Wait-- what? - Insightful, on 08/06/2008, -0/+3Did Obama say that or are you making things up?
COURIC: But didn't the surge ... help do that?
OBAMA: Katie. What happens is that if we continue to put $10 billion to $12 billion a month into Iraq, if we are willing to send as many troops as we can muster continually into Iraq? There's no doubt that that's gonna have an impact. But it doesn't meet our long-term strategic goal, which is to make the American people safer over the long term.
COURIC: All that may be true. But do you not give the surge any credit for reducing violence in Iraq?
OBAMA: There is no doubt that the extraordinary work of our U.S. forces has contributed to a lessening of the violence,
COURIC: But talking microcosmically, did the surge, the addition of 30,000 additional troops ... help the situation in Iraq?
OBAMA: "Katie, as ... you've asked me three different times, and I have said repeatedly that there is no doubt that our troops helped to reduce violence. There's no doubt."
Now, you tell me why are we spending $200 billion and 30,000 troops in Iraq, which is not a threat to US, vs not spending that in Afghanistan where Al Qaeda is based who actually do threaten US. Heck even McCain support an Afghanistan surge!
Imagine for a second, that we do spend $200 billion in America for Americans. Help them with the fuel prices, help building our infrastructure, healthcare, how is not a better way to spend our money rather than sending that out of the country. You may support deficit. I do not. - hawkeye17, on 08/06/2008, -0/+2John McCain has been engaging in a BS Surge since he began this presidential campaign. Notice that he never say's HOW he is going to accomplish all these amazing things.......
- Hellman109, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1War on Surge!
Ultimate GOP strategy!
War on *something* is dead, because everyone knows its bunk, so change 'war on' to 'surge' and off you go on your merry way! Anti-Drugs surge, Anti-Terror surge, yay! - duggtodeath, on 08/07/2008, -0/+0Bush tried an economic surge with his stimulus package...didn't work.
- jbenson2, on 08/06/2008, -2/+1You are kidding when you ask "Did Obama say that or are you making things up?" If you are serious, you don't pay much attention to the news.
"I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going to solve the sectarian violence there," the Illinois senator said that night, a month before announcing his presidential bid. "In fact, I think it will do the reverse."
Obama continued to argue throughout 2007 that the troop increase was a mistake. By the early part of this year, he was forced to acknowledge that it had improved security and reduced violence, but he continued to stick by his opposition to the surge.
And in July 2008, Obama removed a reference to the surge as part of "The Problem" section on his Web site devoted to laying out his plan for Iraq. - jbenson2, on 08/06/2008, -4/+2The O-man is famous for his stubborn idiotic comment that he repeats often: the Iraq surge would not work, will not work, and did not work.
But he wants to have an an Afghanistan surge.
