- Shiftgood, on 04/08/2008, -17/+1064Guys, I just wanna go surfing, have a dog, a girl, eat mac n cheese and play portal once in a while. Can you people in government stop being all ***** nuts so I can do these things without fear of being blown to bits and bits?
thanks,
Shiftgood - inactive, on 04/08/2008, -9/+354Dear Religious Right,
STOP TRYING TO BRING ON THE APOCALYPSE!!! - ZenMasterMojo, on 04/08/2008, -25/+300Rev. Hagee, whose endorsement McCain says he was "very honored" to receive, has also called the Catholic Church "the Great Whore" and the "anti-Christ". Also, says New Orleans' destruction was punishment from God for gay rights. (See: http://blog.faithinpubliclife.org/2008/02/agent_of ... )
Someone please explain to me how a pro-global genocide religious nutcase like Hagee is any less extreme or less dangerous than Iran's Ahmadinejad calling for the destruction of Israel. Iran doesn't have nukes nor the military might to destroy Israel, let alone the world.
But, Hagee has the ear of someone who may soon have his finger on the nuclear button! - ZenMasterMojo, on 04/08/2008, -35/+278
Some also please explain to me why Sen. Obama has spent weeks defending his former pastor's words, BUT... Sen. McCain gets a totally free ride!
No one ever questions him about HIS ASSOCIATION with religious extremists! Nor, did the press demand that GOP members close to Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson denounce them when they said that 9/11 was punishment from God for abortion & homosexuality. Why is that?
Falwell & Robertson's groups are STILL big fundraisers for the GOP & will no doubt be invited to the GOP convention too! The press has an extreme double-standard here. They NEVER force Republican politicians to denounce the words of all of the nutty apocalypic evangelicals that they ally themselves with to get elected! Never.
BOTTOM LINE: Which is worse? Sen Obama receiving advice on race relations from Rev. Wright or Sen. McCain getting foreign policy advice from Rev. Hagee???
At least Rev. Wright never advocated attacking anyone! He only denounced US gov't policies that he deemed to be immoral. He never advocated killing anyone - like Hagee did! - inactive, on 04/08/2008, -7/+166If they wanna go see jebus so bad, do it the old fashioned way with kool-aid. Do they have to take the rest of us with them?
- Hickeroar, on 04/08/2008, -3/+116Heck, didn't Jesus himself say "Those who live by the sword, die by the sword?" Why is it that all these so-called pastors are such violence-mongers.
- tellahoohooo, on 04/08/2008, -17/+125But Obamas' pastor is telling the truth...
Hagee is a supposed christian that supports war, a war which apparently will bring about the end of time in his words.
He's openly inviting the end of days...I think one is a step further than the other - minoss, on 04/08/2008, -23/+117This isn't McCain's pastor. This is a supporter of McCain's who is a crazy racist pastor. There's a difference.
- VIrus9, on 04/08/2008, -6/+92Whenever I think of John Hagee, I remember when the Harry Potter movies were coming out and he claimed to have actually witnessed a person turning into an animal as a sign a demonic possession. That either means the guy is ***** crazy or a liar, although it is possible that he is both.
I just don't understand how this ***** maintains a shred a credibility. - ZenMasterMojo, on 04/08/2008, -8/+93Sure anytime. Bring it on. America's unconditional support for Israel & South Africa all during their worst years of violent oppression against Palestinioans and Black South Africans is a matter of public record. That part of his sermon at least is indisputable. As for the rest... several prominent former CIA officials have called the rise of Al Qaeda and it's increase in power and capability to commit terrorist acts around the world, "BLOWBACK" for US foreign policy mistakes such as unconditional support of Israel (while they were committing attrocities against Palestinians), and arming the Mujahedin & Bin Laden in the 80s & then abandoning Afghanistan after the Soviets left, and quartering US troops in Saudi Arabia near the Mecca & Medina, the Muslim world's holiest cities.
