For the last several decades this side of Christianity, which I would "like" to call mainstream, has been almost completely drowned out by the likes of John Hagee, Pat Robertson, Benny Hinn, Jerry Falwell, and others. And you know what's made that possible? It's the willingness of this brighter side of Christianity to cast their votes with the prejudices and hypocrisy of those who don't really represent them.
This election presents an opportunity for a lot people to redeem what used to be considered Christianity. It'll be either that or they'll just continue running it down the tubes. - alapoet, on 06/10/2008, -3/+5McCain is almost laughable in his fumblingly clumsy embrace of evangelicals -- especially since you know he's wincing and grimacing inside at the stink of hypocrisy emanating from both himself and the Jesus freaks.
I say "almost," because such an unlikely alliance, should anyone take it seriously enough to vote behind it, could be the ruination of this country. - erranttv, on 06/10/2008, -3/+5But I don't recall a WAR or an OCCUPATION as a result. And you don't want to start listing all of the things this administration has done wrong do you? That's a losing battle for sure.
- motivatedmama, on 06/11/2008, -1/+1It's sad that I should be surprised and thrilled that there are well meaning, educated people out there such as yourself, who share this view. Sad because such reason and honesty should be commonplace rather than a rarity that elicits such a response. What has happened to common decency? That we have to hold Jesus up as the moral standard bearer, and that his example goes ignored is worry enough. What has rendered so many incapable of simple empathy for the plight of their fellow man? It should not require a Jesus, Gandhi, Mother Theresa etc. to instill the soul of kindness in a person. Basic decency has not only escaped us but the very source of this moral code has been twisted and warped. Now Christian America Kills in the Name of God and calls it justice.
- dennisrhidalgo, on 06/11/2008, -2/+2I like your perspective. I wrote a short piece on it during the last presidential election:

That true Christians can vote Republican is totally inconceivable to me. It seems a perfect contradiction with Jesus' teachings
