- edgefield, on 09/10/2008, -3/+32Excellent article. fname, thanks for posting. Please digg!
- GymKatch, on 09/10/2008, -2/+30Wow. This is from a former McCain supporter. It takes guts to do this but he's right.
- dmacsch, on 09/10/2008, -2/+27Concise and to the point - and very important. It doesn't matter what others say - it is what the candidates say and do. McCain? QED!
- VulcanMike, on 09/10/2008, -2/+25Right on. I had some respect for McCain when this election began, especially with his promises of clean campaigning. My respect is now gone and McCain's public image will be tarnished going forward -- even if he does manage a win.
- heronimous, on 09/10/2008, -1/+21hear hear!
- jepaco, on 09/10/2008, -1/+18It's very sad that the McCain campaign detaches further and further from truth and substance. The country deserves better. Even though I support Obama, I still would like to see his ideas debated and tested in the campaign. But McCain doesn't have the courage to step up.
- gsadamb, on 09/10/2008, -2/+17Coming from a self-described conservative, the criticism is all the more stinging.
- edmondburke, on 09/10/2008, -2/+17A rather obvious statement to anyone with a midgen of intelligence and judgement!!!
- danholt7, on 09/10/2008, -3/+15McCain has completely sold out. Sold his honor to a pig.
- cedarbaydave, on 09/11/2008, -2/+11McCain is not in control of his campaign by any means anymore. Yet, he insists he can turn Washington on his ear.
It is sad to see a great man lose his honor in a quest purely to secure what he views as a more prominent place in history. - angusm, on 09/11/2008, -1/+7McCain lost my respect when he started fawning all over Bush. During the 2000 campaign, Bush "supporters" ran a number of smear campaigns, including one that claimed McCain's adopted daughter was actually his illegitimate child (his daughter is South Asian so as an added bonus the whispering campaign pointed to her dark skin and hinted that her supposed mother was African-American, a detail targeted to appeal to racists). There is plenty of reason to believe - see http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2008/01/21/ ... - that those campaigns were initiated by people very close to Bush; McCain certainly believed at the time that they did.
If you lend your support to people who you know for a fact are completely without honor, what does that say about yours? If you kiss up to the man who kicked you in the face publicly, what else are you prepared to do to become president? - inactive, on 09/11/2008, -3/+8The basic fact is that the Republicans are trying to distract us, the voters, from the real problems that we are facing with this starlight show of a pick of Sarah Palin. Obama is trying to focus on the real issues at hand, and if he sticks to his guns with the true facts of how Obama will give the lower classes better tax cuts and oust the strangle hold the oil companies have on the Internal workings of the executive branch. Believe me, when we invaded Iraq, our oil companies weren't far behind. You think I lie about this, but I work for one of those oil companies.I respect the republican ideals of a small government and more money to the people to use as they see fit... but we must see that the last 8 years have been mostly downhill with an incompetent administration that lets power betray their morals and sells us all out for profit. That and they can't balance the budget for *****.
I highly respect McCain as a person, but this campaign and the 4 year term that he's hoping to serve will not put this country first. - inactive, on 09/11/2008, -2/+6lol! Apparently this scumbag has the exact character necessary to be president.
- stonecircle, on 06/11/2009, -3/+6 "This will be a long and hard and well-fought and, I believe, honorable campaign, one that is marked by respect," ~ McCain
If we can't count on him to live up to this promise, how can we trust him with governing our nation? - kurttrail, on 09/11/2008, -0/+3The only thing that is apparent is how desperate ya'll are to ***** America for another 4 years of Bush-like policies.
- davidpdx, on 09/11/2008, -2/+5Old, enept and cranky, John McCain!
The first time he gets into a disagreement on the phone with a world leader, I can see him going off and yelling foul things at him. That's not the kind of leader we need. - saranac7, on 09/11/2008, -0/+2Your commentary is stunningly ironic, not supportive of this article and yes, scary. Ms Palin is to womens rights what Bush is to MENSA
- sindy0177, on 09/11/2008, -0/+2very well written and I couldn't agree with you more. McCain is a joke and should be ashamed of the way he has ran his campaign, but he isn't and that's what makes it so bad. He has sold his soul to beat a better candidate at any cost and has endangered everyone in America with his reckless VP pick and if she had any common decency she would have not accepted, but she doesn't so she is a freaking pig!
- vexingmodstwo, on 09/11/2008, -0/+2Obama's already spent it and now needs to raise 80 million a month to keep up with what McCain and the RNC already have.
But it is okay that he broke that promise because it's "the One", right? Is that what you're saying? - inactive, on 09/11/2008, -4/+6How is Obama a racist? He has worked tirelessly to make sure that race isn't an issue that's brought up. He hasn't played the race card. McCain, on the other hand, plays the POW card nearly every time that he talks.
- shauncorleone, on 09/11/2008, -0/+2The problem is that people have different definitions of "Country First". Libs (doesn't mean all Democrats) believe that "Country First" refers to giving the government the power to help all its people. Conservatives (not all Republicans) believe it means the government staying out of the way, giving the people the power to help themselves.
- inactive, on 09/11/2008, -1/+3Why McCain is not qualified to president:
http://inplacenews.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/1-m ... - jchaz, on 09/11/2008, -0/+2An excellent analysis of the import of McCain's choices which were far from Country First. It came quickly into focus how gastly his carrying water for the Bush Regime has been.
