- eclecticbrotha, on 07/30/2008, -6/+38Its getting downright sickening watching the media give this guy a free pass on all his lies.
- algaeturd, on 07/30/2008, -7/+31This man is CRAZY. He also said today that he wouldn't raise taxes but he's also claimed he'll save Social Security and said he wouldn't rule a tax raise out in order to do that.
THIS MAN IS CONFUSED. And obviously, doesn't mind lying in front of the entire world.
Why? BECAUSE THE ***** MEDIA NEVER CALLS THE GUY OUT FOR HIS FLUBS AND MISSTEPS. They happen every single day, media. Open your damn eyes. - algaeturd, on 07/30/2008, -1/+22That's the most retarded idea ever. That's exactly why the media let's this guy cakewalk through his campaign blunders and constant missteps and misfirings.
"oh, he's old. And he's a politician. AND a war hero. It's to be expected that he doesn't know the difference between Shiites and Sunnis."
***** THAT MENTALITY.
We should expect our politicians to lie? Then why even go through the motions of elections? It's time to expect more out of congress and expect more out of presidents. And if you think it's 'oh, it's cool..politicians lie, they always have' then just give up now because this country is ***** factor five and there's no stopping it.
It's time to do what some of these smaller media outlets are doing and CALL THEM THE ***** OUT.
Same goes for Obama. It was done with his FISA flip flop but MSM has GRILLED obama while they barely touch ol' rotten cotton jowls mcCain. He has given a free pass for every public blunder in much the same way that MSM never criticized BUSH for his blunders until after the fact. When they saw public opinion swaying with the war being lost, they started to make fun of his slip ups but NOT until they felt like they were safely out of the way of losing ad revenue by doing so.
This is ***** that America is home to the 'oh, politicians lie' citizen. Weak excuses for the part of this nation that you're supposed to play.
Good Day.
I said GOOD DAY. - Dndlion, on 07/30/2008, -3/+19I've been hoping lo these many years to see the lies of the bastards exposed, in real time, not seven years and an eternity too late. As dear ol' dad used to say, live in hope, die in despair. With a few exceptions, there's not much interest in the truth out there.
- aussiejan, on 07/30/2008, -3/+15You're right, of course. I personally stopped watching network news years ago. I find out all I need to know VIA the Internet and some newspapers I respect. However, many people rely on network news to find out what's going on in the world, particularly the over-60s. If they are receiving a lot of misinformation by the MSM, it is going to influence how they vote. If McCain gets away with his obvious inadequacies regarding his knowledge (Iraq/Pakistan border) and out and out lies (Obama blew off the troops to play basketball in Berlin), it will have an impact at the election.
- algaeturd, on 07/30/2008, -2/+14You're right but you're horribly wrong at the same time. WE are enjoying an alternative media. But 'The people' are mass consuming mass media because they still think they can trust it. They grew up in eras where the news was about ethics, morals and truth. Then big business came in, bought it all up (the way they buy everything else) monopolized it to a certain degree and began to use it as informercials for their own agendas. And with corporations, it's no secret that that agenda is of the republican slant IN MOST CASES.
Rupert Murdoch himself said in front of a national audience that he thinks it's OK to slant public opinion (re: the Iraq war and Bush) IN FAVOR of this administration by using his news media outlets, which are vast and far reaching.
The average American voted for BUSH. They are simple folks for the most part and I believe that 100%. I believe many of them don't THINK they're being ignorant by watching FOX or CNN or CBS but the fact is that they ARE. They're having opinions injected into their brains directly in the form of news. It's NOT truth as its presented. It's SLANT and it goes in the direction of what best suits the corporations that own the media outlets.
It's that simple. You're preaching to the choir by telling US to go seek out new media outlets; the truth remains that the average american controls this country and the average american tunes in to the fastest, easiest media and they get lies and half-truths and corporations who help beat the drum for war because it's in THEIR best interest. WAR raises ratings, raised ratings sell more ads.
It's a money game and nothing else. Everything is about money. Everything corporate, at least. - Zarokima, on 07/30/2008, -2/+12I think the reason they give him a free pass is because if they were to actually report on all this stuff the race would already be over and Obama would be just sitting by waiting for the election so his presidency will be official. They need ratings, and with an election coming up the way to do that is to make sure it's a close race so people will need to stay tuned for more information before they decide. McCain makes it all too easy to say "Okay, Grandpa's had his time, but he needs to step out of politics now" and that's why they give him so many free passes. I'm just hoping MSM doesn't ***** this up so badly McCain actually ends up president; Obama's not all that, but he's not senile, either.

If he was lying, that would mean he actually knows the truth of the situation, and I've seen no evidence that McCain knows his own ass from a hole in the ground. Seriously, the guy is a ***** dumbass. - MrFurious2k, on 07/30/2008, -2/+7Huffspam. Buried.

- grgt1994, on 07/30/2008, -1/+5Well said. Why the hell would anyone digg this comment down. He is absolutely correct.
