- toetagger, on 09/29/2008, -20/+311We already have thousands of clinics. When we discuss health care - we are talking about serious treatment, not if you have a cold or a cut on your finger. If your kid gets Leukemia. If you get cancer, etc. While I'm at it - those long wait averages you hear about in Canada? They include ELECTIVE surgery - surgery that you don't need (cosmetic, for instance) or surgery that can wait. If you exclude those from the calculations the waits are much shorter. If your head goes through a wind shield you don't wait 6 months. Besides, how long is the wait time if you have NO insurance? FOREVER. Thousands of people die in the USA every year because of NO coverage or being denied by their insurance company. No insurance kills and maims more people than terrorists.
- JenniferInMO, on 09/29/2008, -12/+188McCain's entire plan is to take away the tax break for employer sponsored group health plans and throw us to the wolves of independent coverage where they can drop you if you get sick, fat or older, refuse to insure you at all, raise your rates or not cover you for preexisting conditions. If you are a 25 y/o male say yippeee. Just don't get married and have to insure a wife of child bearing years or have kids, get sick or older.
I am glad McCain is thinking of an alternate plan so we can go to Wal-Mart, but the rate of cervical cancer will go up because like most women I will never walk into a Walmart and stick my legs up in the stirrups for some discount doctor while my husband looks around for a lawn mower. - ThomasMifflin, on 09/29/2008, -2/+170WTF is McCain talking about? He's had government health care his whole life. He grew up as the son of an Admiral. He basically left the Navy to become a Congressman. So he spent, what, 9 months in his life with out government health care? What an asshat!!
- auntazalea, on 09/29/2008, -17/+133OMG! Walmart- are you kidding?! That is his plan? What a jerk.
- fishbeef33, on 09/29/2008, -8/+119Let's seeee....what did I need to get at Wal-Mart today? Milk, check. XBox game, check. Motor oil, check. Well, I guess the last thing on my list is that pesky colonoscopy. Wow, Wal-Mart has everything!
- chosenson, on 09/29/2008, -9/+98Did somebody take this guy off his medication?
Here's the transcript:
" . . . cost of health care in American today in the emergency room.
Emergency room health care is the most expensive. We should have a WalMart or another large place that has a walk-in clinic that has a physician and a pharmacist right there. And you're sick and don't feel well you oughta be able to go to that clinic and the doctor prescribes and the pharmacist provides. And then you can leave and not have to stand in line for hours in the emergency room"
End transcript.
John is moving the long line from the emergency room to WalMart. WalMart!! John, have you seen the lines at WalMart?
But that's not the PROBLEM. John, do you understand the concept of a STERILE emergency room? Or do you think everyone who goes to the emergency room just has a sniffle? "Emergency rooms" carry the word "emergency" in the title for an excellent reason. HINT, John: think "gun shot wounds" and "heart attacks" and "child birth" and "surgery" for starters. At WALMART JOHN!!?? Do you think Ted Kennedy would have been better off going to a Walmart, John?
THIS IS McCAIN's solution to the health care crisis!?! Who is this guy? Is he functioning? Republicans, behold your leader . . . . - noupsell, on 09/29/2008, -4/+88I doubt he would pass the Walmart Hire Psychological aptitude test... Q#29: True or False -- Do you consider yourself a team member or a maverick?
- kmom5, on 09/29/2008, -13/+92OMG. I'm speechless.
If McCain thinks this is such a great idea, why, let's see him do it.
He really has no clue, does he? - apothekari, on 09/29/2008, -2/+76@USArugula: ZING!
Let the 3 time cancer survivor try to get ***** insurance WITHOUT the government backing his useless wrinkled ass.
IT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN.
If you are ANYTHING other than the Pinnacle of Health the insurance companies won't touch you with a 10 foot pole, or they'll take your money for years and then when you turn in a claim they REFUSE to pay.
***** Wal Mart....What an *****!! - Arishia, on 09/29/2008, -5/+76This line really got to me--The doctor prescribes and the pharmacist provides
Geesh, he isn't offering healthcare, he's offering a deal with the drug companies. Most doctor visits don't end up with a prescription at all. This is scary. To conflate healthcare and big box stores really scares me. Is this he is idea? To shift healthcare to big box outlets? - GregFD3S, on 09/29/2008, -2/+65"Welcome to WalMart, go ***** yourself."
"Welcome to WalMart, go ***** yourself."
"Welcome to WalMart, go ***** yourself." - jimchap, on 09/29/2008, -8/+56Walmart, the company that needed a lawsuit to pay up on a health care case they disputed the cost of. Just what I want - Discount Doctors and a Discount President.
- bruce86, on 09/29/2008, -1/+46Technically the Vietnamese provided their government health care to him too.
