- OrdinaryPanda, on 09/25/2008, -1/+32Would those "unhappy times" be because of those vacations and backroom dealings between his wife and Keating's company or because he got busted with his hand in the cookie jar? Was he unhappy because of the prospect of being put into *another* prison? I can't imagine that those realizations did much good for his mind once it sank in.

The fact is that Sen. McCain should have resigned in shame by breaking faith with the people and Senate ethics during the SNL debacle.
Greatest voice for reform? Reality by false assertions is not reality at all.
I dedicate the great President Abraham Lincoln's magnificent American proverb to the unethical liar McCain. It seems tailored made for him.
"You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you CANNOT fool all the people all the time."

well in that case, nothing to worry about - chrissku, on 09/25/2008, -1/+13The Keating Five Scandal told to you like you're a 5 yr old. This guy does a great job of breaking it down.

...because I got caught. Whoopsie. - Goldbricker, on 09/25/2008, -1/+10You understand that admonished is a bad thing right? Seems like Republicans are so used to scandal that anything that doesn't involve jail time is seen as no big deal.
- GreyICE, on 09/25/2008, -0/+9You mean the deal where Obama paid $100,000 for a slice of land that was estimated by surveyors to be worth... $100,000?
- Reynardine, on 09/25/2008, -1/+8The Keating Five is a huge indictment of McCain, but it makes a poor attack to drag up incidents from decades ago unless it's just before the election. There's plenty to damn McCain in the present.
- seltaeb4, on 09/25/2008, -0/+7So was his time as a POW, but he can't shut up about that.
- wait2expatri8, on 09/25/2008, -0/+6Do any of the McCain supporters here have anything good to say about McCain? I see plenty of mud-slinging from both sides, and I've seen Pro-Obama posts relating to the specifics of his campaign, but it seems all the McCain fans can do is say why they don't like Obama. Could we please see some reasons why you're voting *for* McCain and not *against* Obama? Is there even one of you that can post a positive reply about your candidate without referencing Obama? What policies of his do like? I'm really not trying to be sarcastic, I've just been perusing the political posts here for a while and the only input I've seen on McCain from his followers are based on slights against Obama. Any thoughtful responses would be much appreciated.
- michaelfitz, on 09/25/2008, -1/+7Well, I would assume that a potentially career-ending scandal would be a rather rough patch in your life.
Just saying... - pinchduck, on 09/25/2008, -0/+5Yup, he was cleared. But he was a little too close to his dirty buddies for me. And he sure loved his bottomless House banking account. McCain doesn't mind associating with the near occasion of corruption, which means he would make a horrible President. Ulysses S. Grant was not corrupt. His entire cabinet was. This is what we're looking at with McCain.
- Ruqsaq, on 09/25/2008, -0/+5truth of the matter is 98% of American's vote for the guy wearing their jersey. They only look for the "D" or the "R" and then try desperately to justify why their guy is better than the other. I'm personally not fond of either Obama or McCain, but I wouldn't fault a McCain supporter of voting the "less of two evils". If a McCain supporter didn't like McCain's stance on anything but felt it was better than Obama's stance then I wouldn't necessarily fault them for the "less of two evils" approach.
By the same token I would venture to guess that 98% of Obama supporters are Obama supporters not because of any particular policy or vision for the country, but simply because he has a "D" behind his name. the other 2% like him because he's very well spoken and a likable guy... which may be worse than voting for someone just because of their party affiliation. - linwnil, on 09/25/2008, -0/+5great video.
- mikesoba, on 09/25/2008, -2/+6A very unhappy period in his life? He is still a multi-millionaire. What about those whose lives were actually affected by these events - how unhappy do you imagine they must have been. McCain, this isn't all about you!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJ2eayWR3dU&feature ... - DriftwoodYYZ, on 09/25/2008, -1/+4wait2expatri8 was trying to make a point that many McCain supporters will often just attack Obama rather than go into details about why McCain would be a better candidate. You just proved it.
"Primarily McCain has the experience and leadership that Obama doesn't have." was the only reasoning you gave. The remaining 90% of your post is attacking Obama...
I'm neither Democrat nor Republican, heck I'm Canadian and I'll be voting Conservative (our version of the Republican party) in our own election. Left wing, right wing, the rest of the world knows that McCain will be bad news if elected. - mikesoba, on 09/25/2008, -2/+5There is no legislation that forced lending institutions to make dopey decisions. And McCain's handler received nearly $500,000.00 from the same interests - but you seem to have overlooked that inconvenient fact.
- inactive, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3Perhaps the Democratic party could do the same considering it was THEIR policies and regulatory refusal that caused it.
- BossKey, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2Anyone who thinks that being a liberal is bad should have been against the liberation of Iraq.
- inactive, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2Driftwood and Wait,
A civil discussion is rare on here, nice to be able to do so. I think, in a lot of respects, government as a whole should be somewhat representative of all the people. It's pretty obvious that not everyone has gone to Harvard or Yale, or even college for that matter. Yes we should hold our leaders up to a higher standard, but that higher standard doesn't necessarily mean an exclusive one. Driftwood, you ask what does Sarah Palin bring to the table and question her education. Good questions, to which I answer:
I think Sarah comes across as being more representative of the country as a whole. She appears to be down to Earth and is religious, she's a working mother who tries to put her family first but doesn't let it interfere with her job. She's dealing with a teenage pregnancy and she's dealing with a son being shipped off to Iraq. Basically she comes off as being something of a commoner although she moves about in higher circles. As for her education, I can't attest to that because I didn't graduate from college, but I would take experience over education most of the time. Education level is not necessarily an indication of leadership, but that's just my opinion. She's been a mayor, she's currently the governor. It's obvious she's doing something right because of her high approval ratings. Alaska can't be an easy state to manage. With so many rural areas and being so close to, an increasingly and potentially hostile, superpower I imagine presents a lot of unique challenges. Yet, her numbers say the Alaskan populace likes her.
Does that give her enough experience to be President? I don't know. What exactly prepares you to lead the most powerful nation on Earth? What prepares you to make decisions about things most people never think of? What prepares you to learn about things that most of the world neither knows or suspects? If you're going to base an answer on experience, I'd give that to Sarah because of the time she's spent in local and state / federal governing. Education, then I guess you could give that to Obama or Biden. Both sides say they're going to deliver change, but I've seen more evidence of McCain going against the Republicans and Sarah Palin isn't a Washington insider. Some might say that is a problem. But if you want to bring change, wouldn't you need an outsider?
Anyway, that's my two cents. - wait2expatri8, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2Do any of the McCain supporters here have anything good to say about McCain? - inactive, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2Driftwood, I think you missed my second post. But also, in my defense, I'm not "attacking" Obama. I am simply stating facts that are freely available in all media formats that Obama supporters refuse to accept or address.
- mikesoba, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2Idiot and moron - you're real class. Exactly the kind of class we expect from neo-cons. And what you say is outright wrong. Figure out the facts instead of making it up.

