- shupy, on 05/22/2009, -15/+187Poor John.
It is hard to maintain your integrity and still be a Republican. - thegsa, on 05/23/2009, -2/+109Quote:
And then he got acerbic: Cheney, he says, “believes that waterboarding doesn’t fall under the Geneva Conventions and that it’s not a form of torture. But you know, it goes back to the Spanish Inquisition.”
I didn't expect that. - inactive, on 05/22/2009, -22/+100Good article. But, the lead-in here on Digg contains one glaring error: Fox is not "news"... it is horrible right-wing propaganda, lies and smears.
- altgeeky1, on 05/23/2009, -6/+77Actually I like John McCain when he's not running for President.
Unfortunately for him, his wife doesn't. - moulin1, on 05/22/2009, -7/+69I never really had a bad word for McCain but one. He and other traditional conservatives lack the will and imagination to either kick cavmemen like Cheney and Limbaugh out or form their own party without them.
- AlKo, on 05/22/2009, -6/+68John... being Mavericky
- Briandrews15, on 05/23/2009, -5/+59How can this be? McCain said Bush/Cheney committed war crimes????
"It's (waterboarding) torture. It's in violation of the Geneva Conventions."
Are criminals prosecuted in this country or what? PS: Obama is an accomplice if he continues to block prosecution. - 10lbhammer, on 05/22/2009, -4/+46hmm, maybe you should listen to 'mancow,' who also contended that waterboarding wasn't torture:
http://digg.com/world_news/Conservative_radio_host ... - azureskies88, on 05/23/2009, -1/+41Presidential Candidate McCain is not the same man as Senator McCain.
- mrsteveman1, on 05/23/2009, -2/+40No one said that.
- voyetra8, on 05/23/2009, -4/+41As a former citizen of Arizona, I loved McCain. He was a logical conservative, not beholden to the religious right, and while I didn't agree with him on everything, it was clear he was a capable of rational thought.
Going into the general election, he became controlled, guided, and mishandled by the GOP.
This is, IMO, the main reason why he lost the election. - Pshiz, on 05/23/2009, -1/+34"Yeah, because ..omg look over there"!!!
- 10lbhammer, on 05/22/2009, -2/+32"the majority of american people"? find me the statistic to back that up. until you can, you just prove yourself as a chicken hawk.
- rynsa, on 05/23/2009, -2/+31He spent five years in a POW camp in Vietnam! McCain's crystal-clear stance against torture isn't some cunning new ploy designed to endear himself to the American left; it's legitimate disgust based in real-life experience! The man is one of the most consistent and informed anti-torture voices in Washington, and he has been for a long, long time!
Your comment is utterly ridiculous. That said, if the Republicans throw McCain under the bus (or any other reasonable public personae, for that matter) the way you have, then they really are a fringe political party and well deserving of their continued marginalization. - briansalo, on 05/23/2009, -2/+27NOBODY expects the SPANISH INQUISITION!
Sorry. - Subduction, on 05/23/2009, -1/+24Except it means much less now that I've learned he was willing to say anything his Republican handlers told him to say during the campaign.
One element of being a maverick is having the courage of your convictions. During the war he had more courage than any of use will likely be able to imagine. But during the campaign it was impossible to tell what his convictions were, because he showed no courage whatsoever.
He can say whatever he wants now that it means very little. - FirstOne1, on 05/23/2009, -1/+23Trolls are not annoying.
- altgeeky1, on 05/23/2009, -2/+22Can't you just become wahaabi and leave us alone?
- CrimsonBlur, on 05/23/2009, -1/+21You win the Internets today.
- inactive, on 05/23/2009, -3/+23Gotta love Fox News -- They show John McCain calling it torture with a graphic below him "Sen John McCain talks about use of Enhanced Interrogation Techniques".
Poor Johnny... - SystemicThought, on 05/23/2009, -6/+25I always respected McCain for his stance on torture. The man isn't very capable of thinking outside of his experiences regarding things like gay marriage, abortion, and poverty. He's never been there, he can't understand. But he's been tortured, excessively, and knows what it's worth and what it feels like. He's learned from that experience, though.
- topgigmedia, on 05/23/2009, -1/+20I can think of another... Sarah Palin.
- kuys, on 05/22/2009, -2/+21Waterboarding isn't torture? Ok, let me come and waterboard you then? If it isn't torture as you claim, I'm sure you have no qualms about showing everyone right?
- rynsa, on 05/23/2009, -2/+20"...traitor Leftists...?"
What is this?... Lord of the Flies?!
Buried for letting your ignorant, melodramatic ass get access to the internet before graduating from middle school. - inactive, on 05/23/2009, -5/+22That's not what he said at all. He said that Fox is not news, that it is horrible right-wing propaganda, lies and smears. And he's right.
Huffington Post and Daily KOS cite their references and sources. They may have a left-wing slant towards what they report, but they try to be truthful. And vicious? Guys like Hannity and O'Reilly spew venomous lies to incite hatred. They scream their opinions as if that makes them more valid. They commentate and call it news.
Your jump to "According to you, wing propoganda is not news" is just as false.
