- MindyB, on 08/31/2008, -8/+83Please also remember that the town where she was mayor has a population of 5,500! That is smaller than most neighborhoods in the U.S.!
The population of Alaska is 670,000, a smaller population than Brooklyn, NY! So in essence, she has the ability to govern someplace like Brooklyn, NY, rather than someplace like the United States of America with a population of over 300 million!
Think about it! In the remote chance that McCain wins the election, and should something happen to McCain she would be the one stepping in the shoes of the President of the United States!
Up until a few weeks ago, she had no idea what the VP of the United Stated did or what the job entailed! Clearly ignorant on the U.S. Constitution! She believes that being the VP of the US can help her advance the priorities of Alaska! - Berkana, on 08/31/2008, -6/+80Can you imagine McCain getting ill or dying, and having this hockey mom deal with a belligerent Russia, or China, or some complicated ethnic/religious conflict with a long history she doesn't know errupting into armed conflict? Can you imagine her having a knee-jerk reaction, automatically supporting the "Christian" side of some Balkan ethnic conflict in which Russia is involved?
Like the article said, the real issue isn't Palin; it's McCain's judgment. - BabushkaBlue, on 08/31/2008, -8/+79What frightens me almost as much as McCain's lack of judgment are the Repubicans who actually think she's a brilliant choice! I'm worried about our country. Truly.
- IrvineKinneas50, on 08/31/2008, -7/+62Forget the inexperience.
The woman wants creationism taught in science class, opposes medical benefits for same-sex couples (which is even more extreme than being against gay marriage), and doesn't support contraception. Are you ***** kidding me? What does this say about us as a nation that this person is deemed as an appropriate choice for a vice president? - PhilLesh69, on 08/31/2008, -3/+31She has international experience. Alaska is right up there next to Russia.

I believe someone on the Daily Show summed it up just right -- "The North Pole is also up there. Is she also best friends with Santa Claus?" - GarryBarker, on 08/31/2008, -10/+35There were complaints made about Palin assaulting her 16 year old daughter because she got pregnant, Palin should not be in any form of government let alone be VP. Of course the mccain bury brigade will very quickly brush these incidents under the carpet.
- GregFD3S, on 08/31/2008, -1/+25McCain / Palin '08
(1908) - diggdatt, on 08/31/2008, -1/+22McCain has turned this election into a damn carnival. Here is what I think he was thinking
"we are running against a black guy... lets outdo this love for blacks and pick a hot white chick" - BossKey, on 08/31/2008, -2/+23"There was snide criticism from the Republican establishment that Palin fought in her underdog gubernatorial campaign in 2006, after six years as Wasilla's mayor. 'She's not prepared to be governor; how can she be prepared to be vice president or president?' said state Senate President Lyda Green, a Wasilla Republican who told the Anchorage Daily News that she at first thought news of Palin's selection was a joke."
- Washington Post, yesterday
And the above posters are worried about the _Democrats?_ - Jeveran, on 08/31/2008, -0/+19McCain didn't choose her, Karl Rove did. And if she does, through some devious machinations and a timely death become President, you can be sure she won't be the one in charge.
- akbob, on 08/31/2008, -8/+26By all reports she is not a particulary nice person and in this Alaskan's opinion has been a lousy Governor.
http://allalaskans.com/emperor/2008/08/29/sarah-pa ... - BotchaMcCoola, on 08/31/2008, -1/+16McCain just does not have good judgment. How often must he keep showing it.
- VinnieDaMac, on 08/31/2008, -1/+13I suspect McCain was thinking with his little head on this one.
- Koushiro, on 08/31/2008, -0/+12Not like that's not just something one can fact check.
Here is probably the trouble your having Rek. From Wikipedia.
Wasilla is part of the Anchorage, Alaska Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2000 census, its population was 5,470. The 2005 estimate gives it a population of 8,471, although the city website lists the population as 6,715 - soulodahl, on 08/31/2008, -8/+20Diggers, it makes perfect sense why the McCain team chose Palin... Mc Cain is a puppet and so is Palin. If McCain croaks in office, the neo-con puppeteers have no change in plans... it's a great choice for them in this sense.
- averagemario, on 08/31/2008, -1/+13Just for the record, Brooklyn has a population of 2.5 million, almost 4 times the entire state of Alaska. The borough president Marty Markowitz is more experienced that Palin.
- duckley, on 08/31/2008, -0/+11REMEMBER:
McCain's grandad died at age 61, and his dad died at 70 !
Do you REALLY want Palin as President? - PhilLesh69, on 08/31/2008, -0/+111808.
- IrvineKinneas50, on 08/31/2008, -4/+15"Oh wait, that makes Obama look bad, so I guess that means i'm going to get buried =)." Actually, you're just going to be buried for being a dumbass.
Palin was elected Governor of Alaska in 2006.
Obama was elected senator of Illinois in 2005.
