- patrickloggins, on 08/29/2008, -105/+1712How much of this is actual policy and character choice and how much is this appeasement to Clinton Supporters?
- Smurph0404, on 08/29/2008, -96/+1425Locking up the highly contested state of Alaska...
- fl0wzilla, on 08/29/2008, -164/+1294I like how the potential VP of the United States is a publicity stunt.
America, ***** yea. - inactive, on 08/29/2008, -56/+1033McCain/MILF 2008
- Suzpaz, on 08/29/2008, -221/+1121Poor woman. Being selected purely for her gender to try and use it in a political game to win voters. Hopefully the swinging Hillary supporters will see through this *****-move by McCain.
And correct me if I'm wrong. Isn't she even less experienced than Obama? - Harbinger1080, on 08/29/2008, -61/+723Yep... they both did exactly what was expected-- Obama went with an old white guy, and McCain went with a woman.
What a crazy race.
Will be crazy to see how my Clinton supporters go Repub now. - Ranger002, on 08/29/2008, -136/+739McCain says Obama is inexperienced.
He then picks "Palin, 44, who's in her first term as governor, of ALASKA" as being the person next in line for the presidency, if something ever happened to him.....
Something seem off here? - inactive, on 08/29/2008, -18/+543Can you imagine what Hillary Clinton is screaming at her tv this morning????
- LibertyForever, on 08/29/2008, -188/+577If true, this is a brilliant move by McCain:
1. She would be the only candidate with executive experience (McCain, Biden, Obama only have legislative experience)
2. Appeals to conservatives
3. Will channel the women vote, and Hillary supporters' in particular
4. Charismatic, smart, principled, dedicated, American all the way
5. Younger than Obama
6. Wow factor: will definitely embellish the ticket ;)
McCain has also been smart about keeping his choice secret to the end - experience counts I guess.
Looking impatiently for a confirmation - that will be the news of the week. - MoeWasHere, on 08/29/2008, -108/+472It's official : McCain doesn't care about the Independent vote.
They are TOTALLY COURTING THE HILLARY CLINTON VOTE.
Their message is : Vote for the GOP, 'cause if McCain DIES then you get a women as president.
The only question is - how much power will she really have? - sekhar0107, on 08/29/2008, -70/+433How sad/sick Politics has become... Down's Syndrome is now a Political advantage!
- inactive, on 08/29/2008, -101/+447It's on now baby.
- VoidTemplar, on 08/29/2008, -62/+384"Ha ha, I picked a woman he didn't...vote for me Hillary supporters"
...sadly....i think it might work too. - danielrh9, on 08/29/2008, -38/+349Look, I'm voting for Obama. But I'm going to go ahead and say it anyways.
Sarah Palin is a MILF. - relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -87/+369John McCain has been bashing Barack Obama on the experience issue for the past year, and now here is, with one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel, and he taps a person who's been governor for about as long as he's been campaigning to be his running mate and succeed him in the White House. That's a year-and-a-half as governor and two terms on a small-town Alaska city council before that.
No, this isn't a desperate play for the Hillary vote. - inactive, on 08/29/2008, -262/+536This is great news. Sarah is a true conservative and a wonderful pick for VP. She's also the only one of the four Nominee/VP that has run a state as a Governor, which is a big asset. She has preserved Alaska's resources, put a stop to the Bridge to Nowhere project and even sold off the jet purchased by the previous administration rather than use it herself. A real fiscal conservative, she actually ran against the incumbent Republican governor and won that primary. She also had an approval rating in the 90s! Kudos to McCain, a great choice.
- chuckDontSurf, on 08/29/2008, -28/+294McMilf?
- inactive, on 08/29/2008, -91/+315Either way, she has a great track record, is a true conservative, mother of 5, one child is serving in Iraq, one child has downs syndrome. This is going to throw a huge wrench into Obama's plans.
- holzp, on 08/29/2008, -64/+269McCain is so old he may expire from the stress of his Inauguration. His Veep has a serious chance at becoming President by default. Obama could afford to make a demographic pick. McCain could not. It was a thin attempt to pick up women voters that is going to drive away a lot more thoughtful voters from the middle. She has been Governor for two years? Of Alaska?
Sure she could be Commander-in-Cheif in six months, no problem. All she needs is a montage. - sig331, on 08/29/2008, -49/+252Either way we are getting a first...
African American President or female Vice President
Should be interesting.
I think McCain is getting scared, trying to get the people mad about Hillary not being on Obama's ticket. - dt3k, on 08/29/2008, -98/+300This is an absolutely outstanding selection by John McCain. 5 Children, Nicknamed Sarah Barracude in high school....Has a kid with Down syndromes, appeals big time to conservatives, a member of Feminist for Life, This is huge.....this will pull women and all the conservative hold outs. A lot of women can say that they will back Obama, but when they are in the voting box with the curtain closed I've got a feeling a lot are going to pick the female.
- uptown, on 08/29/2008, -23/+197So his wife is an ex-beauty queen... and Sarah Palin was Second Place in Miss Alasks.
Look out Cindy! - oPoTyKaH, on 08/29/2008, -50/+218She is hot! Hot women like her make people survive Alska winters.
- sKiLLa182, on 08/29/2008, -42/+200This is probably the best pick for McCain. Romney would've ruined him. He's totally going to try and steal all those Clinton sympathizers.