- Crabmen, on 09/14/2008, -0/+2You see, the Democrats can't win the "character game." The American people are confident of McCain's character due to his history in the military as well as observing him in service over the years. What they don't know, and what the Obama campaign seems very eager to hide, is the Obama history. His own writings are fictional and there has been an effort to disguise his past, including his associates. It seems the only people who accept the Obama "character" are the leftists.
Makes you wonder.... - tkstock, on 09/11/2008, -0/+2NinjaJoey,
So, you don't blame Barack Obama for doing what's best for Barack Obama? Let's hope our next president doesn't feel that way. I would prefer a candidate that does what's best for our country - you know, the ole "Country First" theme which Obama has such a hard time with. - bmaggiemay, on 09/11/2008, -0/+2A voice of reason among these carpetbaggers
- uncleosbert, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1but his article doesn't lie. how can you support these people in good conscience? conservatives have trashed our economy and infrastructure over the last 8 years, and mccain has snapped into line to run for president. how can you ignore the way they trample our rights and use women as political tools?
- tkstock, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1How exactly is Palin in the pocket of the oil companies? Because she wants to drill in ANWR? Maybe that's because she's in the pocket of 60%+ of Americans.
Hmm... - vexingmodstwo, on 09/11/2008, -1/+2You mean like promising to use public funding and then going back on that promise?
Wait... that was Obama. - deem1890, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1Why can't McCain ....."SHOW ME THE MONEY"... PEOPLE ARE LOSING HOMES, JOBS...
PALIN IS GREEDY AND A LIAR... MCCAIN PALIN TICKET, ARE NOT FIT TO WALK! - tkstock, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1Quite simply: "And now they are supporting a guy that rather lie about pigs..." in reference to John McCain.
I'm sorry, were you saying that Obama is the "guy that rather lie about pigs"? Considering you're calling me a "rightard", I only assume you wouldn't disparage your own candidate.
Typical leftard! Claim stupidity (not that the claim isn't valid). - tkstock, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1kurttrail,
Too bad you just don't get it. And that's why you fail.
BTW, where did McCain lie about pigs, exactly? Quotes? References? - rbrinega, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1After the last couple of weeks, McCain's respectability for me has gone from mediocre to downright Bush-y and Rovian.
- deem1890, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1Makes you wonder how McCain has lost it!
Crappy old man forgot how to become a real American... - kurttrail, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1And where did you get that made up number?
But hey, at one time over 70% of Americans were for the Iraqi War.
When did you Rightards change America into a tyranny of the majority? - tkstock, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1shaun, I would take your statement a bit further.
"Country First" means the same thing for both campaigns - giving the people of this country a better life and all that task encompasses.
Liberals think that is accomplished by giving more power to the government - that the government is the provider for the people. Conservatives believe that is accomplished by getting government out of your way and out of your pocket, teaching people self-reliance. - rbrinega, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1ooh, misspelling disqualifying a blog! Are you going to say this person was being sexist because he was dissing Tori Spelling? Get a life, get a clue, and muddy the waters elsewhere.
Actually, I would characterize this as more character analysis based on previous information about Senator McCain's temper (see Thad Cochrane, Republican Senator from Mississippi, for comments about McCain's temper) rather than ad hominem. I agree with you old and inept haven't been described in davidpdx's blog, so shouldn't be part of the title. I'm not digging davidpdx's post, but I'm burying yours. - uncleosbert, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1i'm glad to see someone highlighting the fact that john mccain threw fellow veterans under the bus whenever it was politically expedient. it's ironic to see him campaigning with his pow story while he defends the right of the united states government to hold people for years with no charges or legal representation, and even ship them abroad to be tortured. thank you for posting!
- mrbuddy, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1Senator Obama is so intelligent and ahead of all. Where can Hillary help him the most???In the Senate or the cabinet! I hope she stays in the senate for all our sakes.Wouldn't it be great if somehow she replaced Harry Reid??Please people look at the big picture.
- uncleosbert, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1easy, we haven't been asleep for the past eight years while your candidate and party became violent, bellicose extremists.
- holesome, on 09/11/2008, -1/+1If you're going to sink to ad hominem attacks, you ought to at least spell check words such as "inept." Screwing up that second word tends to undermine your credibility to employ the term, which qualifies as flagrant irony.
- mordochai, on 09/11/2008, -2/+2He also lacks the...um....life force.
- kurttrail, on 09/11/2008, -1/+1Yeah, it's a big change from Cheney/Palin being in the pocket of the Oil Companies.
- kurttrail, on 09/11/2008, -1/+1tkstack
When did I say "McCain lie about pigs, exactly?"
Typical rightard! When you cannot argue against someone's actual opinion, try to rephrase the argument. - kurttrail, on 09/11/2008, -1/+1"Country First" is totally anti-Christian, as God is supposed to be first.
The religious right is a bunch of hypocrites, trying to serve both mammon and God. And Yeshua said that serving two masters is impossible.
And now they are supporting a guy that rather lie about pigs, than talk about anything meaningful to our country.
John McCain would rather lose all dignity and respect than lose the Presidency! - Gemfinder, on 09/11/2008, -1/+1Damn...I just visualized a pig with a trunk!
- NinjaJoey, on 09/11/2008, -2/+1Usually I'd be annoyed about him going back on a promise, but I honestly believe that any politician would have done that same in his situation. John McCain can't raise as much money as Obama can, which is mostly why it upset him. See http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/money/index.html
In case you don't want to check, Obama has raised 401 million and McCain 171 million. - twoofmyfriends, on 09/11/2008, -4/+3McCain = Republican pig
