McCain's Chances May Have Hit a New Nader
washingtonpost.com — Bob Barr could gore McCain. Ron Paul's activists are swarming local Republican party committees and conventions, quietly capturing or lining up delegates. Over one million people have voted for him. That's twice as many votes as Bush lost by in 2000.

Ron Paul 2008- LadyHoldem, on 05/17/2008, -2/+3As we wake up? We were asleep before? Or just ignorant?
- Asheis, on 05/18/2008, -0/+2I think you missed the point. Ron Paul knows it's hopeless at this point. He's doing what he can to assure that McCain doesn't win the GE. He's sabotaging the repugs to give our dem nominee the popular GE vote.
Gotta love Ron Paul, He was the candidate I wanted to see win, for sure. He's putting his power to good use, I think.
- LumpyRevolution, on 05/17/2008, -0/+24I absolutely love this man! The r3VOLution is our only hope!
Dr. Ron Paul for President 2008 - JohnGalt72, on 05/17/2008, -0/+11Props to the Washington Compost.
They got it right...for once. - lazerus9, on 05/17/2008, -0/+15Is McCain still running?
- TheEngineer2008, on 05/17/2008, -0/+11In October, I'll enjoy asking neocons if they're voting for McCain. If they answer affirmatively, I'll ask why they're voting for him when he can't win. :-)
- Robjayne, on 05/17/2008, -0/+7That gave me a chuckle, I'll have to remember that and use it also.
- vault, on 05/18/2008, -5/+2Yeah and unlike Paul he actually has a chance.

Maybe if somehow the McCain Train is derailed ala the Ron Paul Revolution the GOP will get on track, get on board the RP Train.
The whistle is blowing; the the train is preparing to leave the station, tickets please! - freedomwv, on 05/17/2008, -1/+13Good the Neo-Cons need to know and understand that they are tearing the GOP in two with their pro-war pro-socialist agenda. The revolution will not go away.
- Research101, on 05/17/2008, -0/+15Keep fighting the good fight.... Go RON PAUL!!!!!
- PongGod, on 05/18/2008, -0/+12Bob Barr certainly is no Ron Paul, but if he's what it takes to ensure that McCain loses in November, then I'm all for it. It's imperative that the GOP doesn't continue winning by nominating statist warmongers like Bush and McCain. Maybe four years of Hillobama will make them wish they had given some serious consideration to Ron Paul.
- Sogui, on 05/18/2008, -4/+1Yea, nominating Ron Paul would have done wonders for the party... judging by his primary performance.
- PongGod, on 05/18/2008, -1/+8Oh, and kudos for the great pun in the subject heading!
- kemp34, on 05/18/2008, -0/+7Yeah, that was a solid double entendre.
- jmpeagle, on 05/18/2008, -4/+1lining up delegates? He can't come close to stopping McCain's nomination and then after that he can't sway a single state away from McCain. What matters in the national election is the electoral college.
- AriaStar, on 05/18/2008, -1/+1I think my brain has exploded with the punning. I've officially hit the point of Political-Crap Overload.
- NyteStarNyne, on 05/18/2008, -2/+7Who's the real comeback kid? Clinton? ***** No.
Ron Paul 0'***** 8. - madfrogurt, on 05/18/2008, -4/+3Congrats Paulites, you may garner just enough bitter, stubborn support to cause a 5 minute road bump during the convention!
- Sogui, on 05/18/2008, -6/+2One million votes for Ron Paul, that's 100x times as much as 10,000. The square root of 10,000 is 100. 100 is the age of my great grandfather before he passed away. My great grandfather once said "Better late than never". Than rhymes with pan. Pan and Paul start with the same letter. Paul is Ron Paul's last name.
Ergo, RON PAUL IS DESTINED FOR THE WHITE HOUSE! (I can use Paulite logic too!)
But seriously I stopped as soon as I read "Bob Barr could gore McCain", I dunno how deep in the delusion ditch you have to be to think the Libertarian party will have a major effect on the election. At least the Green Party "steals" votes, the Libertarian crowd consists almost solely of people who would never vote for McCain in the first place. Same logic applies to the Paulites, I doubt any of them were planning on voting for McCain and then suddenly the mirror opposite of McCain (Paul) shows up and they suddenly changed their entire political philosophy and decides to vote for Paul.- PongGod, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Bob Barr has proven support amongst many conservative Republicans who are not at all enthusiastic about the idea of voting for a non-conservative such as John McCain. Barr, if he does end up being the LP's nominee, could easily steal enough votes from McCain in several key states to ensure he loses.
Nader, on the other hand, is unlikely to have much of an effect at all. After what he did to Gore in 2000, very few Democratic voters have any love for him, as evidenced by his dramatically lower voting totals in 2004. I expect his 2008 showing to be even weaker.

- andy2245, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Why are there so many Ron Paul comments on a Bob Barr article?