What away to steal Obama's thunder, too. Everyone is talking about his awesome speech last night, but it's going to get overshadowed by McCain's surprise VP pick because it's a female that no one has heard of. - kratsnitram, on 08/29/2008, -118/+273This is absurd. McCain hits out at Obama for not being qualified and he picks a former mayor of Mayberry with two years experience over a tiny state? This is hilarious! I've never seen a major political figure commit ritual suicide in public.
token candidates FTW! - TrueXtremeIcon, on 08/29/2008, -20/+173Note: Obama supporter here.
Palin herself is a first term governor and also a former mayor of a small town in Alaska. Although that overall doesn't amount to much, she does have more "Executive" experience than McCain, Obama, and Biden all rolled into one. Whether that means anything of worth is up for debate.
This really does look like a grab for the female vote and that's pretty much it. The female vote has been resoundingly in favor of Obama vs. McCain, quite evident in how vocal some are in support of Hillary even after she tells them to support Barack. Yeah...this really does look like its just a play for the young and predominantly female bloc. - hwy9nightkid, on 08/29/2008, -23/+170Id put her on MY ticket, if ya know what I mean
- wild, on 08/29/2008, -13/+156The only Clinton supporters this is going to attract are the ones who were never going to vote Obama anyway. And just wait until Hillary comes out firing about Palin's views on women's rights.
- GawtMilk, on 08/29/2008, -31/+174She seems like a great fiscal conservative.
1) Ended the bridge to no where project
2) Sold the previous Governor's Westwind II private jet
3) Not hypocritical: Son in Iraq, son with Downs Syndrome [Pro-Life debate]
4) Great energy plan
5) Canceled various state-sponsored roads that would only benefit large private companies
If anyone has any "dirt" on Palin, I'd love to hear it. I'm interested in any poor decisions she's made, etc. I'll read all the replies to this comment, but she seems like a genuine person who would be a great VP in 2009. - EndrWiggin, on 08/29/2008, -29/+162This is an insult to Clinton supporters who backed a seasoned veteran politician with years and years of experience...not to mention...a Democrat. My Hillary-supporting friends all feel insulted by this pick. I hope the rest feel the same way. I'm not saying Palin would make a good VP, I don't know. But this smells of an election tactic instead of looking out for what's best for the country...especially when McCain is attacking Obama's experience.
- j1a1g1, on 08/29/2008, -36/+166Well there will be either a black man or a woman winning in office!
- bgrah449, on 08/29/2008, -15/+143Fapulous.
- dodgejon, on 08/29/2008, -34/+160You don't get it? He didn't need to lock up a state when he was able to help lock up a demographic segment of total voters... Picking a woman will give him a strong advantage...
- sighmunhan, on 08/29/2008, -32/+155Offshore drilling, here we come! Oh man.
- Jauladeoro, on 08/29/2008, -51/+169That is pretty pathetic in my opinion, that a woman would vote simply for another woman. I think it's pathetic to vote for anyone based on what label they fall under or what box they fit into whether it be gender, religion, race or even party affiliation. What ever happened to learning about the issues and researching what a candidate stands for?
That's what I've done and I'm voting Obama/Biden. - AdInventive, on 08/29/2008, -68/+184Uhm isn't she under state probe for using her power in office to try and fire her ex -brother-in-law from a state trooper's position?
lol gg - costumemaker, on 08/29/2008, -38/+140female in alaska? So that gives him:
- a bunch of freaky messed up obama-hating females trying to ruin 4 years of the country to prove a point.
- a reason to say 'I am progressive'
- alaska oil drilling leverage.
I cant wait to see the first REAL debate. - NyteStarNyne, on 08/29/2008, -14/+115You're saying hopefully Clinton supporters will see through the B.S? Not be manipulated by cheap tactics?
AHAHAHAHAHA.....no seriously? - rz8472, on 08/29/2008, -6/+102This is not the first time McCain has gone for a younger and more attractive woman... just sayin'...
- Y2JCrisis, on 08/29/2008, -52/+148You realize she has no national experience, no foreign policy cred, and has to debate Joe Biden, right?
You should pick a VP who will be able to handle the presidency, especially if you're 72. She is not able to do this. - Reaktor5, on 08/29/2008, -3/+98I cannot wait to see the Biden/Palin debates.
- peticsu, on 08/29/2008, -83/+175lol, shes got republican/conservative credentials, she is under state investigation...
- inactive, on 08/29/2008, -34/+124@sekhar0107: It is when you say you are pro-life and actually live up to it. Nobody can take away the fact that this women supports an ideology and actually lives with it's consequences. That give her something that none of the other candidates have. Integrity!
- doublebummer, on 08/29/2008, -5/+92Excuse me, but she's only half-woman. I heard her father was a man.
- snotrokit, on 08/29/2008, -114/+201Completely a publicity stunt aimed at disenfranchised Hillary voters. Sad to see Mrs. Palin being used as nothing more than a pawn.
- Skitzzo, on 08/29/2008, -36/+118As opposed to Biden who voted for the war in Iraq and has been in the Senate longer than McCain?
Explain to me how Biden fits with Obama's mantra of change? - madjoyish, on 08/29/2008, -52/+131As a fairly pro-life woman, let me tell you that I will NEVER vote McCain/Palin. I don't care if Palin is a woman, she's wrong on all the issues. And that decision is not going to change once I get inside the voting booth - give us women some credit.
- ByteGuerilla, on 08/29/2008, -24/+102"She hunts, eats moose hamburger, ice fishes, rides snowmobiles, and owns a float plane.[11][12] Palin holds a lifetime membership with the National Rifle Association." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_Palin
Now that's my kind of woman. - wild, on 08/29/2008, -15/+88Feminists don't vote for politicians who are against women's rights.
- Ryman21, on 08/29/2008, -3/+74I lol'd hard.