Have an adult help you do the math. - PhilLesh69, on 08/31/2008, -0/+10http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwWGS73v4_k
Steve Doocy, the biggest loser.
"She does know about international relations because she is up there in Alaska, right next door to Russia" (and then another Fox News pundit looks at him, shakes his head in disbelief, and says, "believe me steve, it has nothing to do with that.") - PhilLesh69, on 08/31/2008, -0/+10" for god's sake, stop using abortion as a contraceptive"
evilbob333, do you really believe that people use abortion as their first line of defense against pregnancy?
Holy ***** you are so far up an ideology's ass, you can't even think straight.
I've met women who have had abortions. They are ***** up, I mean seriously mentally deranged with guilt and regret. I don't think they ever expected abortion to be their contraception. I've only understood it to be a very drastic, very last resort thing when they had the worst of luck at the worst of times under the worst of circumstances.
I've never heard a woman say to me, "don't worry about a condom, there's always abortion". Every woman I've ever slept with has always stopped me to ask about a condom, or to tell me that it is okay because they take the pill, or had depro provera shots, or use an IUD, or that they needed to go to the bathroom to put in their diaphragm.
I've never heard any woman say "It's okay, you can cum inside me, I can always get an abortion"
I've had a few experiences with women I slept with who were late, and I said things like "Don't worry. We have all the options available to us. We can get married, or we put it up for adoption, or there's always abortion" and of course, they always get mad at me for even mentioning abortion.
evilbob333, what is the better method for preventing a pregnancy? abstinence? Be my guest, if that's what you think. I like having responsible, consensual sex with women, and they seem to like it just as much as I do. - PhilLesh69, on 08/31/2008, -1/+11She's got TWO years experience as a governor!
TWO YEARS as a governor of a state with a sparse population.
Steve Doocy even claims that she's great with foreign policy because Alaska is close to Russia! He forgot to mention how it is that Bill Richardson isn't equally great with foreign policy for being the governor of a state that borders Mexico, but you just have to go with his moronic statement, because it was supportive of an ideological movement. - PhilLesh69, on 08/31/2008, -8/+18Yeah, but she has "gubernatorial experience" and Obama has no exeperience!
That's the right wing talk radio mantra. And simple minded people are buying that ***** up.
I guess it doesn't matter that Obama ha 8 years experience in the Illinois State Legislature, and over 2 years experience in the US Senate, while this woman has only almost 2 years experience as governor of a state that is sparsely populated.
"SHE'S GOT EXECUTIVE EXPERIENCE!" As long as you are a true believer and a sycophant, this is enough evidence not to vote for the black man. And you don't even have to feel bad about being a racist because that wasn't why you didn't vote for him! - slugdugg, on 08/31/2008, -5/+15Oh I think this pick is serious... as serious as a heart attack.
- Nice2BHere, on 08/31/2008, -1/+10Surely you can't be serious....and don't call me Shirley! What a stupid choice from McCain.
- PhilLesh69, on 08/31/2008, -0/+9ain't creationism right? My pappy says the preacher told him so.
I wasn't at the tent church on the side of the highway that sundee, because I had to shoot the foxes who were eatin' our chickens that day. But mee pappy says that he says so. - schoate09, on 08/31/2008, -0/+9I think he heard The Speech(TM) and said ***** it.
- Kas70, on 08/31/2008, -0/+8I can criticize her because America isn't choosing her, McCain is. America chose Obama knowing his record and resume - and have gotten to know him for over 1-1/2 years. Given McCain's age and health history, putting someone we just met who hasn't proven that America believes in her abilities is just asinine.
- fugazied, on 08/31/2008, -2/+10Seriously who cares about that pregnancy stuff. People need to get their heads out of the tabloids and do a real comparison of the candidates based on POLICY and experience. For my money Obama has much more potential than the other side, he seriously smart, has a vision for a better america and doesn't support more wars for dubious reasons.
- TheRhinoceros, on 08/31/2008, -1/+9I have only one issue with what you said. I seriously doubt she has what it takes to run Brooklyn. They'd eat her for lunch.
Comment, Dugg. - IrvineKinneas50, on 08/31/2008, -0/+8She vetoed it because it was legally unconstitutional. She wanted it to pass. And she's against contraceptives like the pill, not abortion.
- DFutureIsNow, on 08/31/2008, -1/+9It shows what kind of president John McCain would be, he didnt think it was serious that at 73 years of age, if elected he would be the oldest president in history, and that he would need a competent running mate that understood the complexities of the world and the mortal danger we are all in. I mean he wants America to trust Miss Alaska to save them from Bin Laden???
