- Echota, on 01/05/2009, -70/+271Of course McCain will reinstate the draft!
He's a war monger and he's going to Make our young men and women Fight and Die in His wars!
Obama 08! - JekJob, on 08/20/2008, -13/+178I'd rather sit in jail than help McCain police the world so that he and his friends can make more money. I refuse to fight for him, and that's the most patriotic stance I can take.
True American Patriotism means not allowing the government to do whatever the hell it wants. I love my country, and hate its leaders. - teacherjim, on 08/20/2008, -25/+173We have a draft now. It is a class/economic draft, with a recession there will be plenty of cannon fodder for the conservatives to fight wars. Keep them stupid and afraid is the only way conservatives can stay in power.
- Dittoz, on 08/20/2008, -16/+129I think your title is a little off though. I don't think there was any hint to it.
Woman: If we don’t reenact the draft, I don’t think we’ll have anyone to chase Bin Laden to the gates of hell.
McCain: Ma’am, let me say that I don’t disagree with anything you said.
How is that hinting? He absolutely supports the draft. He just said so. Like this woman said, how are we going to be able to continue McCain's current wars plus the ones he wants to start (Iran for sure, possibly Russia?) without a draft? - xilduq, on 08/20/2008, -16/+116Less Jobs. More Wars. -- John McCain
- barbiesnow, on 08/20/2008, -25/+97George W. Bush's Mission Accomplished was the dumbing down of America...American Idol and all of the other crap, has made us morally, physically and economically bankrupt.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -10/+78You're for killing american soldiers but not abortions. I don't see the difference, mccain.
- jawaharb, on 08/20/2008, -11/+78Hope this is not true.
- dagnabbit, on 08/20/2008, -13/+69***** him, I won't fight for his oil wars.
- whatthefu, on 08/20/2008, -5/+60Use of the draft is absolutely un-American unless the United States is in immediate danger from a monumental threat. Vietnam is a good example of when the draft is abused.
- ileftfark, on 08/20/2008, -8/+62This is only "news" on Digg. Anyone who has followed politics with any more effort than reading the HuffPost articles here knows McCain has been in favor of a draft since the war in Iraq began. There's also rumors that he was voting for the draft during the French and Indian War.
- LegendaryStats, on 08/20/2008, -22/+75Im 21 years old, I live in NY and I DO NOT want to fight for this maniac...
Obama 08' - blakecr, on 08/20/2008, -12/+64Jesus McCain - Defeating evil one war at a time with your husband, son, dad, or brother.
- Lukester38, on 08/20/2008, -9/+61Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, Iran.
Mc73 needs a nap. - NYCEST124, on 08/20/2008, -25/+71I'm all for cramming Democracy down other country's throats, its good for them....
America ***** Yea! - blakecr, on 08/20/2008, -16/+62War here...
War now...
We must begin an all of the above approach including extended offshore warring... - mehip, on 08/20/2008, -8/+48To paraphrase Damon Wayans "I'd shoot my son in the foot before I'd let him go fight for oil."
- mcartri, on 08/20/2008, -12/+46McCain is prolife for Republicans only. Send off the poor & the minorities to fight for Corporate America. The last time the American military defended America was WWll. Everything since has been low paid mercenary soldiers dying for the profits of the rich. Read "War is a Racket". Eisenhower knew the war profiteers racket. He warned the nation in January 1961 to beware the "Military-Industrial-Complex".
- BoneheadFarker, on 08/20/2008, -10/+44Honestly...I hope it happens. Not many are out protesting these ***** wars because no one is forced to fight. Draft them, and you'll see them protesting in droves...
- kemp34, on 08/20/2008, -7/+40Compulsory service is slavery. There is no argument against this. Saying you get "compensated" is not a legitimate argument, as one could use that same argument to say southern slaves were compensated with food, housing, etc.
Unless you support slavery, please do not head down the path of supporting compulsory national service of any sort. - xilduq, on 08/20/2008, -10/+43Believe it. This is not the first time he has mentioned reinstating the draft.
GOP supporters, go ahead and vote for your warmonger who will send the POOR children (including yours) to die. John Fogerty aptly wrote about it in Fortunate Son. http://www.stlyrics.com/lyrics/fahrenheit911/fortu ... - inactive, on 08/20/2008, -11/+43***** that old *****, ill draft together a militia and fight him before i fight for him.
- cadmiumpaint, on 08/20/2008, -6/+38a draft is political suicide for any senator or representative that goes along with it.
there would be massive riots and marches.
every college campus would erupt. There wouldn't be enough national guard to stop the protests.
it'll never happen. - RedAmerican, on 08/20/2008, -13/+45umm have you read Obama's foreign policy? Though he says he wants to pull the troops out of Iraq, he wants to increase troops in Afghanistan and he is not opposed to military action against Pakistan. On top of that is the potential of a problem with Iran and now Russia. That all takes a lot of soldiers and in the past democrats have supported the draft.
- Talphin, on 08/20/2008, -6/+37What the *****... You know, before 9-11, you hardly ever heard about terrorist attacks. It almost NEVER happened. And we were never in some alarmed state of panic.
After 9-11, there hasen't been a single terrorist attack on the US... So why all the ***** war mongering? Why all of the panic all of the sudden? - xilduq, on 08/20/2008, -3/+33Not only that but he doesn't even support the survivors known as veterans!
"GI Bill too generous" -- John McCain - ZackScott, on 08/20/2008, -8/+38Even Reagan was against the draft. Come on!