How is THAT ANALYSIS any different - other than not including South Africa or implying divine punishment or something? Why is it OK for former CIA officials to say after 9/11 was "blowback" for US support for attrocities abroad, but NOT OK for a preacher to say that America's foreign policy has been immoral???
I'm not saying that he might not have used his words a little more judiciously, or that he might not be a bit extreme in his views, but... FIRST, you are taking his words out of context of the full sermon and SECOND, how can you compare ADVOCATING GLOBAL ARMAGEDDON to criticisizing US support for immoral actions of its allies??? Get real!
Finally, Sen. Obama has spent weeks defending his former pastor's words. But, Sen. McCain has gotten a totally free ride! No one has questioned him about HIS ASSOCIATION with religious extremists! Nor, did the press demand that GOP members close to Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson denounce them when they said that 9/11 was punishment from God for abortion & homosexuality. Their groups are STILL big fundraisers for the GOP & will no doubt be invited to the GOP convention too!
Hagee??? (Notice that at least Rev. Wright never advocated attacking anyone, he only denounced policies that he deemed immoral. He never advocated killing anyone!) - cobbwobbles, on 04/08/2008, -6/+82All those insane holy rollers are just waiting for a nuclear holocaust to rescue them from their ***** lives. Newsflash! PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SAYING THE WORLD IS ABOUT TO END FOR THE ENTIRETY OF HUMAN HISTORY. Just ***** start making your life worth living so you don't have to wait in vein for the Messiah to smite your enemies and take you to heaven. SUCH an irresponsible worldview.
- DaveDaveson, on 04/08/2008, -1/+66wow, full marks for effort.
- JigoroKano, on 04/08/2008, -1/+65Attacking innocent people isn't nearly as bad as attacking America's bloated ego.
- artificialgrey, on 04/08/2008, -1/+52The dog is more loyal
- inactive, on 04/08/2008, -15/+64You know what's funny about atheists? They don't wanna kill anybody. That's just kooky.
- DryMaltExtract, on 04/08/2008, -5/+51But.. but! He's white! And Christian! AND AMERICAN!
He can't possibly be dangerous. - inactive, on 04/08/2008, -2/+48I'm sorry, but calling for death to the infidels ranks a little higher on my list of concerns than bitching about whitey.
- apraxia, on 04/08/2008, -25/+69Christians need to get a grip.
- vinnyvenus, on 04/08/2008, -11/+53This article is inaccurate.John Hagee is not Maccain's pastor.
- ragnar0kk, on 04/08/2008, -0/+41no kidding, if Jesus were here we'd nail him to the cross again for questioning our patriotism
- inactive, on 04/08/2008, -4/+42What's so crazy about that sentence? Is the truth crazy to you?
- pintomp3, on 04/08/2008, -2/+39"We've committed more war crimes almost than any nation in the world." Or, similarly, calling the United States "the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today." Sounds like Rev. Wright? Sorry, the Rev. MLK, Jr. made those remarks in 1967-68 speaking out against US Foreign Policy
- neognostic, on 04/08/2008, -4/+38Just his "current" adviser and supporter who McCain went out of his way to get Hagee's endorsement.
- Coven, on 04/08/2008, -5/+37One word cashman, CONTEXT.
One more word: TROLL - DeviateSeptum, on 04/08/2008, -8/+40My mother has fallen under John Hagee's spell. I can't even talk about politics or world events with her because everything is some prophesy coming true. It's really sad but there's no convincing her otherwise.
- evilcaptain, on 04/08/2008, -0/+31Doug Stanhope says something like
"Free country? How do you vote if you don't want a leader? If you don't want to be led!" - sb66, on 04/08/2008, -1/+30uhh Obama's pastor sounds pretty close to the truth. Hell he doesn't even talk about america's support of brutal dictatorships in latin america.
- laserblazer, on 04/08/2008, -2/+30Working to 'fulfill' a prophecy makes the prophecy into blasphemy.