- thebaron2, on 07/30/2008, -1/+5SOME places would be ready to go within months, but not most.
We have rigs off of California that are already built and waiting - we just can't use them because of the moratorium on off-shore drilling.
http://www.investors.com/editorial/IBDArticles.asp ... - jekylltech, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4When it comes to lies, why do we think 'WE' know the truth. In June the military DID discover WMD's in Iraq and most media outlets never mentioned it (my friend in the core told me when he got back). The government lied about its involvement in the Vietnam war and falsified the reasons for our involvement. The stats behind global warming are 'estimates' taken at 'the extreme ranges' and called good science because it sells DVDs, T-shirts and TV ads. Finally if you happen to be shocked that somebody would like to you for personal gain...
- inactive, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4Obama is definitely more qualified to be President than George W. Bush was, and is definitely more qualified to be President than McCain. How so? Well, on the former point, one only has to look at Bush's history to have that question answered. If Bush was qualified for the job, then Obama certainly is. On the latter, one only has to look at McCain's lack of grasp of economics & foreign policy, & his continued blunders, plus his rather shady history in the Keating 5.
Obama has served 11 years in elected office, including 8 years in the Illinois Senate and 3 years in the U.S. Senate. He is the only candidate to begin a presidential bid with experience at both the state and federal levels. He brings more elected experience to his presidential campaign than Ronald Reagan (8 years as California governor), Perot (zilch), George W. Bush (6 years Texas governor), Hillary Clinton (7 years as senator), John Edwards (6 years as U.S. senator), Giuliani (8 years as NYC mayor), Mitt Romney (4 years governor). Obama has much more foreign policy experience than either Bill Clinton or Ronald Reagan had when they were elected.
But if the best candidates are those with the most experience, then you surely believe that Strom Thurmond should have become president.
Remember: The three presidents who historians consider the greatest of all time (Lincoln, Washington, and FD Roosevelt) all had much less legislative experience Obama. Abraham Lincoln served but a single term in the United States House of Representatives and less time in the Illinois Senate. Even Eisenhower had virtually no political experience.
Experience? 30 years in the senate will not necessarily mean you will make good decisions on foreign policy, or will choose smart, pragmatic advisors/cabinet members. There are few people with more experience in public life over the past 40 years than Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld - and George W. Bush was around politics his entire life. Have they done a decent job? Do you trust 'em? If so, you're a chump. - grgt1994, on 07/30/2008, -1/+5The big question I see the media missing in this whole arena regards the Democrat myth that opening up more domestic drilling will not immediately reduce the spot price for oil. This is basic economics.
The current price for oil represents the balance of many factors. One of those factors is future supply. If we increase or accelerate the rate of increase in future supply, and that change is digested by the market, price will fall instantly.
In fact, the Democrat party's announcement of their position (and the echoing of it by Obama), no new domestic drilling or refining, has surely CAUSED some of the current high oil and gas pricing.
But the media fails to put Obama on the spot for this. - tomasII, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4Thanks you! And why is the media not questioning his rhetoric.
Answer: because they desparately want him to be elected. - facelesscoward, on 07/30/2008, -2/+6The American media doesn't have a particular party bias. They're covering for McCain on all of his screw-ups for two reasons: 1. they want this election to be as close as possible because it's good for ratings, and 2. they're incompetent.
- Ryan166, on 07/30/2008, -3/+7How about at least few facts of why it is not possible to do within months, given the platforms are already in place?? Not just some guys opinion "naahh, offshore drilling isnt worth it."
- inactive, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3Not only are you more proof of Bush's education cuts, you are more proof the Bush followers don't give a sh*t about America.

There are oil platforms in shallow water off the California coast that are ALREADY PREPARED to drill - the only thing stopping them is the moratorium. It's estimated that there are 10 billion barrels there and that it would brought to market within 1 year if the moratorium were lifted.
http://www.investors.com/editorial/IBDArticles.asp ...
"California's 10 billion barrels in offshore oil could be brought to market in as little as a year "if the moratorium were lifted," according to a recent Sanford C. Bernstein report said, citing that the oil is under shallow water and drilling platforms already exist."
Even disregarding that, the reason that new sites would take so long to develop is because of all of the red tape and crap that CONGRESS makes these guys go through. If congress were serious about getting new oil to market quickly, they could revise legislation and that 10 year window would shrink massively.
Even disregarding THAT, consider that everyone fought about this almost 20 years ago and the same environmental battle-cry was used back then - "Why start drilling now? It'll take 7-10 years to get the stuff to market!" And look where we are. If we started back then we'd have our own oil flowing now.
Does anyone think that alternative energy is going to be developed overnight? Of course not, it'll probably take longer than getting new oil to market would. So should we just give up because we can't wait that long? There is NO overnight solution to this, people. We need to wean ourselves off of oil and transition into alternative energy. But as long as we're going to have to use oil in the near-term future we might as well be using ours. - twiztidsinz, on 07/30/2008, -3/+6You will..
