crime ot be inaccurate you know, only to slander - and that has a pretty high bar to meet before you can sue.
There are been plenty of blogs pointing out HuffPo inaccuracies. - sodade, on 07/15/2008, -4/+9And this, my friends, is why we're *****.
- Memnochxx, on 07/15/2008, -2/+7And how is society going to learn to accept these things? By not letting it happen at all? Maybe we shouldn't let black and white people get married and have children either. The children might be made fun of at school. If the best reasoning you can come up with for not wanting gay couples to have children is that other people are bigots, then you don't really have a reason at all.
- spookyttws, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5Why can't it be more like the good old days, you know back when everyone came together at dinner, played pick up baseball games, you know back when people had values. Back when certain couples had to hide in the world, certain people weren't allowed to go to the same schools, back when the ladies knew their place was in the kitchen, and certain people were hit with fire hoses and had dogs sicked on them. You know the good old days, back before all these civil rights laws and lack of intolerance against people that may have different views, or are attracted to different people.
- brycelb, on 07/15/2008, -2/+7Because being PRO DIVORCE is a good thing??????????
- superkendall, on 07/15/2008, -2/+7Actually there are a lot of crazy laws like that already in various states and municipalities - so yes, that would be OK. Don't bugger the little buggers in Kansas is what I'd say.
Are you seriously proposing that ALL laws should be federal laws only? Think of the direction YOU'RE going first before you reject the notion of state specific laws, around which our whole country is built! - Godlike, on 07/15/2008, -1/+6I really would be happy if people could just learn to use birth control. All of our other problems aside, STOP SPAWNING IF YOU LIVE IN A TRAILER OR CAR.
- VeritasAequitas, on 07/15/2008, -5/+10Good for you.