- oldhick, on 04/08/2008, -16/+43Where does the "friend" and "spiritual adviser" part come from? I've done some research and can find nothing about their relationship other than the fact that Hagee endorsed McCain and McCain said he was glad to have the endorsement.
Why are they now considered friends and when did Hagee become his spiritual adviser? - MadKennyP, on 04/08/2008, -7/+34Not McCain's pastor, but McCain is even more aligned with Hagee because he so actively pursued his endorsement. McCain and his staff actively sought out Hagee’s endorsement, he appeared and campaigned with Hagee, he said he was proud to be backed by Hagee. McCain, who had been courting the endorsement for over a year, said that he was “very honored by Pastor John Hagee’s endorsement.”
- pintomp3, on 04/08/2008, -3/+29that applies to jews and muslims too.
- WasabiBomb, on 04/08/2008, -2/+28Sure, it's ridiculous. What's even more ridiculous is you claiming that Obama's pastor saying that sort of thing is reason enough for Obama to be unelectable.
I'm sorry, one religious figure claiming that we should attack Iran to fulfill a religious prophecy is LIGHTYEARS worse than proposing that AIDS was created to kill off blacks- especially since there's adequate proof that the government has, in fact, experimented upon blacks with syphilis, and used cocaine to subvert black organizations.
Religion trumps conspiracy for craziness, every time. - Kamakazi15, on 04/08/2008, -14/+39Please shut the ***** up about the pastors. Nobody cares what they say.
- monkbit, on 04/08/2008, -9/+34Wouldn't it be great if we didn't have to worry about what McCain or Obama's pastors said because the candidates were atheist?
- cerejota, on 04/08/2008, -2/+26Its the truth - reaping the whirlwind and all that. Deal with it, wuss.
And the funny thing if the attack to Iran happens and all of the sudden there are a bunch of suicide bombers in the USA, people will still deny the connection. - kraagenskul, on 04/08/2008, -12/+36Buried for inaccurate title; this guy might be endorsing McCain, but he is not his pastor.
- dfsjdkflasjk, on 04/08/2008, -4/+28+1 for Portal
- pintomp3, on 04/08/2008, -8/+32you're right. mccain's spiritual advisor, rod parsley, called upon Christians to wage a "war" against the "false religion" of Islam with the aim of destroying it.
- Jexie, on 04/08/2008, -4/+27Everybody simply expects Republican pastors to be ***** crazy. Honestly when was the last time you've ever seen a public conservative figure live their life anything close to what they preach to everyone else? They've been hypocrites for so long that there is a new set of rules where liberals and Democrats are the only ones who are actually expected to match deeds to words anymore.
- neognostic, on 04/08/2008, -5/+28One more word: MORON
- MadKennyP, on 04/08/2008, -6/+29MCCAIN SPENT MORE THAN A YEAR PURSUING AN ENDORSEMENT FROM HAGEE.
Pastor John Hagee called the Catholic Church “the Great Whore,” and accused it of inspiring Adolf Hitler to initiate the Holocaust. Hagee believes that “Hurricane Katrina was, in fact, the judgment of God against the city of New Orleans” for hosting a gay pride parade.
McCain and his staff actively sought out Hagee’s endorsement, he appeared and campaigned with Hagee, he said he was proud to be backed by Hagee. McCain, who had been courting the endorsement for over a year, said that he was “very honored by Pastor John Hagee’s endorsement.” - Kerrigore, on 04/08/2008, -1/+24So that everyone can insist that he must really still secretly agree because this is his pastor?
- osirisothedead, on 04/08/2008, -5/+28Pasture?
- 180andback, on 04/08/2008, -2/+25They don't go see Him, He comes to pick them up. Probably in one of those expensive gas guzzlers from yesterday's article.
- MadKennyP, on 04/08/2008, -2/+24"Mr. McCain began seeking Mr. Hagee’s endorsement more than a year ago, trying to bolster the campaign’s support among evangelical voters." New York Times, April 8, 2008.