- flipmoe, on 09/29/2008, -8/+50What a grim picture he's painting there. Our hope and our future is Walmart.
The man is completely out of touch. - honeybrass, on 09/29/2008, -9/+50"Hello everybody! I'm Dr. Nick!"
"These gloves came free with my toilet brush."
"Heart bypass only $299.95."
Thats the last straw, I leaving this country now. If he wins Canadas going to get a massive population spike, eh? - ericrous, on 09/29/2008, -1/+39Ironic position for a man who has had government-provided health care for almost his entire life.
- rald84, on 09/29/2008, -5/+39fail. he spent 5 1/2 years without gov't health care.
edit: oh god, he's going to use that when he debates obama on health care, isn't he? - SlyNIN, on 09/29/2008, -6/+38HA! Wal-mart. Are you kidding me? Wal-mart?
Now, Target. Yeah, Target. I'd go to Target. - verevi, on 09/29/2008, -4/+34"With any luck..."
If all of you people on here would volunteer at barackobama.com, maybe Senator Obama would win. Fewer digg comments, more volunteer action! Get off your can and do something to help your candidate!! - suckanucka, on 09/29/2008, -3/+33I hope some health care providers chime in. But he is actually right here...And anyone who sees my comment history knows I despise McCain.
What he is attempting to say, but failing... is that so many generally healthy people (not the very young or elderly) go to emergency rooms for ***** conditions (mild flu like symptoms, etc.). They should be going to a local health clinic. He didn't say I SUPPORT WALMARTS NEW WALK IN CLINIC. He used it as an example...
You should be going to the small health clinics first. They generally have great, quick care that is affordable. Obviously things like chest pains, excessive bleeding, and something life threatening belongs in the emergency room. But stitches for minor cuts, even amputations!! can be handled in most trauma treating clinics. - chicoer2001, on 09/29/2008, -8/+36How about 700 billion for health care.
- oldgal, on 09/29/2008, -1/+27I am constantly frustrated by folks who paint the Canadian Health System (or any other) as all bad or all good. It is time we take a close look at one of them, identify the problems and find ways to solve or mitigate them. It is stupid to start from scratch.
My health insurer has their own hospitals. They must, however, take uninsured patients. When the waits became excessive and problematic they set up an off-hours clinic for non-emergency care and started charging a co-pay (unless admitted to the hospital) for emergency care. There are still occasional waits, but not if your condition is life threatening. - enantiodromia, on 09/29/2008, -1/+24rald84, the VC were a government
- xBreakdownx, on 09/29/2008, -6/+28You know its sad when were so used to this guy that its just expected and it doesn't shock us as much as it should. How much more out of touch can he get?
- barryiggins, on 09/29/2008, -7/+29sure... I'd enjoy watching some retarded walmart employee trying to defibrillate him with a pair of tennis shoes when this ***** gets a heart attack
- SkinnerBox, on 09/29/2008, -3/+24What makes him socialist?
And say what you want about socialism, it is a much warmer-hearted economic system than capitalism. Supposedly the knock on it is that it doesn't work, not that it is cold hearted. - Nubli, on 09/29/2008, -0/+20Right there with Cheney.
- chosenson, on 09/29/2008, -12/+32How is this guy going to fix health care if he does not understand the basic needs of regular Americans who cannot afford to fly a doctor over to the house.
How about the worker who got his hand mangled in a meat grinder? Have you ever been to an emergency room, John? Any coherent adult would have a problem making a suggestion like this.
This is why I want the "elitist", intelligent candidate leading my country. Remember "elite" means "a cut above the rest". McCain's "non-elite" intelligence will doom us all. - oldgal, on 09/29/2008, -1/+21Congress and the Executive Branch should be on the same health plan as the least among us - none.
- rald84, on 09/29/2008, -1/+21from wiki
"Although McCain was badly wounded, his captors refused to treat his injuries, instead beating and interrogating him to get information, and ***he was given medical care only when the North Vietnamese discovered that his father was a top admiral.***" - Lavarock, on 09/29/2008, -2/+20People go to the emergency room too much. Due to the organizational structure of the medical system, it's sometimes the only way to get certain certain treatments, especially if you are away from home. But it's terribly inefficient. I once waited nine hours in an emergency room waiting area to get antibiotics for an infected cut. The actual patient-doctor-nurse interaction lasted ten minutes.
- yellowfish04, on 09/29/2008, -2/+19***** lol
- Paulish, on 09/29/2008, -0/+16True...