- jdtx1980, on 08/20/2008, -6/+35This is really scaring me, just the thought of it. I absolutely can't see going off and dying in a foreign land to serve the fascists' agendas. So I guess the only other option would be prison. Either way, I'll be forcibly taken from my family, from my baby daughter. I can only hope that Obama will wipe the floor with McWar and not get us into anymore of this crap. The days of the neocons NEED to come to an end. So much harm has already been done; they just must not be allowed to finish us off.
- DeskFlyer, on 08/20/2008, -14/+41Well, you DO need lots of troops if you are planning to start World War III.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -9/+36Oh, please. In the fifties, they were teaching kids to hide under their desks in case of nuclear attack. We had the "red scare". This crap didn't start with George Bush, and YOU look like the dumbed down person for suggesting it did.
- Rotzooi, on 08/20/2008, -4/+30McCain is pro-choice, he supports post-natal abortions.
- pjs1840, on 08/20/2008, -14/+39I say go ahead and reinstate the draft... maybe it will finally light a fire under everyone's asses to get up off their couch and into the streets to protest these illegal wars. The draft is the biggest difference between Vietnam and Iraq.... Vietnam protests were so much bigger and actually succeeded in getting the war to end. I don't see how the Iraq war will end unless the majority of Americans quit griping and actually do something about it.
- barbiesnow, on 08/20/2008, -7/+31Unfortunately, you are right..this whole election is starting to scare me.
- fantanel, on 08/20/2008, -11/+35John, do you WANT to be President?
- xilduq, on 08/20/2008, -3/+24The POOR will always be the ones sent off to die. The Fortunate Ones will conveniently receive college deferments. Just ask Bush and Cheney. Cheney deferred again and again and again. When the Politicians send THEIR children to the FRONT lines FIRST, then they can ask us to send ours!
- bloodomen13, on 08/20/2008, -4/+24I truly to believe that if there is a draft instated that we will see TONS of people refusing to go... as they rightly should. We should not die to make the rich richer.
As the government prepares to start World War III we'll see a civil war in the US at the same time. - danceyoumonster, on 08/20/2008, -9/+28And we take one more step toward the Hot War.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -10/+28Looking for apartment in the Toronto area. I have a good sense of humor, am very clean, love cats and would make a great roommate. Call if interested
- blakecr, on 08/20/2008, -1/+18WTF?
- Suzilla, on 08/20/2008, -2/+18@Wargalas -- yeah. Instead, he simply upped the length of tours and decreased time for rotation back home.
About the only thing standing between BushCo and reinstatement of the draft is the fact that control of Congress was returned to the Democrats. - kemp34, on 08/20/2008, -8/+24The GWB era didn't start the fire, but it sure as hell added fuel to the flames.
- dagnabbit, on 08/20/2008, -2/+17Asked about the draft last September, McCain said, “I might consider it, I don’t think it’s necessary, but I might consider it if you could design a draft where everybody equally could serve.”
So he said he wouldn't do it once, he's said he might consider it once and he's said he doesn't agree when told that he can't get bin Laden without creating a draft. How should we know what to believe? - bentman78, on 08/20/2008, -40/+55Buried as complete *****...
McCain's position on the draft..
http://www.2008electionprocon.org/militarydraft.ht ...
Try submitting stories that aren't completely full of hyperbole, ***** and propaganda please... - fantanel, on 08/20/2008, -3/+17Not just from this. He has already said that he would consider the draft.
- LeeSoong, on 08/20/2008, -3/+17It's not.
The military doesn't like the draft,
it is far better as an All Volunteer force.
Military life can be a big challenge,
even for those who want to serve.
People who don't want to be there
only put the good soldiers at risk.
I believe more should be done to offer
federal schools as an alternative to
state public schools - for the junior and senior year of high school - so 18 year old Americans are ready to serve.
They could serve in the Military, Americorps, the Peace Corps, or work for their own state or for the federal government, national parks, etc.
Many U.S.A. young people are typically overweight,
morally unclear, lack patriotism or a sense of what it means to be an American.
Placing one federal school with a focus on public service in each state would go a long way to improve the lives of young people and continue the USAs All volunteer military force.
Young people spending their 17th, and 18th birthdays learning how their country works and how they can help would go a long way to help the USA. - Shiftyeyedgoat, on 08/20/2008, -18/+31Same fear story that was used against Bush in '04. They screamed, "He'll reinstate the draft if he's re-elected! They all support it! It's sure to happen!" (http://blatanttruth.org/draft.php)
It's simply never going to happen; the outrage would be so monstrous, there would be more to worry about on in the homeland than fighting abroad. - KMartSheriff, on 08/20/2008, -1/+14That's a fight I would get behind.
- usedboxes, on 08/20/2008, -11/+24Ummm, do we honestly think it will just be the "men" he drafts. No no. That would be sexist of him, and he wouldn't want to portray himself as sexist or biased. Instead, he will encourage the drafting of young men AND women. As long as they come from low-income families, that way they are simply expendable. Oh and don't forget the homosexuals, and the minority groups. They can do some killing too.
That sounds like some good, old fashioned, solid McCain reasoning. - gr3yn3t, on 08/20/2008, -3/+16If you believe that, I've got some land to sell you.
- WSPanic201, on 08/20/2008, -3/+15And why didnt we just spend trillions within our own country instead of destroying a country with no connection to the attacks.