I've noticed on sites like digg that the right-wing fanatics call the HuffPost names, but they never cite references to show their articles are wrong. Strange how Fox can always be PROVEN wrong. - rpgmakr, on 05/23/2009, -1/+17I didn't know you had unfettered access to Cindy Mccain's head.
- NorthMass, on 05/23/2009, -3/+18John is not a maverick. He just sometimes agrees with Democrats on immigration, torture, and campaign finance reform. If he was a true "maverick", he would be speaking out against the Patriot Act, the War on Drugs, etc.
- brownsound00, on 05/23/2009, -7/+22I think if he didn't pick Palin, you guys would have him as president.
- enantiodromia, on 05/23/2009, -1/+161/10
it seems you didn't even try.
i suggest reading some comments from the following trolls to see how it is done:

awboy666 - NorthMass, on 05/23/2009, -5/+20John McCain, you had a chance to stop Obama if you actually became a real conservative and started opposing war, the Patriot Act, bailouts, and deficit spending(not pork barrel spending which accounts for virtually none of the budget.) Start acting like a real conservative for once.
- brownsound00, on 05/23/2009, -3/+18What else do you want? You have Army, navy and Seals calling it torture (Ventura et al) You have right wing conservatives calling it torture (Mancow), you have your President calling it torture (Obama), you have the Republican candidate from the election... i.e., the one that represented the whole party, calling it torture (McCain). Plus, you have Cheney not calling it torture (he's an idiot). What else do you want?
- foofightrs777, on 05/23/2009, -6/+21If this man didn't go into hiding in the months prior to the 2008 election we may very well have had a different president.
- topgigmedia, on 05/23/2009, -2/+16nice circular thinking accident.
- Vaiper, on 05/23/2009, -0/+14I guess when you don't have to worry about running for president ever again you can start to say what you really think. I was surprised as well.
- gerrylazlo, on 05/23/2009, -1/+15I don't think technical definitions come into play when you think you're drowning.
- netneutrality, on 05/23/2009, -0/+14He was never for it. He always spoke against it, and had pledged to shut down Guantanamo Bay too.
- captspaulding, on 05/23/2009, -4/+16PeneDeCaballo shut up you coward.
- trickyt, on 05/23/2009, -2/+13He didn't pick Palin, but then he wasn't the one doing the picking.
- Briandrews15, on 05/23/2009, -0/+11The group is huge. They are the same people. lol
http://digg.com/politics/Survey_Churchgoers_are_mo ... - seltaeb4, on 05/23/2009, -0/+11Fox also pioneered another bit of NewSpeak when they re-dubbed suicide bombers "homicide bombers."
Not sure what that one was supposed to prove, but what Rupert wants, Rupert gets. - 8FoldPath, on 05/23/2009, -2/+13It makes you feel like you're drowning. Drowning = death.
- TJourney, on 05/23/2009, -8/+18I've been saying since I was 13.... I'd be honored to meet John McCain and shake his hand. His service and sense of duty garner the utmost respect. I tend to disagree with him on many policy matters, but that does not shake my respect for the man.
(I'm a social and economic liberal) - DivisibleByZero, on 05/23/2009, -1/+11That's the reason I voted for Obama. McCain just wanted the title, not the job.
- nullcodes, on 05/23/2009, -4/+14The excuse given by neocons when it was said that torture would cause mistreatment of soldiers was that "they will mistreat anyway" and "who cares if they want to get angry ;... bring 'em on".
However, when the incriminating photos were about to be released neocons were saying "it would anger the enemy".
It seems we were actually dealing with sadistic paranoid schizophrenia in the former and covering one's cowardly ass in the latter instance. That's the only reason why someone would give two logically opposite rationalizations. - rotundo, on 05/23/2009, -1/+10What in the world does his wife have to do with anything?
- altgeeky1, on 05/23/2009, -3/+12That's because America suffers lock-in that prevents a third viable party.
Without the electoral college, the GOP *could* call the bluff of the christian fundamentalists... who would then fall in like. Or the Dems could do the same to their (mostly unemployed now) union base.
Just maybe a third party could them elbow out 1 of the dominant two. It'd be nice to see this happen while the middle class is still a majority of the population (rapidly shrinking though). - altgeeky1, on 05/23/2009, -4/+12I'm sure you'd volunteer to PROVE it.. but you're so busy being a Republican and all, you'll cash in 5 deferments or so. But you want to.
- brownsound00, on 05/23/2009, -0/+8Yeah true, needs more grammatical errors. Too much punctuation. You expect to piss people off with full sentences? Come on Pene, get real. Moreover, there is a lack of keywords such as "Gay, Fags, or *****". Should probably throw a few of those in, and that'll give you 1 or 2 more points. Lastly, you really gotta make the post stick out. You need a hook... something enticing, or just put it all in caps. That usually works.
Anyways, hope that helps... happy trolling! - inactive, on 05/23/2009, -5/+13Well at least we know he actually has some integrity left. A logical conservative is a dying breed in the Republican party. Shame he gave in and ran a fear mongering campaign.
- giveer, on 05/23/2009, -1/+9You're a better person than me, I would've buried him based just on his grammar sucking nuts.
