"UPDATE: It appears that Ziemer’s speech may have been plagiarized from McCain. According to the McCain campaign, the senator used these lines before Ziemer — in 1995. We regret the error.
UPDATE: As a blog that strives to maintain credibility and transparency, we would like to explain our mistake. When we were alerted to the tip that Adm. Ziemer gave a similar speech in 1996, we searched LexisNexis and McCain’s campaign site for whether the senator used the disputed phrases before that time. We did not find anything. After we published the post, the McCain campaign contacted us and pointed to a speech given by the senator in 1995, which appears on McCain’s Senate site. As soon as we were alerted to the error, we rushed to publish a correction. Once again, we regret the error." - l0k0, on 03/28/2008, -2/+54False alarm people.
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 03/28/2008, -5/+47EPIC FAIL!
- Sogui, on 03/28/2008, -9/+46Typical Thinkprogress *****, at least they made a correction. Watch this still make the front page.

We regret the error. - Sogui, on 03/28/2008, -10/+41Do you know how many front page stories from Thinkprogress, DailyKos, HuffingtonPost, CrooksandLiars, etc... have made the front page only to be marked as blatantly inaccurate? Believe it or not but the mainstream does have SOME standards, I can't remember the last time I saw a cnn.com story get retracted... but these liberal blogs seems to do it on a weekly basis.
- Hefelumpman, on 03/28/2008, -1/+31buried - they've retracted the claim
- inactive, on 03/28/2008, -4/+28Maybe because it's wholly inaccurate?
- inactive, on 03/28/2008, -1/+22I'll go out on a limb here and say that if this was posted and then taken down on FOX, you'd probably be raising a hell about them running it in the first place.
- rodball, on 03/28/2008, -2/+21Wonder now more. Thinkprogress had it wrong.
- inactive, on 03/28/2008, -6/+25Hmm, why is it that I choose not to get my news from half-assed, blog-like websites like this one, firedoglake.com, or rawstory.com?
Oh yeah..... - inactive, on 03/28/2008, -4/+21