Negative facts/quotes against republicans are either lies or mudslinging or a Democrat Smear campaign slash Swift-boating..
However, Republican lies are actually the truth, and they'll remind you of that every chance they get. - neofreakiii, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3The title kinda tells me that the media is already bored of such news
- pinchduck, on 07/30/2008, -4/+7It is very possible that McCain is lying, about a great many things. I will give him credit for one thing, however: He occasionally gives you solid points that you can look at, debate, decide if he is right, wrong, lying, or telling the truth. Obama is great at the whole "soaring rhetoric" part of being a politician, but he gives very few specifics. We're all for change, and for a brighter future for the world. Hurrah. How, exactly, does he plan on accomplishing that? Or, said another way, why should I vote for him? Is this a real vote for someone I can get behind, or his he counting on winning by getting the "sucks less" block of voters away from McCain?
- chrisduser, on 07/30/2008, -1/+4Certainly not all media...

- ramiro, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2Ahaha! Excellent!
- mxracer02, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2I believe that we have to handle this 'oil crisis' in a multi-pronged attack. We need to immediately decrease our dependency to foreign oil.
1) Initially, we will have to boost production, whether that means drilling more wells or increasing refining capacity. Using oil from this country, we can use our own money to help pay down our national debt, instead of giving the money to foreign countries.
2) We need massive investment in alternative energies. Currently bio-fuels (i.e. ethnol) is a joke. It takes more energy to produce that it provides. Solar, wind, wave, etc. are all good ideas that need to be heavily financed.
3) We need to invest in nuclear energy. Building nuclear plants will reduce our carbon footprint drastically. Yes, there are some disadvantages to this but the advantages clearly outweigh the disadvantages.
The main problem is that no matter what the idea to rid ourselves of oil, someone is always going to complain....from windmills killing birds, to nuclear plants producing radioactive materials. All I see on the majority of posts on Digg are people complaining about the policies people are suggesting.
The truth is that there is no 'easy' way to fix this issue. There is no 'instant' fix to this issue. We need to provide an immediate solution and invest in the future to provide a better solution in the years to come. - Clerg, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2To DLA:
Since you seem to be the only person who knows what the truth is, why don't you wipe the foam off your mouth and give us a CLUE! - BobSconce, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2You forgot one other thing.... It is possible to use existing rigs to drill diagonally into adjacent oil fields. In some instances, the rigs do not currently do this because they do not have leases to the adjacent fields. Once the leases open up, drilling diagonally into those fields can happen quickly.
The other thing to consider is that there are already rigs under development that are getting ready to be floated out to a site. If a new lease were opened up, they could be floated out to a different site that would yield more oil. Of course, there would need to be additional site prep, but redirecting work-in-progress can produce medium-term results.
McCain was not asserting that there would be huge amounts of oil in the short-term. He was asserting that there would be some. And he was correct. - DLA1, on 07/30/2008, -6/+8For all you people who think McCain is lunatic . . .
He's nothing compared to the say anything to look good Obama. That man has NO experience, hasn't even been a senator full term, promised he would not run for president this time around, and claims to be a citizen of the world! He will destroy America! Just look at his senatorial district, the havoc he has done with the public housing and the condemned buildings in his district, rezko, wright, etc. All while he lives in a million dollar home?
You people who are Kool Aid drinkers for Obama have NO CLUE what TRUTH is. NO CLUE. You wouldn't know truth even if it hit you between the eyes. - inactive, on 07/30/2008, -9/+11obama never lies. his ideas are only good. all hail obama, our new god
- zacharytelschow, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2A proper rebuttal is in order.
First, the author questions the ability of oil companies to deliver oil within a few months time, a claim which McCain makes. Could they deliver oil within 3 months, 6 months, 12 months? The fact is, no one knows except the oil companies themselves. I'd bet the oil companies have a better idea of what is necessary to extract oil than someone running their mouth at the huffingtonpost.
The author also cites three reasons McCain has for lying. Let's examine those.
1) The psychological impact of drilling here at now would drop prices. This is absolutely true. The reason prices are so high now is a belief that there will be increased or steady demand with restricted supply in the future. If we can alter one of those conditions, we can see changes now (there's a reason its called a futures market).
2) If anyone honestly believes that increased supply will have no effect whatsoever on price they are an idiot and it is a waste of breath to speak with them on this topic.
3) Why would a member of the party who holds the White House bring attention to the economy being bad? A bad economy has traditionally hurt the president's party in the ensuing election. In addition, offshore drilling isn't just "framed" as a stimulus proprosal. It will create jobs here and now for Americans in addition to increasing the oil supply, which will drop gas prices and free up money for other activities. This is something "green" energy can only dream about, as it is significantly more expensive.
Lastly, the section which begins "... the constraints on offshore drilling " has no citation or author mentioned. For all I know, the author is quoting himself here (or some other idiot who writes for huffingtonpost). As such, this section is worthless. - plr4ever, on 07/30/2008, -6/+8Just block the damn site then and stop complaining. We all get it, you're a proud conservative. Now leave.