Wait what? - falstaff, on 09/29/2008, -8/+24To be fair, there are some cheap clinics in Walmarts, and they apparently work really well for the quick/cheap doctor visits. He's not saying move all the ER stuff to Walmart. ERs across the country are packed with people who don't need to be there. Because the government has guaranteed hospitals their payments for whoever comes into the ER, that's where lots of folks go when they get a cold.
If you can move even part of that out of the ER, the lines get shorter, the doctors have more time to treat actual emergencies, and the whole system runs better. That's all he's saying. - inactive, on 09/29/2008, -7/+23*****, people, quit whining. Can't you just steal meds from your personal charity?
- sockpuppets, on 09/29/2008, -6/+21I'm no McCain fan but I think the guy is just having trouble articulating what isn't a bad idea- having some type of readily accessible clinic available for non life-threatening medical situations.
- tm13lke, on 09/29/2008, -1/+16Wait, no. Let's NOT see him do it. Let's elect Obama instead.
- diggspellcheck, on 09/29/2008, -0/+14The Target Corporation is a publicly held, U.S.-based firm which has been headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, since it began as the Dayton Dry Goods Company in 1902. Target is not now, nor has it ever been, foreign-owned. (A French-based financial institution, AXA, holds about 42 million shares of Target stock, but that holding constitutes less than 5% of Target Corporation's outstanding shares.)
- GregFD3S, on 09/29/2008, -4/+18Your comment consists of nothing but failure.
- qi4all, on 09/29/2008, -5/+19Yea, I bet he takes his kids to Walmart for medical treatment too!
- badqat, on 09/29/2008, -1/+14Uh, when was the last time you went to an ER? I've seen them full of folks there to get basic care for illnesses that should have been done with a primary care/family doctor/nurse practitioner.
- inactive, on 09/29/2008, -6/+18Win.
- feliks2, on 09/29/2008, -2/+14Are you saying socialism is bad?
- cedarbaydave, on 09/29/2008, -9/+21It is sad watching this man make more and more of a fool of himself with every passing day. Is it greed for power, does he feel entitled or is he losing his faculties?
- zacharytelschow, on 09/29/2008, -2/+13McCain's point is evidently completely over the head of many on this thread, and his point is this: we need cheap doctor's offices that deal exclusively with common and minor ailments (and often specialize as well). If you have a common cold and want some antibiotics if they're appropriate for your case, is it really necessary to visit a doctor that charges $300 an hour? If you have a minor cut which you think might require stitches, do you really need to stop in the ER because your walk-in clinic is closed and pay $500 for a few stitches? If you need immunizations or booster shots, why should it cost $125? Can't some nurse just set up shop somewhere and offer booster shots at a discount?
- Tddupre, on 09/29/2008, -0/+11"Welcome To Wal-Mart, Get your ***** and get out."
-Walter - consonance, on 09/29/2008, -0/+11John McCain would've been fine if someone had just given him some cowbell.
- zantos420, on 09/29/2008, -0/+10http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxFc1RMbko4
- haiduz, on 09/29/2008, -1/+11I know the context that he is refering to. Its that poor poeple that dont have health insurance usualy go to the emergency room, because since they cant get turned down, its their only means of avaliable health care. The problem here is that something need to be done about that, and this is what I believe he is referring to.
With that being said, this has got to be one of the stupidest ***** things I have ever heard from someone aspiring to be in the white house. I mean this is worse than Sarah Pail stupid.
First of, why wallmart? Its a ***** store. I dont want to go to wallmart (and I love going wallmart) knowing there are sick poeple there to infect me. i dont want the same mop that washes a clinic where sick poeple are wash the floors where i buy my groceries. Second, if everyone can go to wallmart for affordable health care, then EVERYONE will go to wallmart for health care. It will be inefficient, OVERCROWDED and *****, wallmart wont make any money and then wont every agree to that ***** cause they are not in the business of putting doctors offices in their store. wallmart is in the business of using their magnificient market force to bend over the suppliers to force them to bring down the prices to the minimum for the benefit of the consumer. The last thing they want is for their store to be overcrowded sick poeple, let alone emergery surgencies being performed on car crash victims no so far away from isle 5. So not only is this a terrible Idea but it shows that he doesnt understand how things work. 1) stores are not in the business of health care - and it shows that mccain simply doesn't understand how business work 2) overcroweded discount clinics within a proximity of a pharmacy will do absolutely nothing to the problem of expensive and overcrowed EMERCENCY room care. not only is it a terribly proposition, its a rediculous solution to a the emergency roon problem - which shows that mccain knows nothing about how health care systems works. which begs the question, what does he know something about? maybe foriegn policy - but then again he said you can walk across neitherhoods in bagdad with no armour. The top general car drive around bagdad in an unarmed vehicle in Daily basis. Ugh this is disgusting. And the dow is down 777 point, what ***** is going on? -