John McCain: BAD JUDGMENT, COUNTRY LAST!! - akbob, on 08/31/2008, -2/+9Then you have to judge her on her "executive experience". Currently under investigation for abuse of her office by the Alaska legislature. On the receiving end of an Ethics complaint from a former state employee. Had to pay 10,000 severance pay to her replacement commissioner of public safety with two weeks in office, after it was revealed he had been reprimanded for sexual harassment in a position of authority. Her administration has been a revolving door as people come and go frequently. She refuses to any responsibility for anything bad that happens, will roll anyone under the bus to protect herself (Mr. Baily is the latest) Is first in line to take all credit particularly if it involves a photo op. I hope the majority of Americans are smarter than the majority of Alaskans and don't fall for that Golly Gee persona.
http://allalaskans.com/emperor/2008/08/29/sarah-pa ... - inactive, on 08/31/2008, -2/+8Do you want to know why we think people not voting for Obama are racists? It is because that is the only remaining reason for not voting for him when you look at all of the history against McCain. He is appealing PURELY to the ignorant voters who don't understand that we can't bully the world into doing what we want. He is appealing PURELY to ignorant Christians who think that voting for their faith is more important than voting for their future.
If you aren't a religious voter for McCain, you're either immensely ignorant and shouldn't reproduce or you're not voting for Obama for non-policy related issues. You can call it "character" or values... but when you boil it down it is really just because he is a young uppity ***** who thinks he is better than you.
News flash, he is better than you. - IrvineKinneas50, on 08/31/2008, -2/+8Uh, yeah, actually. He's been in the senate longer than you've been alive.
- sugarazor, on 08/31/2008, -2/+8"(1) She has five kids, one with down syndrom. You don't think that doesn't give her some credentials?"
Hell no. Jesus Christ, are we truly suggesting that merely having five children qualifies you for the Vice Presidency? Are you ***** kidding me? Ol' Dirty Bastard had 13 kids, maybe Bob Dole should have put him on the ticket in 96! - inactive, on 08/31/2008, -0/+61708.
- Berkana, on 08/31/2008, -5/+11I've heard population figures for the town she was mayor over range from 5,500 to 9,000. Doesn't make a difference to me because she's still a small town mayor and a 1 year 7 month governor, but that's a pretty big range; where are people getting these wide ranging numbers from?
- RekCognize, on 08/31/2008, -8/+14I hate this Palin thing, but I must admit i find it funny that every time I see someone mention the population of her small town, it shrinks incrementally.
"it has a population of only [9,000] [8,500] [7,500] 5,500!"
"Dude she was a mayor of a town with 5 people and a herd of elk!" - Homerr, on 08/31/2008, -2/+7From the quotes I've seen from Palin about what the VP does to what her position on Iraq is it seems obvious to me that she does not have the intellectual curiosity to be VP or President. She is, by choice, as ignorant as Bush about affairs beyond Alaska.
- arkboysooner, on 08/31/2008, -1/+6Bush went to Yale because his dad sent him there. Obama went to Harvard because he earned it. Obama also campaigned and worked his own way to being the democratic nominee. A massive accomplishment considering his lack of experience and the juggernaut in Hillary he had to face to get to this moment. He put himself where he is today. Sarah Pallin was chosen and for superficial reasons at that. This is what I and most others have a problem with. Obama has proven he is a great leader, she has not. Either way, the inexperience argument is null and void from here on out. Both sides of the campaign will just be pointing out their hypocrisy if they continue to attack their opponent's inexperience.
- bobotheking, on 08/31/2008, -0/+5Vegeta! What does the scouter say about the population of Wasilla?
- daggah, on 08/31/2008, -3/+8Yeah, I can imagine Obama as president. I just hope the rest of the country can as well!
- fugazied, on 08/31/2008, -1/+6Write something that is intelligent and not a rant and you might get some moderate responses.
The demographic of Digg might not be so conservative friendly either though.. most people on here are young and/or well educated (university/docorates) and/or progressive and/or atheist/agnostic/progressive-christians. A monster truck forum, old persons forum or pro-war forum might get you in touch with more strictly conservative voters. - Berkana, on 08/31/2008, -2/+7In other words, she becomes a puppet on the hidden hand team of neocons. Great.
- morninglorii, on 08/31/2008, -3/+7Republicans may think she is a brilliant choice for demographic reasons (as in, they think she'll help him win the election), but if you can find me a single person who thinks she's going to be a great VP or president, bring them to me so I can kill them.
- BossKey, on 08/31/2008, -0/+4Hey, I'm not bashing her, let her be a worthy opponent. Read the post...the Republicans are bashing her!
Why do they hate America? - xBarium, on 08/31/2008, -0/+48 A.D.
- TheAtomicMoose, on 08/31/2008, -0/+4Elk are surprisingly litigious; hard to govern.
- PhilLesh69, on 08/31/2008, -2/+6more experience than Obama?
She's been governor for just under TWO years.
Obama has been a senator for just as long, and before that he was a state legislator for almost 8 years.
So he has 4 times (FOUR TIMES) the state level experience that she has, and JUST AS MUCH EXPERIENCE THAT SHE HAS ON THE STATE LEVEL, but on the FEDERAL LEVEL. -
