- hawkeye17, on 09/24/2008, -0/+3If there was ever a time we should hear a debate from the 2 Presidential candidates its this week. How they deal with this crisis is a test and John McCain just failed miserably. If he doesn't show up Friday, in 45 days people will look back at this and say that this is when McCain lost the election.
- somberlaine, on 09/24/2008, -1/+4He is postponing 'cause the political climate for republicans in general and McCain in particular is very bad. He has been a supporter of deregulation which led to this mess. His campaign manager has been getting paid 15k a month from Fannie Mae until last month just before the Feds took over. McCain wants to debate in a more favorable environment. simple politics.
- superzulu, on 09/24/2008, -2/+4Strictly a political move. They're betting on the fact that if Obama doesn't follow his lead, then he looks like an unpatriotic ass. If Obama does follow his lead, McCain will have a ton of ammo when it comes to leadership during a crisis (since it was his idea that Obama followed). I gotta say, between this and Palin, he's got some very smart strategists keeping him in this election.
- nycjap, on 09/24/2008, -0/+2It's a good thing there's no such thing as a shot clock or a delay of game penalty for Presidential campaigns because from the conventions on, the Republicans have been trying to essentially run out the clock with a lot of hoohah and distractions.
Of course, his opening line Friday night will be:
"My opponent refused to delay this debate and put our country first...", or something to that effect.
Hopefully, Jim Lehrer will throw the flag at that point and penalize McCain the 10 yards (or is it half the distance to the goal, this close to Election Day?). - azAZ09, on 09/24/2008, -0/+2Unbelievable, I guess debate preparations and a crash course in economics must be cutting into Pander Bear's nap time.
Seriously, WTF? haven't they already saved a chunk of time by blocking out the media.
How can anyone continue to support this weasel. Because of the way he makes decisions, if the country elects him, his entire term will be spent backpedaling, responding, and playing catch-up. What will happen when he has real responsibilities?
NOT PRESIDENTIAL - CVL4317, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2Chicken ***** is offended to be equalized with McCain
- oldgal, on 09/24/2008, -0/+2From the original AP story: "The Obama campaign said in a statement that Obama had called McCain around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to propose that they issue a joint statement in support of a package to help fix the economy as soon as possible. McCain called back six hours later and agreed to the idea of the statement, the Obama campaign said. McCain's statement was issued to the media a few minutes later."

As my Kansas grandmother taught us, "you ultimately get more credit by giving it than taking it".
Doesn't this remind you of the worthless office mate who is rarely there to do the work but always there to take the credit? - maxcat07, on 09/24/2008, -0/+2"Quick! Look over here!! No, look over there!!!!" When is McCain going to stop the smoke and mirrors act? If he can't win on substance, he's eventually going to sink...
- Hillsfar, on 09/24/2008, -0/+2"Brave Sir McCain ran away!"
Presidents have been in the middle of wars with hundreds of thousands dead - and they've attended debates.
Debates let us know how candidates think and how well they can think and speak under pressure. If they can't handle more than one thing at a time, that's a problem!
"It's my belief that this is exactly the time when the American people need to hear from the person who in approximately 40 days will be responsible for dealing with this mess. It's going to be part of the president's job to deal with more than one thing at once." - Obama
Things are happening too fast for John McCain. It took him a while to get him to go from "The economy is fundamentally strong" but when he realized it, he changed on the SAME day to "The economy is at risk" on a day in mid-September.
What the Republicans are essentially saying is, "Can we slow things down for John McCain to be able to catch up? And delaying her debate will give Sarah Palin more time to study up, too."
John McCain, you need to learn how to walk and chew gum at the same time. - overtoke, on 09/24/2008, -0/+2McCain is chicken *****.
- bjornski, on 09/24/2008, -0/+1Ahead? At what?
It's a great excuse to duck the cameras and look busy for a while, though...
And recently, he's been looking to duck the cameras quite a bit. - 5celery, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1you do know he's behind, right?
- overtoke, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1+1 lol
- InGenUse, on 09/24/2008, -1/+1Nice, excusing a petty debate to help with the economic crisis. And then, during the debate, McCain will be all, 'I did a lot to help, what did you do Obama? etc. etc.'
But the question is, what will he say when the $700bill bailout back-fires and ruins the U.S economy? Oh sorry, it's obvious, 'Why didn't you stop this from happening Obama, I was against it the whole time.' - gospe1337, on 09/24/2008, -7/+1Excuse to quit while you're ahead? I hope so.