Former Fannie Mae chairman works for Obama's campaign. Obama gets north of $100K from Fannie and Freddie. Nah. Nothing to see here. - inactive, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2"but it seems all the McCain fans can do is say why they don't like Obama. Primarily McCain has the experience and leadership that Obama doesn't have. All the "negatives" you don't want to hear are based in fact. Obama has associations (and continues to do so) with a self admitted and unrepentant terrorist, a black racist, and a shady real estate developer. He was number two in taking lobbying money from Fannie and Freddie. He has no respect for the basic beliefs that founded this country as is shown by his disdain for those who cling to their bibles and guns. It's also a question of experience. I'm sorry but 143 days in Washington and he thinks he's ready to be president? His biggest experience bullet point was as a "community organizer"? I'm sorry, but the world IS a dangerous place as shown by Russia's and Iran's actions. I don't want someone in command of the military who want "talking" to be his primary weapon.
I'm voting for McCain because he's everything Obama isn't. - inactive, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2I don't agree with McCain all the time, but I'll take 60% agreement versus 100% disagreement.
- inactive, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2Not at all, read the end. McCain is everything Obama isn't. He's experienced, he's got a proven track record (that I don't always agree with), he's got military experience, he's got bipartisan experience, he's got geopolitical experience, he puts his country first, he's fiscally more conservative than Obama will ever be, he was willing to take a chance with Sarah Palin as opposed to playing it safe with Joe Biden.
- deepthot42, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2You don't get a free pass just for being a POW.
You get my respect, and my gratitude.... but you are still subject to the same laws and scrutiny as everyone else in this country.
(There I said it) - iletumi, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.
- inactive, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2It's fine to not support McCain, all I'm saying is that these kids need to look up their facts before jumping on the band wagon. He was exonerated.
- xxl3w, on 09/25/2008, -1/+3so basically saying something good about mccain is impossible?
- wait2expatri8, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2Ricemanstm: While your first reply was more of exactly what I was trying to get away from, I really appreciate your second one. I do find it a teensy bit funny that even in this you still dropped the O-bomb twice, you at least weren't using it to hurl insults. Anything you'd like to add about your endorsement of Palin? For the record, I'm an avid Obama supporter, but I refuse to dismiss my fellow citizens opinions without even knowing what they are.
- MadKennyP, on 09/25/2008, -1/+2Palin on her associations with anti-Americans the man who said, "The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government...and I won't be buried under their damn flag." --Joe Vogler, Founder of the Alaskan Independence Party (AIP).
*crickets* - macfanboi, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1He's the GOD DAMN Champion of Reform!
- anagai, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1This shows great lack of good judgement on mccains part. This is an example of what the presidency will be like under McCain. Like Bush he will have to make judgement calls and like Bush will most likely make mistakes. Do we want someone who admits not understanding economic issues and seems to lack any real leadership skills to be president. For some reason he seems always a step behind Obama in everything that is transpiring and just broadcasts negative ads against him. He is a slow old man that is not in touch with majority of americans and largely in control of his advising staff.
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1No problem, it's been insightful. :-)

- aben9woaha, on 09/25/2008, -2/+3This should be front and center.
- AKWookiee, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1That's terrible. Everyone knows that political discourse should only be suppressed by arranging for your supporters to call in and disrupt the broadcast.
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/kerry-picket/2008/08/ ... - sagien, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1I am an Obama supporter and I dugg you up at first. Then upon a moment's reflection, I took my digg back. Here's why:
While this is relevant to the election, it should not be front and center because it's just another smear. There's plenty of those going around. What we need are our candidates debating and talking about the current issues so the American people can have a good look at who they're putting into office.
The fact that McCain is trying to get out of the debate with Obama on Friday is what's front and center and it very well should be. The very act alone shows that Senator John McCain is an honorless coward.
One would think that 5.5 years being a POW would teach one something about courage and honor. A courageous and honorable candidate for this nation's highest office would be out there on the campaign trail AND lending a hand in fixing the current economic crisis.
I'm sorry, I rambled. That is all.