We regret the error. - Cyona, on 03/28/2008, -4/+20Reading all the comments on that story shows just how bias thinkprogress is. Their idea of a retraction is simply crossing out the word "plagiarizes."
Anyways buried for inaccuracy. Please keep thinkprogress off the front page... lets stick to cute pics of animals and web comics. - mmmmmbiscuits, on 03/28/2008, -1/+17Retracted: "UPDATE: It appears that Ziemer’s speech may have been plagiarized from McCain. Cry Dave, cry! You gullible douche... - inactive, on 03/28/2008, -2/+17Yea? When is that going to start?
You're giving a free pass and a strawman to a website that is so consistently wrong.
Funny how the world MUST stop when someone on the right does something that if someone on the left does is blown of as "Well, everybody does it."
Hypocrite. - inactive, on 03/28/2008, -2/+15How about that? You freaked out on queue, when it was all a lie?
What are the chances we will get a sincere apology from Dave, that doesn't include a diatribe? I am going with ZERO.
You are going to die young, holding all that hatred. Darwin wins.... - Pillage, on 03/28/2008, -2/+14I have to say (and I can't believe I am actually saying this.) Good for thinkprogress for owning up to their mistake.
- Cooperjones, on 03/28/2008, -4/+15Glad to hear McCain is an original. That's why I like him. He's got the balls to stare down the commies when he had two broken arms and a broken leg in captivity when he was a POW; we need balls right now, not that "down low" gay Obama.
- Pillage, on 03/28/2008, -4/+15Still gonna digg it, McCain gave a pretty good speech and it's worth seeing.
- inactive, on 03/28/2008, -4/+14So...to those great bastions of journalism at thinkprogress, all that is required to verify a hit piece is a quick googling and then post it?
- inactive, on 03/28/2008, -2/+12I will give a dollar if rgodfrey comes back and apologizes. Not a "but let me tell you" apology. Just a straight "wow was I wrong" apology...
- spankaccount, on 03/28/2008, -0/+10Hey diggbots, thinkprogress is a liberal propaganda site funded by George Soros.
- Pillage, on 03/28/2008, -3/+13hope Kieth sees the correction before it's put in the teleprompter.
- inactive, on 03/28/2008, -9/+18EPIC FAIL, man the democrats are imploding, the HUFFINGTONPOST jumped on this and are now licking their wounds.
Its all over for the Dems. - Sogui, on 03/28/2008, -1/+10I gotta say it's wonderful seeing the inaccurate tag and the submissions having a RETRACTION at the top of the page, yet it still doubled in Diggs within the hour and hit the front page.
Is Digg trying to be ironic today? Or maybe people are digging it for ulterior motives, oh well. - psion01, on 03/28/2008, -2/+11You know that "wa-wa-wa-waaaah" melody they used to play in the cartoons when Wyle E. Coyote got hit by his own traps to catch the Road Runner?
You should be hearing that right about now. - jedsmith, on 03/28/2008, -2/+11Buried, inaccurate. It says. Right. There.
- inactive, on 03/28/2008, -3/+12oh how i wish the real deal took longer to come out!
Come on! Give us some more angst! - mmmmmbiscuits, on 03/28/2008, -1/+10Awesome.
- inactive, on 03/28/2008, -2/+11HUFFINGTON posted biased and wrong information? SAY IT AINT SO!!
OMFG next thing you know they might stop posting lies concerning Clinton and start posting less pro Obama ads... HAHAHA (sorry wishful thinking.)
Its funny Im not a republican nor a liberal but the way liberals have been posting anything and everything (whether it be true or not -usually not) makes you wonder who is afraid of being wrong. What ever happened to actually stating facts (and verifying them) and being objective with ACTUAL comparison and perspective? - spankaccount, on 03/28/2008, -4/+12thinkprogress is a propaganda site funded by George Soros. Whats more, this story is false. Diggbots fooled again.
- inactive, on 03/28/2008, -1/+9he disappeared, on queue. Want to bet his plan is to avoid Digg, and this info, until he hopes everyone forgets?
- fluxion, on 03/28/2008, -0/+7im actually rather impressed that mccain's speeches are being plagiarized
- Pedestrian101, on 03/28/2008, -3/+10IT'S FALSE IDIOTS, nice try though.
- Shiftyeyedgoat, on 03/28/2008, -2/+9Just because it hasn't been explicitly posted from the website in the comments yet, here it is:
"UPDATE: It appears that Ziemer’s speech may have been plagiarized from McCain. According to the McCain campaign, the senator used these lines before Ziemer — in 1995. We regret the error."
Nothing to see here. Move along, folks. - inactive, on 03/28/2008, -1/+8Cant you read *****? its a bogus story.
- adminmatt, on 03/28/2008, -0/+7what else could they have done? left the story as is? they didn't really own up, they got called out and their story blew up in their faces.
- inactive, on 03/28/2008, -2/+8As anyone who's gone to the article knows, it's retracted.
- TheSabre, on 03/28/2008, -2/+7Just goes to show you how many people will believe anything they read the first time they read it without question. Of course, many of them are the same people that call other people "sheep" or "sheeple".
- inactive, on 03/28/2008, -4/+9No way. I completely expected Think Progress to be 100% trustworthy.
This is why blogs suck. - DanOnTheMoon, on 03/28/2008, -1/+6Which democrats, Hillary and Obama, or McCain?
- DanOnTheMoon, on 03/28/2008, -5/+10Oh yeah, and there is no 'new McCain', he's old as balls. Cryptkeeper in '08?
- someguyouknow, on 03/28/2008, -10/+15This was posted on Huffington Post in big red letters for a very short time. I wonder why they pulled it.
- mmmmmbiscuits, on 03/28/2008, -4/+9That's great! He can write more speeches, put them in a book, and I'll buy it on Amazon. But there's no way I'm voting for that huckster.
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 03/28/2008, -0/+5Left wing propaganda outlets like ThinkProgress and HuffPo have been going crazy trying to find something to divert attenion away from the Obama Hopes to Damn America travesty.
One of the Soros funded outlets went as far to make fun of McCain's teeth saying they look old. The only problem is that most of McCain's teeth are fake because they were knocked out when he was a POW.

Stay classy guys. - inactive, on 03/28/2008, -2/+6never happen...liberals are never wrong..they're just not always right.
- LastVisibleDog, on 03/28/2008, -1/+5CryRightardCry - guess you feel like a complete moron moonbat idiot right now - this is your brain on left wing extremist propaganda
Democrats are in complete free-fall - looks like McCain has already won this election - metaknite, on 03/28/2008, -1/+5Did you RTFA? That was an anti-war speech.
- adminmatt, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4wow another conspiracy theory.. color me suprised
- Pillage, on 03/28/2008, -2/+6I was under the impression that Kieth Olberman's teleprompter has a direct feed to Media Matters.
